Alex it's out I'm here early is [ __ ] this is like what 145 about that yeah yeah it's crazy it's here and this is the one game that could make me not play animal crossing at this time here are those spectator options so I'm gonna get the HUD on medium camera smoothing on medium spectator I write and we're gonna begin shortly welcome to the early stream I've been waiting many many years I'm gonna keep the subtitles off for immersion purposes for now just to see what that's gonna be like ultra fidelity please thank you and before we begin hi everybody once again welcome to the early stream I got my VR on I'm gonna be streaming later to Animal Crossing we'll be back maybe doom will be here as well I am just streaming a whole lot lately I can't help it I guess it's kind of a good problem to have I've been waiting so long for a new half life but I'm I'm just I'm so excited I have a VR I've had it for a bit and I like VR because the index is wonderful and steam VR is very good valve has done a very good job at you know doing VR correctly okay let me get into position here and I'm very very excited to see what half-life Alex can bring to the table okay I'm in position everybody how are you doing you can I got a better chat thing now you can you can see me everything's good I'm still using OVR toolkit I'm just doing a different type of thing with it even though it kind of goes at spectator mode so if I look at the back of my hand that means I'm looking at the chat frame rate is slightly crusty I can fix that once we get in game I think other streamers are having VR issues your voice is muffled but not sure why because I'm using my VR headset is this the same general quality as my other VR streams your voice is fine okay it's just I'm using a different microphone so that's why it's the index microphone I'm gonna start game I'm gonna try a normal difficulty movement blink shift continuous continuous hand I'm gonna do blink weapon hand right hand here we go what definitely works for me right now Chad how are we doing frame rates are okay they look good for me in in VR but Pidgeon it's a little crusty let's see yeah I see the crust I also have cameras was a way I could enter I could minimize the window size spectator mode that would probably fix it yeah it does look crusty on my monitor I'm not a fan of that chat technology you can interact with a lot of stuff compared to other vrf blade movement is normal same for the combine patrols how's it going in the stockyard animations look so good Rhys Darby mate I'm here oh also I started to combine moving supplies into the quarantine zone that place has been deserted for years would you terrific what an amazing way to start a game want to get one last look because this is gorgeous punch the window nope yeah the pace of VR is a lot slower it gives you a chance of like check out everything one little thing at a time press and hold to toggle game menu okay um the frames should be better indoors right I guess we're still getting across valve please fix any other no subtitles yeah there's subtitles I was gonna leave them off just for immersion purposes but I think I'm want to you know I don't mind leaving them on oh look a garbage bag em can't interact with garbage this is yeah this is the best VR experience I think I've had yet at least tell you that much just my limited I mean super hot VR was like the thing that sold me on it even further chat I felt real fear as that happened that's the first time that's happened in a videogame in a long [ __ ] time as that happened it freaked me the [ __ ] out oh [ __ ] it's a what are these the snark there you go smart food so is this like yeah water flavor it's just water bars sustenance so this is how people eat at city 17 Jesus I hope you don't mind me just exploring and like soaking in the world chat give me a second here so so let me get a little closer to this oh so that's what they do when you are not supposed to see stuff I was wondering how they would handle that this video equipment is [ __ ] terrible and again it is city 17 see that thing what is that thing put your hand in front of the lens it works [ __ ] just kidding you'd be hearing that a lot also hello fellow valve employees I to work at route I don't I'm assuming valves gonna be trolling twitch and looking around at various streams though I doubt they would necessarily come to mind but um there's a way to fix the frame rates in spectator mode that would be or at least up them a little bit that would be great or to minimize the window not minimize a window it and then it could be good but this is already amazing so far TV stuff well my hand all over the TV my fake real hand people yeah those subtitles are not I'm sorry I don't I don't like them it just took me out of the game sorry child I'm getting rid of subtitles this is not for your benefit but for mine I'll raise volume on the voices see what I can do ah any other game you know I would leave subtitles on but uh-huh I've got a I've got telescope all right give me a second boy the world looks real [ __ ] weird these days I like the throwing in this game way better than superhot yeah they got the reactor easy peasy I put it back the city house right now to me dad oh my god chatting like this is cool as [ __ ] I'm sure you're enjoying watching again with the index I'm a little freaked out I am a little freaked out because I this is the most immersive game I've ever played at this point that's very hyperbolic give me like a week to let this decompress but right now really good just the area that was yeah what is it this doesn't seem like a routine sweep here sure everything was okay 100% keep your head down the Beast part you know I think I know chat I think I mode is actually really good it smooths out my head movements that's what Valve tweeted about the other day like as I look around like a med [ __ ] you can you can actually see it a little bit better on your end because it smoothes it out so that is something that I think every VR game should have this point forward that's a really really nice innovation in this department I say that as someone who's owned VR for less than two weeks peels here goddamn cable keeps getting in my way Chad I'm gonna try smooth movement I might end up giving myself um you know vomit sickness but we'll see it says movement blink shift teleport with fast linear movement move continuously based on your head orientation [Music] yeah it's weird it's good then he'd do the last option what's goodbye bread could use and then yeah they're gonna kill her Oh God but the good news is we've got something they don't which is my plan to get him back great let's hear it now pretty soon they're gonna realize that your dad cleaners lab all over again out the back through the yard its decommissioned but I think I can hack into its controls oh and get yourself a pair of Russell's on the way out Restless the gloves Alex you know the gravity clothes I have a few sits through there you can calibrate them out by the ship got it we can do this Alex you got that didn't do the complete we can do it was we gonna do it yeah we are we're gonna do it nice everything all the way yeah you can see everything - oh no by then it's much too late I've seen everything uh yeah it's Kleiner's lab all over again I love that I love that Rhys Darby is gonna be the guy guiding me through this game he is literally one of my favorite people with voices on this planet nice hat you got there huh again chat it's it's again one thing to watch me play this game it's another thing entirely to actually be in the game this really is the best pitch the best sales pitch for VR I've ever seen and I've only I haven't even shot a single bullet yet Blanc it's really it's really cute this would be in city 17 Oh Russell is not happy about this well I'm gonna get a pair of Russell's now chat Vinnie it would be even better if you walked around normally instead of teleporting everywhere I know you can walk along normally that's one of the options I am not experienced in VR some people can handle it I cannot so I get it understandable I'm gonna try one more time but this [ __ ] is it's hard to expect miss at its finest and it's hard to explain the feeling let me back in No I made my stomach drop a little bit apparently this is something you can get used to this should be a bunch of junk down there I aim at something with your hand open yep you're tethered now close your hand registered now flick your wrist to bring it in tension target it close your hand you've got just a little flick of the wrist okay get it try again yep you can't make a grip you're on it well one more time registered now flick your wrist to bring it in just like that it works really well Russell really [ __ ] I got the gun there you go alright this is really [ __ ] cool okay this is good because I can't let go of the gun you know what I mean like I was dropping the gun all over the place it compound in this not so much I love these gravity who loves so much by the way you just have to hit the trigger pull back and catch really intuitive far so far it's not too bad it's smooth enough that the movement seems should have looked at that map a little bit more the quarantine zone Wow easy joke there I can still teleport by the way yeah what happened it's jammed when the combine shut down the quarantine zone there must have tightened security which means yeah you're nowhere near Fairview Junction you're just outside the koozie and this is as far as we get by train good I'm not sure I'm used to Alex's new voice actress kind of miss Merle Dandridge but maybe I'll get used to it probably not a one often not doubt it oh my god that VR games that I've tried it with is anything special so maybe maybe I can play some of the game like this or most of it we'll see three shots yeah it's half-life alright chat do you have a HUD you get to see the HUD right okay I don't have that that's for you that's for your benefit I know your immersion might be not as good because I'm sitting but I definitely want to sit every now and then because I am lazy so you know that's that's something that you're just going to deal with lucky break for me really honestly it's a miracle you and your dad go down - left oh right I like this I like haven't seen all of VR I've only done a couple things vini turn on seated mode where do you see seated mode Chet remember I adjust crouch stand crotch instant hybrid behavior ouch our action only stand is disabled I'm not doing subtitles chat I know there's a lot of people here that aren't like usually here for the streams but I'm not doing subtitles I tried it it took me it right out of the [ __ ] game it was Oz menu height is there a way to enable subtitles only for spectator mode no that would be a good option valve if you're watching please Civil War in chat I'm sure there's other people streaming this again if I look at the back of my hand I'm looking at the chat you can't see it but I have the chat paste it on there I'm gonna try this try accessibility preferences maybe movement continuous no there's no other options here accessibility height adjusts no that's the same thing I don't know listen I will be standing at some point I think you're just gonna have to deal Darby wrote this himself but maybe he didn't that's just valve writing what valve writing for Rhys Darby is amazing it's exactly what I wanted how the [ __ ] is Alex getting through that without getting severely injured oh that's how you could just do this oh that's amazing that's so cool major lacerations detected don't like to play doom that there is a floppy disk we used to store information on them with magnets if you can believe it specifically 2 micrometers magnetic iron oxide 3 micrometers barium ferrite 1.2 so Russell presumably has all of my streams 50 free games 4 pounds 95 pence it really got all of them including this one which is pretty [ __ ] weird but that in my wrists real quick I just like exploring like taking my time looking around like this game was expertly designed specifically for jackholes like me that liked to explore their environment and take in all the details fully this is great was their health charging station yeah um I don't need it could have released that would have prevented me from doing animal crossing as soon as I woke up only one and it was a new [ __ ] half-life game what is happening in this world what is this possibly ever have like I'm not getting VR sick it's just every now and then I'll lean a certain direction I'm like I'm not moving at all but it's I feel good I got used to it I mean it doesn't hurt that the index is really really good has a lot of this game has a lot of optimization for that the response time on the index is amazing and also the fact that I've been playing VR for about a week and a half now has been very helpful so I'm ready [Applause] [Music] another good thing is moving in the direction where you're facing like just having you know forward be where you're facing is incredible that's another feature like compound does not have that and it's really good yo-ho I believe this is the hallway leading to Hideo Kojima's office if I'm not mistaken got the [ __ ] heart Direction is nice bullet reservoir would be even better ten additional bullets I could save up for burst fire three-shot bursts and single fire I'm gonna save up I like that you can upgrade your weapons like half-life I think benefits from that pretty nicely oof this is a ladder here anything down here No I'm literally storing a giant bug in my wrist that's nice how many bells you think you could sell that for that particular bug probably even a little bit more than a tarantula oh okay that was trippy do it that seems like death don't think I want to go there and again it's just here right so which incredible what was it going what's going flashlights that way shotgun for this one also considering you will never really get the full feeling of holding a gun with two hands like this because it's just two unconnected things like it's all wacky a [ __ ] shotgun that you can hold with one hand makes so much more sense of course you can stabilize it a little bit like this that's cool but I think it's smart to limit the weapon selection to just one handers modified one handers unless you use the we attachment correct fumble oh thank god good work whoa a long voice the king crabs I really like this flashlight attachment convenient it's cool it looks amazing again I've said this several times today and I say it one more time particularly right now watching this on my stream is one thing playing it with an index is a completely different experience it's that this is fine this is fine it's really dark breast yeah can you just talk about what about anything literally anything well I really well if this was just first-person shooter a regular game it would still be good but this game would not exist if not for VR it's it's too specific to the medium and playing it you really you really feel that just get me out of these [ __ ] caves man look I was a loading screen shape I'm gonna sit how long have I been streaming I don't even know I've lost track of time two hours totally lost track of time yeah I'm gonna go sit for a little bit I want to play a little bit more at least because this game is is very hard to put down I'm feeling slightly VR fatigue but not too bad like definitely still could keep going and I feel pretty good even with the smooth movement but yeah yeah I just I want to keep playing because this is I've never had an experience like this before I don't closed VR and the microphone instantly turned off okay so let me give you some impressions real quick what I was saying before I realized I was muted is on some level this reminds me of the first time i played mario 64 not completely but there's enough new things that really make me um like feel like this is something new this destroys the illusion for me that VR is a gimmick and i still don't think the tech is 100% there but it's close enough this is the best implementation of VR i've I've seen yet and granted I haven't seen a ton the game feels like half life it's completely immersive and with the index it's just incredible I don't really know how else to say it yeah valve nailed it they did a really good job with this and I have minimal complaints I love playing this game and I really feel like I'm in city 17 for better or worse so yeah I definitely enjoyed this experience was it worth the thousand dollars for the index for me that's you know I save up a lot of money and I was saving up to buy this thing for a while anyway so the fact that I was able to get one I feel very happy and lucky I'm able to do that so this game complements it nicely I would say it's not worth it for one game but the other VR I've played like superhot and you know all the VR stuff I showed on stream makes this feel like a worthwhile purchase but this is as I said earlier this is the best reason to own VR yet and I do not feel buyer's remorse at all vini do you feel any VR sickness not really um honestly I feel pretty good I feel a little like just a little fatigued on some level because I'm still so new to VR but I'm looking around the world I don't feel like anything's fake which is it which is good and again I've done VR streams a couple times by now so that's we helped but I feel like you know after the first week or two of VR its it definitely gets easy I think yeah I feel really good especially with smooth smooth movement I'm surprised at how well and easily I adapted to to that so I don't really have disassociation at the moment vini more of it tonight no the rift or the vibe I'm using the valve index I don't I haven't used the vibe or or the rift I used was five years ago so no I'm not gonna play this I'm not gonna play this again tonight but I'm probably going to stream it more tomorrow I'd say there's a good chance I'd check it out tomorrow later on tonight though Animal Crossing and also do maternal so I'll be back for more streams but I think I'm gonna need a day for half life Alex but I am really enjoying this and I can't wait to play more of it so I hope this has been watchable I hope you've enjoyed watching it again it's not the same experience but I hope at least you're getting you know some secondhand enjoyment for those that can't afford VR again I'm a very lucky person and I'm able to do this and I'm happy I guess I can share it a little bit because it's it's genuinely good the writing is funny the game itself is really well designed outside of all the other stuff and it's really good to play a half-life game again does not feel cheap does not feel skimped out on the quality is very high so yeah I'm enjoying it very much so that I kind of wish you could have turned on subtitles for us I'm sorry that's the one compromise I won't make for this particular game so sorry about that guys all right I'm done does it feel like half life it does then he what's your favorite non half life full campaign VR game right now I've only I've streamed most of my VR experiences and super hot super hot VR is probably my favorite so far but I've only played a couple so I need to check out more I know there's other really good VR and I'd be down to check it out when I'm done with half-life Alex but clearly half-life alex is the best VR game
