higher Visa rejection rates slow Visa processing and universities asking students to withdraw their applications these are some of the news that you might have also heard if you're planning to study in Australia and you might be wondering what's happening with Australian student visa applications and trust me we too so in this video we will talk about what's happening with Australian student visas the reasons behind it and what students can do about it so if you are someone who's planning to study in a austa in 2024 I suggest you to watch this video till the end as we'll cover heaps of details that you may not find on many other channels so first let's discuss about the student visa rejection what's happening with that so it has been reported that the student visa grants has been down by 20% Which is considered to be one of the biggest shift in the last two decades with nearly onethird of Indian and Pakistani applications and with more than 50% of napi student visa application has been refused over the last few months and considering India and Nepal is one of the biggest countries where most of the international students come from in Australia this is a huge setback the second thing that's happening is slow Visa processing over the last few months it has been reported that the Visa processing has been much slower than the usual so it's is taking longer time to get student visas specifically if the students are applying for some high risk education providers we'll talk about what is a higher risk education provider in the next few minutes and last but not the least is universities asking students to withdraw their applications not all universities has been reported to do so but it has been reported that at least one of the university is suggesting students to withdraw their student visa application as they may not be able to get their visa so these were some of the things that are happening now let's go and understand the main reasons why this is happening now if you have to ask us there is one specific reason why these changes are happening and that is Australian population yes you have heard it right it is basically all about Australia's population see Australia's current population is more than 27 million people and we have just touched 27 million Mark last month which is according to some reports around 20 years ahead of time so we were supposed to hit this 27 million Mark in around about 20 years from now but we are already there this has kind of put a pressure on the government as the Australian government does not plan to have a big Australia in the future I hope you can understand what is Big Australia which is just about the size of population obviously there are two ways Australian population is growing one is through natural birth that is the local people who live here who have their families and kids and the migration so this brings us to the next point which is Australia's migration strategy as most of you might be aware that Australia released their migration strategy late last year basically in order to control the rate of migration level and as I mentioned earlier that Australian government does not want a big Australia so they have to pull the lers to control the migration to Australia so to give you some reference previous years Australia had quite a large intakes but this financial year of 2023 2024 Australia is planning to take only 375,000 migrants that includes students and other migrants and from the next financial year 2024 2025 onwards it will be capped to 250,000 per year and moving forward that will be the number for migration intakes and again that will include International students and other migrants as well so in the migration strategy government has clearly mentioned that they want to reduce the intake of migration and they also want to make sure that the students who are coming on a student visa are genuinely coming to study here so there are some additional measures the government has planned which includes the increase in English language test requirements which we have discussed in one of our recent videos if you haven't seen that you can check that by clicking the link in the description box reducing the time frame for the temporary graduate visas replacing the GTE genuine temporary ENT requirement M by genuine student requirement and generally more scrutiny for students who will be applying for their second or the third visas while there was no cap announced on international student visa applications but government has laid out a plan to reduce the migration intake which obviously affect the student visa applicants as well it is quite clear from the strategy document that over the period of time the number of student visas that will be issued will be reduced so that is one clear reason why there is reduction in student visa application grants now when it comes to the slope Visa processing this has also been intentional if you paid attention to the news last year there was a clear Direction given by the department of Home Affair Minister which is clear or nail instructing the Departments to process visas based on the education providers risk levels so if you're not familiar the department of Home Affairs actually categorized the education providers into three different levels level one level two and level three level one is obviously the top tier universities and they are considered to be the the lowrisk providers and then you have a level two providers which are considered to be medium risk and then you have level three which is a high risk providers that includes most of your private vocational colleges so if you come across slow Visa processing it could be a possibility that you have applied to maybe level two or level three University and the direction given by the minister for home Affairs is quite clear as the low risk providers are getting a priority in terms of student visa processing and if the provider is of high risk then the student visas are actually put into what they call it slow lane slow lane means it will take longer time to get the visa process and the priority will be given to the level one universities or other level one education providers so that address is the reason why there is a slow Visa processing specifically for level two and level three providers and last but not the least in term of why universities are asking students to withdraw their applications and that is also linked with these risk rat ratings that we just mentioned see the universities would love to keep their existing rankings or even improve it to other levels no one wants to get downgraded from one level to the other for example if your university is in level one you would not want to go to level two and how the department of Home Affairs decide that well it's dependent upon the type of student visa applications they are getting for this college or university how many refusals are there and if the student after completing the course stayed back in Australia and obviously there are many other factors when it comes to giving a level to a university or a college so in order to save themselves for getting downgraded from one level to the other some universities reportedly have asked their students to withdraw application and once the student withdraw the application it won't affect the University's risk level so it makes sense for the University to ask student to withdraw the application before they get the refusal for their visa because if they do it will look bad on the university the department would obviously think that what type of students are applying for this specific un University so if the university sees that the student may not be able to get a Visa that could be the reason why they asking them to withdraw the application now if you are a student who is planning to study in Australia in 2024 what can you do so here are some suggestions in regards to some of the things that we think might be useful for you to know about if you are planning to apply for your student visa and before I discuss and give you these tips just to let you know and overseas student Australia is not a migration agency so we can't advise you on your individual migration needs if you want to get specific advice on your own situation I highly recommend you to find a registered migration Agency for that so in terms of suggestions here are some of the things you can do first one is prepare your application carefully it is more important than ever now that you apply your application with all the correct details make sure that you check your application few times before submitting and also provide all the genuine documentation second tip will be in regards to your education agent make sure sure you work along with your education agent when you're applying for University and when you're applying for your Visa as well you can't just let education agent apply everything on your behalf you have to make sure you get confirmation in terms of what sort of documentation are they sending and when they're completing some application form make sure to ask them to send you Draft before they submit it to the university or to the department third suggestion is apply to study in Australia in 2024 only if you have a genuine intentions to study say it has been clear from the migration strategy as well that the Australian government only want genuine students to come if you have other intentions then study for example just work and so on then Australia may not be the right fit for you and you might need to consider some other alternative and last but not the least is apply for good education providers as I mentioned earlier the risk level of an education provider is very important these days if you're applying for level one universities or level one education providers it's more likely your Visa get processed f faster it's not confirmed that you will get a Visa but here there's a more likelihood of getting a Visa if you're applying for level one education provider applying for level two or level three will put you in that slow lane you may have to wait for a long time to get your visa sorted and it could also lead to Visa refusals as well as I mentioned earlier the department has been quite brutal in terms of Visa rejections especially over the last few months as Australian government is cutting down on its migration intake and you don't want to be one of those students who get the refusal number before ending this video I would love to hear from you all as well what's the status of your student visa application have you applied for it are you applying soon if you have already applied how long you have been waiting for your student visa if you're applying for level one or level two universities please let me know in the comment section as well and if you missed out on what was discussed in Australia's migration strategy then I suggest you to check this video here where I talk about Australia's migration strategy that was announced in December 2023 very important video that covers all the details you need to know about so click that video here and I'll see you there
