I took a FX 8350 to a jewelers once because of bent pins, I had a brainfart and thought he would have the tools for the job so gave it a try, he even let me have a go, it worked and I gave him Β£10 for 10 mins work, he said no keep it but I insisted.
This is actually good LTT content.
I hope AMD stays with these pins on consumer CPU's for as long as practically possible. I used to see a couple of home builders every month that trashed their Intel LGA sockets beyond salvation, while I've never seen an AMD CPU that couldn't be fixed within a serviceable time frame. Time is money especially if it takes up time on a tricked out workbench, which more than the slightest LGA mishap is likely to require.
π just thinking about that
very surprising that it still worked after they out it back in
I think he needed less air on his gun and avoid using that stupid template. It should be an easy job with a cheap microscope. Components go in place themselves due to surface tension.
He didn't use any solder, only flux,
he didn't actually clean the new pins,
that template is stupid,
and they complicated it to hell and back.
I've never really understand why we still use pins of any sort. Surely we could just have small sprungs ball contacts on both the CPU and socket that make contact? I am guessing it's a manufacturing cost issue.
