you got blood on the top yeah it'll come off when we it'll come off when we uh grab it hey gang it's paul welcome back to stud pack on our previous video you saw where we primed the walls sprayed the cabinets they came out great jordan just like glass and we also grouted the shower it came out beautifully and i saved a big thick piece of cardboard we're going to protect that while we tile the walls and then today we're actually going to tile the floor every project is different sometimes we do the walls first and the floors last on this one we decided to do the floors first and then we're going to build up off the floors to do our tub deck so i did my layout already let me walk you through it i'm going to come around you jordan so i started my layout by just pushing a tile against the curb now these are 12 inch by 24 tile so if i put the end of my tape measure against the curve and head towards the doorway over here see where 9 foot is so i would have a grout line somewhere around here and end up with a small piece of tile right here i don't want that i'd rather have a larger piece of towel here so in order to do that our first course right here is going to be six inches wide we'll just rip these in half and what that's going to do now i've got the tape hooked on my actual layout line see now we'll have a about a seven inch piece of towel here yeah that's better much better so now that that's the way i like it what i do is i go around to these other edges like right here i wouldn't want a thin piece of tile here so i can see my mark is here and i'm fine and then i come over here and i make sure that i don't have a thin piece here and i've already checked and we're good if i did have a thin piece here i would adjust my layout as much as i could somewhere you're gonna have a thin piece in this bathroom there's gonna be about a four inch strip back here behind the toilet it's fine we can look at that yep and then i would not want a thin piece under this toe kick nearly impossible to put it in there properly now that we have the layout done this way i want to get the layout done this way and if you watch our video where we pour the self leveling underlayment we are bound by this line right here in other words this is flat and then they're going to wrap down slightly so it's flush with this brand new wood floor it's probably only going to be an eighth quarter inch you'll never feel it but that's where we need a grout line so our layout's done our thin set is sleek and right it should be ready let's go inside and final mix it and we'll start laying these things [Music] so [Music] sweet all right it's looking good man that's our system so we're using tile leveling wedges there's plenty of systems out there the spindle type pick your own but it's a game changer once you use these you'll never go back to spacers again appreciate you guys looking out for me on my knees so i'm wearing my pro knee knee pads today these are custom made for the individual prone.com and see i'm pretty much wearing these out but you can send these in and they'll fix them for you we're gonna have to get you some studpack ones yeah there you go so it's working very well next we're gonna tackle this little ramp and when i say ramp it's an eighth of an inch a quarter of an inch you'll never feel it like we talked about it's just not flat no jordan's out on the saw i'm inside laying him and so you saw him going in and out that window he's a window warrior today yes sir every cut means two trips in and out the window if he messes up four trips so don't mess up right all right let's get this knocked out let's do it man all right all right gang got four rows done these self-leveling wedges make it really fast really flat we've got a lot of questions about the ramp a lot of comments about the ramp so let me show you what's happening so we've got our level on here and you can see how flat this is it's dead flat it is not rocking at all but i'm going to extend it past that ramp in there you see that so those last few sections of tile everything beyond this grout line is ramping down so it's flush with the wood in the bedroom but it's probably less than a quarter inch over 16 inches jordan what you think yeah but that came out great so we've got about half a bucket of thin set left i think we're gonna let's do one more row jordan and see where we stand let's do it all right [Music] all right guys we are out of thin set and out of daylight so we set this last tile and then tomorrow that'll give me a chance to kneel down on here and work that way but then i realized if this is here i'm not going to be able to slide this tile that has to be notched around this door in there because this is in the way so we're going to remove this and then put this tile in first and then put these down tomorrow tomorrow yes let's go we got to take this out now because let's pull it up what kind of coverage we're getting pretty good oh look at that but remember we didn't tap it down we didn't set it with our wedges true it's gonna be even better it is all right let's get this out of here clean this one up clean this floor and we'll see you tomorrow hey gang it's the next day our goal today is to finish this floor minimum minimum we can do it easy easy so the thin set is slaking while it's finishing we're going to pre-cut as many of these tiles as we can so let's head out to the saw and get that done [Music] alright again we finished the toilet area we worked our way out here it looks fantastic we took a break for lunch we were going to come back and mix up some more thinset to finish the floor we didn't want to mix up half a bag of thinset and then waste it we could have mixed up just enough for that but we want to keep tiling right right so we thought we'll do that and we'll use the rest on the tub deck so we took a little break from tiling and started doing some planning there's a lot going on right here so we're gonna break it down into three steps for you the first thing we had to decide on was our backsplash around the tub like that it's gonna be one tile high so the shower is eight feet tall and we have 12 inch tile so almost eight full tile but that means a grout joint right here at about the two foot line so these tile right here one above the two foot and one below the two foot would not line up with this one so we thought it was important that the backsplash tile continue across into the shower uninterrupted so that means we'll have a about a six inch row at the bottom and a six inch row at the top and we're fine with that on this application so the second thing we had to do was to determine the direction that we run the tile on the tub deck and we decided they should run in this direction the direction of the tub so that forced us to make a decision on the edge treatment so we had really four different options that we showed the owners we could do a mitered edge metal trim we actually have a bullnose sample here but in the end they decided that they like a nice modern edge like that and this is rectified tile so that'll make it easy what rectified means is that after a tile is fired it is ground see that edge right there it is ground to a precise straight edge and that helps us out absolutely so that's what we're gonna do just like that so we've got our laser set up right here and it's gonna establish this grout line there's going to be a grout line here on this side and one on that far corner we've got these two tiles already laid out for this corner so we're going to go out to the saw and cut them it took us a couple of hours to figure out every detail with the owners how we're going to wrap this how are we going to wrap the curve how we're going to treat this outside corner and these inside corners and the backsplash and this edge right here so all of those details we're going to show you as we tile we're not going to discuss them right now it's way too many but we are ready to cut these mix our thin set and start laying some tile let's get it done let's do it man ready gang got the floor done we'll have to wait a couple days for that extra tile to come in no problem we'll work on this we'll hit it hard in the meantime jordan got all these pre-cut so let's set these on the tub deck let's do it man alrighty gang we did as much as we could with the thin set we have it is so nice to tile standing up right what a difference that makes but now that we've got this done we can run our backsplash establish our pattern in the shower and get that done tomorrow when that when that's done that establishes our pattern for this and we'll be we'll be done with this thing oh so we're not even going to tell you what time it is but we'll be back tomorrow we will be and we'll see you then all right all right all right again it's the next day i got in here this morning i cleaned up our mess from last night i put the cardboard down to protect our shower floor because we're going to be working in here today i set up my laser i put up my plywood straight edges i rip these perfectly straight and it's going to establish a level row of tile all the way around the shower i screwed them to the framing yes i had to put a hole in the waterproofing but we'll repair that with some kerdi-fix injected into the holes and a piece of kerdi over the holes it'll be better than new so once this first row of tile is set on the plywood i have a known perfectly level row of tile that i can reference the top off of and the bottom off of if i were to rely on the floor and it's off just a little bit that error is going to multiply itself throughout this shower and throughout the tub deck so it's very important to start with a perfectly level line so we've got that established when i turn my laser on this morning i notice that these were perfectly flat but these three you can see they've sloped down that's what you get for working late at night so these are pretty easy to remove it's only been a few hours since we set them we're going to pull up these two i already did that one and just fix that because again we need a perfectly level line across here for our backsplash to sit on then we're going to remove our plastic wedges mix up some thinset and start getting this shower done let's do it man all [Music] right [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] alrighty again that's gonna be a wrap for this video we made huge progress today we got these two walls of the shower done our tub deck completed and the backsplash started so tomorrow we're gonna come in here finish the backsplash remove our boards patch the holes put in a full row cut in this row cut in the top and then all that's left is the curb and the front of this tub deck there's going to be a lot of intricate cuts we have this slope right here a little sliver of tile right here a tapered sliver right this angle so make sure you stay tuned for that video it'll be cool and these floors look sweet man look at that we buffed them out and mopped it so it looks real good and it was looking bigger in here i think with the towel it is it's kind of more roomy yeah interesting and i don't know if it's planned but this orange is the same as the schluter orange you think that was planned nah nah i mean there's only so many colors in the rainbow you know so if you liked the video be sure to smash that like button for us drop us a comment leave us a question and if you haven't subscribed we would sure appreciate that and we'll see you on the next one [Music]
