[Music] yeah we're doing this version it fixes the controls [Music] so there might be a little crust yeah the music can get a little bit shrill yeah you can't turn your 3d on chat that's weird so i'm streaming this because it's also the 35th anniversary of kid icarus alongside zelda and metroid and i feel like kid icarus needs a little bit of love too i was going to stream this a couple weeks ago but we're going to do it now now this version is actually really good oh let me get rid of that first player there jesus these sound effects why is it like this so we're gonna do uh custom control mode which just like it makes it easier to platform so the 3ds version of this game is basically just a couple backgrounds like that volcano uh the music and sound of the sound effects hurt that's the one problem [Music] i wonder if there's a i mean this game always had a little bit of rough audio i wonder if there's a way to make it not sound awful well this turned into a mess very quickly i didn't think i would have to stream my 3ds anytime soon [ __ ] [Music] no i prepped enough to have 3ds on citra or rather 3ds kid icarus on citra that was the prep yeah the kid icarus 45th anniversary maybe um i'll be 45 as well maybe by then someone will actually like do an interesting uh hack for this game oh what happened oh no that's weird just this once chat just this once i need to go in here so i could kill the noses [Music] but yeah i really liked this game growing up i mean this to me was just another of the big nintendo franchises until you know it wasn't but i i really thought that they were setting this up as a big thing and um then the super nintendo came and went and there was no kid icarus and then n64 came and went and there was no kid icarus and then gamecube came and went and i was like oh that series is just done [Music] but then uprising was like magnificent hell yeah slow down actually saved me so this is a gamble game watch let me show you just show it so i can show you how it works so now you know how it works if you um if you get the little reaper dude you don't get any of this cool stuff [Music] so you have to you know get all of them so okay i've i've said this before but this is a game that gets easier as you go because the levels get less awful [Music] these vertical levels are a nightmare but you know there's some dungeons in this game it just gets um a lot more manageable later and then you get upgrades [Music] goofy ass music but partially i'm streaming this because you know one day i hope we get a new kid of course game i mean i don't think sakurai would do another one but i kind of wish he would if dude was perfectly suited for that series or even a port to the switch a port to the switch with gyro controls would be fantastic kid icarus trilogy you know they could just remaster the game boy game with some slightly better visuals they could get the 3ds version of this and then they can do an uprising port and they would have i think it would sell at least 10. [Music] so [Music] these hearts are actually money so early on i think um you collect a bunch of hearts and then later you can spend it on stuff these actually if i remember correctly these have predictable patterns so if you stand in one spot you can usually just live and take your time oh man okay i got it screen wrap around was very innovative [Music] whoa okay [Music] what do you say try buying from me i don't have enough the feather i think would have been good but yep there's this gummy controls i was talking about it's a little scummy in the air [Music] sometimes [Music] luckily the reapers can't really do much they can only summon their cohorts i like this game um also because there's an rpg like thing going on here [ __ ] oh man um you upgrade your equipment you upgrade your your bow i mean you'll see with the dungeons too the dungeons are basically what 2d zelda dungeon should have been or side scrolling zelda dungeons even though they're a little bit of a pain in the ass they have at least some stuff that isn't just combat actually it's kind of still mostly [Music] navigation but um i always had trouble with this game because the first couple levels were not good for me as young child i was like i don't know how to beat this game i cannot play this game but then once you get to like level two and three it's just everything gets so much better [Music] oh yeah if you fall off the screen from the bottom you just die that was a fun nes game mechanic [Music] one of the very best scroll the screen up go off screen death castlevania is is especially good at that vinnie do you think we're going to get any new nintendo announcements anytime soon i have become jaded and embittered and [ __ ] and i don't believe nintendo's even real like birds so i i don't know if listen i don't think we're gonna get anything anytime soon [Music] i know we're overdue for a direct we've been for a long time but i i don't i'm not banking on it we will get an um anniversary for zelda announcement that is for sure i don't think we're gonna get it this month but it would be cool if we got an anniversary collection for zelda and metroid and some new games i i haven't thought of new games in a long time but it would be great to get a new game [Music] but i just i feel like the nintendo directs aren't going to be happening i think they're just going to stagger their announcements like they did the last year have you seen the remake of pigeon simulator i have [Music] there's pigeons with big [ __ ] muscles yeah it's really weird [Music] um i can afford the feather chat remind me does anyone remember uh is this just consumable stuff these are all consumables right prevents death on fall and then that bottle is health um [Music] feather for higher jump save for a barrel yeah i'll just save the money most of it at least oh no no no no no no [Music] i'm not taking that death because again this is the stuff that the 3ds version fixes have to be the judge of my own fairness of deaths and i'm sorry chad i know that's really annoying but you get locked into sometimes you can turn while you're in the air many other times though you get stuck and locked until halfway through the jump [Music] i'm gonna try not to abuse the rewind feature even though i did three times already but let's not make it four times if i don't have to vinnie is it possible to beat this some say it is possible [Music] some say you can actually finish this game [Music] glad you came pit here take this i am now green pit so i have a better those are just [ __ ] better arrows more powerful [Music] nice nice so hammers you want for dungeons [Music] can't use hammers yet [Music] but they're very good in dungeons [Music] okay birthday candle [Music] right you have to get the hearts otherwise they they disappear hey there how you doing white great well i get to keep all the hearts that i had up until this point and i get full health so it's probably a good idea to die right at the beginning anyway it's a very good idea [Music] once you start getting some upgrades the levels later on just become a joke [Music] and once you get the credit card oh man credit card is sick [Music] damn noses [Music] but you know chat back in my day we would boot up the games just for the joy of playing the game and not because we needed to earn the last achievement that's we're still doing achievements right these days [Music] back in my day when the game was the game but you know i only had like a dozen games at one point so i'd be booting up kid icarus every now and then [Music] not that there was anything i hadn't seen not that there was anything i hadn't [Music] seen [Music] but i just wanted to i wanted to play again sometimes so kid icarus is one of those games metroid zelda mario 3. much much mario 3. [Music] godzilla i i think i rented that game there's another monster game where you were like a little dude chad has told me the name of this game a million times and i just don't remember it there's like a monster game you're a little dude and you're getting like a monster vehicle of some kind no you you had like two distinct sections rampage like i say monster like a godzilla like beast which still be under warranty it's not rampage chat king of monsters um maybe i don't know i had only rented it it was a tough game though dino wars there you go once again chad has told me for the fifth time or more that the name of this game was dino wars i was going through a dinosaur kick and i wanted dinosaur game and so what better than a game with the title dino wars through blockbuster video i was able to learn about games that i didn't know existed before i saw uh sign up to magazines [Music] oh man which path which [Music] that's cool we'll just take that path [Music] all right those things are scummy those are like spikes oh yeah sure did i ever play the game boy kid icarus i did so i have that um i don't remember much of it i don't remember if it was better than this but it might have been a little bit more streamlined [Music] it was very similar [Music] it was easier [Music] so i had to accept my fate chat before i had to i did the cheesy rewind i can't i can't keep and thus i pronounced kid icarus as kitakaris for years [Music] even watching the captain in television program i still pronounced it incorrectly i was like no they're wrong my cousin could never be so i'm gonna try to deal with it here just that one snake just i just wanted to rewind that one snake of damage [Music] it's just those damn spiders and then like these enemies that just come from the ground what the [ __ ] were they thinking when they did the difficulty the difficulty curve of this [Music] game yes [Music] a vine gn yeah they do a lot of damage those little [ __ ] do not mess around [Music] you could also just grind in this game by killing every snake i'm gonna keep that [Music] do [Music] [ __ ] spider time no health time [Music] beep love kid icarus the cb cbt difficulty in the 80s and 90s was for nintendo to avoid rentals nintendo hated rentals i don't get it so people wouldn't rent hard games so they couldn't beat them during a rental [Music] so then you rent it again the better anti-rental is making games longer [Music] so that you couldn't beat it in one rental [Music] but if you think about it this had a password system so you could just rent it again and re-enter the password same for metroid it was when the battery um saves were introduced to the cartridges that was a good anti-rental feature because then you'd have to hope that you got the same rental which sometimes i did i got like i think it was mario rpg that i may have gotten the same cartridge matt rpg [Music] it had to happen it had to happen [Music] the developers awada explained that the developers got so good at the games that they had to make it harder for themselves yeah that happens that's why a lot of rom hacks have that patented rom hack difficulty as we call it and play testing is essential [Music] but yeah you did eventually get good like at one point i was able to play kid icarus with not too many problems make sure it was still tough but [Music] i could do it and i was young too i mean but then again all i did was play the game you know we back in my day we would play this game for four hours at a time that's that's a lot better that was a really really [ __ ] up spawn for that spider [Music] this is a lovely spawn of death nope can you endure this harsh training [Music] oh yeah no we'll [ __ ] you first of all [ __ ] you [Music] there was a way to do this where you could just point up and shoot and not take any damage harsh training [Music] [ __ ] panels just fall at you over and over and over again i'm i'm sorry chad i'm not doing that level nasty does not [ __ ] around with its difficulty i just keep remembering like the warm fuzzy feelings of later on in the game when things get easier and it becomes more uh balanced [Music] yeah so you don't want to get hit with the eggplants at all [Music] so you can't attack while you're an eggplant all you can do is [ __ ] suffer [Music] all right great [Music] i hate those damn eggplant wizards chat hate them [Music] and somehow they became a major recurring character in the captain and television program mental they were not they weren't they weren't really in anything else only in this one back [Music] how golden i delivered nintendo did this with both kid icarus and metroid the whole short reach thing and then you upgrade your reach [Music] old games can deliver without nostalgia oh yeah i mean i played earthbound that game is pretty damn old and it delivered 100 i had no nostalgia for that game in fact the odds were stacked against it because when i was a kid i thought the cover was weird and that it was strange that you were playing as a child with a baseball bat and not a knight with a sword so the the game more than delivered it it pulped me wrong i don't know why i said actor playing patrick stewart um playing his character picard and um he did a pretty good job [Music] and that was a really cool deep fake speaking of looked better than luke skywalker no i did you see that um collider did uh a deep fake loop of that scene so there's a video on youtube of collider doing their very own deep fake and they had one of their employees one of their co-workers dress up like luke who had a similar chin structure kind of and then they did it and you know what it was weird [Music] corridor not collider corridor why'd i say collider same thing collider call the door my bad everybody corridor but they were both weird like i don't think the technology is there yet for even a bunch of nerds who are really good with tech like uh corridor but i will say some of it looked genuinely better and uh i talked about this in my mandalorian review i think the cat is out of the bag so here's what i'll say i really hope [Music] we can find a way to make that work i say we as humans because that character trying to portray emotion it just was weird even hamel commented on corridor's take on the scene it was good again it wasn't perfect but it was good it's just a matter of using a combination of maybe deep fake in 3d getting a really good actor who can play the role or you just cast sebastian stan and that's good i mean i say that knowing damn well that a lot of people did not like alden ehrenreich's han solo but i i thought he did a really good job he made the character his own it wasn't him that was the problem with solo which solo i think is actually pretty good at times i liked a lot of it um but yeah i mean he did all right it's just you know like jay said how the [ __ ] do you replace 80s harrison ford you don't you can't sebastian stan looks a little bit like mark hamill and i think he could probably do a good job with the character but it's never going to be luke skywalker the way we grew up with him and we have to move past that because actors don't live forever and then they age and i know it sucks to say that but if you want more of that either do an animated version or do we get so good with 3d that it's like virtually indistinguishable i don't know um hard to say [Music] older me is is like just recast younger me cool link um younger me would have said it's not luke skywalker unless it's exactly mark hamill and now i'm not so sure [Music] at that point i may as well just get this [Music] honestly as an actor it's kind of scary because at some point will acting be replaced by three replicas of actors instead of hiring actors anymore says a chat member well [Music] i'm interested in your insight given that's your profession but i think i know where you're going with it already no i don't think actors can be replaced i think the most talented the most talented designer is still going to need a reference point and i think you're always going to need performances behind characters whether it be voice acting or you know like andy circus as the monkey or galcom andy circus gollum without andy circus would have been awful he's the reason that you can go back and watch gollum and it still works i mean the cg is actually really good for its time but andy circus imbued that performance with life and i feel like that's a really difficult thing to do [Music] even today so yeah i don't i don't think the actors are going anywhere i think the technology is is going to mean that some legacy performances are always going to be legacy and you're going to have certain franchises resurrecting you know actors a lot um especially for franchises like star wars where the fan base is is let's say passionate and probably marvel as well [Music] but hell they recast the star trek cast and and people love that cast and i do too the original you know kirk spock mccoy i thought um just about everyone was good sure quinto as spock was not the spock that we knew but he did a good job and he channeled some of that chris pine was a really good kirk the chemistry with the cast was pretty good it could have been better i just wish they had better scripts i wish they had more to do than save the universe from god devices and play beastie boys and i like beastie boys but uh yeah i again and carl urban was fantastic as well you can recast iconic roles i think you can do it [Music] rogue one um is an example of throwing lots of money at a problem and still not accomplishing tarkin is distracting it's almost there but it's still distracting and then when carrie fisher pops up at the end i'm just it it takes me out of it really bad i can you know go back into it i can be like all right well you know whatever i mean we we grew up with jar jar so but it's uh it's weird it's just weird [Music] rogue one was okay i like rogue one for its um video gaminess it's just the the cg tarkin and leia are are pretty rough anyway here we go another dungeon wait a second you don't get your weapons in dungeons [Music] what combination of deep fake and cg could work and an actual human who can do a good performance i don't know how they got luke's voice right like it really could mark hamill i know he's a talented voice actor but could he sound that young there had to be something else going on there too [Music] because he there's a video of mark hamill doing young luke in some star wars cartoon for the disney channel a couple years ago and he still sounds like old hamel [Music] so i don't know i mean maybe there's like some audio trickery you can do but that was really good the voice was perfect [Music] it's just that mouth when it moved and the cold dead eyes black is cold but i really don't know if they could have gotten that any better with current technology like i said deep fake as well as cg [Music] perhaps [Music] they used a voice actor who portrays luke in the games see now that's what i thought honestly um but i wonder i wonder about that because mark hamill apparently said he he did the role he was there on set they said he was there so what did he do if that's the case [Music] this whole reviving dead actors thing though is is weird [Music] no no not mark ham i'm talking about really does uh but i still i still do like it i'm i'm not unhappy that i'm streaming it i'm actually really always happy to revisit kid icarus it's just that kid icarus uprising is incredible to be fair it does seem better than most nes games yeah i mean i i kind of i feel like my library of nes games is pretty good like going through my old cartridges i was like you know what there's some great nes games that hold up pretty well um and then yeah the gotcha game that i have it's called gotcha it's not got g-a-c-h-a it's g-o-t-c-h-a oh that's the rod i have a shield now um but yeah to be continued there's a couple really shitty nes games that i own but most of my collection i'm pretty happy with i told your mummer i'd get you home we're gonna save here uh chat remember remember what do i have here i have a save from 2010. huh chat 7 11 2010 it doesn't work all right never mind so uh yeah okay um uh six and seven i will save it too that's kid icarus um one more stream of it i don't love that i'm rewinding but i also don't love having my time wasted we'd still be on world one if it wasn't for the [ __ ] rewinds but it was fun more soon and the game does get easier as you go along more upgrades more health it's nice
