this is The Ultimate Guide to optimizing your FPS and decreasing input lag in Valerian what's going on guys Jakey here today I'm going to be running you guys through some optimizations that you guys can do inside of valerian and your windows in order to get more FPS out of your game and decrease input lag so let's start off by going in the range here and you can actually see if we go over to our video Tab and we go over to Stats if you scroll all the way down to input latency we want to turn on game to render latency here text only and you can see top left you can see that my input lag into Valerian right now is around three milliseconds so we want to work to reduce this number so you guys can check what yours is right now and then after all the steps in the video you guys can compare and see what you guys end up with at the end and if you guys got a decrease let me know in the comments I actually want to see I'm pretty curious so if you guys get a significant reduction in that number let me know in the comments with that being said let's get right into it here so we're going to start with our video settings inside of valorent so what we want to do is go over to our video tab and then go over to the general Tab and we want to make sure that our display mode is set to full screen so if you're playing ballerin and you want less input lag you always want to make sure that you're playing full screen instead of windowed full screen or windowed stay away from these you always want to make sure you're on full screen as for resolution I highly recommend that you play on your monitor's native resolution so if you have a 1080p monitor then make sure you're playing on 1080p so if you're playing on your native resolution you don't have to worry about aspect ratio methods so you don't have to worry about this if you're playing on Native next up we want to talk about limit FPS so I limit my FPS at 300 and it is true that the higher FPS you have the less input lag you'll have in game but honestly anything above 300 is not really that noticeable so I keep my FPS cap to 300 just to make sure that my computer isn't overworking itself and especially if you're on a laptop I highly recommend that you cap your FPS just to save on your laptop's battery life as well as make sure your laptop doesn't overheat next up this one is really important if you hover over this you can read what it does but this is only available for people with Nvidia graphics cards obviously Nvidia reflex low latency also if you have an Nvidia graphics card and you don't see this option that might just mean that your graphics card is too old and doesn't support it but if you do see this option make sure that you turn it on plus boost this will give you a FPS boost as well as reduce input lag so you just want to make sure that you have this set to on plus boost next up we're going to go over to the graphics quality Tab and we want to make sure that multi-threaded rendering is enabled again if you don't see this option it probably just means that your CPU does not support multi-threaded rendering so you don't have to worry about it but if you do see this option make sure that it is turned on next up for the max amount of FPS we want to make sure that all of our Graphics quality is set to low so material quality texture quality all of this make sure you set it to the lowest possible turn off vignette as well as vsync make sure these are both off anti-aliasing we want to set to none and then anisotropic fill filtering set to 1 as well I play on four just because my computer can handle it and all this does is make your skin look a little bit sharper on the lines so I like having better looking skins which is why I leave this at 4X everything below this improved Clarity all of this make sure that you turn all of it off one more thing we can do here this is for the people who have an Nvidia graphics card so if you have an Nvidia graphics card you want to make sure that you have GeForce experience installed and what we're going to do is we're going to open up GeForce experience here I have it in my taskbar you just right click it and click on GeForce experience and then you want to go into your settings and you want to scroll down until you see in-game overlay click on settings click done and then you want to go over to Performance click on performance and you can see here that it gives us a bunch of stats on our GPU like the temperature the clock everything like that what we want to do is we actually want to go down here to Performance Tuning and we want to enable automatic tuning and what this will do do is it will squeeze out any little bit of performance left on our graphics card it's basically an automatic overclocker so you just want to turn this on like that and then it will give you a little warning here so overclocking your GPU may cause your PC to become unstable so if you have a pretty modern GPU you don't have to worry about it this is just telling you that and then all you want to do is click on agree and continue also guys one more thing is if you don't use Nvidia shadowplay you want to make sure that instant replay is turned off so if you don't have any use for this make sure it's turned off because this does use a little bit of performance so if you don't use Nvidia Shadow play to like clip highlights or whatever then you can turn this option off and you can also turn off the in-game overlay and that will save you a little bit of performance alright guys now we're moving on to Windows optimizations starting off with system performance so what we want to do is we want to open up our control panel so you're going to open up your control panel and then you're going to type in system and then you're going to see system here and you're going to go down until you see view Advanced system settings we want to click on that and that will open the system properties here what we're going to do is we're just going to under performance we want to click on settings and then it should by default be on let Windows choose what's best for my computer we want to change this option to adjust for best performance and as you can see all of these get unticked and this will make some animations and your windows look worse um but this will improve performance and give you a FPS boost so it's really up to you but you want to choose adjust best performance and then click on apply alright next up we're going to optimize our Nvidia 3D settings again this is only if you have an Nvidia graphics card you want to right click on your desktop and then you want to go down to Nvidia control panel and this will load up we want to go to adjust image settings with preview by default it will be on let the 3D application decide we want to click on use my preference emphasizing and then as you can see right now it's set to Quality we want to drag this slider all the way to the left until it says performance and then all you want to do is just click on apply next up we're going to disable any Windows startup programs that are unnecessary so you want to open up your task manager I do do that by going down to my taskbar clicking task manager and that will open it up next up we want to go over to the startup Tab and as you can see here there's going to be a bunch of programs that start up with your windows and you're going to look through all of them and see which ones you don't want so for example if I don't want Spotify to start up with my computer then I would just click on disable and you want to make sure you disable all the ones that you don't use and only keep the ones that you use alright guys next up let's go over our power settings so again we want to open up our control panel and then type in power and we want to click on power options and as you can see here by default it should be on balanced we want to click the Show additional plans and we want to click on high performance so just click on high performance and that's all you need to do alright guys my next tip is to make sure that all of your drivers and windows is updated so if you go into your start menu just type updates and you want to make sure that you're always on the latest version of Windows as well as your drivers that's go that goes for your graphics card drivers you can go into GeForce experience click on drivers and hit check for updates and you want to make sure you're always on the latest driver and one thing that people Overlook a lot is actually their motherboard your motherboard actually has chipsets and bios updates that you need to keep up with so an easy way to check for Motherboard BIOS updates and stuff like that is just to Google the motherboard that you have so I have the b550 tomahawk I Google that and then I go to this page right here and you can see here that if I go to drivers and downloads I can see all of the bioses as well as the latest one so I'm currently on the latest bios and then if you go to driver you can also see uh of the chipset drivers if there's any new ones as well as audio drivers land drivers and stuff like that so just make sure that all of your windows drivers are up to date all right guys last but not least this tip is for people who are on older graphics cards so if you're on a more modern graphics card you don't really have to worry about this too much but basically what we're going to be doing is disabling Hardware acceleration and basically what Hardware acceleration does is it uses your graphase cards uh to make programs run smoother so if you're on an older graphics card this might affect your performance in-game so we want to make sure that we turn this off for any programs that offer it so immediately one program that comes to mind is Discord Discord actually has a hardware acceleration toggle and we want to access that by going into our Discord settings and then going over to Advanced and you can see here Hardware acceleration is on by default so if you have an older graphics card you can turn this off another program that has Hardware acceleration is Spotify so if we go into Spotify here and then we click on settings and we scroll all the way down you can see under compatibility enable Hardware acceleration you want to turn this off and another program that you might not know has Hardware acceleration is Google Chrome so if you actually click right here and then go into settings and inside of settings you want to click here and then go to system you can see here that you want to make sure that you turn off uh use Hardware acceleration as well as this so continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed you want to make sure that this is off because what this does is it lets extensions and stuff run in the background when your Google Chrome is closed so you always want to make sure that you turn this this off and then turn Hardware acceleration off again if you have an older graphics card and that's pretty much it guys that's how you optimize valorin for more FPS and the least amount of input lag let me know in the comments how much your input latency reduced by and if this video helps you out make sure you leave a like And subscribe and I will see you guys in the next one peace
