What does a Cyber Security Analyst do?

in Massa has a broad portfolio of products and services global networks and coverage solutions that keep our customers partners and staff connected communicating and working 24/7 365 days a year but there are bad guys out in the world they're working around the clock and this means our networks and the information they transmit can be susceptible to all kinds of nasty things you could say they want what we have my name is James Weston and I work as a cyber security analyst for Inmarsat our work covers all areas of the business from simply advising colleagues on password complexity data loss mitigation and other security best practices to the other end of the spectrum protecting technical information relating to assets in space we safeguard the critical functions and the data of our aviation maritime and land-based customers the screens tell us where to concentrate our attention this might be a spike in network traffic indicating an attempted denial of service attack or an increase in failed authentications games one of our systems we are able to respond in a variety of ways with a broad range of tools that enable us to drill down into an instance to investigate further or we can simply lock a system down we like it boring but it rarely is as a former police officer I am naturally suspicious 99 times out of a hundred there's nothing there but sometimes something sticks out and your instinct tells you to investigate more from an early age I had an interest in computers which led me to study programming I became interested in how code who make software do things it was not meant to do for that reason I studied a degree in information security in the police I saw a shift in the nature of crime ever increasingly the bad guys are distributing malware and infiltrating networks this front line is behind a screen not on the streets this is a job in an exciting company that does amazing work all around the world I'm proud to be a possible Inmarsat is doing and what is planned for the future unfortunately the threats we face and not going away they will increase and become increasingly more sophisticated but don't worry we're on it [Music]
