If you knew the back story to this watch you would realise just how appropriate that is but I am going to save that for another video In this video I am just going to restore this beautiful wartime ladies watch Ooo! Now that is pretty Let's just turn it around But there's something gross on the ratchet wheel I looks like a dead fingernail, or something I am going to have to get rid of that So just coming in here with a piece of pegwood to get rid of the dead fingernail Uurrgghh!!! So the stem is just falling out on it's own which indicates a problem with the setting lever and the click isn't working so when try to wind the watch up the mainspring just pushes back against the keyless work but it I hold the power on myself you'll notice that the balance starts to oscillate and that Oooh! Gunk Alert! We are going to have to get rid of this nasty green gunk as well And here is the culprit for the stem falling out because the screw that holds the setting lever in that you can see here has snapped and is left inside the setting lever now this watch has obviously had some End Shake problems because this why you can see the mainplate so badly carved up underneath the balance cock ***** Remember To Subscribe ***** Ok the mains pring looks good but I am going to change it for a new one anyway Ok so that is the click fixed up and nicely working So the pallet fork on this watch is impossibly small and in a minute you are going to see a close up where I am making sure that I can see he pivots through the jewels beacuse without that then you are really really very likely to break the watch Ok this can be a bit tricky but it is nice to see it when it goes And here is is then finished this lovely little watch by Gruen wihich is which is now about to wing its way back across the atlantic to the equally lovely Lisa and there is a really interesting back story to this watch so stay tuned because I am going to do another video on this watch really to bring out the whole reason why it came to me in the first place for restration and repair Anyway guys if you like my videos then you can subscribe by clicking on my face here and you can watch another video by clicking here
