We Love Katamari - #1 - FOR THE FANS

yes welcome everybody welcome to play frame and - we love Katamari it is the holiday season the Christmas week and that can mean only one thing at least on this channel yes it is time for us to chill out and just play a katamari game for a little while I have decided that is now a play frame tradition until we run out of good Kott Amaury games so I guess for just another 2 or 3 years but what a great few years it'll be anyway welcome get yourself a snack get yourself a drink and let's just chill out and hang out hang out and chill have a good time listen to some good tunes roll some stuff up here's some exceptionally ridiculous dialog it's all gonna be really good and maybe we'll do some QA toward the end if I start getting a little too loopy oh we're going to have ourselves a good time everyone so you may recall a year ago we played the HD remaster of the original cut amore dama see here on this channel and had a grand old time deep down I was really hoping that sometime in the following year they would announce a HD remaster of this sequel we love Katamari alas that did not happen but it's fine I have a PlayStation 2 I have an upscaler I can make this look good and by gosh I love Katamari so don't go to the load screen I'm trying it King you're messing us up King I'm trying to start the video game would you please let me out of this thank you take me back to that screen the title that's what I'm looking for thank you very much anyway I do love Katamari so bye gosh let's play this thing and have a very good week the Greek cosmos a world of mysteries tantalizing and terrifying not a very well publicized world to understand what a glamorous and influential world [Music] I feels good to be back sensitive and [Music] such is the great cosmos and the king that rules over it is marvelous to be home yes for the one time that he destroyed all the stars in the universe no big deal really having come to and realized the folly of his ways the wisest of kings sent to the planet Earth his beloved son the prince and commanded him to make a katamari of ample proportions and do that we did [Music] tossed on ceremoniously to earth the valiant Prince rule the katamari entrusted to him rolling up more things in you and count vaulting boxes pencils erasers postcards ramen robots cows sheep [Music] the prints roll them all then rolled until the katamari was big enough to be lifted up to space to replace the shiny stars that were so grievously loss and that dear friends was the plot and purpose of the fabulous game call right out of the game to bundle away the many and sundry ills that light the modern world overnight the king found himself a superstar the adulation of the crowd No Limits I meet the king [Music] oh dear such a chorus fans crying out from all over the world for the magnificent came to do his day ah man I love these games oh and I'm gonna get to read king of all cosmos lines for a week this is the best hmm still not enough stars here there is ah sweet memories yes there was that time that time we smashed all the stars in the sky it's like something out of a dream we so totally forgot hmm what made us remember lookey the only place with stars is around earth looks like Katamari Damacy was being lazy looks like Katamari Damacy had everyone fooled what impresses us all over is the scale of destruction we wrought we were on a roll yes we were fierce and fabulous we certainly were we were really something yes yes I was speaking of something here's a tidbit not that we get it but it seems we're quite a hit a big hit with earth the star so full of stuff a star now apparently full of our fans Prince Prince what do you think they love about us our looks our tights our moustache ah Eureka we've got it it's our chin yes that must be it yes must be our chin is so magnificent earth is full of dedicated followers of our chin I want to hold your chin let me feel your goatee they ask so nicely so passionately how can we say no so now our prince you must go to earth and grant our fans their wishes their wishes are our Chin's commands our Chin's commands are our wishes and so on oh it's all so good so here we are welcome to wheel of Katamari everyone we're back on earth and we've worked to do we fans to appease like this one yet this so enthusiastic nice to meet you your highness Katamari Damacy is fun or it was fun i think it must have been fun I'm sorry I've forgotten I've completely forgotten how to roll the katamari I know I'm a goof but I love Katamari Damacy help me remember please so be it dad alrighty let's leave our fans on earth to Prince now where shall we go into play oh it's Prince what do you want with us what oh you forgot forgot how to roll the katamari how to enjoy the katamari the meaning of life of course you forgot [Music] it's the things you can't forget that make you hurt we think it may be better not to dredge things up your artis is cool no it's important to remember it's crucial to remember yes we'll just try and think back yes the ego so here we are the story of we love kata Mari the king has fans on earth now who wants him to keep rolling kata Marius and because he has an ego he will continue to do it friends that forgot all about Katamari Damacy or friends playing their very first game of Katamari Damacy for all friends old and new prince will roll in their place so what is the katamari what could a Karim re be what does it taste like does it have a point why role why make it bigger so many opinions and schools of thought but let's just try it first yes hear ye hear ye we present to all and sundry the katamari there it is here it is this is an average Katamari so utterly devoid of any new and improved miss take this standard Katamari and roll it firmly with both hands that's why you use both of the analog sticks use your right and left hands to roll get it you get it that's enough yes we did good yes so just roll your way around until you have mastered Katamari Damacy on your own all righty see the yellow platform ahead for now let's head on over there all right here we are roll forward we roll backwards we turn we can roll sideways we can shift right we can shift left we can quick shift with both knees it's 10 controls basically and now we are going to roll ourselves up onto this yellow platform there we go perfect oh yes you got up there good good you are so smart all righty then go ahead and roll up stuff roll up lots and grow nice and big yes for those of you new to katamari games that is how it works you roll up small things with your little cada Mario ball here and as you roll up things you get a little bit larger and as you get a little bit larger you can roll up a little bit larger things and you just keep on doing it until eventually you are rolling up not tiny objects on the floor of this room but the room itself and the house the room is in and the streets the house is on and so on and so forth and to roll you are rolling up planets and it just kind of escalates from there it's a very fun satisfying concept you've grown good good you're so cute with a katamari that big you can climb up even higher try it's try it let's try it all right so I don't want to try it just yet I want to roll up more little things here I'm feeling a little bit perfectionist right now and also out of practice we need more practice if we are to impress we're the king of all cosmos is not easily impressed those of you who are with us last year may recall anyway let's get ourselves up to that platform I guess there we go Wow ease you got up there safe and sound Wow ease yet another thing you can do all right we're getting a little bigger we're willing up bigger stuff can't quite roll up those little angel things yet but oh when you're just a little bigger you could maybe roll ace up here this is ace a cousin to Prince or cousin once-removed we forget cousin kin something like that all righty it's time for you to challenge ace head-on I don't want to do that quite yet either I think that's going to end the level I want to roll the more things get larger got to impress for our father has high standards and is not an especially good parent figure in general yeah run ace your day will come once I've collected some angels and again for those of you who are new Katamari games have some of the weirdest most eclectic catchy enjoyable soundtracks in gaming and so uh yeah just I highly recommend if you've not done it before going and listening to all of the katamari soundtracks they are all worth your time they are all weird and great fun as you can hear or maybe can hear over the cacophony of the Angels I'm rolling up all right ace you're done that's right come back here you can't outrun me fabulous you're pretty good anyway let's go back royal rainbow [Applause] good to be back everyone I've been looking forward to it all year hmm was it like this Katamari Damacy honestly this is not what we were thinking of but it looks kind of fun a kind of sort of fun game 21 centimeters three millimeters we see we are a little touched so big and just from a training run an unbelievable size astonishing really very and truly fabulous that's actually incredibly high praise from this character we will not always achieve that oh it's cousin ace what were you doing on earth you were at the tutorial stage we have no idea what you're talking about hmm this feels Scott Amari feels strange ish not that we understand if that's a good thing or not oh wow I remember everything really everything this time it's totally the best Katamari Damacy your highness thank you so much this kotemari is just a token of my thanks I'd like to offer it to you really you're giving it to us seriously fabulous thank you we are so pleased what should we do with it oh we can pop it up into the cosmos yes that's what we'll do and so up it goes all our hard work up into the sky to become a star or a planet I guess just a strange planet oh look it's a star now wow it's so beautiful I know I've already said it probably a couple of times but this is gonna be a good week I hope you all enjoy it half as much as I do we totally forgot to tell you but this is the select meadow talk to fans chat with cousins do a little saving look at your collection move around a little maybe while pushing the square or circle button when you get tired of rolling just play in here look at the instruction booklets if some of the fans confuse you which they might oh yes we can move around here and I love the little beat that plays as we run around if we hold square we can run and the beat goes faster or we can hold circle which is even better in which we skip look how much fun we're having now the plot of this so like the original creator of Katamari Damacy was involved in this title as well but um I don't know how excited he was to be making a sequel to it but we're hungry yo let's roll here this is an earth home so unbelievably small plenty spacious for prints but not so much for us no we forgot about the calamari how about this much time to make this big a katamari if you can manage that would be nice alrighty Prince it's all yours now I love how kind of disinterested he is so like again I think Oh your first ever roll up it's 12:10 today today is 12:10 sorry your anniversary congratulations king you're kind of giving it away when I'm recording this but so it goes yeah right now actually Kari and I are away on travel for holidays and stuff we're having to record a whole bunch of stuff in advance to make this whole thing work and make sure we don't miss a day while we're out of town that's alright I'm in the holiday spirit it'll still work what was I talking about before right so the original Katamari Damacy got made and turned out to be a little bit of a cold hit got a bit of a cult following and there was demand for more and Namco wanted more to be made I don't know how super interested the original creator was in making a sequel like if you listen to interviews that guy like is very open with disdain for the the game industry's tendency to just focus on sequels and franchises and I really it's hard not to assume that he basically made that kind of the story where the original game happened a whole bunch of fans are springing up craving more demanding more and the king just kind of a like obliges them and like create some more Katamari to do but I enjoy it I enjoy this a whole lot this particular kata Mario game just has a very special place in my heart it's such good music alright well we are very close to hitting our goal actually goodness just one centimeter away I was only half paying attention this is promising I have a good feeling about how this playthrough is going to go not one failure not once calling it now so close come on come on yeah there it is a 15 centimeters already 15 centimeters we asked for a 15 centimeter Katamari really he's so disinterested I love it we're very hungry I can't remember so well since you're here anyway let's make it bigger he just barely cares hey it's a cousin come here oh centimeters four millimeters yes so undistinguished you can go bigger you know do us a favor and roll a bigger one awful father-figure just the worst oh it's second cousin macho what were you doing on earth hmm making friends with a crayfish we have no idea what you're talking about this feels like this kotemari feels snacks ish not that we understand what snacks ish means I got to see the Royal rainbow but it wasn't exactly Lively I think it's because the katamari was so small Wow getting criticism from all angles here I'm doing my best I'll give your highness this stale old Katamari Wow come on I did you a favor oh really you're giving it to us seriously fabulous thank you we are so pleased what shall we do with it oh we can pop it up into the cosmos yes that's what we'll do another star in the sky and thank goodness cuz apparently we had only put stars back in the sky directly around earth there's a lot of space left oh it's a star now wow it's so beautiful so the star gets praised ooh chapter one the path of the lion oh ah [Music] look at the baby king and the grand king of all cosmos training so hard [Music] goodness strict parenting [Music] hmm yes we're going to be learning more about the king in this one that storyboard was quite interesting it's a storyboard but the pictures move and there's music an extreme storyboard that's what it is it's called a movie how fascinating a movie for that storyboard movie what it showed is a glimpse into our youthful days a pretty tumultuous tale of derring-do we can't wait for episode 2 what if we keep rolling we'll eventually get to see it alrighty we're going to roll on ahead see you later yes indeed we will get that one in bits and pieces look at this we got two cousins around and the fun thing in this one is that you can swap it could be macho or we could be ace which is all great fun you know what let's be ace for a level why not now where's another fan who needs help well hello goodness hey King dude kinda Marik dama see we are not that easy we work hard at rolling you know no no not possible cannot be done no your highness is the best the best no not impossible not at all yes you are very and ourselves now I wonder if the cousins get such harsh criticism as the four little prince I really have been looking forward to this throughout the year looking forward to getting to do another calamari game for the holiday it's a weird holiday tradition I admit but I rather like it and yeah so like last time we did one of these series I started getting I guess a little brain weird toward the end of episode two and so I decided to start doing some Q&A we will do that again in fact I've already asked both Twitter and the YouTube community page for some questions so I get a whole bin of them to turn to if I start rambling too much [Music] for whatever reason this particular this particular franchise just kind of gets you rambling after a while I think it's just because your brain just sort of settles into this comfy Zen of like ah yes roll things up slightly bigger things you probably could be much more intense and focused on it if you were super worried about how you were doing but I'm just enjoying the ride y'all let's get these chickens why not they look great in our Katamari ball loading can finally we can talk we have a little trouble with loading you can't talk during loading you know we finally have our voice back but we can't talk when oh it go so fast when it starts loading oh goodness gracious we're sleepy we're just up - sleepy head you can get to more places if you're all on from here we're very drowsy but we will keep it together alright we can escape the room we can go roll in bigger places now so let's do one last little sweep through here and get out see what there is in the wide world outdoors cats for one pardon me excuse me pardon me how do I get ah here we go it okay here we go yes we are free free and unleashed upon an unsuspecting public I really do love how just out there and eclectic these games soundtracks are alright my understanding is that the person in charge of the music of these like composes a lot of original pieces does also like reach out to like I understand just a bunch of eclectic artists in Japan and just ask them hey you want to write something there's some more niche music acts in Japan and the results are great like it's just a weird mishmash of every kind of genre you can imagine and it all comes together beautifully so many different fun energies come on get larger we're so close and with still some minutes to spare maybe just maybe we can get this car to mari large enough to get some praise ya know gecko things is it you're not get goes whatever you are stand aside forty centimetres already so fast that only took like a second we're sleepy and that was fast but keep working making as big as possible I'll do my best ya can't roll up the soccer ball yet that's fine what are you can I nope crash congratulations thank you grab the stuff all right so with living things in Katamari again in case you've not played one of these before if it is a living thing it may kind of charge at you aggressively sometimes if it's bigger than you if it recognizes that it's smaller than you and could potentially be picked up it will try to run away when you're first able to start rolling them up you won't know I got a present a present for us a present from a fan make sure you keep it safely rolled up will do I want presents but yes living things will first get kind of like knocked around and stunned and then you can pick them up if you get a bit larger than that you may be able to just roll them up instantly like that doggy who caused us problems just minutes ago man two minutes to go still and we're nailing it 70 centimeters now oh yeah they're gonna be so proud of us the fan the king at last we're gonna get the praise we deserve the praise we crave you have to roll up moving things before they run off kind of a pain isn't it it is I agree I got a frill-necked lizard that's what they're called not geckos gotcha another one oh so many lizards and old newspapers what a great can appreciate it or make sure you do appreciate it rather this feels this kotemari feels food-ish not that food-ish sounds very nice hey what's this this big one here wow dude it'll give me some bad nothing can happen without water the oceans the mountains we all owe our existence to water calm calm let's go rolling underwater yes let's but the fuss they're making out of it I'm assuming that maybe they wanted to make an underwater level in the first game and that just didn't work out there was that one level where you roll up a bunch of crabs was that not underwater I guess I wasn't underwater Wow eased amazing place Oh you can breathe Prince snorkel of course yes look at our little snorkel and our little waterproof hopefully camera forgot about the kotemari this much time this big economy re that would be nice blue prints all yours now yeah ah this is nice I love it it's so calming are picking up fish and stuff and turtles are like popping us around which I guess that's fair this is where they live it is their right but as I grow I think the tides will turn grey fish well I guess that can happen wow he is reeled in what a quirky quandary we want to be reeled into we want to splash and flop and gasp so I guess that um well hopes us reach certain things but also stalls us for a while so I guess let's not run into fish hooks if we can help it yeah we're getting crabs and another camera that is much larger than ours oh look at the little fish breathing underwater no oh look at the little cat so chill see this is what holidays is all about chilling with video games that make no sense yeah well I will say cut of our games are real good family fun in my experience like weird as they are this is the kind of game that in my experience you can show to like anyone's like parent like non game playing family member and just like throw them at it and be able to play it it's pretty simple to control and they'll get the basic concept oh yeah roll up little stuff get bigger role a bigger stuff got it and yeah like in my experience most times they'll really enjoy themselves and it's fun for everyone to watch with Pleasant music and fun little visuals [Music] and now the original game got like rereleased on switch and different least on PC as well might have just been switch I don't remember but anyway man I hope they release more connemara games or just make a new one I don't really need much from a katamari title to be honest like I enjoyed that um in this in this sequel and all and all this equals following they basically just kind of made the same game but they started adding in more like I don't really want to call them gimmick levels but I guess they kind of are just like gimmick levels like this here in this one you're underwater in this other one you're like well I guess I don't want to spoil it we're gonna be doing a bunch of the levels in this game but they're really fun they like they mix up the formula a bit keep things feeling fresh and that's really all I need just give me a new give me a new soundtrack full of weird fun hits to new places to roll some more great dialogue from the King and I'm good to go I don't really know how well this series has sold like I don't know how well the how long cult classic sales will take you but probably didn't help that the HD remaster of the original game was released on the same day as Smash Brothers ultimate I get the feeling one of those games did a lot better than the other and it probably wasn't cut Amaury we did it eighty centimeters eighty centimeters we 80 centimeter calamari we can't so well since look anyway look bigger this is fun look at these fishing cats these cats know what's up and that one's name was Tom who she know that particular fishing cat who had life figured out all right we're doing great are there any more presents and or cousins I see a cousin who I see a cousin that's a cousin yeah look you just blur gold wood some round cousin Marnie we look good not doing well in the water I guess and let's see two minutes left let's find that present we got it gotta find it or at least get more snorkelling cats and this treasure come on where's the present hiding for real though there's so much litter in here we are doing a public service and the world should thank us presents anywhere anything what am i rolling up now I can't even tell who maybe the presents out of the water maybe that I guess not ah geez so short on time got a present somewhere gotta find it well at least we got penguins they're sort of a gift if you think about it I'm doing pretty well at least right it got to be happy with that how well okay how was today look nice go home yes let's before you drown these are such wonderful comfort games for me I love them oh [ __ ] oh oh it's fun to swim by the way we found this underwater looks familiar no it's a good amore 1 meter 76 centimeters 5 millimeters looks like it might drown it's not small but it's not big either come on I thought that was quite big you can make it bigger yes you can work harder yes oh it's cousin Marni what were you doing on earth hmm you were riding a manta ray we have no idea what you were talking about this soaking-wet Katamari is very aquarium ish also a bit snack see and somewhat dangerous too it's kind of damp I know it's under water at everything but still can't you be more clear about baking it bigger you're gonna have this thing your highness I'll be just looking at it makes me feel like I'll never learn to swim Wow harsh words from everyone oh really you're giving it to us seriously fabulous thank you we're so pleased what should we do with it oh we can pop it into the cosmos yes that is what we will do well I'm proud of our work someone has to be oh lovely wonderful is this the land of dreams it's so beautiful we are all struck by the power of Mother Nature now completely slipped our mind how about this much time to roll up as many flowers as you can and make a beautiful herbaceous Katamari alrighty Prince it's all yours now yeah it's so peaceful and nice so yes in this level we roll up flowers as many as we can flowers in particular nothing else will do and we listen to nice music it's just great overall feel like this is what I would call one of their gimmick levels sort of like it's not the most gimmicky of them or anything but like yeah I think gimmicks in this particular game series are fun and look how pretty we are look at all our flowers and such lovely music under all this noise flowers are pretty too true well we've rolled up a person and it's kind of spoiling our flower Calamari's whole vibe but maybe if we roll up enough flowers this unsightly person will be concealed do your best flower impression person maybe you will fit in [Music] alright wildlife you can come too you know what whatever we are expanding our standards for this particular Katamari it's all about new style and that requires creativity and a willingness to explore [Music] well 700 flowers already we're doing great I think within apparently what I think it doesn't matter when it comes to how good our Katamari is it never has mattered and it never will at least not that I recall in this series all right 800 pretty good so romantic hey a cousin oh you just rolled up some weird strawberry wait it's cousin Ichigo oh stop getting in the way ooh let's take this guitar I love guitars if looked a little more like a trumpet but um okay I'm sure the guitars in there I know I know you had just said it a couple times already but I love what a weird mix of sounds this soundtrack is filled with oh hi underwater bear oh wait we're not underwater our wavers kind of like in the shade right yeah I know because that's water just didn't know why
