Hamdan was born on November 14, 1982 in
a wealthy and influential Arab sheikh family from the Al Maktoum clan. His
father Mohammed heads the emirate of Dubai and is the Prime Minister of the UAE.
Eastern rulers don t like to talk about their private lives. Even the exact number of Mohammed
ibn Rashid's wives is not known - different sources give numbers from 5 to 7. Hamdan's mother
Hind bint Maktoum is the sheikh's first and main wife. She hardly ever appears in public. The
only thing we know about her is that she married very young and devoted herself to her family. She
gave birth to 12 children by Mohammed ibn Rashid, including Hamdan, who is the 4th child
in the family and the 2nd oldest son.
The heir to the throne was to be Rashid ibn
Mohammed Al Maktoum, the first-born of the emir of Dubai. He and his brother Hamdan had the
warmest relations. They first graduated from an aristocratic boys' school in Dubai together,
then they continued their studies in the UK. The brothers entered the Royal Military
Academy in Sandhurst. At the same elite educational institution, Princes William and
Harry studied at one time. Then Hamdan studied at the London School of Economics, which is one
of the top five universities in the world.
According to the line of succession, the royal
throne was intended for the eldest son, Rashid. However, he formally renounced his title and on
February 1, 2008 Prince Hamdan took the official oath as the sheikh's successor in his place.
The reasons for the abdication were stated in secret documents published by Wikileaks.
Rashid had allegedly committed a grave crime by killing his father's aide in his royal office
in Dubai while in a state of rage. This angered the ruler and prompted a decision to change
the order of inheritance. Another version is that it was Rashid's addiction to drugs.
In 2015, Hamdan's older brother died under mysterious circumstances. According
to some reports, the cause of death was cardiac arrest, while others said
he was killed in a firefight in Yemen.
Hamdan was saddened by his older brother's
early passing: "Today I lost my best friend and comrade from my childhood, my dear
brother Rashid. You will be missed.
The crown prince is a favorite
of the press in his homeland, and fans have given him the nickname Aladdin.
Hamdan is one of the few Eastern rulers who is active on social media. But the information on
them is given in a very dosed manner. You can learn a lot about the young sheikh's hobbies from
the photos. He shows his luxurious life - yachts, expensive cars, thoroughbred horses. He enjoys
diving, parachuting, falconry and snowboarding.
One of Hamdan's greatest passions is speed.
He is an excellent rider and racer. He has a collection of many expensive cars and elite
horses. The young emir has repeatedly acted as a participant in equestrian sports, he is
the winner of many international awards.
Hamdan is also very fond of nature. Not
only does he constantly post photos with birds and animals and take part in actions to save
endangered species of wild animals. On his orders, a personal nursery was built near the palace,
where rare fauna, such as white tigers, are kept.
On Instagram, Hamdan has an account under the
name Fazza. In Arabic it means "the one who rushes to help". The young sheikh actually helps
a lot of people: he patronizes various charitable organizations, in particular he is a member
of the committee of the Dubai Autism Center.
Hamdan is also known as the author
of excellent poems on lyrical and patriotic themes - he also writes
them under the pseudonym Fazza.
In 2010, Wikileaks disclosed many secrets of
royal families around the world. This information was transmitted by American diplomats to the U.S.
State Department. They mentioned the Dubai Prince Hamdan. In particular, the documents referred to
the drug addiction of the heir and his bisexual addictions. It should be noted that Wikileaks
scandalous information about Hamdan disappeared from the site very quickly. This case was a rare
exception to the deletion of data from Wikileaks. Such drastic measures were most likely taken
by Sheikh Mohammed wishing to protect the reputation of his future successor. But this is
unverified information, which may be just rumors.
In general, very little is known about
the private life of the heir to the Emir of Dubai. On May 15, 2019, he married
Sheikha bint Saeed, who is his cousin.
On May 21, 2021, a post appeared on Fazza's
Instagram account announcing that the crown prince had become a father of two children, a boy
and a girl. Their names are Rashid and Shaiha.
In February 2023, Hamdan had
a son and named him Mohammed.
However, there are no pictures of the crown
prince and his wife together on Instagram. The sheikh strictly follows the traditions
established in Muslim society and avoids family publicity. Whether "Aladdin"
is happy in his marriage and whether he will have more wives remains a mystery.
And that's all for today. What do you think of Sheikh Hamdan? Write in the comments.
