Using Photoshop's Generative Fill AI on TF2 Mercs!

I recently made a video where I used photoshop's new generator fill tool and a lot of you wanted me to make a sequel but I don't want to just repeat what I did before so instead of seeing how Photoshop generates TF2 Maps I want to see how it'll handle other things and in this video that's the TF2 mercenaries hopefully we'll get some cool results like last time so let's jump in alright so I'm here in Photoshop and on the right hand side I have screenshots taken from Source Filmmaker of all the TF2 mercs along with custom AI generated backgrounds which I have for two reasons the first is that if I try to generate something over a transparent background Photoshop will add its own background which will be problematic if I try to use generate a fill a few different times in different areas the second is that I think it looks cool and my theory is that photoshop will use these backgrounds to generate more themed results instead of a bunch of random stuff alright so I'm going to start with Scout and I'm gonna move my way up this list on the right hand side as the video goes on so what I'm going to do first is I'm going to select the layer layer add a mask and the way I have it set up right now I can just switch to the brush tool and paint away the shirt and it'll reveal the background on the back alright that's good enough now all I'm gonna do is select the lasso tool and I'm just going to select the general area that his shirt was in and see what Photoshop comes up with I'm going to hit generate a fill and this time I'm actually going to type shirt now photoshop's gonna generate uh it could literally generate anything it could generate the same shirt a baseball shirt whoa okay that is that's a little disturbing with the second shirt I don't know what that is and okay it's like some police this is not what I expected I expected something to complement the background this is a little weird I'm actually going to undo this and I'm going to select a larger area that includes some of his arms and neck just like that and I'm Gonna Leave it blank this time I think Photoshop will still generate a shirt maybe me typing it in messed it up let's see okay that's a lot better and we got a warning here saying it may violate user guidelines unfortunately Photoshop will do that sometimes but hey at least we got a couple of shirts this one Scout is like that that v body shape that's like super buff Scout and then this one looks actually normal I like this one I'm gonna keep this one so I'm just gonna deselect this layer and now let's move on to the hands so I'm gonna reselect the Scout mask from before switch to the brush tool and paint away both of his hands and we'll see what Photoshop generates I'm going to select one area and I'm gonna hold shift and then select another area that way it generates over both regions now let's see what Photoshop comes up with oh um I guess we're gonna have to try that again so for whatever reason Photoshop is telling me that the results Violet user guidelines whenever I try to do both arms at the same time so I'm just gonna try the left hand first and hopefully this will generate okay good it did it only generated one result because the rest Violet user guidelines somehow but this time it worked alright so it looks like he's holding some sort of ball let's try the other arm once more and if this doesn't work we're gonna jump straight to the Hat okay sadly this isn't working so let's just go straight to the Hat I'm gonna create a mask for this again so I'm gonna select this select the brush tool there we go I'm gonna get rid of that headphone and the hat so there's a little bit of his face so Photoshop should uh at least fill in his face there we go and I'm Gonna Leave it blank and please don't tell me it violates user guidelines okay that is disturbing that's like Flapjack level disturbing all right um I I don't want to look at this anymore so let's go ahead and just move straight to the let's pretend we didn't see that let's move straight to Soldier next so for the background for Soldier I went with this war torn terrain I don't know it doesn't really look War torn at all it just looks like some dead grass but eh it's close enough let's go ahead and let's give him a new hat first how about that we'll start with the hat this time like this region get it white on the sides I don't know maybe we'll get something funky I don't think we'll get that violate guidelines thing that was a little weird usually I don't get that but we'll see dude what the heck does it think I'm trying to generate a bunch of or something like I don't understand what's going on this time I'm just gonna select this region generate okay I don't know what I'm looking at let me get rid of that I don't know what that is whoa okay okay this confirms that aliens are real since AI like takes images from everything it probably found some aliens somewhere and that's what that is so aliens confirmed guys UFOs are let's go ahead and move on to let's do the boots this time I'm not gonna erase this one either I feel like it might just be a wasted time at this point given the errors that we get but we'll see okay that's actually pretty cool this actually it worked with the background the boots are going into the grass a little bit his pants look a little bit muddy that's pretty cool there's only one variation though so it is what it is hey let's try to like change the color of his shirt how about that maybe we need to just like kind of work with what he has instead of just giving blank prompts let's type in I don't know rainbow shirt this is actually starting to look a little bit more disturbing uh this is so screwed up man this is like some people said that the TF2 map Generations were bad this is way worse this is not going how I expected it at all this is so screwed up let's go with this one let's see how much more screwed up we can get let's take his hands all right let's take this hand this looks like some sort of disco jacket let's try to add like some sort of like white disco glove if that even makes sense I don't know okay I do not like that at all that is just weird I am done with Soldier let's move on to pyro and hope we get some better results all right so for pyro I'm gonna go back to the mask method and this time I'm gonna erase his helmet I know his helmet's iconic but I just want to see what Photoshop will do and how pyro will look with an AI generated face that's a nice Circle as good as I can get it please be something that's not creepy and I don't know if you could consider that creepy that just looks like a kid who's constipated let's just go with it man it's weird I know but it is what it is uh let's select his trousers the this time and maybe Photoshop will generate some funny looking pants to go with his funny looking face okay I don't know why it gave me a thing there I guess one of the results there was like a something that shouldn't be seen by us but all right there's some black pants and pyro with shorts all right I like the black pants though this is actually pretty cool and I don't know if I should retry the head again let's try the hands first and then maybe I'll go back to the Head maybe we can come up with like a cool result at the end so I'll select his glove maybe he'll completely replace it we'll see all right it just completely removed his hand now he just has some sort of like stub I guess is like melted off in the Flames or something what's the second one oh this is cool this is like some Terminator hand oh that's pretty cool so what do you guys like do you like the stub or the Terminator hand I like the Terminator hand so I'm gonna stick with that this is pretty cool this is going actually cool so far but I I want to get rid of the I want to generate a new head because the constipated kid just it doesn't work man I I'm not vibing with it and we get the Violet user guidelines thing again okay okay so I'm back to the default head I'm going to select these eyes right here hit generate maybe we'll get some cool glasses or something maybe doing the whole head won't really work so I'm just going to try the the eyes and see all right that's better we got some sort of okay okay uh I like this because this is like disturbing but not like it's kind of like a cool disturbing if that makes any sense this is pretty cool I'm actually satisfied with this I don't think we need to do any more this pyro one is a success in my opinion so let's go ahead and move on to demo so for Demo's background I thought it was only fitting that we use Cheap whiskey so we got some whiskey shelves and the first thing I want to try to do is add a whiskey bottle in his hand so for this I'm not actually gonna erase his hand I'm gonna select just kind of like an outline of like a whiskey bottle hopefully it doesn't say it violates user guidelines I'm gonna say Whiskey Bottle let's hope that it works okay this looks a little range okay this one he's like missing his fingers this one he has like that condition where you only have two fingers I actually knew someone like that once they were pretty nice anyway I'm gonna keep that it looks a little weird but we'll go with it let's see if we can remove his eye patch that would be something interesting wouldn't it let's try to just erase it first let's see what Demo Man looks like without the eye patch okay all right I think the second one is the best one he actually looks pretty normal that's pretty cool all right what else should we give him let's try trousers again how about that they work good last time I think they'll work good again and okay uh that's pretty cool what about the next one okay that's like some like MVM thing I don't know what that is this one is pretty cool I like this one it's like some metal robot leg thing this is his knees are kind of screwed up but yeah this looks pretty cool let's see if we can get something on the arms too and maybe we can get rid of all of this red I don't know I don't like that it doesn't really do anything interesting so I'm gonna delete that let's see if we can add like some sort of like something crazy like how about some like angel wings or something behind him let's try that generate a fill angel Wings all right don't ask me why that's just the first thing that popped up in my head let's see if Photoshop can do it whoa all right that is impressive that is impressive oh this is Chucky I don't know which one is the worst this one is like it's just like a black face it's nothing like weird this one looks like some serial killer okay I like this one this is funny man I think that's what I need to do I just think I need to be a little bit more creative and actually type some stuff in the prompts so this is demo that's pretty funny let's move on to heavy so for heavy I think it was only fitting that the background is a bunch of sandwiches and to compliment that let's go ahead and try to turn heavy into a chef so I'm gonna select all of his body and let's hit generate a fill and type in Chef's apron or let's just do Chef's clothes so maybe it'll add the apron maybe it'll add more I don't know okay that did not work what about this no uh this one is kind of an apron I think I need to select more area so let me try that okay so this time I selected his arms and his neck looks like he's halfway decapitated or something this is really weird I'm gonna go with this first one though let's see if we can fix his neck though so I'm just gonna select his neck okay we we got like a realistic head uh real I mean realistic neck here and we got a sunburned one all right I like this one let's go with this um let's do his pants right I don't know if there's such a thing as Chef's pants but we're about to find out okay so these are black pants these are like more dress pants and these are like blue pants all right let's go with these black ones now Heavy's face looks a little weird let's see if we can just select his entire face okay this is oh okay I like this one all right that that that's pretty good that's pretty good uh now his hands I just I just noticed his hands are just way too big for his arms I don't know maybe I could fix that if I spent more time but I'd be here forever this is heavy let's go ahead and move on to engineer all right so for NG we have a old abandoned sort of western town in the background let's go ahead and the first thing we need to do obviously is we need to add a cowboy hat and I think Photoshop will have no issue generating that all right it kind of screwed up his face a little bit second one one of those red hat third one okay that's just screwed up I don't want it to mess up his face so I'm gonna actually just gonna undo this and I'm just gonna select the very very top of his face so that it leaves the bottom just like that all right so we got three more results let's go with this one this one is like red it kind of matches his shirt he has a big forehead but it is what it is all right the next thing we need to do is give him some big old cowboy boots now I know there's already a cowboy boot Cosmetic in the game but this is Photoshop it can literally generate whatever so hopefully we get some good boots all right we got some buckles there one two buckle my shoe oh okay these look really good actually now these look like women's boots but these two man this is like super detailed I really like that that's impressive good job Photoshop good job all right so what's a cowboy without a horse so let's go ahead and just select a large area right here and we're just gonna type into the prompt horse whoa this horse doesn't even look realistic it does look cartoony a little bit okay that horse looks very cartoony in bed and that one doesn't even look like a horse so yeah I guess we're gonna go with the first one it's actually pretty cool it's like facing the camera just like the NG is I like that let's go ahead and add a black and white cow the stereotypical cow so black and white how hey would you look at that generated the exact cow I was thinking about that one is like missing its eyes so let's go with the first one all right so we got Angie he's got a horse he's got a a cow he's got his boots and big old cowboy hat I think this is pretty good let's go ahead and move on to medic next so it's no surprise that the background I generated for this is a hospital room actually generated pretty well I have to say I'm I'm impressed with this background but hey we're here for the mercs not the background so since seeing as this is a hospital room let's go ahead and give him a surgical mask surgical mask let's see what Photoshop thinks is a surgical mask hey that's uh that definitely is a surgical mask they don't really fit around his face very well this one and we'll go with this one he has some saggy cheeks but it'll do now I can't think of anything else to really give him so I'm just gonna select a bunch of random stuff like let's just select his arm right here and hit generate a fill okay it just redid his arm I'm gonna go with this though it's weird but it's something and let's just select this entire region here I don't really know what photoshop's gonna do hopefully it does something interesting what the this is so screwed up I I don't think medic is working out guys let's go ahead and just jump straight to sniper all right for Sniper we have a background a desert with a watchtower just kind of like the TF2 intro I'm gonna go ahead and give him some camo clothes let's give him a camo shirt okay that's not a shirt that is a shirt and that's a a jacket or a vest so I like this one this one's cool the shoulders are a little messed up I'm gonna go with the the vest this is pretty cool let's go ahead and see if we can compliment this with some camo pants okay so it generated more of the same camo pattern which is cool I think it's cool okay that this one is even better third one no I like the second one all right this is pretty cool let's go ahead and add camo sleeves next but I don't want to select all of his arms so I'm just gonna go down to here and I'm gonna do it for both arms okay so this is the first result it's got like a little emblem right there that makes sense I guess but we don't really want that in this case and I like the second one here it's it doesn't match perfectly I could probably generate more and get it but it'll do for this purpose I'm gonna go ahead and select the next arm and I'm actually going to add camo only to the top portion I want to do something else with this lower arm which you will see in just a moment okay so it added some sort of like gun that's weird all right let's go with the second one I want to add a tattoo that says I love Mom I don't know I want to see if Photoshop can make it that first one doesn't really work all right that's funny and that one's funny too it didn't really work it's it's kind of like the size isn't right let's give it one more thing to generate let's go ahead and add a I don't know uh let's add a Jeep next to him since he's wearing camo clothes it's only fitting really and I'm adding a military Jeep so it should at least complement the surroundings hey that's pretty cool I like that that one the tires all morphed without the third one hey that's pretty cool I like that so you could add like a ton of stuff if you just are created with it so that's pretty cool okay the last thing I want to do to sniper is give him a mask I don't know what kind of mask let's just type mask okay that is definitely a weird mask that one is even weirder uh I don't know if I can show that on YouTube or if I should be showing that on YouTube that looks a little uh let's give sniper a tactical mask instead of those weird ones that we saw I don't even know how it came up with the third result uh I don't like these ones let's hit generate again okay that's like a little better all right we're gonna go with the first one and let's go ahead and add goggles because I don't like that guy's eyes that's weird military goggles very generic term and it added sunglasses but I think that works yeah I like the sunglasses all right that's pretty cool I like this snipers W so we only got one class left and that is spy so for spy Eiffel Tower in the background very very beautiful simple Blue Sky background love it first thing I want to do I I want to give him a baguette I'm going to select this area right around his hand bag I don't even know how to spell all right just looked up how to spell baguette whoa that is a nice baguette but that hand looks a little screwed up okay this is nice it like maintained his glove yeah I like that I like that I don't know what else is French oh that's right the French have these things called Berets let's let's add one then is it b-e-r-e-y nope once again I cannot spell it's b-e-r-e-t there we go okay that is not a beret that is not a beret either no this is not a beret hold on a second one second thought I actually just looked up arrays and they actually can look like this I'm just an idiot so since I don't know any other French stuff I'm just gonna select the entire body of spy and type French clothing what the I don't know is that French guys I it doesn't look French to me or doesn't look like anything recognizably French that's a little weird let's go let's go back to our part by part method all right how about a coat still pretty large but it is smaller and it is more specific that is not a coat that is not a coat that is I don't know what in the world that is I try generating again okay okay man I don't like any of this stuff this is weird oh let's just add some quick pants and then see how it all turns out well this just goes to show you that if you want to use this generative AI fill tool you got to be specific because if you do generic things then you're gonna get weird results like this sniper one I did very very specific things I said camo pants camo jacket police goggles a military Jeep but if you do generic things like this heavy where I just said Chef's clothing it doesn't really work or on demo demo was pretty cool I have to give it to that but there's a couple that were weird like Soldier was definitely weird if you saw this picture you would not know that this came from Soldier this one was probably the biggest fail Scout was all right I mean we were able to get a ball out of his hand his head looks really screwed up but I don't know I think my favorite out of all these is definitely sniper it looks pretty badass not gonna lie so anyways I hope you enjoyed the video this is Led switching off
