I remember the boy when our next-door neighbors would come and borrow a cup of sugar or a cup of washing powder we knew our neighbors names I remember being able to be reprimanded by my neighbors across the street as a boy then chastised and they will call my parents and I get chastise again when I got home many of us don't know our neighbors don't want to know one to come in we let our garages down you don't bother me I don't bother you everything is cool and I so as we've sought to become have a higher trajectory from a socio-economic perspective the more educated we become often the less communal would become hi friends I me doing smithing Atlanta Georgia I'm so excited to bring you the living hope telecast on today I want you know today's message is gonna change your life today's message is a part of a series entitled Love Wins you heard me right loved one on Calvary and loved sleet still winds right now it was a love of God that changed us the love of God we don't share with other people today's message is wonderful the theme came from Tina Turner yeah I know Tina Turner sometimes God can use a secular phrase in order to bring a spiritual truth get your Bibles I want to ask you a question what's love got to do with it you're watching Living Hope be blessed by the Word of God and the hold of certain lawyer stood up and tempted him singing master what should I do to inherit eternal life jesus said unto Him what is written in the law how I read it's now and he answering said thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy strength and with all thy mind and my neighbor as thyself he said unto Him thou has answered write this do in doubt shell mills but he willing to justify himself said unto Jesus and who is my name verse 27 he answered said thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart all that sold all that strength of our mind and they and thy neighbor as thyself and he said in him I had answered write this - and thou shalt live but he willing justify himself said under Jesus who is my neighbor I won't ask questions of text this morning on our theme of love and the question is what's love got to do with you look at your neighbor's a neighbor what's love got to do with it what's love got to do with it what the laser-like focus does the master unleash these neophyte followers to obey their mission though he knew that they had been attentive to his lessons for almost 18 months preparation for the lives destined will require a whole lot more their arsenal was now abounding this the theoretical along were direct and indirect observations of the supernatural yet in spite of theoretical knowledge and in spite of seeing miracles these disciples were still missing something in order to provide a crooks in centrality for their destinies he allowed and somehow arranged for a cynical scholar to interrupt their discourse to try him before the public and so with an accusatory and legalistic tone and tena does this lawyer interrogate Jesus by asking Jesus master can you tell me what what I can do to inherit eternal life jesus knew that his disciples had heard his lessons for nine previous chapters he sent them out to be laborers in the field and now he was given them a lesson on the law and so this lawyer may be a Pharisee may be a Jew comes up to Jesus trying to test Jesus trying to publicly embarrass Jesus wants to get Jesus in a precarious predicament he wants to mess with Jesus maybe to try to accuse him before time and so you ask a question what can I do to inherit eternal life and Jesus wanted that lawyer but not just the lawyer but those disciples and also those of us who are in this room today to know that allows are not just about lessons classroom laboring his parents as workers laboring in the fields or even trying to obey the law he wants us to know like he wanted this young lawyer and his disciples to all know that ultimately the lesson was was about love this man this law you no doubt felt that through his own efforts he could find eternal life and so he's busy perhaps in works maybe as a Pharisee trying to obey the tenets of the Torah the mission on the Pentateuch maybe he was in a sense of arrogance felt that he could dot every I and cross every T and by dotting eyes and crossing the teens of the law and somehow he could faint he could gain some eschatological favour with God he felt that through his own human efforts that he could get himself into eternal life by his own efforts and Jesus says since you are the law you tell me what does the law say and he responded with Jesus the law says that you should love the Lord thy God with your heart with your soul with your strength with your mind and then love your neighbor as yourself for some reason or another it's difficult for us to show outward affection to others for many of us our love is inward in that we've only become narcissistic in that it's all about us if we honest with ourselves most of our theologies is Ameen centered theology listen to what we sing pass me knocked o gentle Savior hear my humble cry why don't others die our calling do not pass me by I need Thee Oh I need thee every hour I need Thee bless me now my Savior for I come to thee it's mean Oh Lord standing in the need of prayer not my mother not my father but it's me O Lord standing in the need not the deacon or the preacher but it's me O Lord standing in the need of prayer what God has taught me it is for me I know without a doubt here sure they bring me what God has for me it is for me sometimes because we think we have thee or that we've made it we become at ease in Zion so now since I got my crimping my spit level with plasmon high def TVs with two car garage and a boy and a girl with a picket fence and the dog and the cat and the two goldfish in the tank I've arrived I've made it I got mine and you get yours and that's become the reality for many people but jesus said when you pray you say our Father which art in heaven hallowed be thy name looking out he says you know lead us not into temptation so it was more plurality versus single arity if you look at our kids you have to beat them to take the trash out but when the new tennis shoes come out what the new cadiz I want the new Jordan's I want the new True Religion pants we've created a generation that the lights of prosperity and growth is all about us but in this text Jesus here seems to attach eternal destinies to your ability to not just love you but to love somebody else the lawyer seemed to ask Jesus well if I'm gonna make it to heaven you talk about my neighbor what's love got to do with it and Jesus says to us in effect through telling a story he says that that came to pass a certain man that went down from the city of Jericho to Jerusalem to Jericho this is very interesting in verse number 29 and 30 because he says this man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho now you got understand the road from Jerusalem to Jericho with a 17 mile long road it's a long road but it also has a three thousand foot decline meaning it's straight down hill and whenever you left Jerusalem to go down because they would go up to Jerusalem Jerusalem was the holy city of God but this Jericho Road if you allow me to contextualize it would be analogous to old little Vietnam or Bankhead some of y'all remember before was as nice as it is now when I moved to Atlanta anybody couldn't walk through little Vietnam come on anybody know what I'm talking about a man I don't care if you come to see somebody else's sister you better be careful you had somebody with you because that was like the Jericho Road because thieves and people on the streets who would occupy their territory would ensure that Outsiders didn't come down this road and brother this sister what you will see happen as this man was leaving Jerusalem we don't know anything about his ethnicity but notice Jesus tells us that eternal life in your destiny has a lot to do with love as you look at the story of this man this man leaves Jerusalem headed to Jericho on the 17-mile Road and as he's walking from Jerusalem Jericho verse 30 says that he fell among some thieves and he falls amongst some thieves notice what happens to him they stripped him of his clothes they wounded him and they departed and then they left him had half dead he stripped being left to die and now he's unidentifiable because of challenges and the first-century for this particular area the only way they could recognize you basically would be by your clothes or by your speech so the challenge that he has now his strip of his clothing he's beaten have bed so he's unconscious so anybody who looks at him from the outside can't tell what his ethnicity is he's unrecognizable no clothes he's unable to speak for himself he's run into a situation that life has put him literally on the floor and left him to die let me ask you a question have you ever been living your life and you ran into something that stripped you that beat you and left you for half-dead you ever were going in one direction out of nowhere that relationship that was moving with a higher trajectory so turn on you and broke your heart and you thought that relationship was going to leave you has been you've been leaving from church or leaving from a place with God trying to do the right thing trying to make it to a place of home and people that you allow to come into your space robbed you of your trust rob you of your love returned hate to you for the love you extended toward them and it literally crushed you in so much that you felt that you are about to die and can I tell you something the most difficult pain that I felt in my life have not been from people in the streets the most difficult pains and moments that I've experienced have not been even from me and walking around with white hoods on burning crosses in the arch but the most difficult pain that I faced in my life from a people perspective came from people who I opened my heart up to the same ones who patted me on my back while all the same time trying to find a soft spot to put the knife and I wish I had somebody who could identify that your hurts came from people that you trusted with your secrets your hurt came from people that you thought you had their back and when the chips were down didn't have your back and you went through something so excruciating and so painful that it robbed you of your jaw it robbed you of your happiness it's you of your trust and you felt you were gonna be left to die because you in such agonizing pain what do you do when you're when undeservedly you run into something that has killed you and left you on the floor hey we're just getting started don't change the channel I'll be right back in a moment you watch it living hope so the Levites who ministered in the priests who represent the church the church looks on the brokenness dr. Dooley answers the difficult questions and reminds us that love always wins we declare I love God and God says this the word says how can you declare you love me God you've never seen but you can't speak and you can't love people that you see every day we can never transform a community if we are offending them and insulting them at the Isis is interesting because they're cutting people's heads off in the name of religion many Christians are like Isis and that we just cut people's hearts in the name of religion we've got to treat people with the love love them first you can't clean a fish until you've caught a fish order this candid enlightening series today when you visit our website or call eight seven seven eight nine four hope the early church had all things in common they walk together they broke bread together they went from house to house they shed all things in common that's what that word community comes from the prefix comes from the word common and we've lost the sense of community we've lost that sense of I am because we are and because we've lost that we have having a lot more problems in our society listen what they say they say in verse number 30 and a certain man went down from Jericho to Jerusalem fell among thieves who which robbed him of his raiment warned him departed leave him half dead so he's floored by the hurt the hurt has floored him but look at the next verse you'll see not only has the hurt floored him but the holy has ignored him look at verse number 31 it says and by chance that came down a certain priest that way and when he saw him he passed back on the other side now I did the research and what I discovered is the priests in the first century were a part of a higher social economic class so in all probability he was riding on a donkey or a horse so the priest now is big-time he thinks he's a ball down a shot call the priest who in the first Citra at this time was the representative of God who served as Minister for the people no quiet and so the hurts have floored this man but this high class priest who's riding we're not sure if they saw the beating or not but we know that he saw the man laying unconscious and half dead we're not sure of the ethnicity of the man but this priest who looks at the man made it because of the law because here the law mandated the law mandated that if he was a Samaritan that the priest was a Jew and since 722 BC when the Assyrians deported these Jews from Assyria they cohabitated with other former prince of war to form this mixed culture called Samaritans and so for 800 years authentic indigenous Jews hated Samaritans and so much that it was against the law for a Jew to even touch a Samaritan because if a Jew touched a Samaritan then the Jew will become ceremonially unclean okay some y'all remember this some you Bible remember John chapter 4 he went to a place called Samaria in a village called psycho he stopped at Jacob's Well at the sixth hour to draw water and a woman ran unto him he said woman can you bring me a drink of water it's in Saint John chapter 4 just wait a minute dog how you being a Jew ask me a Samaritan for a drink you know Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans Jesus a woman what are you talking about if you knew who it was who was asking you for a drink you wouldn't let me ask you for a drink you'll be asking me for a drink go call your husband she says her husband said you right you've had five hustlers your little one now that's not yours that makes six husbands and that's why to meet you the Samaritans so maybe the priest did not touch him because he's a Jew but andaman maybe as a Samaritan and if he touches him that would defile him which means that he can't serve the sacrifices he can't eat of the table and he can't receive the time money because if he touched the Samaritan oh if the man was dead and he touched him that also caused him to be defile which means the priests have to go through a ritual of cleansing which was about a week or two we had to kill and kill a goat they call it a heifer to offer the blood so he'd be out of work for two weeks which means he couldn't get his okay look how you look at night look how you look at night so he said somebody asked you a question Lord which one is the greatest commandment he says you know what Moses gave you ten they added about six hundred sixty-one more in the Old Testament let me break it down for you love God with all your heart mind your soul your strength get that right number one then number two love your neighbor as yourself if you get those two right you got it many of us first of all don't love God and so because we don't love God it's impossible for us to love each other we declare I love God and God says listen to verse says how can you declare you love me oh god you've never seen but you can't speak and you can't love people that you see every day the side of the street comes along the Levites they were also a part of the social class maybe not on the same level but they were descendants of Levi who were chosen to assist in the inner ship so he said you know we can't risk it because maybe if I go over there maybe it's a setup so the Levites who ministered in the priests who represent the church the church looks on the breakin Asst and the hand of humanity but rather than learn I have been here we don't want to jeopardize business as usual he know what disgusts me tell me where we drive to this church we got the week by the thousands driving right by Western Chapel not knowing that's the busiest corridor for child sex trafficking in the nation 11 to 15 year old girls and boys are in the human trafficking system touch and someone's right right back and don't care cuz you know what your daughter is because you know what your niece is because you know what your son is because it does not affect you you don't care about how many of us who call ourselves wholly or ignoring the hurts of people who own the floor that's why we got to counseling Siller here the church cuz you know I recognize some of us don't need Scripture someone's need a prescription okay look how you look at it look how you looking at me look how you look at it and ain't nothing wrong with a prescription if you need a prescription along with a scripture then scripture in one hand and a prescription Anil ok Sango said okay I know something on like that cuz you you you are deep and all you got to do is name and then claim it blab it and grab it hold it and call it but sometimes if your hormones and your emotions and there's a chemical imbalance you need something more than a scripture okay that's why I recognize my own limitations some stuff I can't deal with as a pastor my gift is preaching teaching New Testament leadership I took to counseling classes my whole life some folk come into the office and their issue is higher than my paygrade hey okay but I don't feel bad about that cuz you got a lot of people who's inside Patrick calling somebody bring me another bag for them and me okay y'all come on y'all help me preach friends I've committed my life since I was 17 to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ I need your help I've been doing almost 30 years I need your help right now help us spread this message of love I want to see lives transformed by the message of love and the power of Jesus Christ the power of God call right now that I'm on the screen become a copper network with us become a partner to help us to change last five god I got to leave you now my time as far spent but keep loving keep giving people hope you've been watching hope dr. Dooley answers the difficult questions and reminds us that love always wins and until we validate the humanity of somebody who's different from us we'll never win a world for Jesus Christ Gandhi once said that would be more Christians if there were more people will believe in God you have there were less people to claim but the same grace that saved me the same blood they let me come in the same blood that's you're gonna need thank God that Jesus didn't preach condemnation he just preached Christ order this candid enlightening series today when you visit our website or call 877 894 hope meet doctor ito a Smith in any of these great locations November 12th and Scott Caldwell ministries in Rome Georgia November 13th through November 14th at Calvary Baptist Church in Morristown New Jersey November 15th for the greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church anniversary at the house of Hope Atlanta for more information on any of these great events call eight seven seven eight nine four hope next time on living hope somebody shot we can't ignore the hurts of people in there somehow prophetic said we can't ignore the hurts of people people are hurting not just outside the church but people are hurting even inside the church that's why we can't just be so quick to get caught up in our gender sometimes we got to pause and take a station I think and say God we love to worship you but right now we're gonna engage in some warfare somebody help me right say say we're gonna engage in some warfare over your mouth we'll see everything the enemy is trying to kill say everything is trying to steal we don't stand in the gap and we're gonna declare not on our watch
