Was it Possible for Shane and Otis to Escape? | The Walking Dead

[Music] the single biggest hot take regarding my video on Shane Walsh's sacrifice of Otis is in my ever so humble opinion the frankly delusional claim that Shane and Otis had good odds of escaping together alive with all of the medical equipment they gathered for Carl if you haven't seen that video where I discussed the ethics of Shane's decision and also the practicality of it check it out on my channel now here's a little fun fact about me I'm actually extremely Petty when it comes to debating topics due to this little fact about my competitive personality I think you'll come to find that this follow-up video will be entertaining and also informational albe it said information will be worthless outside of this particular discussion because you know we're sort of talking about a fictional story be that as it made my initial claim was that we didn't have enough information to contradict Shane's conclusions about the men's dire circumstances and we know Otis seemingly agreed in the sense that he acknowledged that [ __ ] was hitting the fan many of you in the comments section argued quite unconvincingly I might add that there was plenty of quote evidence to suggest that Shane and Otis could have escaped which by the way no one actually presented given the lack of real or truly compelling evidence provided I decided to do some serious research in order to settle this silly little debate once and for all fine I'll do it myself the footage on your screen right now is of a high school known as nun High School does it look familiar to you you see nun High School is the real life location of where Shane sacrificed Otis it is located in Nunan Georgia this High School is supposed to be Cranwell high school at least in The Walking Dead Universe Otis and Shane parked somewhere next to Waterworks Road and lrange Street and they snuck in by foot we don't actually see where they parked but it had to have been a decent away from their first scene together as to not draw attention from the literal [ __ ] horde camping the school my guess would be probably an entire Street away but we really can't say for sure I mean this is entirely speculation but it is logically coherent speculation unlike the speculation often given to argue that Shane and Otis could have escaped easily together the two men end up collecting a ton of medical supplies many of which were listed by hersel we're talking about drapes suture needles antibiotics anesthesia tanks and most of all oxygen tanks and respirators that's roughly 100 to 130 lb worth of medical gear meaning each man is probably carrying roughly 50 to 65 lbs on their backs now here's some perspective for you the average Marine combat load is 56 lb that's what Shane and Otis were carrying on their backs we then eventually see that Shane makes it out of the gymnasium and ends up by the baseball field right before otus saves him then the men make it to the tennis courts after after that they somehow make it to this main parking area and this is where Otis dies now I timed the struggle between Shane and Otis and the struggle not including the scene of Shane shaving his head lasted a mere 34 seconds right from when the muscle flash went off which by the way is much faster than what many commenters on my video claimed as soon as Shane gets away from Otis the Walkers are right on Otis about 2 to 3 seconds behind Shane this means that they were less than 100 ft away from both men you know what probably less than 50 if we're being honest speaking of feet I'll be using the map's distance reference to make some calculations the best case location for the car assuming they parked it right where we see the men entering the high school is 400 ft away or 1 and 1/3 of a football field away the ground isn't entirely flat either as the Topography of the area is littered with steep hills hence it stands to say that entire segments of the most direct route would slow them down and further exhaust them this also doesn't account for obstacles like broken down vehicles and the FEMA trailers all it would take is one to two trips and the Walkers would be on Shane and Otis as it took the men roughly 15 seconds to get up when they last fell ignoring their little conversation about ammo and here's the thing these guys tripped on flat [ __ ] ground imagine what happens when they get to the hills once they get to the truck they have to unload their head heavy 50 lb plus bags placing even more weight on their injured ankles and then somehow get in the truck and then pull out in less than 40 seconds assuming they managed to keep the same distance from the Walkers which by the way is highly unlikely in all reality they'd probably have less than 15 seconds before The Horde gets their old ass truck because this entire time they will have slowed down this could also cause the truck to be stuck in The Horde itself now is it possible that they could make it I mean sure in the best case scenario but the truck was likely not just 400 ft away it was probably another Street down this is also assuming they opt to climb the hilly segments of the school which is the most direct path they could have taken the best path for their fet and the footage seems to imply this which means they're going to be walking more than 400 ft the men are slowing down the Dead Aren't and I'm expected to believe that they could just walk away magically when they could barely walk straight to beginning with for more than a football fields length carrying over 50 lb each all on injured ankles they've literally spent the whole [ __ ] night running around like headless chickens I mean do you really think they have that much stamina left in the tank worst case scenario both men have to treack more than two football fields away which isn't crazy if you consider how long a street is and all of this is being done with a serious time constraint on the men while a horde of Zeds is actively gaining on them these dudes were cooked and anyone who disagrees has literally never experienced an ankle injury while then attempting to carry over 50 lbs on their back while hiking hundreds of feet on hilly terrain maybe Shane could make it because he was fit but the fat guy no [ __ ] way if you believe otherwise I've got a used condom to sell you because you're one gullible person who'd end up being a member of the ones who die Club in the Walker apocalypse that said please don't take my Jabs personally I worked hard to look this [ __ ] up for you appreciate the effort it takes to win an argument about a fictional event in fact one way to support this effort is to setting all of that aside I can agree that maybe Shane should have doed Otis as opposed to leaving him to experience a painful death but there's plenty of ways to handwave away that suggestion shooting the leg is less telegraphic and leaves less time for Otis to react Otis screaming may have been part of the plan who cares it was the right call even if it was executed in a tragically sloppy manner now I don't want to spend any more time on this video as I think I've made my point pretty clear if you like this sort of content please like
