hi there i'm jack canfield and they I want to talk to you about the power of visualization one of the projects I'm currently working on is finishing a new book called living the success principles it's a book of stories by ordinary people who have achieved extraordinary results by applying the principles in my book the success principles one of my favorite stories is by Romeo Marquez who has been using the power of visualization to achieve his goals in his career as an actor and I'd like to read you some excerpts from his story and hopefully inspire you to also apply this powerful but under use technique for success Romeo writes I graduated from UCLA with a BA in acting I knew I wanted to be an actor but I also knew that an actor's life style is up-and-down constant auditions and a rollercoaster of Unknowing was there a way to be an actor and take more control of my life one day in a bookstore I saw the success principles by Jack Canfield on a shelf the book seemed to say to me hey Romeo come on over here the book was thick kind of intimidating but the subtitle attracted me how to get from where you are to where you want to be once I was home I immerse myself in it I highlighted pages wrote all over it I've read that book so many times that the cover is falling off reading Jack's words felt like a dad talking to me he taught me to open my mind to all possibilities and to welcome risks some of the ideas in Jack's book I'd read before like taking a hundred percent responsibility for our lives but it always set those books and the exercises in them aside thinking I'll do it later I'll do it later but Jack broke things down in a simple way that made me want to do everything right now because I was focusing on the whole acting scene auditioning and teaching acting the story in the book about Jim Carrey's experience with visualization and goal-setting fascinated me in 1990 before Jim was famous he used to drive his old car at Mulholland Drive and say to himself directors want to work with me I'm going to be a successful actor he even wrote himself a ten million dollar check for acting services rendered and dated it for Thanksgiving 1995 he carried that check around in his wallet for years the crazy thing is it worked by 1995 he was making 20 million dollars per picture he got what he wanted now one of the exercises in the success principles involves writing a list of 101 goals for one of mine I said I wanted to meet and work with Jim Carrey day after day I held that idea in my mind really picturing myself working with Jim Carrey a week or two after that I got a call to be an extra on Jim Carrey's movie that number 23 I thought okay how cool is that now working as an extra you're in the background and you don't communicate with the actors of the directors new actors do this as part of the process for getting into the Screen Actors Guild now one scene I was a college student sitting in a classroom and after 5 or 10 minutes one of the assistant directors told everyone to get off the set so they could make some changes a lot of the actors went to the food services room where they had snacks and drinks we were all talking asking each other questions like where are you from how long have you been acting who's your agent when Jim Carrey walked through the door everyone was poking everyone else wants me it's him it's Jim Carrey that was trying to keep my cool but I was thinking oh my gosh it's Jim Carrey whoa this stuff works now Jim walked over to the buffet table and was getting some tea but nobody approached him we weren't supposed to a few minutes later the assistant director called us all back to the set everyone left except for Jim and me this was my chance I went right up to him and said hi I'm Romeo he said I'm Jim and I said I know then I told him I just read a story about him and visualization and could he please tell me a bit more about it he said you know what Romeo it works I tell people that if it could work for me it can work for anybody I told him I read about the ten million dollar check and that I did the same thing for myself he said really he felt good that his story inspired me after that whenever we had a break on set Jim and I would talk about the Super Bowl or something just joking around it was fun to be on a first-name basis with one of my heroes but more than that it was exciting to know firsthand that visualization really does work I had friends who toured his actors and so I made that my next goal soon I had the chance to do just that working in an educational theatre program for kids all over California that focused on violence prevention and intelligent decision-making after doing that for a while I thought you know I like what I'm doing but I know my talent and words can have an even bigger impact I want to do this nationally it was time for a new goal I set my sights on working as a trainer with an organization called challenge day which is recognized internationally as being one of the top programs for celebrating kids and inspiring them to find their place in the world I went full throttle goal setting visualization affirmations applying all the stuff I learned from Jack to getting this new position I auditioned and was selected to be one of five new leaders to present programs in high schools all over North America success for the last two years I've been flying from city to city two small towns and suburbs across the US and Canada elevating entertaining and empowering young people it's an experience I never get tired of I also wrote an inspirational one-man show and it performed it in New York San Francisco Las Vegas and Colorado this work on a national level has taken me to the global level a few months ago I gave my first TEDx talk in Chennai India and from that TEDx opportunity I've received an invitation to return to India this time to do a college tour as well as do trainings in the Ukraine and the Philippines and this is just the beginning all this came from a few simple seeds that Jack Canfield planted now in between all my travels I'm back at my Community College teaching the same acting class that I first took and I'm also trying to instill in my students the success principles that I've learned I remind them that it's okay to fail they just have to get right back up and keep going what's important is that you go big everything you want in life is just outside your comfort zone then I say hey do you want to hear a story about Jim Carrey end of story now here's your homework for you to complete after watching this video pick your most important goal and then close your eyes and create a visual movie in your mind of that goal being realized just like Jim Carrey did and see yourself living that dreams see it from the inside of you looking out through your eyes at what you would be seeing such as someone handing you a large bonus check or holding your newly published book in your hand or walking up to your dream car reaching out opening the door getting inside starting the car and feeling the thrill of the car accelerating from zero to 60 miles per hour and remember to add to the sound you would be hearing and then feel the feelings you'll be feeling if you'd already achieved it so make sure to close your eyes and visualize the same movie twice a day every day for a minimum of 60 days and then take a moment to tell me in the comments below what goal you have chosen to visualize again thank you for watching and remember nothing changes for the better until you do
