-So, in my living room,
I actually have two of my biggest finds
and steals of -- Cash, sit. [ Laughs ] Hi, guys. I'm Shelby Terschuren
and this is Cash. Welcome to my sweet digs. Fun facts about my apartment. It was actually made
in the 1970s and that's what
inspired my aesthetic. Alright, come on in. [ Upbeat hip hop plays ] I live in a one-bedroom
apartment in Los Angeles, California,
in the Brentwood area, and I pay $2,350 for rent. ♪♪ For the rent price, it's great. I can walk everywhere. My favorite coffee shop
is Alfred's. It's right down the street. My absolute favorite restaurant
near my apartment is Sugarfish. It's fresh sushi. I can walk to it
in three minutes. I feel super lucky. The apartment
was originally listed for close to $2,800 and then,
I got it down to $2,350. I used to live
right down the street and, one night, I walked
by this apartment and loved the architecture
on the outside and I looked at it and said, "I'm going to live there
one day," and, sure enough,
a year later, now I'm here. I would describe my home style
as mid-century funky boho, if that's even a thing. I'm really into old rock. I love the '70s.
I also love the '50s, so, I really want to incorporate
those fun colors, funky retro prints. So when you first walk
into my apartment, it's really just walking
into open space. So, my priority was making
sure that it still flowed, but also giving each area
its designated space and time. It was really important for me to build out my space
and make it feel really open, so I layered the entryway with the same
cheetah print carpets. I got them matching
so they would almost create little hallways for the house
because it is just a very open floor plan. I absolutely love
this shelf that I found. I love laying it with fun,
colorful pieces. You can see a few different Marilyn Monroe pictures
on there. I found this really fun,
funky vase at a flea market, which I absolutely love. The bench holds all
of my workout shoes, so it's really convenient
for storage. And then, I have this amazing
full-length mirror, which I am using as I'm like rushing out the door,
to go check my outfits. ♪♪ This area was kind of tricky
when I first moved in because there were
so many moving pieces and different pieces
I wanted to include, so, making the dining area
more of a nook, instead of just having
a table in the middle, really gave this apartment
the opportunity to be open and flowy. I actually put together
two regular benches, sized them up in the corner, and that's kind of how I created
this little nook area. And I also just recently got
these like wicker black chairs, which I'm absolutely
obsessed with. And it's just a really
comfortable place to eat. and I wanted to make sure that,
when other people come over, they're also comfortable. ♪♪ So this is kind of the health
and wellness area. I have some of my workout
and yoga stuff in the corner and I have my smoothie bar
over here, that has all my teas,
my vitamins, protein. I have my Vitamix
on there as well. Have a smoothie every day,
drink tea every night, so I'm constantly using this. So this is a West Elm piece that
I actually got from OfferUp. I think, originally, it was
listed around $1,100, $1,200, and I got it for $350. It was a little used,
but I honestly just put a little work into it and changed the knobs out
to match the gold aesthetic and it's definitely one of my
favorite finds of the apartment. I really pride myself
on bargain shopping. I found some of my most amazing,
favorite pieces of the house from OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace,
Craigslist. I found this couch
that I'm sitting on, that's originally $2,000,
for $500, so that's something that I
recommend everyone doing, is be patient and make sure that you're like looking
at secondhand sources, for sure. So, since I moved
during the pandemic, it was really important for me
to find an apartment that would allow me
to have a space to have kind of a sectioned-off
desk area where I can go, dial in, not get distracted
by other things going on. I've worked at Adobe, now,
for four years. I work with our
e-commerce platform. The one thing I love
about Adobe is they have a lot of creative
products and solutions, so I've been able
to use those to help me with my other passion,
which is interior design. So I kind of made this basic,
plain wall into my desk area. I put some fun prints up. I got this acrylic desk
that was really important. Because it is in such like
a pass-through area, I wanted to make sure
that it didn't feel like a bulky piece of furniture
hanging outside the wall. So I was really stoked
with how this turned out. So, when I first viewed
this apartment, I saw a huge black,
bulky light fixture. So that was one of the
first things I changed, even before I moved in. I upgraded it to a mid-century
light fixture, which really just tied
together the entire area. So I'm a huge plant person. My best friend and I
counted one night. I think I have close to 52 and they really thrive
in the light in this apartment. ♪♪ So this is
my cute little kitchen. It's a little hidden,
it's small, but it has everything I need. My favorite thing that I did
in this kitchen was I really wanted to keep the
gold accents and pull those in. These were the original handles that were all over the kitchen,
in the bathroom, and I replaced them myself with these beautiful
gold handles. I think I got 12 of them
for around $30 on Amazon, but it definitely took me
a few hours to do. I had to remove all of them and then re-screw all
of these back in. And, at the time,
I also did not have a drill, so I was doing it by hand. But, needless to say, it was
definitely worth the work. So one of my biggest
purchases for my apartment was some kitchen appliances. I actually got the Smeg kettle
and the Smeg toaster and they are, by far, some
of my favorite appliances. They just make the kitchen
look beautiful and it just matches the '70s
vibe, so I had to do it. [ Laughs ] My favorite part
about my apartment is definitely the balcony. The open windows
really give the opportunity to bring a lot of light
and flow into the apartment and then, the outside
is just super magical. I really wanted to spend
a lot of time out here, so I put in a good amount
of money and time into just planning out
what I wanted to do out here. I made sure there was
a comfy spot for me, made sure Cash had
a little area to go when he is left home alone. I wanted to make sure I had
some cacti feel out here and just make sure that this was
an area that I could come out, relax, get some Sun,
do some work out here. Another project that I did
by myself when I first moved in was making sure all of these
magical lights got hung up. I did it by myself
and I almost fell over the balcony a few times,
but it was very much worth it. Cash and I spend a lot of time
out here at night, drinking tea, reading a book, and it's just a really
special time for us. Living alone is really fun, but, it also can be
a little lonely at times, so, getting a dog
has helped out a lot. He is a mini Sheepadoodle -- half Old English Sheepdog,
half poodle. He is one and a half years old and Cash and I go on a lot
of adventures together and have created
such a home together and I wouldn't change it
for the world. One of the most unique things
about me is that I am a triplet
and, out of the three, I would say, even growing up, I was kind of the more
out there, funky one, so, I can kind of
confidently say that that's where my interior
design comes from. In my next dream home,
my top priorities are definitely a big backyard
for Cash; definitely an open,
airy kitchen; and just a bigger living space
to have more people over. ♪♪ Another passion of mine, outside of interior design,
is fitness, so I wanted to make sure
that I had a space in my home that complemented
my active lifestyle, so I'm able to open up
my living room and I do a lot of HIT training
and yoga in here. On a typical Sunday morning, you can find Cash and I
just hanging out on the floor, doing yoga,
records on, candle on, maybe drinking a smoothie. And I think that's
my ultimate Sunday -- just hanging out with my dog,
exercising, and getting some bright light
from outside. The most sentimental
piece in my space is definitely my records. A lot of them are from my dad and I grew up listening
to old rock and driving in his Porsche
with him, so, just having those records
and playing them on Sundays will always be a very
special moment for me. So I got this hanging chair
from OfferUp. Originally, it was $600 new
off the website and I got it, just a little
bit used, for about $300. Originally,
it was done by a handyman. He had a hard time finding
the stud and, lucky for me, I grew up with a very hands-on
father that taught me a lot, so I actually
was instructing him multiple times
throughout the process. I tried covering up
the missed stud drills, but the chair looks great
and I don't really think a lot of people are looking
at the ceiling, so. [ Laughs ] So this little hallway leads
into my bedroom. I wanted to make this
really retro, really '70s. I have really fun prints,
some pillows that match, some really fun, like pinks
and yellows and reds in here. Again, wanted to add
a lot of plants in here as well because it does get
really good light. My bed is low platform,
so I wanted to make sure that I had
the right size nightstands, do the mix-match thing. One is a side table, the other is kind of more
of a standard nightstand. And then, I have some funky
mid-century lights. The dresser is something I get
questioned on all the time. Everyone thinks it's West Elm. I actually got it
from Living Spaces for, obviously,
a third of the price. I will have that for years. The quality of it
is absolutely incredible. Originally, the shelf was
from my last apartment and, when I moved in here, I did not know where
I was going to put it. I kind of awkwardly just
shoved it up there one day and was like, "I think
this is going to look good." Yeah, I love the way
it turned out and I think it's just
a really unique, fun placement for a shelf. So, funny story about this bed. I actually found it on Wayfair. I think it was around $600. I fell in love with it.
It was low platform, white, gold accents on the bottom. A few weeks later,
I look back on my order, the picture changed and they
were actually shipping me a bright orange bed. So I called Wayfair
immediately and I said, "Why am I getting
an orange bed?" Well, it turns out that Wayfair mixed up some images
on the back end and they thought I ordered
an orange bed, so I actually ended up
getting this bed, which they were listing
for $1,300, for $500, $600. That was also a steal
for this apartment. ♪♪ So this is my bathroom. I think it's an amazing size
for a one-bedroom. I did a few upgrades
in the bathroom. I added the shower curtain
with the rod. That covers up
these basic glass doors. Just really makes the bathroom
a little bit more fun, flows in with the more
funky theme of the rest of the apartment. And then, I also switched out
silver handles for the gold ones
that also match the kitchen. Decorating this department
has definitely been a creative outlet for me. I personally cannot draw
or paint or anything like that, so my apartment
really is my canvas. It's definitely
my passion at heart. I love the design aspect. I love that you're able
to kind of create whatever you're feeling inside,
whatever you're into, and just kind of put it
in your home. So that's kind of been my goal
for this apartment and I hope to do that
in my future apartments and homes as well. ♪♪ Thanks for checking out
