we've got ham hell no we're chris and melissa back in 2020 we left our empty nets to embark on a slow travel adventure living in 12 cities in 12 months this month we're in la vie quebec we've decided to take a little day trip from la vie to visit montmorency falls first we're going to make a quick stop at nearby saint anne de beaupre shrine st anne is the patron saint of quebec and the shrine is the oldest pilgrimage shrine in all of canada [Music] okay um i don't know honey that's hail when i booked today i checked the weather there was not supposed to be any rain it said nothing about hail uh hopefully it passed us quickly 12 seconds later don't worry honey that over there is sun and it's on its way so we can get on our way yeah [Music] we've only done that in canada we've never done it in the states so it's it's our little happy canada dance oh look at that [Music] little canada guys see i kind of think i fit in here does chris fit in [Music] the sun is shining i think we're going to be just fine today on all of our adventures we'll see here we go we gotta stop and get a diet coke exciting news i said you know i goofed up on what i wanted to do and so then i was like uh i would like cash please and then she was like what and i was like oh je vous dre la jean civil play or jean steven play and she's like oh yeah okay and then she knew how to explain it to me in english so just trying and and working through things it's fine and she was super sweet [Music] road construction a different language trying to sort it all out chris did a great job i just closed my eyes and just went for it [Music] see those waterfalls that's where we're going later today look at that suspension bridge we'll be able to go on that bridge what is this there's not supposed to be rain accuweather we've got hail hell no [Music] [Music] i would say this is the first time in our channel that we've gone to visit a church i think it is [Music] i'm thinking that's saint anne up there just a guess so is that saint anne yes up on this fountain it's saint anne holding mary on the piece of paper that mary is holding on that scroll it says carites in latin which means charity [Music] and notice at the top on both of their heads there are maple leaves the artist who created this to be put in in 2008 knew that the sculpture was coming to canada and felt that since that would be its location it definitely needed to have maple leaves incorporated into it [Music] okay that's not one thing i expected today going to a church like everywhere we go [Music] the history of saint and a beau praise shrine includes healing miracles the first one on record happened during the construction of the original chapel back in 1658 several healing miracles have been reported over the years the shrine has been rebuilt and expanded a few times the basilica that we're now standing in was built in 1926. what did you think i thought it was amazing and peaceful and i it's hard to share everything that i felt while i was in there uh i was impressed it's quite a beautiful place oh it's gorgeous yeah so that was thumb up above see i feel torn about waiting to church them up above somehow it just does not feel appropriate so i think we should go have lunch you wanna yes i'm hungry i don't think we have the right address strange okay i was a little bit worried about this one but we're at the restaurant there it is it's like some family gonna make us our meal or something because that's an apartment complex i have to get out my map okay you feel good about this i'm still not sure because it was really confusing when i was researching like it seemed like one part was like a catering business and one part was a cafe so i just entered in the name of the place but then it switched because it's supposed to be le petit back from what i read is a cafe well it just switches to lake's wild back i have no idea so what's the scoop on the restaurant it has 4.7 stars it has crepes it has sandwiches it seemed a little bit more fast casual than a true sit-down restaurant at least that's what i'm hoping for oh yeah laytuabek looks like we found it i hope they're open all right [Music] success we found the spot and they did have sandwiches unfortunately there's no indoor dining so we're sitting in the truck in our parking lot what are you gonna do at least there's food right yeah and it looks delicious so here's hoping i do have to say melissa went in there and used your little french powers and started off the conversation i think the lady was impressed i started off the conversation with because i read this sign and i'm like i think that means only take up but i'm not really sure i feel like really dumb it's like when she started talking english she was like that was her language it was like it wasn't like it was broken or anything it was like she in fact she talked english better than i do she spoke english better than you do see see okay just let's eat your sandwich i'm not sharing is it good it's okay my turn so i got some barbecue thingy all i could read was barbecue i knew that it looks a little bit like a crepe um there was one other word on there that i know you know honey yeah it did say tortillas so so it's not a cricket but [Music] it looks like it tastes like corned beef and then pickles good it's not the traditional barbecue what i think of when i think of barbecue these little carrot cakes look at them you know how they usually have that cream cheese frosting it's like this is advanced carrot cake here it's like they're using like frosting pellets or something never had frosting pellets before but here we go the little round white things are crunchy mmm that's good carrot cake i don't have to do another bite hang on him you're just gonna have to hang in there i'm sorry another bite mmm that's really good the different textures and i'm really curious about what's on the top it's almost like maybe clear citrus glaze maybe i don't know whatever it is it's delicious and it's it's a light cake you know it's like health food yeah it's shredded carrots in there health food total health food just keep eating [Music] looks like we've hit the busy time for coming to the park i feel like a tourist we're usually smarter about this aren't we well usually we would go to this sort of thing earlier on but i wanted to stop the church plus it was really cold outside [Music] i'm nervous because i'm going to go up there and they're going to say something to me in french and i'm just going to you've got to step up and help me i'm here for you honey because i'm just going to bonjour is that good hello i don't think you should do that i know so just beaujon i'll say bonjour then she'll start going or he he'll start going or you could just say hello and they'll go oh so you speak english i don't you know we should try everyone's been super kind yeah it's not like we've ever been like um how can we communicate there's a failure to communicate well there's been a couple of times where it's maybe been a little hard to understand one another but everyone's been very kind about it nobody's been like oh stupid americans or anything like that so that's been nice i'm sure they're thinking that when they you know look at me and i'm just like they don't think that when they look at me they go oh it's like the line at least do you think this gondola is going to be any scarier than the other guy maybe we've never gone on a gondola over waterfalls what do you think right now i'm thinking it's gonna be nothing but it's intentionally i don't think it's gonna be something and it ends up [Music] where's pros at those things that wasn't scary not at all it was fun it was quick very quick like a couple minutes really yeah is this right is this thing higher up than niagara falls i read that it is almost 100 feet higher [Music] is [Music] wait a second you could zip line across there yeah it's not open right now but if it were we could be zip-lining right across the water oh that might be a little scary would you do it i think so it looks intimidating montmorency falls is quebec's highest waterfall topping in at 272 feet and get this that's 100 feet higher than niagara falls how come i'm just hearing about this waterfall are you ready to pass can't suspend you stay ball the bridge is swaying back and forth it's freaking me out yes i mean i noticed this way a little bit but yeah she learns french she gets all tough probably not the highest suspension bridge we've been on but it was about huge waterfalls i felt pretty comfortable and confident on it it was a sturdier bridge than some of the suspensions true that's that's a lot of fun that was a thumb up a bump for sure oh so now you're gonna chill it's time to relax this was built for me that's mine over there [Music]
