[Music] what's up residence is your mayor aliser back once again with some big Atomic siiz news Godzilla Kong the new Empire has finally released which means we're getting thousands of initial reactions from the film as the review embargo lifted last night and so far the reception has been very mixed I gave the film an8 out of 10 for it imaginative set pieces beautiful visuals and action but that its writing was flawed and had a lot of contrivances I had a blast watching it and I think most of the fans of the franchise will have a great time with it though today we're going to take a look at the general reception for it how are people reacting to the film so far well originally opened to a pretty decent fresh score of 69% on Rotten Tomatoes nice honestly it's higher than I expected since when I saw it opening night I thought to myself this is a film not made for critics so the initial response was quite surprising actually but as of right now it's dipped all the way down to a rotten score of 56% with 68 fresh reviews and 54 rotten reviews this might increase or decrease however as more people go out to watch the film now remember this doesn't represent the film's quality all it shows is the percentage of critics that enjoyed it now what I'd argue is more important is the audience rating since that's indicative of how the general audience is receiving the film which in the end is what will drive that box office performance and as of right now Godzilla Kong has a score of 93% the highest in the monster verse the audience has spoken and they love the new Empire but now we have the context that people are enjoying the film let's pivot back to those Critic reviews and take a closer look at what people are saying and you can decide whether you agree with them or not K Walsh at tribune news service says when you multiply Godzilla by Kong what do you get when wingard's doing the math it's an Earnest wacky hectic ride that often feels like being thrashed around in an iMac seat and for some reason that's a rotten score but I don't know about you but that sounds like a positive review it's wacky and hectic and it feels like being thrashed about that's what you want how is that not a good thing there's actually quite a few of these where where they kind of say good things but it's still a rotten score which just shows even more to ignore that critical rating George Riviera Rubio from quio says one of the silliest most incoherent movies I've seen this year and I freaking loved it five more like this please and yeah this guy gets it this sounds like the kind of guy who's even though he's a Critic understands that these films are made for fun and there's a lot of silly but imaginative visuals that really push this to another level OD Henderson from the Boston Globe who's a top critic says the problem with Godzilla Kong the new Empire is the same as so many of these franchise-based films they're all soless special effects extravaganzas where CGI takes the place of character development good writing and emotional connection so you look at reviews like this and just wonder why did you go watch it if you did want a special effects Extravaganza why are you going to watch a monster film and I don't know about you but in the film there is plenty of character development and emotional connection but it's mainly towards Gia and of course Kong but what it seems like is a lot of these critics don't really consider the monsters to be characters they just can't really comprehend that just yet Emma wolf from spooky astronaut says not my favorite but I didn't dislike it um well why is it a rotten score then see I don't get it she gave it a 5 out of 10 which isn't a great rating but I mean that review says it's not that bad Jeremy Jan says it's dumb at times but dumb fun at times if it's dumb fun then you had fun with it why has it got a rotten score these critic scores are going to drive me mental Kylie Smith from the Wall Street Journal says I guess if you're not wowed by soless CGI chaos thrilling not really at the end I was left feeling the way Kong does at the beginning tired and bored once once again what constitutes towards being soulless cuz I assure you the people that worked on this film are extremely passionate about what they're creating it's made by fans for fans at the end of the day and there is plenty of heart at the core with themes of Oppression and slavery as well as what it feels like to be taken from your culture I don't know about you but that doesn't feel soulless to me Charles pulam more from The Verge says Godzilla Kong the new Empire pronounced Godzilla Kong like I first and last name features enough crowd-pleasing fights to satisfy theater goers but those hoping for the film to establish a way for the franchise to keep evolving may be disappointed and I don't know about you but in my opinion the new Empire still feels vastly different from Godzilla versus Kong in my opinion it has evolved the genre pretty significantly we've never really had a film where the monsters have been as focused as this but it seems a lot of people are just kind of ignoring the actual qualities of it Dylan Roth from The Observer says this is a monster movie for monster movie fans and not more but hardly 10 minutes goes by without monster action um good we want an action-packed movie but yeah I'm glad they gave it a fresh score thank you Observer Richard Cru from Richard Cru says the Rockham sockum action of Godzilla minus one turns it up to 11 it's a popcorn munching crowd pleaser that comes in and goes out with a roar I'm not really sure why they needed to compare it to Godzilla minus one the the two films are not even remotely the same but you know what I appreciate that they given it a fresh score Peter Howell from the Toronto Star says returning director Adam Wingard and his writers really lean into the cartoonish style of the show era Godzilla films from 1954 to 75 this includes abandoning all pretense of logic or plausibility never a huge concern in this franchise I do appreciate that he has brought up the show at era he seems to be the only person who's actually done his research next up we've got David Jenkins with little white lines who says so many effects Blockbusters attempt to run before they can walk mentioning no names but we all know he's talking about DC and at least winguard has the humble intent of a filmmaker who wants to make something simple coherent and fun and that's one of the things I praised in my review is just so imaginative and creative and fun with how it delivers these action set pieces it's honestly really going underappreciated Jermaine Lucia if I pronounce that right from from I9 says Godzilla Kong the new Empire is not a bad movie it's not painful watch there are good ideas in it along with beautiful visuals it is however largely forgettable and that's a let down when you've got two of the biggest stars ever literally you know I understand why people would think it's forgettable there's just so much action packed into that 1 hour 55 minute run time where it kind of just Blends into one once you've left the screening but I do really think this is a film that's going to get better on rewatches when you can really soak in all the little details although again this doesn't sound like it should have been a rotten score he says it's not a bad movie well if it's not a bad movie why have you said it's bad Chris Parker a fellow YouTuber over at 3C films says full of vibrant color visuals several action fueled sequences but most importantly a ton of heart it's not without its flaws but when a movie is this fun who cares and he gave it an eight out of 10 like me see this guy gets it he really understands what makes this F special he's gone in with certain expectations and the films only match that but I feel like a lot of these critics have gone into it without even watching a trailer next up we've got aan Warman which I actually saw the film early with he's from Empire magazine who says this doesn't reinvent the wheel and keeps you waiting too long for the final showdown when the creatures Collide it delivers satisfying Thrills I asked him when we saw the film what are you going to rate it and he said probably like a three out of five so I'm actually pretty happy that he's stuck to his guns and not buckled under the pressure of other critics low reviews next up we've got what I think is the harshest and most ridiculous review of them all Alex Bentley from culture map says Godzilla Kong the new Empire is an Abomination a film that contains close to zero charm humor or any other kind of emotion it's a soulless promotion that doesn't know how to properly showcase either it's human or Monster characters I don't want to be mean but how can someone be so miserable this review stands out because Abomination is such a wild word to use as a Critic zero charm humor or any emotion I don't know if this guy just hates the monster genre but it seems like he didn't actually watch this film because there's ton of charm and especially humor this film made me laugh quite a lot actually so yeah no don't don't listen to that guy's review so yeah no I mean there's there's plenty of rotten reviews where you can go yeah I understand where they're coming from but not that Zack pope from Zack Pope reviews says the war of the monsters I've been craving from the monsterverse a brutal bash that explores Hollow worth and centers the monsters as the main characters I'm not joking there are moments where it's all monsters no cutaways to humans all hail Adam Wingard thank you Zach and I really appreciate the Callback to war of the monsters I loved that game when I was younger next up we got Tim gon from screen International who says there is very little emotion or inspiration underneath the or IC violence and especially in the wake of last year's ingenious Japanese produced Godzilla minus one the new Empire feels old hat once again minus one is a completely different genre the new Empire exceeded in one area and minus one exceeded in the other they can both exist together they don't need to keep getting compared like this it's just getting silly and finally we have Owen gleberman from variety who says the movie can make your head hurt but not because it's too convoluted to follow it's because the real convolution is why are we supposed to care about any of this um I don't know man just just don't watch monster movies it's the fifth entry in the monsterverse so it's going to have themes and story plots that have followed through from the previous films so if you didn't care about those or didn't even bother to remember them then just don't go watch it don't review it they don't get critics some some have pretty respectable opinions on here there were those that liked and disliked it where I'm like yeah that's a fair response but some are so unnecessarily harsh where you got to think do you even like being a Critic either way the audiences are loving it and plenty of critics are having a good time but with that said you need to go see the film for yourself to make up your own opinion for those that have watched it what did you make of it let us know in the comments section down below but please no spoilers cuz the film just came out and a lot of people have yet to see it for more Godzilla Kong goodness subscribe and stomp the notification button to become a resident of dangerville today and give this
