full body tracking in VR is something I've always been a massive proponent of I think it increases immersion exponentially in games that allow it and being able to move around freely and have your entire body tracked is an amazing experience not to mention there's massive communities of people that use full body tracking to dance fight you can kick in some games there's even other use cases like V tubing or using trackers as a pseudo VR treadmill I'm here to talk about the Vive ultimate trackers HTC's newest iteration up until this point getting high fidelity body tracking was limited to a few headsets like the indexer Vive or you had to use a complex external setup if you were in a quest since the best tracking method has been with lighthouses and the Vive 3.0 trackers things like slime trackers do exist but gyroscope tracking methods have always had a lot of problems in my opinion and they desync frequently which is not a problem I've had with the ultimate trackers just to clarify things before we get into the rest of the video I am being sponsored by HDC to cover these and I'm very grateful to them for that I wanted to cover these anyway I know a lot of people have been curious about them I'm going to try and go into as much detail as I can and talk about if these are worth it especially if you were previously using 3.0 trackers you might be wondering if these are better and if you should buy them I'll get into that let's start with the build quality these feel solid and wellmade they are slightly heavier than the 3.0 trackers at 94 G versus 75 that makes a lot of sense there's a lot more components in these including two cameras because these are completely self-tracking you do not need lighthouses to use these as far as hooking them onto your body with straps they are a little bit different by default they don't have a screw in the back HTC sent me some Dam stash track straps made by rebuff that were me specifically for the ultimate trackers and you just clip it on I actually like this design a lot better than the back scare in the 3.0 it makes it much faster to take off or switch straps or something in the Box they do include a back attachment that turns it into the regular screw system so you can use third party straps that were previously made for the 5 3.0 trackers they have the standard USBC and power button this time it's at the top versus the middle battery life is around 7 hours which is exactly the same as the 53.0 trackers and if you're spending more than 7 hours on VR during a single session this is what I have to say to you stop it get some help hooking it up to a headset or PC it does come with a USBC dongle now one thing that's very cool is you can connect up to five of these trackers to a single dongle on the Vive 3.0 trackers you could only connect one tracker per dongle so if you're using these with pcvr you can save a lot on USB space that's absolutely amazing all right on to setup and tracking in case you're wondering yes this can be used entirely in standal and VR without a PC but this is currently only possible with a Vive XR Elite headset and not on a quest stand alone you can use it with a quest on PC and it works great I'll get into that later but if you only have a quest and we're thinking of getting these trackers for full body they might be compatible with the quest on stalon one day but I have no information on that so don't quote me I'm going to briefly talk about the vibe XR Elite HTC did send one over so I could test out Standalone full body tracking I know this headset got kind of a bad WP from reviewers when it first launched but frankly I really like it it's a quality VR headset it's lightweight it actually feels significantly lighter than the quest and the display an fov feel great at 110° the headset is itself is very modular with the battery strap being able to be removed and one of the coolest features which I wish more headset manufacturers would look into is the adjustable di optometer so if you wear glasses you can just adjust this for your own prescription which is very cool okay so getting this to work in Stalin was not hard at all you can just plug in the dungle to the back of the battery strap and go through the setup process inside the headset which involves kneeling down and scanning the room by looking up at a little creature that runs around I tested out the stone full body tracking in four places around my house and it took maybe 2 to 3 minutes to set up if you do change your play Space you'll have to redo the setup process but it wasn't bad at all then you're good to go you might need to hold out the tracker to your chest if it loses tracking but for the most part this is extremely fluid as you can see I'm testing this out in VR chat in several places including outside and it's mimicking my body movements really precisely again this is all in Standalone just the mobile processor is doing this it's really impressive now I did have better tracking indoors you do need a good lighting setup for this so if you expecting to turn around to random places or get full body tracking outside and have it work 100% of the time that's not going to work too well but inside in a living room or something it works 100% of the time with similar tracking Fidelity to the 3.0 let's talk about pcvr so first I want to make this clear I know some people are confused these trackers are not exactly an upgrade to the 3.05 trackers it is another option a very good option and in some ways it is better but that depends on the situation and if you're expecting these to have better tracking over a 3.0 Lighthouse tracker that's not the case it does give basically the same tracking Fidelity in almost all cases but I'll get into that so setup on pcvr was a pretty straightforward process I'm not going to sugar coat it it's a little bit annoying the first time you do it you kind of have to scan your play space with the tracker and tilt it in different directions to get it accurate I understand why it's like that though it has the scan room to get accurate tracking so it's not a big deal you also need to opt into the pcvr Beta with the Vive streaming Hub or by the time you watch this it might just be a part of the regular Branch I'll link the setup video by HDC in the description make sure you watch that it'll tell you how to opt in calibrating The Trackers after your initial setup of your play Space is pretty simple you just grab the tracker and move it with your motion control and figure eight a couple of times and it works you may need to do the calibration again but I didn't have to unless I changed my play space or I tested it with another VR setup like I had to calibrate going from a quest to my VI Pro with index controllers but if you're on a single V headset it's unlikely you'll need to run through the calibration again they should just be tracked when you turn them on and yes these do work with a Quest 2 or Quest 3 on pcvr as well as any other pcvr setup they're also probably the best full body trackers right now if you are in a quest and have a PC the tracking Fidelity on PC was pretty fantastic and if you're wondering what apps these work with it'll work with any app you could previously use a 3.0 on make sure you set the trackers as body parts in the steam VR menu but you can use these for V tubing with live and they also work with natural Locomotion if you want a pseudo VR treadmill I highly recommend that app for things like Skyrim VR it makes movement a lot more fun okay let's talk about these compared to 3.0 for full body tracking I'm going to be focusing on VR chat but there are other apps like resonate and upcoming RI XR that will work with full body oh and in case you're wondering these do actually work together with the 3.0 you can see me testing it out here with a 9-point tracking setup if you really want to go crazy my personal opinion on having six trackers is I think it's a bit of an Overkill most people aren't going to notice the difference between three trackers and six trackers and putting on six trackers just to play VR chat or something would get kind of old after a while but they do work together if you want an ultimate tracking setup okay so comparing the ultimate trackers to the 3.0 in 99.9% of circumstances they're going to have the same exact Fidelity I also never had to recalibrate during a session which is a well-known issue on gyroscope tracking methods slime VR because you'll start getting drifting not an issue with these they stayed exactly where they were supposed to now there is one instant SL body movement where the three ponos are a tiny bit better and that's with jumping or doing a lot of complex fast Movement Like if you're a VR brake dancer or something when I jumped high with the ultimate trackers the waist tracker did freak out a bit I didn't have that issue with 3.0 it came back pretty quickly though and having weird tracking stuff can also happen sometimes with the 3.0 Vib tracker like if it gets excluded a bit and doesn't see a base station the 3.0 Vib trackers aren't perfect either but but both of these are very good and the fact the ultimate ones can even have this much accuracy without a lighthouse is extremely impressive other than that I could move around quickly I could dance with these and kick my leg I played dance stash and it felt great and extremely accurate to my body movements did these feel more accurate than the 3.05 trackers I'm going to be honest no it didn't it felt very similar but that's a good thing the 3.0 trackers are awesome also these are cheaper the ultimate tracker itself is a little more expensive but an entire setup is not a Vive 3.0 full body tracking setup which includes three trackers three lighthouses and straps is going to be around $1,100 three ultimate trackers with straps comes out to around $650 so you're saving a lot of money and getting essentially the same exact setup so let's say you're already on a lighthouse setup with 3.0 trackers and you're on an index or NATO steam VR headset do I recommend you go and buy these I'm going to say that depends if you are a VR break dancer and you're doing crazy stuns in VR you might just want to stick with your 3.0 setup if you're not doing that and you want tracking for casual full body stuff playing dance Dash or you're on a Quest and don't want to run open space calibrator these are absolutely awesome and you're going to get basically the same experience my final thoughts are yes this is absolutely worth the money if you're in a quest you don't have lighthouses and you're in the market for full body tracking 100% get these over any other Standalone trackers you're going to have better Fidelity and a much better time than with slime or other gyroscope methods out there if you already have a 3.0 tracker and Lighthouse setup again I'm going to say that depends on your personal situation maybe you're in a quest and don't want to deal with lighthouses open space calibrator or other annoying stuff you need 3 pointer is to work then absolutely these are a great alternative but if you're on an index big screen Beyond or you're using index controllers and need to use base stations anyway to get your headset to work and you have 3.0 trackers already do I think you should get these I mean you're not really going to notice the big difference with the Fidelity for that specific Niche setup probably not worth it you've already got the 3.0 and the tracking Fidelity is great for everyone else though yeah these are absolutely fantastic I'll leave a link for the trackers in the description if you want to check it out thank you for watching let me know in the comments what you think of the ultimate trackers are you going get some let me know and subscribe for more
