welcome to another battle video from network engineering academy and as you can probably tell this video video number two part two out of four videos about this topic what's a switch so if you haven't watched video number one you better go back and watch video one first if not this video will not make a lot of sense to you why because the way that i'm teaching you the way that i'm walking you through this topic it's for you not only to get it but for you to be able to see it for you to select the big picture and obviously for you to process this information in a way that you can communicate this to someone else in a way that you can probably pitch it to someone else because that's exactly what's gonna make you different from everyone else you know no one pitches this in the iet community how to market how to position how to sell yourself you know the knowledge that you have the experience that you have and i know a lot of it you're going to get it through these videos based on how i teach the technical topics now if this topic is new to you again go through this video now once but twice and take notes so again go back to video number one if you haven't watched video number one now let's get back and go through this video and let's go through it by where we left out and that was frame we're talking about frames on the previous video now just to remind you right on video number one we went through this process and how can you connect you know information topics that are related to each other that way you can tell more that way you can answer a technical question better not just based on what they're expecting for you to say but more that way they can see you as an expert and that's exactly what makes a difference you see i'm so passionate about teaching you this because this can really and completely change your id career you know the way that you approach your iet career the way that you learn the technical topics i'm telling you no one out there teaches you this so let's go back in frame right so if i come up to you right now and i ask you you know can you tell me a few things about switches probably one thing they will come up to that you uh will come up is you know jorge like switches they're all about frames okay i'm expecting for you to say that remember right i'm expecting for you to say that but at that point don't go to the next topic like oh and by the way you know switches work on the layer two of those samara like no you're talking about friends what else can you tell me about that remember i'm expecting for you to tell me frames so what else can you tell me about that you know make a conversation out of it make a story out of it that's exactly what's gonna differentiate you you know like let me walk you through this you know like frames you know switch it's all about frames because let me tell you one thing if computer a let's say this computer wants to communicate with this computer computer b you know they have to go through this process and going through the seven layers of osmoto and all the way on the top we have that application layer and then all the way to the bottom we have the physical layer and that data that you want to send from computer a to computer b has to go through the seven layers and what that means is the top three layers it's all data but then it's gonna basically go to the transport layer now that's a pdu okay so it's a video a packet data unit where that data is gonna go and be a segment because that's exactly on the transport layer when we adding what type of protocol and if it's tcp udp you know how it's going to send that uh that information the data now at that point we're going to go to the layer 3 of the osmoto and that's that network layer now at that point it's all about packets right so at that right there it's basically when we're gonna add that destination and that source iep and obviously those two will never change throughout you know computer a communicating to computer b and then it's gonna go to the data link layer now that pdu the packet data unit and that pdu basically will be a frame you see how i was able to position myself like a really badass technical guy instead of just me oh switches you know frames that's one thing you know layer two of those smart mac addresses again if you haven't watched video number one go back and watch video number one and by the way like this video share this video a comment you know it takes time for me to do this video so i will really appreciate it you know if you share this video so going back so again right like how can you say more about where uh this topic now let's talk about more about friends right because that's another thing that you can say you know like oh about friends too you know when you take a look at the frame you know that's basically a few things one of them it's that destination my catrice in this case will be this right computer b this is a mac address of computer b and the source mac address and obviously that will be the mac address of computer a and that will change throughout the network you know that mac address of destination and source will change every time they go from one network to another network you see but that's more for the ccna again but that's something that you can say because they will see like okay i see what you mean instead of then being like okay i get it yeah it makes sense one thing is for them to say i get it like it makes sense and another completely different i see what you mean you see how that changed that psychology so basic basically this is what a framework uh has and i'm not gonna go through all of the details that's for another video but just for you to get the idea i'm not gonna talk about it because it's not that critical about this p and that's what they call that preamble and again these two is what i told you this is the destination mac address and the source mac address that order here it doesn't matter okay because i know some people will be like oh okay that will go first and like no let's get a big picture now the payload that's basically all the data and everything else that's coming from you know uh from the top layer layer seven all the way to the network layer so that's where you're gonna basically find you know the destination uh ip address uh source ip address the protocol that you're using and obviously you know let's say that you're using https that protocol uses tcp so that's basically uh a reliable uh communication so you will and obviously the data you will find it here now all of it it's not like you have this big picture and you're going to send it and that picture is going to be here now it can be hundreds depending how big the picture that video that document is you know it's not just one frame it can be a hundreds of frames you know for that video that picture that document okay now it see that's for ethernet it that's for ethernet because let me tell you something okay this right you don't see a router it's just a switch and a few end devices so that it's a ethernet network that's exactly a ethernet network what you see here this is a ethernet network so a lot of people don't refer refer that uh as an ethernet network but you see another way for you to remember uh now we have a crt and if i'm not mistaking that cyclic redundancy check okay and that's again uh how and that's by the way and you can find this it's also called f f c s and that's uh f i think it's frame frequency um uh checksum sequencing i think that is i think i got it right i don't know but you see you don't have to memorize that you know as long as you can say you know that it has a crc of that uh f uh cs and that basically this is what it does you know the frame goes from computer a to computer b so once that frame goes from computer a basically it's going to create this algorithm about that information and then once it gets to computer b you know it's going to go through the algorithm and see if it's the same if the data it's not the same the frame it's not the same from when that com when since when that frame got out from computer a until it got good computer b then basically it's going to acknowledge that saying hey you know this is something happened so you have to send me that frame all over again it's going to detect that something happened it's not going to fix it but it's going to let you know hey send it back because something happened along the way they it didn't get that the frame the way that it got out from computer a okay so that's basically what that is so now you know more about frames you can say a lot more about that you take that frame you can look at it and this is information that you will find and that's a few other things that i want to add uh and you know a villa but that's for the next video i'm going to talk about it because once you have a bill and it's going to be a section here but again you know i'm not going to go into detail that's probably another video for that and remember go through the membership side if you want to be part of you know what i teach and it's not just technical for you to become a badass in the it sign up for the membership type now if you're ready to take your it career to the next level and you want me to coach you then sign up for the coaching program that's when you get the one-on-one with me and i help you throughout the process not only for you to get certified but for you to get results not many people have results in the iet and more likely that once they give you advice are the ones that do not have that result that you want so now let's talk about irp that's another thing that you need to think about when you think about switches you know and probably you know like you know jorge like i know i know what's irp you know outros resolution protocol okay if you know this what would you say about this topic how would you sell this topic to me because please don't be like everyone else coming up with a technical definition you know like don't do that because guess what you think you will sound so badass oh i answered that question properly you know like man i got it i'm going to get the job but you see the other 10 people going through the same process for them to get the same job that you want to get more likely they got they answer that question the same way so what's gonna make me remember you you know so don't come up with a technical answer okay so again how will you be able to sell that to me how would you be able to be market dynamic ah i see that you have value to offer okay so because it's basically what matters so again e um arp actual resolution protocol and this is a way that i think about it you know every time that i and when i was going through this process and learning this topic many years ago this is something that i come up with because i was getting confused with so many protocols out there so because i learned the process of learning i was able to do these exercises and help you know so for me to remember is this i know that but don't know that okay so what that means is this i know the ip address of that device that i want to communicate with the network device but i don't know the mac address and as you probably know you know when devices once want to communicate in the ethernet on the local area network they don't have to go through a router they have to communicate through a mac address layer 2. even though yes they need an ip address now how will this work out okay how will this work out if i ask you right now to see because probably you're thinking you know jorge i know this really well but i'm just still going through that video to see what bs are you able to come up with now you know because i know that's many people just thinking that way many haters out there but don't care i just want to focus on the people that really want to go through this and get as much uh as possible for them to better themselves in their in the iet field and for you obviously to get success so if you know right arp and i tell you how would you sell that to me here explain me something how it will work here based on this network diagram based on this picture what would you say how would you sell that to me you know because one thing is for you to say you know well our porque you know it's all about that you know the iep of the network device that you want to communicate to but you don't know the mac address and that's a reason why you have arp you know so you can go out there and get that mac address of that ip device but you see that's kind of like a technical definition how will you be able to sell it to me so that i can see you have more value and that's why i'm making these videos not at 10 20 minutes sometimes it takes 30 40 minute uh a minute for me to go through this video because i really want to give you the best that i have and give you a scenario because if you learn that way your life will never be the same and how you learn a technical topic so in this way i will that's a few things that you can say not many but one of them will be you know so let's say that that server you know just blow up boom right so we don't have that server the network was that well not yeah part of the network was down because this one you know was the domain controller so at that point you know we're kind of like f word right so we came up with a new physical server and we go through a process and install the roles the same roles and obviously we're going to assign the same ip address because all the devices out there they go based on the ip address to communicate with that device but you see because we changed that physical server that means that we have now a different mac address so again at this point these computers know how to communicate here because of the ip address and remember the ip address didn't change we configure the server and we assign a statically assigned the same ip address but remember we change the hardware the physical box so what that means it has another mac address so at this point this computer only know about the ip of this server but you see we don't know the mac address because this is a new device so at this point we need our so what this computer any of these computers will do let's say this one computer a is going to send a broadcast and basically say hey you know who has a ip 192 168 205 you know who is uh david i mean who is david and then david it's gonna say uh that's me you know what do you want that's me same here that server will be well that's me that i have that ip what do you want oh you know i want to communicate you know that someone that wants to communicate but obviously it's through mac because we're in the local area network so i need your mac address ah no problem here's my my address and boom now it's gonna get it and the next time it's gonna be a unicast because uh unicast message because now it's going to be from that computer to the server and obviously when you send a broadcast with art this computer got it and because that computer was like well that's not my ip my ip ends with 10 now with five so i'm not gonna reply i'm just gonna drop the message because this is not for me you know this broadcast is basically looking for someone that has the following ip so it's not me i'm just gonna drop the message ah you see why now it makes sense how to put it on a scenario to explain this and that's exactly what's gonna sell you that's exactly what they're gonna see you on the value that you have to offer you know that's exactly the way that i'm helping a lot of my students in the coaching program for them to be able to sell that way one thing is for you to pitch something that you have no idea because you never done it or thinking they're just uploading a video it's marketing it's not it's not okay so anyway let's keep going so now let's talk about models okay we didn't talk about the models of the switches and video number one and that's good for you to know what are the models that are out there you know you can answer all the technical questions really well but then you know probably the network engineer is going to come up and be like okay let's see if you have some type of a real life experience or you really have that knowledge of real life not just based on books on some videos and probably ask you know can you tell me some of the switches that have you worked with or can you tell me some of the cisco switches that are out there what would you answer me because probably right now you know how to configure you know a switch you know you do some port security like the basic configurations on ether channels and vlans you know something basic but again if i come up to you and i ask you you know can you tell me you know three models of switches out there what would you say what would you say and how can you sell that to me tell me how can you sell that to me you see that's exactly what you need to learn and go through these videos probably not once but twice even though you probably know this topic really well so let's talk about that models so here we have a 2960 model so that's one for you to say and by the way i have one right here and you probably saw this one in one of my other videos so there you have one right there bam it's a 2960 uh switch layer two but you see what else can you tell me about that before you jumping in probably to the next uh model and you can probably say you know we have 2960 square game by the way those are lager 2 switches let me tell you one thing that i seen you know that people talk to me they're more likely that computers that you see you know on uh on the company they're gonna be connected to one of well uh to some of the switches that 296 is not all the time depending how the company is big but this is kind of like an access switch you know where end devices printers computers connect to you know to start accessing the network and start to share resources so you see that's one thing to know that that will be a good thing to say you know because now it's not only that you know the motto but what that really not does but what will you need it for and what will you put it in because obviously on the network you have uh various layers and depending on what layer that's depending the model you see probably you didn't know this uh and by the way i learned that going through that ccda you know design anyway it's coming back so the next one and obviously i'm not going to go through all of them you know kind of like the more out there so this one is a 35 60 this is a 3560. now if i'm coming up to you and i'm like oh we have the 260 we have the 35 uh 3560 again that's too basic you know you see on 2960 layer 2 you know where an access a switch where more likely a device is connected to and then another model that i know too is that you know the 30 35 50 35 60s now the difference between that one and the one that i just told you is it the first one the 2960 it's a layer 2 device and the 3560 it's a layer 3 device so this one right here that one that i'm telling you it's a router and a switch but by the way when you take that uh the the 3560 switch out of the box yeah pro even though you think it's a layer 3 switch it's not it's not the functionality of that switch is just a switch even though it's a 3550 a 3560 that oh but the only time that now it comes a layer 3 switch is when you log into it and when you do that command ip routing bam you see how much of a knowledge you were pro you provided and probably you know this probably you didn't say this why because your mind is not connecting that information that you know in a way that you can sell it to somebody else and that's exactly why more likely it's stopping you down for you to become a badass in the it feel you know i go through my students and i tell them all the time the way that you need to approach your i.t career whether you need to think about it and about yourself is for you to go through it all the way for you to make more than 120k in the iet field in the next two to three years the most because if you do the right things you can make that happen instead of listening to those people they're not making clothes they're i mean they're not making close to six figures and been in the itin more than five ten years actually a big difference right on the way um that that the advice they're gonna give you so let's move on so the other one is the 3750 that's another one that i can tell you jorge you know like the 3750s and those are two layer three switches okay now here it comes so far so good but now can you tell me what's the difference between like one of the biggest difference between a 3550 60 switch and a 3750 switch i know both are layer 3 switches but what can you tell me one of the big differences what would you say what would you say you see most companies uh have this so if you if you talk to some people out there and if you ask the right questions they will be able to provide you that information but if you've been in the iet i mean you should know this even though probably you don't work on the network team but you probably are like all over the place and you're not focusing on the right things that's why there's no way that you can sell and market yourself one thing is first to know exactly what's going on and obviously for you to know and then you focus on marketing and selling and you better know how to do that storytelling people think they know but they have no idea people think they're teaching that but they have no idea in the iet community i know because i watch some of those videos bad advice so anyways going back here so one thing that i mean the main thing that you can say is this and i have a switch bam at 37.50 and that's right here stacking okay the stacking you cannot do this with the 3560 switches you know you can stack probably between four you know two four six up to nine if i'm not mistaken up to nine um switches you know what that means you have let's say six switches and you will be able to manage those switches as one okay so remotely it's as one just one ip for management uh and you will to manage that if one switch goes down you still be able to go through the other ones you know and most companies have that so you see that's one thing for you to say like oh okay like now i see that like even though you probably never done it but you're giving me the right answer you have the the the right approach mindset and if i hire you yeah more likely you're gonna pick up pick up things right away you see what's like that makes a difference okay so the next ones these ones are the ones more likely that you're going to find some and they're old by the way on daily centers it's the 4500s now what's the difference between this one and this one what's the difference between this one and this one obviously the price but as you can probably tell this one has two power supplies that has a control management and you know i can buy this only with two you know slots of ports the other two no but you see if i want to add more i can just add it so basically what that means these switches are not modular switches not modular and what that means is the modular you are able to add more into it that's one thing obviously a a difference and obviously this cost more money but more likely you you're not going to find this that much okay at all and i will tell you why why in a minute now we have the 65 hundreds and you see we have here for us to add more so far we have four but we can add more if that company it's growing well we can add more okay again two power supplies that controller for you to connect and all these great things uh that's a few other things that i can talk about but i wanna i don't wanna make this video too long so let's move on right so now we have that nexus switches ah ryo probably didn't talk about that nexus switches and by the way when you get through and that's a topic that i was going through myself but then i stopped when i was doing network engineering academy but i was going through a lot of a data center uh studying and on those technologies because the ccna data center focused a lot on these you know and nexus switches and by the way this one right here or this one right here will cost you half a million or even more depending on what you're asking and the support that you are getting but yes it's more than half probably a million dollars you know for this on the back now this one they can cost you about 10 20 30 grand each why because you're no longer using like you know ethernet speed you're no longer using you know let me show you like this like the cat5 you're now using fiber optic cable and this you will not find them as an access switches access switches more likely will be like the 3750s when you have in a stacking 2960s if that company is not that big you know but this one is basically and that's on the top and the core layer and that's basically core because it's going to completely distribute everything also you can find them in a distribution layer that's something that you can google it right now for you to be what do you mean that distribution layer i mean i didn't hear that that was a matter because it has nothing to do with us somehow it has to do with basically how that's built up okay um so yeah that's very very expensive a lot of companies have this so obviously even though you're ccna you may have to know how to configure this as well and by the way they're not exactly the same commands you're probably thinking jorge i mean they're cisco they're switches why they don't have the same commands that story behind it don't have the time but i'm telling you they're not exactly the same commands but once you know really well about how to work on just normal switches and you'll be able to figure that out on these ones but yes you know this is basically some of the models this one if i'm not mistaken it's not nine thousand this one is a seven thousand uh and this here they're between two three four five thousand that's basically the models uh and a lot more you see probably you didn't know this but if you i'm asking you that question you can you tell me some of the models i'm gonna expect for you to tell me oh you know you have like the 2960s you know 35 uh 50s i think 3750s two 4500s and that's it right like okay so what's okay let's go to the next question but you didn't make that interesting right like the way that i walk you through you didn't mention the next generation that different you mentioned this and you took probably i took five minutes probably just talking about this topic imagine imagine if you are able to do that man you will get a job okay um so yeah that's basically what we have the next switches now the last thing that i want to talk about right now now that we have you know our ethernet network with another beta switch because we upgrade it yes right we upgrade it we're making some progress okay just to give another view from another switch okay and this is a layer 3 switch as well so anyways it's the ios interconnecting operating system okay so that's basically the ios and that you better know like really you better know some of them because that's something can happen i'm going to ask you whoa can you tell me some of the models they have that you work with switches or can you tell me where the ios's that you know that are out there that you have worked with that way i know if you're really like into it even though if you went through labs but if you just focus on just that the book and some of the videos obviously they're not going to tell you all of those details until you do something an upgrade changing the password or something do some research then it's when you're gonna find out like oh i didn't know that was that ios oh and that one too oh and that's the difference between those two you see that's exactly what makes a difference that's exactly what i teach the students to focus on and how to approach this process i'm learning the right things instead of some bs on a book that will not help you uh anyway so we have the 12 to 12 four and it's not like oh that's only the only ones we have no we have many more 12 point something okay this version basically a new feature or something gets added you know uh older ones it's a version 11 but i haven't seen those uh anymore um more likely the ones that i'm seeing is 12 some of them there's 15 but you see once in technology and just as you probably know when it's when it's just new they're not gonna put it right away until they know it's gonna be uh it's gonna be working you know they don't wanna like update in the next few months just because it's new and then a bug or something you know and then it's gonna mess up like if you're in the i.t you will get related to this okay so that's basically what we have so far so that's it that's all i have on this video probably took me like about 20 25 videos to go through this process now what i'm gonna ask you to do is for you to go to video number three because i have a lot more to uh give you like i want to make sure that once you go through the four videos out of this topic that's not anything else that you need to know about like switches related and what they do not how to configure them in detail because that will take me hours and hours and hours but that's on the membership time if you want to know that you know the way that i teach or whether i walk you through you
