[Music] what's going on Imperials it's Emperor Cubone here the Pokémon types are always something to consider when forming a team invest too much in one type and you'll have a serious downside but then if you don't have enough coverage to attack you might be stuck without a way to win your next battle and of course one of the joys of Pokémon is combining types together to interact in different and unique ways either creating many more weaknesses or strengthening them significantly however what if that weren't the case what if instead of having so many dual typed Pokémon they were all destined to be a single type how would each Pokémon change if they could only embody one element now why would they do this well maybe there were some limitations in the early days or maybe just a lack of creativity from the developers I mean some people are still under the delusion that they never had dual types to begin with but let's do take bulbas or for instance the first starter is a grass and poison type getting to lean into both the plant side and the toxic side however in reality it doesn't really fully utilize that poison nature all that much so you would be forgiven for not even knowing that it is dual type then mistake it for some simple coverage plus staying pure grass would maintain that relationship between the other starters as well so I think it's fitting for both gameplay purposes but also just the general behavior of these Pokémon I could easily see the Venusaur line being pure grass types with copious amounts of poison coverage and the same goes for Charizard obviously the first two stages being pure fire means that it wouldn't make sense to suddenly become a Pure flying type not that such a jump couldn't work but just not with the Flaming Dragon over here in order to keep the cohesion of the starter Trio yes but also because there are plenty of Pokemon now that can fly but are not flying types almost as if there's some difference in the ability of flight and having an inherent connection to the Primeval magic of the Skies so would it really be so hard to imagine a lizard growing wings to gain the skill but not the attribute itself and still be personified by just the fire then we don't see another dual type until Butterfree and once again I am comfortable saying that it should maintain its primary typing of bug and have the flying type relegated to a natural phenomenon of its biology after all Butterfree gets plenty of psychic type attacks but they don't get to Define it enough to be that type Plus its pre-evolutions are also pure bug as well so why not go ahead and join them besides its counterpart Beedrill also flies but it's two completely different types and of course speaking of this is the first one that's really kind of difficult because I could honestly see the Weedle line going either way they could be fully bug or fully poison however I do think the bug wins out a little bit mostly because of the metamorphosis through line but also to balance out the overall roster of this newly monot typed region we'll see a bit more more on that later but Beed turning to Pure bug would still work because it would stand apart from its exclusive Friend by offering up a lot of poison moves in its pool instead and their stats make sure that they're not a carbon copy however we finally see the opposite with Pidgey who absolutely could be pure flying I have no idea why they felt the compulsion to have every plain bird also be normal type because we've now seen that it's possible for them to exist without it but I think we can all agree that the Pidgeot line is definitively more flying than than they are normal so if they only went with one type back then pure flying would have made its debut a lot sooner it's not like we need to preserve large numbers of normal types either because there are plenty of those to go around so that's why speo and FOH would slide right into being pure flying as well being just as tied to the air as their bird Brethren from before but then the next dual typed Pokémon aren't until neid Queen and Nido King and really poison and ground is such a cool combination that it's a shame to split them apart but if I had to pick one I think poison does make the most sense I appreciate the ground that gets added but the previous stages all being poison type does sort of tip the scales a bit and we are going to strip back several of the other dual poison types that are in Kanto so I feel like they deserve to keep a few of them besides the already solo poison types plus Giovani could even keep them on his team if he wanted a little variety since they'll still be able to keep their powerful ground attacks after that we find Jigglypuff and I actually think that pure fairy would suit these Pokémon rather well with which is a bit odd because it started Life as a pure normal type but fairy just seems to be a better fit for these pink blobs and not just because gen one is barely scraping by with fairies as is whereas the Zubat line is another that I think would be fine without the flying type they don't really get a lot of flying Moves In the Beginning anyway and like we said some poison types with wings being able to fly isn't out of place although losing that immunity to ground might hurt them in the eyes of some trainers out there with Oddish I think it's an easy Gra type since it's basically just a walking onion of some kind however when it evolves to Gloom and vile plume I'm thinking they could maybe switch over to poison instead this is when the stench becomes a lot more pronounced along with the Ooze coming out of its mouth and even if they have petals on their heads they don't look as much like grass so I would be comfortable sticking them in the poison camp and if you think that's not fair to take from grass that brings us to Paris who would in fact be pure bug the mushrooms on its back can just provide an excuse for a bunch of grass type covers however once it evolves I would classify Parasect as a grass type Pokémon this lines up perfectly with the lore of the fungus fully taking over the insect by having that reflect in its typing and changing from one to the other that kind of nuance is lost when they both get to stay dual typed the whole time next is venette and I do think that it will likely stay bug as well the Bas stage especially is clearly primarily bug related and I could see an argument for venomoth being poison but I would say an abundance of poison type covered attacks would be fine and not Define the creature any more than the excessive psychic moves that they also get access to and of course next up comes Poliwrath who is obviously a water type because as it is people kind of question why it's a fighting type in the first place I don't mind it personally but Poliwrath needs to stick with its other stages in water where it belongs then we have Bellsprout and I think it might be best to have them all be pure grass I know that they're described as having crazy strong acids but they look much more plant like than the Oddish line so if you wanted to maybe trade out victory bell for poison I could see that but currently I think leaving them all in the same category fits and if you have a problem with that luckily entacle becomes pure poison instead you could live in the water without being a water type and having these jellyfish stay poison would provide a little variety while surfing so that it's not just the same water types over and over just be sure to watch out for their sting right after that we have Geodude and I don't think it's any surprise to have them stay your rock I mean they are just some living stones after all and it's kind of unnecessary for them to be ground at all especially since geodo doesn't even touch the ground and floats all the time but it would have been nice to have at least one pure rock line from the first generation more interesting in my eyes is Slowpoke who I think would be best served going to the psychic type just by looking at them you wouldn't even guess that they were water types with the closest link being slow bro as a hermit crab but they've already got a massive move pool so water could just be a part of of that and it would make the psychic type a little more unpredictable in not just having vaguely human-shaped creatures next we have Magnemite and you might not agree but we have to go with pure steel right I mean the whole thing is made out of metal with magnets as their Primary Weapons so the steel side is far more intrinsically tied to these Pokémon they can just have some electric in their move pool and it's not just because they're the only steel types available here but it doesn't hurt farfetched on the other hand I would say should go to the Flying type as another of the predictable regular Birds to fill out this monot typing however after that we have the Doduo line who I would go the opposite and say that they should stay pure normal famously these birds don't actually fly so losing that type wouldn't really be a big deal and it would keep some of that Aven flare within the normal type Camp since we seem to be losing a lot but then once the Pokémon seal evolves dong becomes a water and ice type and it is a fairly even split but I'm leaning towards ice not just because it's the first ice Ty type in the entire Pokémon franchise but dong already kind of gets overlooked as it is so if we could give it anything to stand out like making it one of the very few ice types it would be worth it however on the flip side we have Cloister who I would go the opposite way and make him stay water it's not like the shell is made out of ice and he doesn't really have any icy characteristics to speak of so it could easily fall back into the water typing of its previous stage and then it's no surprise that the Gastly line would stay Ghost types because otherwise we we would just lose the type altogether and we can't have that besides they were never that poisonous in nature anyway so I doubt many people would mind them losing that psychic weakness and actually being able to do their one job and like before Onyx is obvious for staying pure rock because it's just a long line of rocks in a row so how could it not be I could get why it might be ground over the Golem line but it would be lost without Rock then passing over the 100 Milestone we have execute who's a bit more unique and I would classify as psychic people are confused already about how they're grass types but even if they did stay as seeds the psychic link that they all share as a hive mind would be enough to justify it but then exeggutor would change into grass when it evolves becoming a full-blown tree doesn't mean that it can't keep those psychic attacks and changing into this new type sort of makes it a bit of a pattern for grass in this setup which is pretty cool now with ryhorn we finally get to see something lose the rock element since I would make these rhinos ground type instead after all we've seen other safari animals as pure ground types and it works out fine even if the ride on line is a bit more thick skinned it doesn't need Rock to keep those defenses high in the first place so it would be nice to secure a few more Pokémon in the ground type column then we go all the way down to star me for our next dual type and here I would say that they should opt for psychic staru makes sense as a water type since it's just a simple starfish but star me doubl up and turning purple takes a full turn into the cosmic side of things and the psychic type is the perfect way to signify its connection to the Stars whether or not Misty still gets to use one in her gym I guess is up to you and likewise I would give Mr mime psychic as well it only got the fairy type later on anyway and with its emphasis on creating barriers and invisible walls I think it deserves to keep that ESP power base going to maintain the illusion but scyther on the other hand this one was a little more difficult but I came to the conclusion that flying would be best this not only provides a greater assortment of archetypes in the flying category besides just the rejected bird type but it also firmly sets it apart from pincer who we already have as a strong late game bug so we don't need Scyther to fill out that role so having the Mantis switched to Pure flying would certainly help keep things interesting speaking of we got Jinx who is quite a unique case as well and even if psychic might be the more obvious one I am going to say it should remain ice typ we've already got so few of them I don't want them eradicated and Jinx being an icy yo-kai ensures that the ice type isn't tied to one specific style plus these psychic coverage attacks would warrant you picking it over other similar Frosty choices now for Gyarados I think we'd all be fine with the pure water typing I mean it's not even the dragon type like people wanted nor is it even dark type like its Mega Evolution and losing the flying type would honestly help it out by ratcheting down that electric weakness so it seems like a win-win where whereas our friend Lapras I think should fall on the ice side of things as we've said it would not hurt to have a Pokémon from another type be able to swim and there should be at least one strong ice type that you can get at a reasonable level so the transport Pokémon gets to be the proud face of the solo ice type crew the bustle Pokémon come next and for alanite water seems like the best bet they are prehistoric sea creatures after all and they always seem to have more water attacks than Rock anyway so I promise my rationale is more than just they're a blue color so they must be water although Kabuto should probably counter as being rock this is mainly the inverse of its counterpart with very little attaching it to water yet having plenty of connections to rock I mean just look at the giant blades made out of stone it's basically a sead dwelling cleor and I think it would be a great idea to have the fossils result in different types so you never know what you're going to get and this carries over to Aerodactyl rounding it out switching to a pure flying type that gives this Resurrected pterodactyl a way to stand out on its own and you could still give it high defenses or HP to sort of mimic the durability of the rock which would also make it uniquely useful compared to other flying types and again showcase that flying can indeed be more diverse by having other design Inspirations like this impressive ancient flyer speaking of flying we do have the legendary birds and you're with me on stripping off their flying type right we've got more than enough Birds there and these mythic creatures are unmistakably intense Tangled with their respective elements the worst that you could say is that Articuno might not be covered in ice but I would still mark it down for that type regardless and then of course Zapdos is made out of thunder and lightning while mol trce is literally on fire and while their designs can offer some nice variety for their respective types the flying type attacks available to them especially would keep them relevant against the lower entries of their individual elements and lastly we have Dragonite who I would put in the same camp of removing the flying type there's no way that we could get rid of the only fully evolved dragon type in the region so in a world of solitary types we absolutely must keep Dragonite as a dragon I mean Lance uses enough non-d dragons already for us to do anything different so in this hypothetical world the type layouts become quite different poison basically gets cut in half but still only barely drops from first down to second place and likewise grass dips below fire to become the lowest number of the starter types ground certain loses far too many for my taste but unfortunately it does make the most sense to do it this way however surprisingly the psychic type Stands Strong barely having to give up anything flying would certainly make a more substantial impact on the games with more solo flying types than we have now and of course despite all the shuffling around there are still no dark types to be found in Kanto but I've got to admit it's pretty satisfying to total up every type to get an even 151 to form the entire roster instead of many Pokémon double dipping like they they do now so as much as I would never advocate for this to happen it is interesting to consider how everything being monotype would affect the games and even some of the gym leaders maybe there will be a rom hack for this eventually someday but what do you think of only single typed Pokémon let me know down in the comments also be sure to leave a like share this video And subscribe so that you too can become an imperial today and until next time stay grounded [Music]
