[Music] so we're going on a little Sidetrack Adventure here yes we're going to be heading down to the uh Ward Charcoal Oven State Park to check out the charcoal ovens yes I'm excited about this one I uh I really wanted to get this in while we were here yeah this is just down the road from Cave Lake State Park which is where we're staying yeah just about I think another 5 miles or so I've been trying to spot them out there I I can't can't even tell where they're at so we're going to be heading that way into the state park and checking them out so they have some really interesting history here of how many people were actually here whenever they had an active mind pretty cool Peak population of, 1500 a million dollars worth of silver was taken from a single chamber of the mine wow that is amazing and my understanding is that the charcoal ovens were used to I think smelt the uh the silver silver Y and they said after the after they weren't using them anymore I believe they were turned into places where visitors could actually stay there this was a long time ago yeah so there's another sign over here on this side for Taylor I believe there was originally two small towns out here silver and gold were discovered by Taylor and John Platt in 1873 and what was to become Taylor a typical mining community supported chiefly by The Argus and monitor mines okay this is the one that has 15,000 I thought there was one that said 15,000 that was in the 1880s I think mining is such a cool thing but look how beautiful it is it is it's insane I mean we are remote yeah right here I believe this is uh Highway 50 that we're on that's headed south so you ready to go into to the park yes let's check this out do they have a visitor center I don't know I don't think they do though [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] that was a fun drive wasn't it yes I don't think I would have wanted to do it with the camper no I'm glad we did it without the camper yeah there is a room to probably Park a camper here but if this is busy at all then it's a no y so and there was the campground's over that way we were going to drive through there after we're through here and just check it out so I was expecting to be able to see him from the road I kept looking and I couldn't see them I'm like man they're they're further back there than what you think just by looking at Google Map yeah so like what 7 miles off the road yeah it's about 7 miles off this is just a straight road that went on forever so this is going to be cool it is a fee area I think it's going to be 10 bucks for a non-resident so we'll go ahead and uh pay our fee entrance only uh per vehicle per day uh Nevada vehicle five bucks non Nevada that's how it should be I'm okay with that so we'll go ahead and uh pay the piper what is this passport stamp oh it's missing somebody probably stole it why steal this kind of thing that just stop steing see this got a brochure oh that's your envelope y all right and then um I'll get some monies out of my pocket here okay did you pay the man that looks like money to me it is all right I'm not going to fill out the thing I don't think it's really necessary we've got the we've got the tag uh showing where do you put it I think it's right here yep oo am I going to get in trouble by not just put it in there it's the 10 bucks we have this as proof that we paid for it right there yeah yeah and a video so let me go put that in the truck though just in case the ranger comes by agreed agreed agreed these are so cool Charcoal Oven to Bandit Hideout they're beautiful pretty amazing they said they only used them for 3 years because they ran out of tree trees and really didn't have a need for charcoal after that after the uh the silver boom waned all right so look at this one oven equals six acres of trees wow that's crazy 36 Acres of trees for all six ovens yeah wow so you going to do the honors of uh checking it out Force I'm you want me to go in I will of course I do yes there's still snow right here so be careful oh my gosh it's so cool still snow wow these are totally cool it's very echoey in here oh wow right this is beautiful this is very cool that's cool yeah really interesting history of these guys yeah so I guess we'll have to check out all six I'm sure they're pretty much the same but they are but I'm going in every one we're out here so we got to check them out it's funny seeing the snow Yeah like that we're just not used to that in Florida little bit muddy coming into that one okay this one has a little bit bigger opening at the top so I have noticed that theyve got some holes at the bottom around the uh around the circumference of the ovens I'm I'm assuming to help pull in oxygen and help get the wood burning just something totally cool about standing inside those things it is it is this place is really cool so one more to go might well well get all of them in but if you've seen one you've seen them all but I have noticed that the first couple down there have a little bit more missing off the peak than these down here the last three here yeah this one you can tell was used the most yeah it's a lot darker in here on the on the brick probably because it's closer to the mountain closer to the source or I don't know if this is considered Stone I'm assuming maybe this is just stone that they use instead of brick I mean well they really are beautifully built but these are darker here than the first couple that we went in great place to come and see just really cool we're in a state park and there's only two of us out here yeah I don't know about the campground but there's nobody else here no now they got a hike Trail here look at the Little Creek Willow Creek Trail this has been a great place to come and see it's uh definitely beautiful here and very peaceful out here the only thing we have heard is an airplane that's it and there's like one little puffy Cloud that's it Yep this is a beautiful day really is turning out to be a nice day so definitely cool to see the charcoal ovens if you had it down Highway 50 you can certainly stop in here and check it out yourself you know what I got to tell you I had to go to the uh The Ranch store today and buy a new coat is that the new one this is the new one and it is very fuzzy and very warm I have been absolutely freezing I brought plenty of clothes and they're not enough I could put them all on I've just been really cold it's been cold though when I got up this morning and went outside it was about 6 or 6:30ish yeah it was 15° yeah yeah yesterday morning when I woke up it was just under 13° when I looked outside yeah yeah I I know that it's a little colder than it normally would be during this time of year but and that's what everybody's told us is that usually right now it's 30s at night maybe which is perfect and fine with me but it's been a little uh it's been a little hard to sit out at the camp for it has been when when it gets freezing cold when the Sun goes down we're out there and we're like this is great but that's one of the benefits of having an RV it and while we have one we have the we have all the amenities that we need heat shelter water but we're going to have some great camps coming up on this trip we know that as we this is the furthest west that physically this spot right here is the furthest west that we're going to be on this big Hall yeah from here we're going to be heading back East through Utah we got some spots in Utah that we're going to yes really excited about that and I'm hoping as we start working our way back that way it's going to gradually start warming up a little bit I think it might I just bought a new coat so it definitely will well when you get home you can hang it up in the closet and it'll be ready for next year's agreed well this has been a uh a fun experience here at the charcoal ovens yeah and uh amazing we're going to head back down the road to Cave Lake where our camper at enjoy the rest of the evening I think we're going to do a little Camp oven cooking for dinner today and then uh tomorrow morning we head out to Utah new place new places starting tomorrow yay we've been in a lot of great new places to us yes we have it really has been wonderful [Music] we just wanted to come through here and check out the Willow Creek Campground and see what it looks like this place is really nice it's a nice sight right here easy pull through I'll let Abby get that side there nice little cover nice little table fire pit and a grill and a good view yep it's a nice sight there yeah this is really nice this is uh nicer than I was expecting it is back here I think this campground's a little bit easier to maneuver than the one that we're in this is a nice site right here look at this easy to back into yeah that looks nice and big a nice Fire Ring area like this one's small so you know I don't know if we'd be able to get in that one well I'm imagining they're going to have all this stuff on the website now Nevada is going to the the new State Park uh reservation system yeah and they usually have each site kind of listed as the max length that you can uh camp at you know or or it can accommodate anyway yeah yeah this is beautiful they all look nice though yeah they do that would be a good pull through site there for a trailer like ours I was not expecting the little canopies that's uh very cute looks like they got brand new picnic tables out here boy it is quiet too there's nobody out here there's not all right so there's a water hydrant there to the right this is a handicap site there and they got a bath house right there all right I'm liking it yeah I like this Campground yeah it's a cool place [Music] [Music]
