What Harry Did With His Family After Prince Philip's Funeral

[Music] those of us who watched the funeral of prince philip duke of edinburgh on saturday might have gotten hit with all the feels from watching queen elizabeth ii sitting alone mourning the loss of the love of her life to seeing prince charles in tears then seeing princess harry and william exchange a few words as they left the funeral together with kate middleton it was powerful stuff now it appears they did more than just leave the chapel together because the telegraph says that prince harry was given a chance to speak to his father prince charles prince william and his grandmother queen elizabeth ii after the emotional ceremony on saturday the talks gave all parties a chance to communicate face to face for the first time in more than a year it was said the chat lasted more than an hour harry's relationship with his family was thought to be particularly rocky after the bombshell interview that he and his wife meghan markle gave oprah winfrey in it harriet claimed that his family was concerned about the color of his son archie skin and that his father charles wasn't taking his calls several tabloid reports are crediting prince charles for engineering the circumstances that allowed princess william and harry to speak to each other queen elizabeth's former press secretary dickie arbiter told good morning britain that he would have been surprised if the brothers hadn't spoken to each other after the funeral he went on to say it was probably charles initiative sending the cars away so that everybody could walk 200 meters back to the castle as a good icebreaker arbiter also said that it took kate middleton the duchess of cambridge to set it up so the brothers would have a chance to speak he explained harry went to speak to her and she kind of stepped sideways to allow the two brothers to talk together while the optics were powerful the daily mail's richard k quoted one royal figure as saying make no mistake this was as much for the benefit of the cameras as anything substantial don't read too much into it baby steps maybe royal commentators like former prime minister john major had voiced their hopes that the princes would take the opportunity to use the funeral as a way of ending the rift between them major who has appointed the boy's guardian after the death of princess diana had told the bbc the friction that we are told has arisen is a friction better ended as speedily as possible they shared emotion they shared grief at the present time because of the death of their grandfather i think this is an ideal opportunity another royal commentator who chose to remain anonymous told the sun it's early days but you'd hope this is exactly the first step philip would have wished for it is not known what was said behind closed doors and when the cameras were turned off but it's unfathomable to think mexican and oprah did not come up still there was the hope that the talks would eventually lead to a positive conclusion for all concerned the telegraph did not speculate on what was discussed but it suggested that this might have been a chance for prince harry to have what reporter victoria ward suggested would be quote a final word with his grandmother before he returned home to california before prince philip's death it was thought that prince william and harry's first face-to-face meeting after harry and megan's bombshell interview with oprah winfrey would be at the unveiling of their mother statue which was scheduled for july historian robert lacy has described the feud between the brothers as complex but also adds that none of this would have happened if their mother princess diana had not died this story goes right back to the beginning when they were children lacey said one of the tragedies of her death was that it deprived them william and harry of their more active parent i think her emphasis on getting the boys to speak their minds to each other and say what's on their minds would have come into play but you know even harry and i over the years have not talked enough about our you know our mother you know we've never enough here's hoping these are merely the first steps in repairing the fractured relationship between william and harry
