be gone i'm supposed to be on a plane going somewhere tonight but but god stopped me amen because there's something that i want that i want to talk about that the lord laid under my spirit and to every one of you that are watching from around the world god bless you and and welcome to our midweek service we just had a wonderful praise period in this church and everybody everybody needs a praise break after all you've been through today you need a praise break after all you're dealing with in your home you need a praise break everything that's going on in your mind and your body you need a praise break amen i want to talk to you all tonight and i have my my cohorts here i've got my elder uh rebecca west pastor rebecca west she's with us tonight and we've got our youngster bret minister brett williams tonight minister brett williams [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and um i want to talk and this really just happened about uh an hour ago maybe about an hour ago maybe a little less we was just standing over in the corner and i was trying to get out of here and i was talking some of the saints and the lord just started putting something on my spirit in my heart and before i knew it i said i got to stay i gotta stay and and and um before we go any further i want to um i want to celebrate the life of a woman that was very very special to me and special to many of us in the body of christ i had the privilege of knowing her very personally and i want to honor the memory of mother gertrude's tax [Applause] [Music] mother gertrude stacks um she is gone on to heaven and um we are taken back by it but um you know god does all things well and we we sit back and we trust the the sovereignty of god and that woman made an impact on the body of christ and so we thank god for the ministry the memory of mother gertrude stacks we're playing praying for shalom temple we're praying for the ministry as uh she was the senior pastor we're praying for the stax family the bennett family for the winans family um she was pastor tammy bennett's stepmother uh she was married to bishop jesse t stacks she was an adjutant to mother stella boyd and and literally she was a wonderful woman so we praise god for the memory and i want you to all celebrate the life of mother gertrude stacks [Applause] amen she was one of the elders in the in the body of christ and we're going to talk about the elders and the youth in the church today as we were standing in the corner talking we were talking about uh i i jumped on dede and i was telling you that she got the devil and praise the lord and she got a cat on on his hoodie i said that's the devil praise the lord and we were talking about how you know the elders out i don't want i don't want them to let me preach at 80 years old because i'm going to be rambling praise god so just you know just put a put my jacket on my shoulders and say all right now dad mclaren come on sit down but there is uh there is a breach in the generations and we have to deal with this right now because it's really been laid on my heart there's a breach in the generations and the ministry is not really passed down a lot of young people are doing in the ministry they're doing in the church but they're not really strong in their ministry they're active and functioning in the church but the ministry aspect and the spirituality that goes along with it i think that we failed in many ways to pass this on the bible says and i want to go through the key scripture for today is psalm 34 verse 11 psalm 34 verse 11. psalm 34 david simply said this come ye children hearken unto me and i will teach you the fear of the lord powerful come ye children sit at my feet hearken to me open your ears and your heart to me as an elder as a senior as one who has a relationship with god one who has experiences one who can teach you how god works who can show you not just his works but show you his heart one who can help and help help you redefine who you are to help you understand and embrace who you are come ye children hearken unto me and i will teach you the reverence the fear of the lord there's got to be a teaching the elders have got to teach we praise god for elder audrey dyer we're praying for her yet in the name of jesus christ and the ned family praying for the dire and the ned family we thank god for you dear woman there's got to be a teaching that is passed down as was with us i was in pastor west's office a little uh late early on i think monday and we were looking at a cup that she had with her mother and father and her mother and her father and aunt on it and we were talking about how you know we were raised up in holiness and it was instituted in us it was inculcated in us we were taught and and our joy was going to church our joy was getting getting your schoolwork done getting your housework done and going to church going to choir rehearsal going to prayer going to saturday youth services going to sunday service singing in the choir working on the usher board junior usher board you know that was our thing we were groomed and and reared in church and so we reaped a lot of benefits tyler we reaped a whole lot of benefits from it because we were involved with the seniors and they taught us about god it wasn't just pastor caesar it wasn't just the pastor but the older saints taught us about god amen the older saints included us in prayer the older saints had us tarrying for the holy ghost anybody remember the older saints came and told you now keep on coming back next week you didn't get it yet but you come on back next week that's right that's right and there was there was a synergy there was a synergy there was a pull there was a connectivity there wasn't a there wasn't a disconnect between the old and the young the old understood their assignment and the young accepted it the young heard the council the young herd the wisdom the young received the impartations the young sat back and they received the revelation the young learned how to worship god the young they didn't force us to go to church well some of us some of you always just the devil they didn't force us to go to church we went and we enjoyed going and being there and we learned so much this is what's lacking i believe we've become dutiful but the relationship and the worship is the missing element amen amen in this church our uh uh in this church our demographics are the largest uh uh the largest portion of this church is 45 and up that's the largest demographics of this church 45 years old and up and so you know you get a little a little uh weak when you get a little you know up there in eighth now i still got my dance now don't get me wrong i still got my dance i still got my i i'm still shot up in that spirit world praise god but sometimes when i come in i look and i purview the audience the congregation and as i as i look over the audience it's like oh man so many people have lost their joy or forgotten the zeal that they once had are limited because they believe themselves to be old but in christ there's no male nor female and there's no old and young [Applause] and when we were growing up you had to sit us down that's right because we were so involved with god we were so on fire diego fuego help me out here viego what's the piece of me i hope i didn't curse amen fuego we were full of fire we had to fire the holy ghost they would have to sit us down yes and when they set us down we were still praising god and speaking in tongues because that was the zeal now we've got to teach this all over again and so i've got my my my my my team up here my posse my squad we up here a year reappear no no okay yeah well and and i want to talk to us very briefly we're not going to be here long tonight we're going to talk very briefly and we're going to deal with involving the generations generational worship everybody say generational worship generational worship god has always involved the old and young together yes he said in the book of joel the second chapter of joel about the 28th verse it says and it shall come to pass afterwards and it shall come to pass when it shall come to pass afterward that i will pour out my spirit upon come on help me out i'm talking about y'all getting on fire come on y'all got to be with me and i will pour my spirit out on all flesh your sons and your daughters your sons and your daughters shall prophesy shall forth tells you'll foretell shall preach shall prognosticate by the holy ghost your old men see he's including the generation is generational worship your old men shall dream dreams and your young men shall see vision go ahead next one go to the next one your old men shall dream dreams and your young men shall see visions go to verse 29 he said even upon your your your manservants and your handmaidens even upon the servants i will pour out my spirit it will be something that will go from generation and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days afterwards in those days i will pour out my spirit it is supposed to be something that's generationally perpetuated it is supposed to be something that we do together as one unified body there's no old church and there's no young church there's just the church yes yes yes there's just the church and then peter brings this thing into fulfillment after at the end of the day of pentecost peter brings this thing into fulfillment after the holy ghost has fallen and spilled over into the marketplace in the books of a book of acts the second chapter peter bring he brings this to bear he says this is that what the prophet joel spoke about this is that which this prophet joel spoke about this is that amen that he will pour out his spirit upon all flesh all flesh he said this is what prophet joel spoke about that in the last days we in the old testament it was afterwards peter makes it plain it's the last days that in the last days he shall pour that's the wrong scripture bobby in the last day he shall pour out his spirit upon all flesh go to the scripture above that bobby he shall pour out his spirit upon all flesh joel no we're in acts 2 and what 17 2-17 glory to god he shall pour out his spirit upon all flesh in the last days these are the last days yes and what we need is the combined effort and worship and ministry of the old and the young amen how many teenagers do we have in this room raise your hand teenagers your hand teenagers only one teenage how many 20 year olds do we have in this room 20 in your 20s raise your hand in your 20s and now now mother rose don't go to hell over this you ain't seen 20 in 50 some odd years glory to god thank the lord for jesus you can wish a woman can wish can't you how many how many in their 30s raise your hand in your 30s anybody in your 30s nobody in your 30s in the room how many in your 40s raise your hand raise your hand in your 40s one is in the 40s only one this is my point how many in your 50s raise your hand raise it up raise it up come on okay i want you to obey what i'm saying raise your hand up if you're in your 50s how many of you are in your 60s i wish we had a camera out on all the audience how many in your 70s how many 80s amen so like i told you the demographics of this church is 45 and up that's the largest demographics of the church and the and the youngers are are part of but they're not really connected not to the degree of of us in our youth i do not i do not downplay the worship and the and the love of god that the young people have but there's a fire there's a fire and a travail yes there is a seek in the spirit that is lacking and missing there's a there's there's a hunger and a thirst that is lacking the sons and daughters are supposed to be the preachers the sons and the daughters are supposed to be the prophets the sons and the daughters are supposed to be the the strength of the ministry the sons and the daughters are supposed to be going before god in travail weeping before god on behalf of the condition of the world crying out to god for his help and his assistance the the younger demographics of the church are supposed to be strong in evangelism they're supposed to be turning people's heads and giving the word of god to their peers and the contemporaries the younger generation is supposed to be have a zeal for god that will cause people to want to know god and see that he's not just the god of the old yes yes yes yes yes [Applause] your young men shall see visions your old men shall see dreams but if the youth haven't caught the vision then this church is only functioning by the dreams of the old if the youth haven't come aboard and caught the vision so that they in their strength can run with it then the church is floundering and sinking holding on to a dream of days gone by yeah and this has got to be changed i don't hear anybody here this has got to be changed the power the strength of the young people is lacking and missing and it needs to be activated ignited it needs to be set ablaze it needs to be something that turns the table in this church and turns us into the direction of our destiny [Applause] pastor west i think that one of the things that um as pastor was talking and i remember you know as a young people a person growing up of course my household was our first sanctuary that's where we had prayer in our household every morning not just on sundays every morning at six a.m we all had to get up and kneel we couldn't sit we had to kneel because my father led us in prayer every single day and we had to know a scripture verse we had to learn the scripture verse so that we can live by that's what he was said now i have my sister who just passed away every 6 a.m prayer she would always repeat jesus wept and daddy would say okay now you got to learn another scripture verse and then you gotta find out why he read why did he whip you know so we were in the mode of we had to learn and study scripture and when we got to church it was just second nature for us to be and we were impressed by the spirit of the older and the and what they had and the commitment they had we wanted to be like them we didn't want to be deacons we didn't want to be leaders we wanted to be prayer warriors like they were because they were examples we used to have church by accident than we trying to have on purpose now because in the spirit that of things we all grab there was a commitment to what we saw they led by example and they did have patience with us they knew we were crazy at certain points but they stayed with us they stuck with us and told us baby you can make it i remember we had a revival and all of the young people were getting filled with the holy ghost it was going crazy and dede was a little upset because everybody got filled all of her friends got thrilled she had to tell you the story and she didn't get filled but she was disappointed because she didn't get filled so when she came home i had to sit her down she wanted to know what mommy why didn't i get filled i said you got to read the scripture the bible says if you ask for anything with your heart you can be filled with the holy spirit and we talked for a little while and we prayed before she went to sleep that night she got filled with the holy spirit yes she was what 17 years old yes so so these are the things that we grab onto you get to the spirit of the thing not just like pastors that being dutiful and you had to go to church we didn't have a choice we didn't stay home you got sick you passed my father would pray for us and you're going to be better by the time you get to church and be your own when there was no stink and we didn't have pencils and paper that we can write games we didn't have uh you know these texts and all kinds of stuff that we can play while church was going on we were involved in church they were pew babies yeah when i was in church they were in baby they were in church right next to me praying like everybody else and they can fall asleep if they want to but they were in church because the spirit was there and that's what we wanted them to have it's a culture marlene can adjusted the same thing my mother put us all in the station where i can drive us out to harlem yeah we go to uh to holy uh to mount sinai holy church of america sit back on that back row while my mother was in the choir and we sat there like a bunch of chicks in a row and you better not move because if she looked at you from the pulpits of the question you knew you was going to get toe up when you got home but it wasn't a question it was our culture it is our culture i believe we had that kind of talk last time we had the three of us together it was our culture and as i look out into the congregation now and i look at tyler and i look at at my boys luke and devonte and joseph and i look at all the young people that are out here it is amazing that they're here but i want them to be more than just here i have for me i want i want them to be more than just here i want them to be on fire yes on fire yes yes yes i want to see them travailing weeping in the power of god i want to see them overwhelmed and overcome yes with the anointing of the lord i want the anointing to be so heavy that they can't stand because of the weight of the anointing amen that's what i'm looking for i want them to experience what i experienced at a young age bret i think pastor wes you said something that was so uh so relevant is that when you were younger you had an admiration for what it is that you saw and i think that in this generation our focus has become so shifted to so many other things that we are not concentrated or or or seeing the benefit of what it is to really be active in ministry um we're not taking the proper attention that we should to those who are instructions instructors proverbs 4 1 says hear ye children the instruction of a father and a 10 to no understanding we have to be willing to be taught we have to be thirsty for knowledge the bible says that my people perish because of their lack of knowledge come on here y'all so so so so with that being said there has to be a yearning there has to be an example and a yearning i think that those are the only two elements that are necessary for forward growth and for the transition between the younger generation taking over ministry and the the older ones taking their their rest or taking the more instructive posture is that we have to have that yearning we have to want what god wants for us because some of us know that god has really called us some of us really know that god has anointed us and gifted us to do the works for ministry but we stifle ourselves we stifle ourselves because of our own opinions of ourselves we stifle ourselves because it may not be the popular thing to do but you go and read the story of jonah i know it's very popular we read it as kids you know when god calls you to do something and you don't take it seriously you cause trouble not only for you but everybody in your life that you come in contact with because you're out of line we have to want to be in line we have to want to be in line we have to want to glean from those that have gone before us who know the way you have to want to be saved amen if you if you have said that you've given your life to jesus christ you want to follow that and it's going to cost you even as young people but it's beneficial because what we would do as we were having church we would get everybody together all about the people that were our age group we would pull everybody in when we had revivals the youth christ was there and we pulled everybody and when we had that holy ghost revival going on we were pulling everybody and we would get filled and we would pull our friends in until they would get filled and every night tomorrow was getting filled with the holy ghost and we were 15 and 16 years old not thinking about what time we gonna get out of here to go home we stayed like pastor was saying they were in the cars carrying them out speaking in tongues because they wanted to be saved and they wanted the holy ghost so they can stay saved but you got to want that you don't just want religion you just don't want to be a church member you just don't want to be active on your department you want to be filled with the holy ghost that will keep you yes ma'am [Applause] like the the the hoodie i have on now it says feel your feelings and we want to get into our feelings you know uh psychologically right but but there's there's another set of feelings yes spiritual yes there are spiritual feelings sensations spiritual revelations spiritual awakenings spiritual dynamic that comes along with this relationship that we've got to get into we've got to feel the feelings spiritually just as well we have got to understand that this is a call of god to the generations yes to the generations god wants to use the generations i was telling them last night in our kingdom call meeting and i was telling them you know i want you all to catch a hold of this because the majority the majority of them in there were in their 20s you know and two of them were in their teens but the majority of them were in their 20s and i'm saying i want you to catch what we're doing i want you to own what we're doing because in 10 years i'm not going to be able to facilitate this in 10 years when i'm 71 it's going to be for you all to take this further this kingdom call if god allows it to continue on that long it's going to have to be underneath you all's jurisdiction and 10 years from now you'll still just be in your 20s and you're in your 30s those that are in the teens and the 20s now yeah you know and it's the realization that we're not going to always be here god delay is coming we're not going to always be here and the zeal has got to be passed on it has to there has to be a joshua to the moses there has to be a younger joshua for the aged moses the age moses has a relationship with god that parks waters yes yes the aged moses can hold up a brazen serpent and the people be healed the aged moses can speak to a rock and water come out of it the age moses can pray and manifest from heaven the age moses can lead them on a journey through the wilderness but it is the joshua that has to be the student of moses to see god work joshua's got to see the pillar of fire by the night in the pillow cloud by day joshua's got to see the manifestations joshua's got to see what happens when moses speaks and says let my people go and the water turns to blood and the lice come and the frogs come joshua's got to be a recipient he's got to see the death angel pass over he's got to be a student an intern an apprentice and under that same anointing [Music] because the day is coming whether 40 days in obedience or 40 years in disobedience the day is coming when moses is going to go up into the mountain and never come back down again [Music] mo balto ocean moses is going to go up into the mountain and never come back down again what will happen if joshua is not in place yes what will happen if joshua's not walking closely with moses to receive the impartation i don't hear anybody yes what will happen if there's a generational gap they can't afford to be we can't afford to have a generational gap because this must be passed down it can't be a new happening with a new generation it is the same spirit hello yes same spirit and and if joshua is not in place with the same anointing that moses has different strength but same anointing then he can't he can't bring down jericho then he can't conquer i don't hear anybody that's right then he can't hold up his hand and cause the earth to stop spinning while he's gonna battle that's it yes he has to be under a tutor that can teach him these things am i making sense yes yes if there's no if there's no elijah elisha has no purpose but there's got to be an elijah for the elisha yeah yeah and that elijah's got to follow that elijah and that elisha's got to see in that elijah not an aged man but someone who's going to pass this down to me and the relationship with god is going to be intact and the power of god is going to flow through me and it's not going to die with elijah right right are y'all young people hearing me are y'all young people hearing me just like pastor it didn't when moses the bible says but moses is dead the servant he's gone he saw he was able to see the promise he didn't go in because of disobedience but joshua had to take up the mantle at that point and that's how he was able to get the people to go and possess the land because joshua was watching right because when moses had to go and as he told the god i need somebody to come in and fill in who am i going to send and he saw joshua's heart joshua loved the people he followed moses when the people were talking about moses he followed moses because he know moses was talking to god joshua had that same mindset i really want to have what moses had but in his generation he was the one again who prayed and asked god listen we're fighting and i just need a few more hours can you hold that son up for just a minute until we win this war and the bible says this is the first time that god has listened to a man and asked and answered a man's prayer because joshua had that relationship personally but he learned from his senior yeah and and and god told joshua after waiting over 40 days yes moses my servant is dead but as i was with moses that's it yes sir that's it that's it as i was with moses i will be with you joshua but there had to be an example yes yes hallelujah yes hallelujah that's good pastor there had to be some example and there had to be a father figure in this gospel to pass it down to a son as i was with moses brett so shall i be with you tyler i will be with you with that same power with that same anointing i will use you as a father i will turn a son into a father yes yes yes you know and and that's what we need we need the young ladies and the young men to see the anointing and say i want that i want that not i got my own thing well i got my own relationship with god i appreciate that and everyone needs to have their own relationship with god but there is a succession yes there is a succession hallelujah that there is hallelujah that's that's one thing that and i hope that that's the desire of this generation that that's watching ministry as it goes forth because we watch you every week we watch and and as a young man i mean years back right maybe 12 years old i'm watching and i'm like i want to know god that way i want to know why you're so excited about him i want to know why you praise him the way you do i want that zeal i want to know what what have you seen that i haven't seen yet that's something that i've always wanted and so that that peak my curiosity and i hope that this generation grabs a hold of that is that you know that that there's someone here that has seen god move and and shake things in their life and i want to see that same supernatural power move through my life so we have to keep our eye locked on the generation that's before us because the bible talks about how when when that knowledge of what god has done doesn't get passed down there will arise a generation that doesn't know god that doesn't know god because it wasn't passed down to them so we have to keep our eyes locked we have to watch and and and pay close attentiveness to what it is god is doing even through those who are seasoned so that way some of that seasoning can rub off on this chicken i know i'm talking about food but some of that seasoning can rub off over here and we can carry that same flavor and that same one i'm sorry that same flavor of anointing amen don't perpetuate the stigma don't don't stop it you gotta learn how to eat before you come no but often though you're the consecration all large people aren't thinking about food all the time no i'm not listen listen but what but but honestly there is a need there is a need for the generations to have a longing if you read in the bible the majority of the people that he utilized with the exception of abraham and and sarah were younger people yes for younger people and that is so key jesus was a young person he started his ministry at 30. he ended his ministry on earth at 33. he was a young man and we need that kind of revelation to be to become awakened in us we need to become aware that this is a this is a conjoined effort from the old and the young yes i never despised my elders i never despised my elders mother ella be mother williams i never despise my elders on bcs or bishops i never despised my elders i looked at them and i understood that there's something in them that i needed yes yes there's something in them that i needed bishop frank otherwise there's something in them that i needed and so i made it my business to sit and glean from them yes to glean and that is the value when the young can see the value and desire it that's when the transfer happens that's when it takes place amen amen that's when the anointing that samuel has is passed down to the david yes yes the pre-teen that stands under the horn of anointing yes and that oil from the aged prophet the seal breaks and that anointing flows from the hand of the old prophet and the horn yes on top of the young pre-teen david to anoint him the next bastion of hope the next hero and champion of israel the next king hallelujah amen this is what's necessary we need as a matter of fact as i'm closing right now i'm going to close another 20 minutes 15 20 minutes we need that zeal passed on to the young we need the 30s and the 40s and 20s crying out we need the teens lamenting before god we need holiness to be the the right and the past down heritage we need holiness to be the past down heritage to our children and our children's children i was talking to elder fisher and elder zanetta and and pastor moore and i was saying to them and dede and i was saying to them we never knew that we would be there we're the old we're the elders now we're we're old now but el deficient said no we're mature no we is old people this grave says i'm old these creaking bones say i'm old glory to god these dimming eyes say that i'm old now i'm still pretty but i'm old you know we're we're the we used to look up to the elders and you know but now we're being looked up to as elders we are the old folk in the church amen amen we are the 60s and the 70s and we're we're sitting back with all of this and we need to teach our young ones we need to have a time where we pray together and let the holy spirit overwhelm them but there's nothing better i was crying on the altar july 14 1969 was on the altar crying out like dede i was mad because marlene and them were filled and saved and speaking and telling and i'm saying no why can't i get the holy ghost and on that two weeks later i'm on the altar crying now god please give me the holy ghost please give me the holy ghost i'm nine years old god please give me the ammonite gospel tabernacle pastor william walker please give me the holy ghost and i was so sad and i would say and then uh mother uh taylor mom taylor so you got it with joy with joy you gotta ask them a joy the joy and i said crap in my hands and you know the old mothers would stand over you then yeah call jesus call jesus call jesus but all i heard was mother tell and say joy nope no other mothers were there mother whitehead was carrying with me the weeks before but when i got in that corner and cried out to god and they said this they said if ye being evil now to give good gifts to your children hallelujah yes how much more will your heavenly father will your heavenly father give the holy ghost to all those who ask for it yes and when that that scripture came across my nine year old mind god give me the holy ghost and before i know my bottom jaws i really need to do and then the holy spirit spirit filled me and the tongues came hallelujah and from that time on the passion of god grew in me it grew i'm 61 this happened at nine and my first encounter was at a shut-in at seven we've got to get back to the point where we teach the young people where we don't mind them being in our presence and we don't judge them but we train them yes we we want them to understand that there's liberties in christ but there's also requirements amen and and that's what's necessary i don't want them to live off of their gift i want them to live off of this wonderful wonderful experience called holiness yes yes that's what i'm looking for so what i'm going to do now as we come to a close i i want all of the teens and 20s and 30s to come up on stage right now quickly quickly quickly quickly come on amen all the way up to 40. come on up come on up come on up come on come on come on and and and brett i want you to go get a wipe and wipe that microphone down and just come stand behind this children come stand behind us and i want you if you have a question i want you if you have a question i don't know bobby if you can see any questions on the screen if they ask them but if you have a question i want you to get up and we're going to bring a microphone down to you and we're going to uh we're going to facilitate your questions and then we're going to pray for these these young people are going to represent the generations they are symbolically they are symbolically standing here to represent the generations i'm doing all of this spontaneously by the unction of the holy spirit none of this was planned and i had no thought of doing this until the holy spirit spoke it yes but they are standing here and they are kara yes they are standing here as the symbol of generations hallelujah amen for this generational worship must be passed down who has a question raise your hand if you have a question and we'll run the microphone over to you if you have a question amen are there any come come on don't be afraid to ask your question the lord everyone praise the lord mother janus pastor is the question to be directed to the pastoral staff or to the young people you can direct it to us or whomever okay so for one of the young people i wonder if you could answer for us what do you think we need to do as a body to get more of your friends more people your age involved what do we need to have happen here okay tyler i don't i can't point it to one exact thing but i think being open to to listening to the youth and seeing where they are in their lives because i do believe that there is a gap that like he said wasn't transferred down so knowing that there's a gap it's not expecting the youth to have it all together so where pastor kinsey and pastor west could say that they were at church and tearing and stuff like that our generation wasn't so we have to find a way to get the generation here to understand okay you might not have had what we had but it doesn't discount you it just means that we need to meet you where you are and work forward so it's just to me it's a patience game and and not expecting things to be perfect right away because i mean nobody's perfect but we're all working trying to get to be perfecting faith you know i mean [Applause] any other question our leadership when we were growing up we didn't have they we didn't have the same kind of obstacles that they had today um we didn't have the computers we didn't have the cell phones we had other types of options of obstacles rather and my question is what are we what can we do as a ministry to to counter or to to contend with or to counter or to overcome those obstacles that a lot of young people have today that's actually trying to pull them away from the church well go ahead literally it's not that complicated it's not that complicated because the obstacles that they have are in place because we haven't filled that void we haven't filled the void and shown love and shown patience and pulled them in and sat down and treated them like they were valuable and essential parts of the church we had we failed to realize that we are we are called by god to occupy a space in their life and to train them up in the way that they should go train up a child we have a job train up your child rehab the responsibility train up a child in the way that he should go that simply means that we have got to be on the ball to train the children it's not because the children don't want to listen the children are trained to listen their parents teach them how to listen at home to adults but the bottom line is we've got to look and stop stop um discounting them and despising them because of their youth we have the job you train elders train up the child in the way that they should go and when they become older they won't depart from those ways right right when they become older they won't depart from those words jelisa come up here thank you they won't depart from those ways julissa come up here praise god they won't depart if we get on our job and train [Applause] because um uh minister monk we as young people we did have distractions they may not be to the extent that they are now but the elders embraced us and they were so in tune with god that they knew to come to us and say hey listen you're going a little bit to the left but they didn't demand it they lived it and they and they would they would bring us under their skirt tails they would bring us to the the elders and the deacons they would bring us in and cover us and help us to get to the place that we needed to be at amen it would help us so so when we get on our job and see them in their true worth when i can look at luke and joseph and and devonte and i can look at josiah and i can look at all of the young people and the kids when i can look at them and see their worth and take time and talk with them and love on them and even lay hands and pray for them that is that's our job to train them up to teach them to teach them yes tyler was four years old when he came here four years old but uh you about 10 11 so it's about understanding who we have and the responsibility that we have to invest in the young and to give them the authority to move forward one sooner that you got to release them from being kids yeah and you've got to entrust them with mature adult responsibilities and they have got to understand it's not just the doing and the busyness but it's the spiritual responsibility to live a holy life and to be imparted with this wonderful anointing that will equip you for your ministry every one of these young people have a ministry and we we we were pushing the duty and not the real ministry we've got to go past the duty and get into the ministry the real purpose of spirituality that goes along with this got to be filled to the brim with the holy ghost yes hallelujah they got to be baptized jesus name they got to be baptized these are the scriptures and these are the things that we lack in this generation we have downplayed the tenants of our faith and we've got to get back to it and pass it on to them because they got to give it to their children and the children's children any other question yes quickly yes god bless god bless um what i'm hearing is a lot of this have started from the home i look up here and i notice the foundation was first formed in the home for most of everyone that was here who was saved as children now this is both for ministry and the young ones what do we do as the elders to reach those who have not had that foundation in the home because those are the ones that's out there that's looking for something so i just want to know what is your suggestion for us to do to reach those because even in the bible when jesus spoke even when he spoke to the samaritan woman what he did was he was relatable it was at the well they had nothing in common but he spoke about the water in the well yeah even when he even uh to the men who was fishing he related with i'll make you fishers of men so he made it relatable and that's how they was able to he would catch their attention so what do we as the elders or even yourself what can we do what do you think we can do to reach those who don't have that foundation in a home but are still looking for something i'm gonna start and i'm gonna pass it over to them i'm gonna start you wanna do a it it's just that we had just because i was raised in a christian household we we had people that we had encountered young people that came to the church that did not have it but because of how we learn from the elders we embrace them to inspire them to want to know jesus as their personal savior you know and so we like kind of lock horns with them locked arms with them i should say to kind of encourage them because some of them you know they just didn't have it like you're saying and their environment at home was not christian at all but when they came around us and our connections we had a connection with the with the elders there was a connection that was just it was just there for some odd reason yeah this is yes yeah they you know yeah and and and then that's exactly what i was going to say it is for the generation to reach their generation and then bring them so that we can teach them their generation must reach them our generation must teach them so we are the teachers they are the reachers they've got friends that don't know this they've got friends that weren't raised up in holiness they've got friends that they're connected with like tyler tyler would go to school and bring back a friend steve bring steve back and we'd sit back in my office and talk but he reached them and then we come back in the office and we sit down and talk from that point it is a it's a group effort but if they're not involved if they're not involved then then it's a short reach it's a very shortened reach because i can go out there all day long and give me this cap and totally be out of out of out of reach they can't they can't relate to me hey cat what you know hey there you groovy chicks how are you doing everything copacetic yeah it's a groovy scene no exactly exactly you know but so they have to reach their generation then they can bring them in so we can teach their generation here jalisa address that [Applause] um um i think for me i'm in my 30s so with my generation my friends are looking for authenticity so um the thing is i grew up in church my friends watch that they watch when we go out they might grab a bottle of liquor but is jalisa doing that and it's like no i think a lot of my friends they noticed that i wasn't just saying i was a christian because now today you have a lot of people just staying there christian but when they sit with me i don't curse i'm not smoking i'm living the life like i'm supposed to live and i think that's important and that's how you draw because a lot of people are calling themselves christian but the lifestyle is not matching up so it's authenticity for my age group is one of the main ways that you're able to draw them in can i pick you back on that pastor real quick and that's exactly what it is that there has to be and i know we talked about representation but there has to be a remnant that there has to be a remnant of of young adults that no god which camera i'm looking into this camera hey y'all there has to be a remnant of young adults that know god and that there's an evident difference like jaleesa was saying you know god places us in so many different circles whether at school whether at work and and for those that like jaleesa were saying profess to be christian people watch that and they're looking to see who you are there's enough fakeness in the world already with people saying that they're one thing for training to be one thing on instagram portraying to be one thing on facebook people are literally having their eye on every single thing that you do and so as as young christians we have to be that true representation and like pastor was saying you know we're the ones that's called to reach our age group if if there's no representation if there's no boldness in this generation to reach our generation you know they they go they go unreached so that was a very good point very good and uh i i also agree with jaleesa when she was saying that our generation we have our phones and stuff like that so where he's as your generation you might have heard from a few pastors and stuff like that we have access to everything anything we want to know we have access to so if we come and hear something and we want to do our own research and we see that maybe the older generation isn't exactly living a certain way or doing exactly what they're saying the easiest way is just you know what forget what they're saying and i'ma do what i want to do so it's like because we have access it's it's a little bit it's like more careful you have to be with what's being said how is being said because they're paying it the generation is paying attention very close and it's like if you're not on your what would you say oh you're not i don't want to say on your toes yeah if you're not on your game it's it's very easy to say this is this life's not easy in the first place so let me find something that doesn't require me to think too much or do anything like that [Applause] i do agree with them as well i just feel as if to bring our generation in we we feel judged and that the church is very judgmental so we come in here we have to come in as one person and not ourselves and i don't feel that's right because a lot of the older generation they're not you know really living the christian life so for us to be judged it's just like why are we coming you know you understand so we want to we want to be free you want to be open not just to do anything but to be corrected the right way without being a hypocrite it's very good yes it's relevant [Applause] um i just feel like when we are we okay we don't want to be told what to feel or what to want we want to be axed instead of like obligated we want we don't want to feel forced because that's pressure so it should be like come off as gentle or not stern in a way and see and see these opinions of the young people need to be heard so yes they need to be heard you know and they need to be considered even if they're not exactly right but their opinion means something yes now the young people need to understand there's going to be discipline there's going to be people that tell you right from wrong everybody's not going to be as nice and as gentle but you know i remember a lot of people that were very ungentle when i was growing up that i appreciate now that i'm growing [Applause] i will always remember an usher by the name of vestine bryant and you'd be sitting there in the back chewing gum and she danced all the way over to you still dancing but you better put that gun in you better put that cup in there if you got up to go to bed and sit down sit down you you should have gone through the bad merlin sit down and there was a level of discipline oh boy you guys would have been and our usher was ike oh yeah he was the castapo all by himself if you got up and looked like you were walking to the door and your mother and father didn't know where you were going he would stop you where you going why no service is going on go sit down period yeah period and and so to the younger people um yes there is a level of of harshness that we got to make sure we mitigate and bring down because we got to treat you like you're our kids we got to treat you like you're our own children yeah and we got to love you enough to tell you the truth and love you enough to discipline you and you got to love us enough to respect us and receive it yes you got it [Applause] i have a question and yes so i think your question was this is getting good and our time is on what's up come on was to get people in and i understand where you guys are coming from where you had that discipline but i feel like when people are drawn in if somebody's told like spit out your gum or it's discipline right away it's like an immediate like so it's like get them in and and hear where they're coming from first yes yes so it's like yes i'm with you so it's like if i come to church my generation is like if i can't come with what i'm normally used to wearing and i gotta buy a suit or feel like this and they don't even ask me how i feel and your concern is do i have a suit on it's like i'm not coming well you know evidently that is not the case here and this is what i'm ever done you can come as you are exactly so listen to me i'm in shorts yeah a hoodie yeah and we're talking yes most people would think if i don't have a suit on well daddy never been here in this church with you not with you not with me because i'm like okay with you all young people that's never been a thing with you all young people it's not but that's the perception perception is easily dismissed simply by interaction they could do that with us with the gum and all that stuff because we were born in the church but when we're talking about people that come in strangers that come in that you may bring in i'm not going to look at steve and say listen you're going out here and you'll get you a suit don't you come back in there you know there are certain ways that we treat those that are born in the church yes that are children of the church and those and then those that you bring in there you know he that wins the soul is wise it's wise but the one thing that i that i want you all to to understand as we close we're going to close now one thing that i want you to understand is these kind of dialogues are necessary they just happened at the end of this night but they should have been at the beginning of the night with the different generations because i i would love to hear from you all too and and just to hear what you all think not to judge and say you know what you're talking about asking you i ain't asking you for nothing child you ain't i'm old enough to be your grandfather but i'm asking you nothing you do what i tell you that's for home that's for mama and daddy but here in the sanctuary we've got to learn how to hear we got to learn how to be stern enough to love you into correction but we also got to be soft enough to hear you and so that we can hear what you're thinking so that we can take into consideration and correct what you're thinking or adhere to what you're saying so that's why i'm glad that you spoke tonight i'm glad you spoke tonight because it is important that we as the fathers and mothers in this gospel here and that we pay attention that we become alive that we become a part of the process of changing to every one of you that are watching tonight we're going to pray we are going to pray and in this prayer this is not the last of the discussions that we're going to have this is not the last of them we are going to continue to groom to grow the generations in this church it's only a matter of time before luke and devante and josiah and them are standing up here just as well you've seen hazel you've seen of kiara you've seen some of our young people here young camden this has got to be something that's perpetual the church of god in christ taught me that he called the young because they're strong and he called the old because they know the way as we close tonight i want us to make sure that we pay attention that even as teachers we can be taught yes i don't hear the olders the elbows amen even as teachers we can be taught even as elders we can hear the voice of the young yes yes and we can take into consideration what they're thinking what they're feeling because the only way that we can help raise them and rear them and and guide them is by hearing what they think i want them to cry out to god i want them to cry out in passion toward god i want them from their pre-teens to the 40s to cry out with a passion toward god that will cause them to see god in a greater way interact with god in a great with a greater passion i want them to get to know god in a more devoted way yes this is the call for today for they can reach whom we have out uh how we've aged out to reach they can reach those who we've aged that reaching and so i want us to continue to pray for them to love them to teach them to infuse them with the word of god to to bring them to the point of of power in god that will bring on deliverance for them that will cause them to be the very key to many of their peers finding jesus christ i don't hear anybody here and to you elders as we close you all a little too low maybe they would have more zeal oh now now that i'm focusing on you mm-hmm quiet yeah maybe they would have more zeal if the zeal came from you maybe if you really came in with the praise of god in your mouth and not just come in the house with it but be in your house with it maybe if you was really really powerful at home and maybe if you gave them something to remember like hearing you praying in the holy ghost like remembering that you laid hands on them that you gave them scriptures to memorize that you prayed for them before they went to school that you laid hands on them as they slept at night hallelujah i can remember several times my mother coming in the room and laying their hands on my head i can remember several times hearing my mother praying in the holy ghost through the wall hallelujah yes yes i remember a hundred thousand times my grandmother shaking us up in the spirit creel and aquila those memories were a part of my maturation so as we close right now i want you to point your hands toward these the symbols of the generation stand to your feet stand on the circumference of this stage you elders stand on the circumference of this platform you elders and hallelujah and point your hands toward these yes the symbol of the generations [Music] those of you that are watching point your hands toward these and if you have any of these in your home point your hands towards your own children for there is an army rising up there is a generation that will wax strong and do exploits there are generations that will whack strong and do exploits there are those who have been god they've gone through some heinous things by their own demise by their own decisions and god's going to heal them of that hallelujah they're those that have made the wrong choices that are these ages that are symbolized by what's behind me right now they have made wrong choices and we've seen them struggle and suffer but we will see them succeed in christ and they will call on jesus and they will be examples of deliverance and they will deliver their peers they will reach those that knew them in their sin and they will show them jesus christ in their salvation hallelujah no matter how bad your child has fallen no matter what they've fallen into you must believe that this is the time for the generations this is the time where god will free the generations from bondage this is the time where god will loose them from the bands of wickedness this is the time where their past sins will not hold them back from their future success in god hallelujah i ask all those saved behind me the symbols of the generation to pray for your generations as we pray for you you that stand behind me pray for your generation as we pray for you to those who have been incarcerated to those who have a history to those who have a record to those who have fallen to those who have been so hurt and so bruised to you that are struggling i pronounce life over you now i pronounce freedom over you now i pronounce the joy of the lord i command it to be your strength in the matches name of jesus christ you are free and your generation will be saved and your life is precious to god i want the elders to pray for these as they pray for their peers and as we pray for those watching in the name of jesus christ by the power of grace by the power of the grace of god we speak new life new life new life in the name of jesus as our mothers and fathers have gone into heaven and left the banner in our hands as our praying father as our praying mothers as our praying grandmothers our sanctified grandfathers have gone into heaven now the baton has been passed to us we remember the prayers we remember the love and we take on the mantle now we become the joshua's to the moses we become the elisha to the elijah in the mighty name of jesus christ i can still hear the prayer of my grandmother i can still remember the hand of my mother hallelujah i remember the prayer of my father it has not died with them it is passed down to us jaleesa it is passed down to us marlene it is passed down to us kim and now let the generations arise that the generations be mantled that the generations be free let the generations be set ablaze let the generation be set to fire in the name of jesus fire fuego fire in the holy ghost [Music] everybody give god a great praise right now young and old give god a great place give god a great praise out of your passion for him out of your passion for him [Music] in the mighty name of jesus even as we end this service i know that we have not received our offering yet but we will receive it at the end but this was much more important i know that there's a lot that we have gone into and that's okay but this is an important night for it signifies a change in this ministry it signifies a divine change [Applause] it signifies an inclusion an acceptance and understanding that we do this together i cannot do it without the younger and the younger cannot do it without the elder so to every one of you i pray the blessings of the lord on you and your children and your children's children i wear this hoodie it was created by brittany washington phillips and trent phillips it means everything really feel your feelings understand that there's more to your life and everything that you feel is important but faith goes past the feelings i wear this and let people know that it's okay to feel your feelings i i wear this and and and we're going to get a bunch of them and and make them available here from brittany and trent because i want people to be in touch with their real life their real life feelings and then i want to teach them how faith overrides it [Applause] faith so to every one of you i'm going to close here to every one of you i want you to prepare your offering prepare your gift but more than anything else we represent the gift of god this gift that is passed on to the generations and i thank god for all those that stand behind me and all that they represent [Applause] we will be doing much more hearing the voices of these the youth in christ be youthful in christ perfecting faith church is opening up its doors to the young to the youthful to the old young people now mother bros that includes you tuna to the older young people we're going to make sure that this ministry is at full strength and a healthy ministry in the mighty name of jesus christ amen to every one of you as bring 98 000 afghans to america we can surely let 14 000 haitians come in we are praying for haiti we are sowing seed into haiti so as you sow your gift and your offering know this it is going to circle the globe that offering that resource is going to circle the globe so please give liberally give cheerfully for god loves a cheerful giver and from perfecting faith church where ministry means people walk in the favor of god god bless you have a wonderful night the generations will worship god god bless you we've come to the end of the service and this is a perfect time for you to sow your
