What It Means To Be An Adventure Photographer

this isn't a life that is for everyone they don't teach it at school no one prepares you for it anybody heard of nine-to-five I haven't [Music] Oh howdy it takes focus sacrifice in a bit of madness looking at the early days when I started photography I see this big bubble of breezy innocence [Music] I go riding in the forest where I grew up with no agenda and not a care in the world then I graduated college freedom hours my own boss left to my own devices with the world in Ferrara me off I went on long road trips across North America camera in tow I learned to develop a love-hate relationship with the weather rain was both blessing and a curse [Music] snow is good though I always welcome snow he wasn't comfortable living out of the back of a car dollar cheeseburgers truck stop showers but the things I got to see and do made it all worth it [Music] packing and unpacking the grind shooting and then editing into the night there was the beat of my life for years because I had no ties I could go whatever the wind would take me I wasn't a very good friend though always on the move and would never call but hey I'll make new ones on the road I thought [Music] one day however it dawns on you this has become your job you have to go out and make these pictures yeah you have a boss it's called the client the breezy innocence is all but gone but what wakes you up at night is the pressure to stay relevant you constantly have to reinvent yourself and find new ways to tell stories a self-doubt and vulnerability become your best friends the biggest realization we can make is that it's all cyclical there's always highs in those valleys and Peaks as adventure photographers our work is defined by capturing real raw moments where humanity's faced against nature's most savage elements we often have to be in the middle of the action [Music] the moments are fleeting the light is rarely perfect [Music] and the conditions are harsh when the elements all aligned in our favor though we fight gold and our work is celebrated it is the pursuit of these rare moments that drive us we don't measure our growth by looking at the times we nail it failure is progress that personal growth is addicted nothing provides it like adventure photography so despite the struggles we keep pushing onwards towards the summit because a life that's full of adventure is the only one to live [Music]
