What is Canvas? | Learning Management System | Swinburne Professional

Canvas is the name of our Learning Management System- an online tool to both distribute and receive information from our participants. The Canvas interface is designed to be intuitive, providing a digital environment both participants and facilitators will be immediately familiar with. The Dashboard includes notifications and helps both participants and facilitators to prioritise tasks and share information. Canvas is focussed on enhancing communication between participants and facilitators. Using inbox, calendar and announcements, facilitators can manage and prioritise communication with their participants. Participants can also personalise their email and Canvas app notifications. The homepage provides an introduction and easy access to all the important elements of the unit. In Modules, participants can view the entire unit content, organised to provide a clear map of their learning journey. Participants can navigate from page to page, easily accessing learning resources and engaging with learning tasks and goals. Canvas provides a framework and tools to enrich assessment and feedback. Facilitators can create graded quizzes, practice quizzes and surveys that can help to assess participants' achievements and evaluate their learning needs. Using a variety of Canvas tools and tools that integrate with Canvas, facilitators can provide rich feedback on participant work. Canvas Discussions and Groups help participants take ownership of their own learning. Participants can join threaded discussions, and bring comments to the forefront by "liking" posts. Facilitators can also set Discussions as graded activities. In Canvas Groups, participants can initiate their own group conversations, conferences and document collaborations. Canvas is made to be simple, easily accessible across multiple devices, and to encourage participants to connect with their learning.
