I am at Appalachian Trail days with thousands of thik groups who are currently hiking the Appalachian Trail and I've only got one thing on my mind what do they got in their [Music] packs any through-hikers want to be on YouTube no no nobody wants nobody wants to be on YouTube who' want to be on YouTube who' want to put their face on a camera all right so my plan is I want to talk to some through hikers see what kind of gear they're taking and see if we can pick up on any Trends to find out what through-hikers are really taking on trail you ther yeah you want to be on YouTube hell yeah dude yeah awesome awesome okay tell tell me your name Rockstar Rockstar okay Rockstar how many nights You' been on trail oh about like 85 or so 70 and so one of the things I'm doing is I'm talking to different through-hikers trying to see what gear they're taking what's your big three right now my big three uh I do a kamik mantis hammock and I rock a Unbound 40 from Hyperlite and then for I don't use a pad I use an underquilt 30° from kamik I was using outdoor vital 0 de for a while and so like uh what are you cooking with cooking with it just like a little uh toes 700 and a BRS little soap the BRS yeah it's not very like fuel efficient but like if you're only doing a single boil every day it doesn't really matter so I don't want to give you stuff if you don't want it okay but i' I've got a sto Amicus that if you're interested I'll show it to you and then you can decide what do you think oh yeah that sounds awesome this is a great stove it's regulated it won't use as much fuel as a BRS it's heavier and it's got the igniter right in there it's it got the igniter I would love this you would love this this all right this is yours got a little stuff sack that's so awesome I appreciate it thank you good deal man thank you for talking to me on camera and uh good hiking okay I'm going to have to start stopping people I'm just asking if they're through hikers I'm I'm looking around like accusing people like excuse me cost me six bucks are you guys are you guys through hiking uh no we did in 22 you did in 22 okay well you just you had the vibe and so yeah you really can't do that I mean like there's a stereotype for what their hackers look like but like everybody can like the everybody can hike the trail this is the this is the microphone testing testing okay are you are you tint or hammock um I have a Destin xid Pro one tent and I love it that's the third xmid that we've heard xmid 2 d xmid 2 so xmid one everyone else have been carrying the two though so you've got the one so what about you what are you carrying Gatewood Cape Gatewood Cape okay awesome yeah this is a you're you're legit man and then uh so like what packs you carrying I had this incredibly shitty Chinese backpack from Amazon for about half the trail the aiji 25 L I think it was 30 L it gave me chronic shoulder pain F that backpack I've got the I've got the Duren 30 L now the wapta yeah that one that one the wapta it's working out great I like it awesome awesome and so what about uh like sleeping bags or quilts what are you what are you carrying I have a catabatic um 15° when I car quilt I can't remember the name of it begins with an S I'm not with an S I should I should know no I should know the name of that Quil and then what do you get that on top of um I'm actually using a c to Summit at the light XT mat and I also have the feather down SE to Summit pillow and it attaches to the mat so it doesn't slide around when you're sleeping what about you what are you sleeping on like a extra wide Ridge rest cut in half so it's wide enough so my ass doesn't fall off of it or roll off but it's not long enough for it to be a luxury I'm telling you you're you're legit man you're like you're sleeping on half a sleeping pad and comfortable I swear to God I swear all right is there anything that um that you're not happy with gosh my phone broke my G broke my power bank broke look at this right there nikore nikore power bank oh my gosh thank you so much you are welcome I'm so glad you sure you don't need this it is my personal one but I will replace it are you sure I am 100% positive I want you to have it yeah for sure for sure oh you're you're welcome okay well I walked all the way over here to Tent City and I was going to try to walk around and see what kind of different tents people are using maybe get a few shots but it's $10 to get in I got no cash and I got no cell phone service so I can't pay online maybe if I can find 10 bucks okay so tell me tell me your names again it was Papa arge 08 Papa arge 08 and freckles freckles they gave me 10 bucks so I can get into 10 city thank you so very much okay I got 10 buckss thank you so very much appreciate it have fun okay I have successfully made it into Tent City it's nice and quiet probably everybody's out at the trail days right now but I have never seen so many backpacking ents and so let's walk around see what kind of Trends we can pick up on okay so right off the bat I'm seeing multiple xids seeing multiple duplexes um a few Nemo tents and a few Big Agnes tents but by far I think the largest number of tens let's see here 25 26 27 28 29 so since we since we had a discussion I was going to tell you I did I did an official count okay and I counted 38 Nemo tents and 45 Durst so Durst dur seems to be the winner now that's just me walking around counting all the tents I see but those do seem to be the two most popular tent so this video and my trip out of Trail Days was made possible by garage grown gear heard of garage gear yes I do have you ever heard of garage grown gear yes have you heard of garage grown gear of course dude I just bought two of their their bags just a couple of minutes ago if you're a serious Backpacker or you want to be a serious Backpacker you need to check out garage grown gear they have everything you need to do any type of hike whether it's a through hike or just a weekend trip they got backpacks they got tents they got sleeping pads they got sleeping bags they got quilts plus they have all the weird stuff that I'm not getting from all the other vendors all in one spot all the weird stuff I love that they specialize in cottage gear and ultra light backpacking gear go check them out at garag gear.com or through the links in the description testing okay so tell me your name again hell Bender uh a hammock camper so I got the enu bug net I've been using a xed as my sleeping pad instead of using a underquilt the three R yeah the three R long green yeah Green yeah okay so that's that's what's keeping you underneath so you don't have like an underquilt right and so then I can also like sleep in the shelters if I need to and then I use a Kelty like 19° quilt thing I got is there anything that you're like not happy with right now I would say is like my quilt it's just been a little bit heavy and I was thinking it's a 20° and it's starting to warm up so I was thinking I could switch to a lighter Quil okay so I've got a l coyote 30° top quilt would you you want that yeah great so there we go L coyote top quilt courtesy garage growing gear thank you so much for talking to me today yeah thank you so much all right good deal tell me your name Mouse uh big three so my sleeping bag I use an an enlighted equipment Sigma the 20° uh backpack hyperlight Unbound 55 I replaced a Ula circuit um the circuit uh love it to death it's purple which I don't think they make anymore which sucks but it was uh the buckles just were the big problem for me I broke my Buckle twice then the tent I switched from a zpack duplex to the dur and X Mid 2 I loved the duplex I had it I used it in Colorado a bunch um but my biggest problem the humidity I woke up all four doors were open and I leaned up and scraped my head and I feel like I just took a shower everything was wet inside and so I got the xmid 2 with the fly not the pro so much better I don't have to worry about my like my sleeping bag like the foot box being wet or anything like that so I'm super happy with that that double wall it makes a big difference 100% 100% okay so I've been talking with tell me your name again Puma Puma and so you're not you're not through hiking necessarily but you're hiking a big portion of the at is that right correct I started a week ago and we'll see how far I get and you've been having some some kind of gear problem I bought the wrong tent on Amazon What tent were you using that uh that wasn't working out for you it doesn't even have a name it was was a $15 tent 5 oh my goodness okay so I was talking with Puma for a little bit and and I wasn't going to interview him because he's not doing the whole Trail but I'm I'm not either and so um what we were talking about is tent problems and to be honest with you I've I've got a really nice tent in my pack it is the tarp tent stratospire one if you want it I'll give it to you all right so this is the stratospire um one from from uh tarp tint and so I'm going to give that to Puma he needs it needs it more than I do and so I hope that serves you very well Dr thank you for keeping me dry the rain it turns out is my biggest fear okay so Trail days is winding down what are some of the major themes we saw today the dersen xmid does seem to be the most popular tent the tensor does seem to be the most popular sleeping pad Mo tensor the tensor Trail all weather tensor quilts were better than sleeping bags and the most popular stove was the BRS 3000 thank you to everyone who talked to me today and all the people that came up during Trail days and said that they watch the channel I literally could not do this if you guys didn't watch so thank you very much thank you to garage Grom gear for sponsoring this video please like subscribe and do all those other things and as always thanks for watching
