Ventrac Flail Mower VS Tough Cut VS Finish Cut

hey matt here from beverage tractor and today i am with andy barone our ventrac territory rep and recently we've gotten a lot of questions about what mower should i pick when we go out on demos and just general questions from customers a lot of times with just trying to figure out what mower would best fit their application whether you're a contractor a homeowner a landscaper any of the above it can be a hard question to choose which mower best fits the application that you need ventrac offers several different mowers and today we're going to go over three of those options which is the flail mower the tough cut mower and the finish mower so what i want to do is andy's going to walk us through each of those mowers we're going to show you a couple of different cuts in those mowers and see which one best fits the application for your needs so stick around all right so what we're going to do is we're going to hook up each mower and i'm going to let andy kind of give us just a thorough walk around explain the different options on the mower heights of cut and then what applications are best used for that so andy if you don't mind let's hook up the flail mower we'll tip it up show people the bottom of it and then just give us a thorough walk-around of it that works good [Music] [Applause] [Music] so today we're going to go over the my 720 flail mower that we have here this is a fast cut flail mower we offer four different types of flail mowers we have the fast cut the fine cut both in 72 and 56 inch cut underneath this mower deck here is a y knife for the fast cut there's 72 different knives on this along with a big heavy duty roller for striping purposes this deck is going to keep that material underneath the mower deck so if you have a high traffic area that you're maintaining it's not going to throw material out which is really important for safety purposes i have in my hand here the duck bill knife that we use for the fine cut and the fine cut flail mower is really meant for grassy areas that are overgrown six to eight to ten weeks out that you're looking to maintain horse pastures stuff like that where the y or the fast cut is meant for heavier debris and is going to process that a little bit better as we work our way back on the mower deck here we have our height of cut adjustment on both sides of the mower deck which make it really easy to adjust the height of cut only takes about 30 seconds to adjust the height of cut on the mower deck the other nice thing about this mower deck is it moves with the contour of the ground so as you're cresting a hill it's not going to scalp the top of that hill because this deck has a lot of movement in it for that particular reason we also have a hydraulic flip up kit that you can add on to this mower deck that once you have that pin pulled you can go back and hit your hydraulic lever and it will automatically lift your mower deck up for you for ease of flipping it up and servicing it so we're going to show you here in a minute how this fast cut flail mower works in this [Music] application [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so as you can see here we just ran the fast cut flail mower back and forth in about three foot tall grass weeds and hay and you can see what type of material this turns the grass into it's it's chopped up pretty fine for what we had before and we were able to maintain about a two to three mile an hour uh run speed while we're doing that and uh it kind of gives you a perfect application for what this fast cut flail mower is meant for and next we're going to show you the tough cut in action in the same application [Music] so next we're going to go over the hq 680 which is our bush hog tough cut deck this one has the caster wheels installed on it which is an option as you can see underneath this deck you have a three blade system they're a flat blade so there's really no lift on this mower deck so if you're looking to cut finish grass with it it's not going to do a great job in that application it's more meant for thicker woodier material that you're mowing down once or twice a year the unique thing about this mower deck is both this middle blade and the blade on the right side of the deck if you're staring at it or the left side if you're sitting on it run clockwise the blade on the right side of the deck or left side if you're staring at it runs counterclockwise so as you're cutting that material or laying it down and you're also not throwing material out from underneath it which for safety reasons is pretty important it's a pretty easy deck to adjust the height of cut you have four bolts on each caster wheel and you have pins in the back of your hitch arms you adjust those according to your chart to get anywhere from three and a half to seven inches for your height of cut so all of our finished mower decks flip up including this tough cut deck this deck's been around for over 21 22 years now and is one of our best selling top selling mower decks we're going to show you here real quick compared to the fast cut flail mower what this tough cut deck will do in that same material [Music] so as you can see we just mowed two stripes with the hq 680 tough cut mower and the quality of cuts can be a little different than the flail mower it's going to mow it down just like the flail mower but it's not going to process it as well as the flail mower did as you can see here again with no lift being on the mower deck it is cutting it off but it's leaving long strands of grass and not processing it like that fine cut flail did which was much more grinded up than the tough cut did so we're going to show you here in a minute another application for this tough cut normally i tell customers the thicker the heavier the material is the better this bush hog does whereas the flail mower is more meant for your wide open grassy areas that you don't have a whole lot of smaller saplings and stuff like that and we're going to show you that here in one [Music] second [Music] so what you guys just saw there was what the tough cut mower is best at it's the best application for our tough cut mower you had slopes you had thick nasty vegetation that's been there for six to eight months that hasn't been mowed down and the tough cut really shines in those types of applications so it gives you a good opportunity to see what that tough cut's really good at [Music] so next we're going to go over the ms720 which is our 72 inch side discharge mower deck as you can see underneath it's got a three blade system also right now i have a high lift blade on the mower deck it also comes with a gator blade and or a low lift blade depending on what your application is don't get too worried about the grass here but the deck here is a pretty clean deck underneath so by that i mean we don't have a lot of nuts and bolts sticking out so it's got good airflow for good discharge of material and it's got a big discharge or roller on the rear of the mower deck for striping purposes this deck flips up like all of our other mower decks flip up you can also purchase the hydraulic flip up kit for this mower deck the height of cut is an easy adjustment on the left side of the mower deck here and you can adjust anywhere from one inch to five inches of uh height of cut so next we're going to show you how this finish mower does in that same application again we're not going to promote this mower deck in that application but we're going to just show you the differences in our three mower decks and go from there so in a second we're going to show you that [Music] as you can see here we just finished with the ms720 the 72 inch side discharge mower deck it is not going to leave a good quality cut with this material and that's kind of what this deck is not designed to do you can see the striping ability of this deck though in this application you can see some stringers left because there's just too much material for this miller deck to process in this application it did a decent job cutting it down it's going to cut it at the base and leave a pretty long rest of your grass area here but again that's not what this mower deck is designed for so as you can see we showed you the fast cut flail mower the tough cut mower and the finished mower this mower again is designed for your weekly application not for three to six month growth but it gives you a good idea what our mower decks can and cannot do we hope you enjoyed our video today obviously we went through three different mower decks in the same application the fast
