- All right, everyone. So, we're here at this basement
walkout that we have done and this one is a four foot wide walkout. So, the stairs are four feet
wide from the foundation to the foundation that we
pour for the walkout wall. And basically this is a little bit tight if you're going full depth, but because this is only
four stairs deep of a walkout it really is just fine for
regular foot trafficking, accessing the basement. So, on this one, if we look over here this was a five foot wide window, from here to here, before
we started construction, and we were able to put
a three foot wide door on this side with a little
bit of a window on this side, which looks like it's a 16
inch window on this side. So, the reason that we
did this was to be able to tuck these stairs UN
underneath this window here. So, we could start the staircase earlier and then be able to have our
rise and runs, calculated out and work to provide us a three
foot landing at the bottom as well as at the top of the walkout. So, we're gonna go look at some of the other walkouts we've done, and we'll come back to this one and show you one trick that
we are able to do to make sure that everything that
needed to fit inside here was gonna fit as far as moving furniture and those kind of things. So, let's go check out the next one. All right, so, we're coming in here to our next basement walkout today, and this one is a full
depth eight foot foundation in the basement height. Here, we are able to do
a five foot wide walkout. So, the stair treads are five feet wide. And as you come down here, you'll notice it's a lot more spacious and like really you're gonna
be able to fit any couches or anything in here. So, I'm about five 11 and I can touch. I'm just barely touching both sides here. So, that makes it a lot more accessible if you do a five foot wide stair set. So, here, if we look at the door, this also was a very similar window to the last walkout we looked at. It was a five foot wide window. So, here we trimmed the window just a couple inches on each
side a little bit wider. So, we were able to fit a three foot door, with one foot sidelight on each side. And because this is a south facing walkout we wanted to capitalize on the sunshine that's gonna be coming through here to make sure that everybody inside gets a little bit of natural light. So, this is an excellent way
to make sure that that happens. If you have this wide of a
space to use, which a lot of basement windows are five
feet wide, so very common. So, anything that's gonna
be able to fit down here. I mean, you can see couches
and whatnot are gonna be able to make this turn and come in here. And then, this three foot
door is a standard size for any exterior door in America. Most all homes, very standard size, three foot opening or three foot door. So, this is the walkout
that's five feet wide. Okay, so we're here at this other basement walkout entry that we've done, and this particular one is a four and a half foot wide width on the stairs. So, it definitely leaves
enough room to get all of your furniture, couches,
washers, and dryers and those larger bulkier
items down the stairs. And then the landing at the
bottom is also four feet wide, and this particular one is actually five, five and a half feet this other way. That definitely leaves enough
room to turn around anything, and get it through the door. Again, 36 inch door, just
standard exterior door width. So, again, on this one we did, this was a five by five window. So, we had the same 36 inch door, and then we have the 16 inch
window on the left side. So, that works out really
good to make the landing a little bit bigger at the bottom. So, that is a four and a half foot wide basement walkout entry. All right, so we're back
at this basement walkout that we did, and the trick
that we were able to do here was to add a gate in the railing. So, this gate opens fully operable and you can essentially
take anything that you need in through here, and it's a
straight shot into the door. So, this gate opening is actually a little bit wider than 36. It's a 42 inch opening. So, anything that could
fit through the door would fit through this gate, no problem. So, then, it can shut after
you're done moving things in. It's gonna be safe and
secure for your family or your tenants or whoever's living and being around the railing. So, that's what we did here on this one to make sure that anything could fit. All right, so we've made it
to the most recent basement walkout entry project
that we've completed. This one is in Herriman, Utah and it has a six foot wide staircase. So, this is pretty wide,
very, very comfortable. As we make our way down the staircase, you can see that we have a landing. This is six feet wide by about
six and a half feet wide. That's gonna allow for
any furniture that needs to be turned to get right into this door. So, again, this door is a 36
inch door, very standard size, like we've been talking about today, and this, we fit into a
existing window location, which was a four foot
wide window, four by five, five feet tall, four feet wide. And so, we trimmed this
out with some stucco that matched the colors
of the rest of the home, and one thing to be considering
is the natural lighting. So, we put this full light door to have this full window in the door. We didn't have space on the right or left side to put a side light, but this allows for that natural lighting. So, any occupants in the
basement are gonna be able to get that natural lighting and have a comfortable
experience down there. So, we're not sacrificing
natural light when we use a window to turn into a door. So, which one is the right fit for you? We've seen today a four
foot wide entryway, four and a half feet
wide, a five foot wide, and now we're here at this
six foot wide entryway. Each one has different requirements and there really is not
honestly a one size fits all. If you're looking for help
