foreign [Music] hey kids in today's video we will be learning about the ecosystem are you ready let's begin [Music] what is an ecosystem an ecosystem is a community of living and non-living things that interact with each other in a particular environment it includes all of the plants animals and other living things in an area as well as the non-living things such as air water sunlight and soil let's go over the different types of ecosystems there are many different types of ecosystems including Forest ocean grasslands deserts and more each ecosystem has unique features such as the type of plants and animals that live there the climate and the topography foreign food chains and food webs [Music] in an ecosystem animals rely on each other for food a food chain shows how energy is passed from one living thing to another for example a plant is eaten by a caterpillar which is eaten by a bird which is then eaten by a fox a food web shows the complex interactions between different species in an ecosystem laughs the importance of ecosystems ecosystems are important for many reasons they provide habitats for animals and plants and they help to purify the air and water [Music] they also provide resources that humans use such as food medicine and building materials [Music] by protecting ecosystems we can help to ensure that they continue to provide these essential services [Music] now here are fun facts about ecosystems the largest ecosystem on Earth is the Marine ecosystem which covers more than 70 percent of the planet's surface [Music] the smallest ecosystem on Earth is called a micro ecosystem which can be as small as a drop of water the Amazon rainforest is the largest rainforest ecosystem in the world covering more than 2.7 million square miles [Music] the Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef ecosystem in the world [Music] Yellowstone National Park in the United States is a famous example of a terrestrial ecosystem known for its geysers hot springs and diverse wildlife [Music] the African Savannah is a grassland ecosystem that is home to many iconic animals such as lions elephants and giraffes [Music] an estuary is an ecosystem where fresh water and salt water meet and is home to many unique species that can tolerate both types of water a keystone species is an animal or plant that has a disproportionately large effect on its ecosystem for example if sea otters were to disappear from their ecosystem the entire ecosystem would be impacted due to the rule in controlling the population of sea urchins and that is all for today's video I hope you enjoyed learning about ecosystems today take care now bye bye [Music] enjoyed a video please click the Subscribe button also give us a like that will help us we thank you so much and we do hope that you enjoy our videos see you soon [Music]
