Hello, Today we are going to visit the Palace of Versailles together the gardens and Marie Antoinette's domain. Hi, I have just arrived in the city of Versailles at the "Versailles rive droite" station. It is about an hour from central Paris. And now it's a 15-minute walk to the palace. Everyone knows that the palace was built by... Jeanne D'arc! It takes a full day to visit the palace and its domain. Or even two days. At the entrance, do not miss the marble courtyard from the original palace built by Louis XIII in 1623. In these rooms you can see the evolution of the construction of the palace until today. On the first floor let’s go to the “Grand Appartement du Roi” with the style classic inspired by mythology. It’s divided into seven salons with different allegories. The most impressive is the Hercules salon with the largest painted ceiling in Europe. Then here is the famous Hall of Mirrors. It perfectly shows the power of absolute monarchy. It amazes visitors It amazes visitors with lights, 357 mirrors and the huge ceiling painted in part by Charles Le Brun. The King's bedroom. You can see Marie Antoinette's bedroom. It was through this door that she escaped on October 5, 1789 when the Parisian people invaded the castle. And you should plan time to visit the long gallery of battles inaugurated by Louis Philippe I in 1837. The enormous paintings cover fourteen centuries of French history. Choose well what day you go to Versailles. Because the gardens can be free or not. For example today is Wednesday and it’s free. One tip: visit the gardens at sunset because at the golden hour the castle is beautifully lit. Welcome to the gardens of Versailles. In the very geometric style called “Jardins à la française” (french garden) created by André Le Nôtre. He made the Tuileries Gardens too. here you can see a statue of Hercules. In these gardens you can feel like in the heart of greek mythology. There are more than 380 pieces of art. Remember to bring food and drinks. It's difficult to find anything in this huge place. Good bye little Sandwich. You can see the Apollo chariot. It’s one of the most important fountain in Versailles. Apollo was Louis XIV's favorite myth related to the sun. When it was built the most expensive part of Versailles wasn’t the palace but the real challenge was to install these fountains. I really recommend you to visit when the fountains are working. Saturday Sunday there are “the great musical waters”, Tuesday and Friday there are “the musical gardens” and Saturday evening “the great nocturnal waters". It’s a bit complicated, but you can figure out online. What a big fish. The fountain of Neptune The visit ends at the dragon’s fountain. From this place you can easily walk straight to the Grand Trianon. In Versailles, do not miss the Grand Trianon and the Marie-Antoinette’s domain. It’s very pretty to see. This is nice and much calmer than the palace. Look behind me there is no one. Grand Trianon was built by the architect Louis Le Vau at the request of Louis XIV. When he wanted to get away from the court. The domain suffered from degradations during the French Revolution. Napoleon Bonaparte initiated its restoration. In fact, he stayed there for a while. The interior and furnishings date from this period. Now I’m heading to Marie-Antoinette's domain. I can’t wait to be there. I like the “Pavillon Frais” (=fresh pavilon). This building built for Louis XV was a dining room where fresh produce from the vegetable garden was served. * Marie-Antoinette’s Theater. Behind me there is the “Petit Trianon”. Louis XVI gave it to Marie-Antoinette. It was her favorite stay. You can visit it. The Temple of Love, a magnificent antique rotunda with a belvedere. In the English garden designed by Marie-antoinette. What an old trail. *Marie-Antoinette’s cave. We're finally going to the Queen's village. This place was built around an artificial pool. It is a fake village inspired by the Norman style and has twelve houses including a mill, a farm and no details have been forgotten. Marie-Antoinette hoped to take refuge there to forget her status as queen. One negative point: it's hard to find your way there are no signs. I have been lost for some minutes. I can't find the exit. I saw only one closed door. I don’t want to spend the night in the queen’s village. If you're lost like me, the exit is next to the little trianon. This video about Versailles is now ending.
