What Happened to Hyolyn - The Girl That Shook Kpop

[Applause] that is healing an artist that was born with natural talent a woman in Korea with tattoos tan skin and performed what we see as normal dances but in Korea they saw differently today we're gonna cover killin and her journey into kpop from her youth to sISTAR and where she is now but before looking forward I was like to look back Yoli was born in 1990 and it wasn't easy from the start due to a premature birth Elin went through several surgeries and grew up being sick often but would eventually completely recover and start living a healthy and happy life he only said in her childhood she loved singing and dancing as many kids do however she wouldn't shake the urge to make her whole life about it so with little to no professional training or experience in singing or dancing Gillian started auditioning for companies and it proved how much talent she was born with Helen went on to addition for JYP entertainment twice before ending up first among all auditions she joined JYP as a trainee and spent time there training with future k-pop idols like besties Uji C Christian and exid hani believe it or not these at the time unknown trainees were preparing to debut as jyp ZnO girl group called little big mama this project group would have debuted in place of what would be Miss a somehow through various reasons between the trainees and typ entertainment the group never happened and all the members went their own way but for Hulan she went back to auditioning within the same year he only got a chance as starship entertainment [Music] starship didn't want to pass up on Conan and immediately signed her as a trainee until debuting months later as the leader of the girl group sISTAR push-push was the group's debut song in which they would soon transition to be well known for the refreshing visuals and vocal abilities with Hillen leading the way sISTAR was on the way up when starship decided to create a subunit of sISTAR in 2011 and I have a feeling you already know what it is but I'll give you a hint the song that invented body rolls my boy was another success for the girls of sISTAR this new subunit called sistar19 ed of course chillin this along with another successful promotion for the subunit sistar19 led starship to give human her first opportunity to have a solo promotion her solo debut kiln M produced the album love and hate with two title tracks but the track one way love proved killed in star power as she won her first solo first place on a music show with many many more to come little side note here if you ask someone in Korea right now about a group or artist that isn't like BTS or twice they might not even know who you're talking about but Hillman was the hottest star in Korean music at the time she came from a popular group and proved her own power as a solo artist singing oh is tease for dramas going on variety shows and booking the spot that seeing the Korean version of the song let it go to the theme song of the world famous phenomenon frozen by Disney Korea that is big like kids in Korea are growing up listening to Helen she continued to win over the Korean public with her renditions of classic Korean songs on TV shows and modern ones as well she even stepped out of her comfort zone by appearing on unpretty Rapstar to which it was interesting then for the first time in three years she only promoted solo with the release paradise in 2016 this was a turning point for her musically I would say it was something sISTAR wouldn't do it is solely a brand new sound only human would make it might have been a Instagram that after leaving starships she would begin her solo career by creating her own one-woman agency this doesn't come as much as a surprise I mean is chillin we're talking about killin it's anything but easy to start anew but it's even harder to create your own label very few artists do it but now you get to see more and more artists and groups do it after leaving their parent company and starting again you start to see success stories now with Zico with his label Koz entertainment with the song any song demolishing charts I missed my opportunity to do that while everyone was doing it so now's my chance and so in 2018 Hulan got to work she's saying for more OSTs had a collab with got7 in the song winning only you which should have been a whole promotion I mean that song was popping not only then is when human announced to the world what she has been working on it I don't think that girl was anywhere near ready : started a whole three part project starting with college [Music] okay we all know Hulan can sing any bird out of a job but dance like this - I really love that : without pressure taking on the challenge herself did this demanding and tiring choreography Holly although probably it didn't hit hard in Korea it did for international fans racking up over a million views in 24 hours I mean everyone liked this song it's not like there was something else everyone was looking at right the other part of the three part project was the song CC which was heard dipping into the summer Queen concept sISTAR made popular and the final single BAE you can see a transition into a bit more western sound and feeling now I have to mention this because there's hilarious children made headlines after making people uncomfortable at the 2018 KBS drama Awards it's actually beat Jenna and Kai and the neighbors most searched keywords this was number one above Jenny and Kai I mean I biggest news on New Year's Day two days ago she was appearing on the 2018 KBS drama Wars and she performed there dolly was the one that made everybody mad people on the internet are posting some million comments because if you've seen that performance it shows a lot of ass causing a negative response from Korean edison's they are so eager to show their asses maybe she was jealous of hasa getting attention I hate them both anyways why y'all scared of some ass cheeks that's my real question but is 2020 now what is coming up - well she is still creating music if you want to hear her lovely voice again she's posting original music and covers on her YouTube channel and again like I mentioned it is hard to do things on your own being a part of starships there's a pretty big kpop company and they do a lot of the marketing and booking for you for bridge and her own label there's a smaller team there's a smaller budget and there's less connections that is why you don't see Hulan too often she still makes appearances on TV recently she is still one of the most iconic singers to come out of kpop no doubt when you say the name Hulan it makes you think about a truly talented and original artist still there is no other artists like Hill and pushing the ideal look of what Koreans expect of them sure the names Ailee Hyuna sunny and Haase come to mind but no girl a k-pop started from an uncertain future in life to work hard to achieve what she always wanted
