Where The Highway Ends: Road To Yellowknife

you could pack them horribly in your cell country but not enough we're wandering around Yellowknife at night meet Graham and Adam and I'm Luke and we're headed to Canada's Arctic the Northwest Territories so here's how the idea started what's up Graham was in Fort McMurray Adam was in Kenya he thought I was in st. Thomas material to the Northwest Territories oh yeah six days from now there's no ties to Canada I had two flights and Ivan picked me up at the Calgary Airport and we drove to Fort McMurray the next morning we packed Graham's truck with all of our gear tied down the extra jerrycans and we're ready to hit the road we're just leaving Fort McMurray leaving Fort McMurray I saw the oil sands for the first time they are a hot topic in Canada these days they've just changed our driving up frozen muskeg how far we passport a query right now so we just crossed the ice over the fire bag River heading north we're making progress oh really liking this road so far we're just cruising and it's smooth and winding it up and down if an outside will just noise it you can not disappoint you could accent or a beard is so country but not an enough you're sorry and yeah you can't do it I don't know it approaches you can take I don't we're in the Arctic boys not really like we still have to find a place where we'll be able to build an igloo and camp tonight so it's getting darker and we don't know where we're going to spend the night and we're probably going to hit negative 30 but we fueled up with a little bit of coffee met some of the local madmen here we go it was getting late and we pulled over to camp for the night yeah so we just got off the highway to Fort Smith and I've come down some small road not enough room to turn around on and pretty deep snow and we really had to push through it in the 4x4 miss out can't be enough also just so much good exposure on the trees whereas we're looking over pine lake we just fried up some burgers on the Bry yeah blue and I go out to spend a night in tent it's like getting snow with it's infused with vitamins the lettuce is completely frozen it's just like eating chips now one good thing about the cold is there's no bugs Oh bureau freezin even though we were high enough in latitude we didn't see the aurora it's 4:30 a.m. and i'm somewhere in the northeast corner of Alberta Wood Buffalo National Park and I've had to leave the other two in the tent in the truck because I've got piercing pain in my feet cold I'm just seeing our campsite in the daylight for the first time and just stunning sunrise it's rising over Pine Lake is incredible Wow we're just packing up we had a nice night at Pine Lake beautiful day again welcome to the Northwest Territories welcome to Northwest Territories bro yeah we're just getting a coffee in Portsmouth before heading out and going further on to Han River and Yellowknife yeah we might attract some matter for today I totally stopped rolling off the booster we're gonna add up to a river little bit so we stopped at little Buffalo River Falls took a look still fairly frigid out cheers Graham Cheers mm Cheers yeah beef stew maple syrup beans with potato and steak and gravy in the northwestern yeah we found a place to park sleep on the side of the road between Hay River and Yellowknife we're probably all going up sleeping in the truck tonight it's the next morning and we're trying fruitlessly to make any kinds of breakfast because -29 makes it very difficult to cook anything so I think we're just have to hold on to the Yellowknife so we just crossed the Mackenzie River over the dead show bridge and now we're heading onto for Providence you we just spotted some bison on the side of the road get some pictures place it in the snowbank just chillin I can't imagine lying in the snow like that all winter I'm getting cold to sodium for five minutes there's a little bit of ice on the road at minus 34 so here just arrived in Yellowknife and we're looking for a place to safe night and a good place to find some food and hopefully they know when the lights go off tonight they have them for the past two but maybe tonight's the night not too much drop-top buckled under a hotel in Yellowknife and stearin was feeling pretty hard noise there's some Ravel coming in I think something to do with the power steering is sabotage during a from the area we just made it to our hotel room but because we had hotel difficulties earlier it's not the biggest hotel room as you can see we think gonna be cozy yes we made it all of us in this little room check it out pretty pretty sweet we got one big bed for three my big bed for three of us so I had a shower and feel absolutely amazing after spending the last like three or four days in the same clothes probably information you didn't want to know now you feel it hit yay we're looking for the wild cat cafe is it over here we're wandering around Yellowknife at night just remember close Cheerilee to Yellowknife to the knife this is great slave whitefish with a maple glaze very very very sweet maple glaze this who's this your advisor they're here but you go time just nauseous I expect him to come up and give me a bill like here's a breathe yeah we saw you take two breaths you just spent the last leg no no six hours dry now your trees idea these puppies are here people like I'm older you leave them running all the time oh yeah he's freaking out to do the backwards so you actually have to go because if you don't leave it running in my doubts turn I know I know I should throw you a guy he actually have our truck running all last night don't tell them no is running that's a problem I'm Junior so I don't want me in controversial yeah we can't we slept in the truck last night like I want to sleep in a group like left that's true we were like halfway that I'm here near Italy so I just got back to the hotel after a good time at the pub with Adam and Graham and some locals and the bartender was great used to all our stories and giving us insights on Yellowknife and I'm feeling just exhausted so I'm going to hit the hit the hay Adam and Graham are still out on the town last I heard they were hungry and looking for hamburgers good night we're just packing up over the hotel room we've got to go down it's almost noon all right just leave in the end we are going into the most northerly Tim Hortons in the world probably is there's another one in 200 pulling on the big lake they're just available stick to the side of the lake pretty deep there just collage electro magnet you yeah me okay on our first day in Yellowknife I wanted to get out and see the surrounding area we're just starting on the Ingraham trail leaving Yellowknife and going to drive on some ice and go ice fishing on some lakes the first attempt at ice fishing wasn't a success so we cooked up burgers again how do you feel about cooking at negative 34 haha feel pretty warm crispy yum burger wraps I think you think this is because I haven't same thing that right there it's how to make hamburgers in the negative 30s that night out on a frozen lake you are in for a serious treat there yeah they're just movin the Northern Lights are just going off right now it's a mental out there they're going from one side of the sky right over our heads all the way to the other and I took some time lapses but I'm absolutely froze my camera sounded it like it was working in slow so much frost on here you start over go click click but I got some amazing amazing shots so stoked bang across the whole sky Oh going off really go like 9:00 9:30 9:30 was kind of pain yeah it's 10:30 now we're brushing our teeth getting ready for another night in the truck I just sleep last night pretty good it's not done right in the truck McDonald's for breakfast laptop for adults it's great they're giving away we're being very productive and are showing getting our work we're getting ready to take a take a shot Group charter bus in from the Illinois we got three different cameras going for three different angles we got all the paparazzi covered we are crossing the ice road over Yellowknife Bay antenna 32,000 kilograms truck meal on this ice what are we doing very go to toe behind the truck on the green smoothly yes it's oh yeah nice white powdery snow yeah Hey Oh yogi Oh God Oh haha told me Hey ha the Isle of for cific yeah we're getting ready for another northern night gonna be long and cold
