hey everybody its natan stuff from adventure in a backpack we work from the road to sustain our travels which means we need to have internet everywhere we go this video is about how we do that we travel around full time in our custom DIY camper van that you see right back there having as many adventures as we possibly can if this sounds like your kind of channel be sure to subscribe to hit the notification bell below let's get started [Music] [Applause] [Music] Woodward remote areas like this we have to stay connected we have plenty of solar power to stay charged up but what about getting Internet out here it's not as hard as it seems so let's check it out [Music] sorry internet access is actually pretty straightforward we use 4G data from our phones to tether to our laptops we have an unlimited data plan from AT&T that allows us to unlimited tether to our laptops and use an unlimited amount of data now I'm not going to go into the specifics of the plan because our plan is actually outdated and not available anymore but there are tons of different unlimited data plans out there we do have AT&T and I can't really compare to any other provider because we've only had AT&T that being said we've had really good luck with a AT&T and the coverage that we've been able to get all across the nation the only limits that we apparently have on our data plan is that if we go above 22 gigs of data each then it can slow down our speeds in congested networks but honestly we have never seen that happen so it's really not a big deal and we go over 22 gigs every single month it really is as easy as that but we've got a little friend that helps us out let's go to the roof rack this is the external antenna for our weboost 4G booster it's on the top of our van so it can soak up the maximum amount of 4gb possible it's connected to this coaxial cable to the weboost brain this is what essentially takes the signal from outside the van boosts it and then repeats it inside the van now there's about a thousand different technical terms for what this thing actually does but we're not going to get into all of the technical specs of it basically your phone is only so powerful and can't grab as much signal as it possibly can without being more powerful or being bigger but it kind of defeats the purpose of a portable phone to make it bigger just to grab more signal so this thing essentially has one job and that is to grab that signal and boost it in here for your phone to pick up but oh that really doesn't mean that much without knowing how it actually performs in real world scenarios so I'm gonna run a few tests on the computer that is going to be linked or it's going to be tethered to the phone which is going to be boosted by the booster and I'm then I'm going to unplug the booster and see how the performance basically differs so let's get after it so first thing I'm going to do is start my hotspot on my phone know once it is up and running I'm going to connect to the Wi-Fi signal that that's created the screen on the left is going to be the one where the booster is plugged in mr. green on the right is going to be the one where the booster is unplugged I'm gonna go ahead and press GO on the speed test and the results are in for the boosted speed we have a download speed of 94 megabits per second and a upload speed of 27 point seven three megabits per second for the download speed on the unvoiced 'add with the booster turned off we have 81 point nine eight megabits per second and upload speed of one point two seven megabits per second so on the download speed it's it still makes a huge difference I mean 14 megabits per second is still a lot like if you're going from one megabit per second to 15 megabits per second that's a huge huge difference but the upload speed is mind-blowing faster from it goes from a upload speed up 1.2 7 megabits per second to an upload speed of 27 point seven three megabits per second which is you know rough math to hear about 20 something times the speed so that will make uploading a video much much much better and it will make even uploading pictures will be markedly faster now for the second test we are going to do a quick little video upload so we're gonna pull this random drone video from flying over the top of Tahoe this video is actually only about 15 seconds long so it's not that long it is how big is this one it is one hundred and thirteen megabytes so now we're going to drag that video into YouTube uploader and now we wait [Music] [Music] and this is just an example from our current location no this won't give you signal if you literally have no signal out in the middle of nowhere but generally what we see is that it will boost if you have some cell signal it will boost it up to a bar to a 4G or if you have like a bar of 4G it'll boost it up enough to upload videos and things like that which is really the most data intensive thing that we do so if you're ready to pick up the same 4G booster we have or just looking for some more information I've linked to it in the description below we'd love to hear your feedback or questions so be sure to drop those in the comments below and as you're headed down there be sure to hit the thumbs up button subscribe and hit that notification bell so until next time I'll see you later
