Using capacitors instead of a car battery for 3 years and counting!

[Music] okay we're shooting a video today because I wanted to share my experience with an idea I got from youtube user Laser saber about how to run your car off of a small bank of 350 farad times six super capacitors I've been running this unit my car now for three years three years in a month so the super capacitors are inside this container here see there's six of them and there's a balancing board in there that makes us come straight up to these full and I just kind of use washers and bolted this down you know tighten down on the battery connector now for the first like three or four months I did not have this battery here this is a small SLA led acid battery I think it's 12 hours no 7 amp hours ok it's pretty small so kind of fruit you get for a computer battery cost me twelve dollars on Amazon that was with shipping so it's not too bad and the reason I got that is because after about three months I had left the key in the ignition and turned on and of course the capacitor drained after like I don't know 10 minutes I think the drain to a point where it couldn't start the car anyway so with this pattern here I can run a test it up to about thirty minutes just running the radio I didn't go past that but I didn't have a problem starting the car either also if we know the car doesn't start the first time then you don't have a second chance with this small capacitor bank so let's do a demonstration of the car starting up you can hear it it starts right up I got a little voltage meter again laser the Sabres idea 14 volts if I turn it off I kind of um I don't start it you can see we're at 13.4 starts right up another question I get a lot is will it start without the battery attached and the answer is yes so I'll demonstrate that disconnect the battery and now we're going to start with just the capacitor attached see it definitely has no problem starting up without the battery all again the battery's not there to help it start [Applause] just there in case I leave the keys on the lights on the radio or whatever obviously it's not going to last as long as a regular full-size car battery but it's going to keep me from accidentally getting stuck okay so here's the unit pulled out of the car these are the nuts and bolts I use to bolt to the battery cable in the car and open it up here those are the six Maxwell 350 farad and the balancing board which I don't know if there's a brand for that or not but on eBay for about 12 bucks I think for the board and some good high gear low games I should say and they're just bolt it right on there if anybody has any questions or comments just leave them below some reason I guess was everything on the internet there's people who just don't believe it I think it's not real or something that I have some I can't even stab them reason to pretend like it's working like I'm going to gain something from that but uh truly is to me on a good alternative to a car battery I think for the average person it probably wouldn't be the best because of the small amount of reserve power but you can get six of those 3000 farad or bigger capacitors you assemble those together it's about the size of a regular car battery and you wouldn't even need a battery and that thing would last you as much as probably a regular car battery honestly anyways thanks a lot Laser saber the idea is really panned out and I'm actually going to build a bigger one of these to replace this one because I've got a second a second Honda over here I'm going to put right in there this is the new unit and building these are 700 farad each so compared to the 350 so I'll double the amount of power these are the balancing circuits on top of each one there I put them on upside down so I could wire them together with these bus bars I found from the telephony bin at a local salvage shop so I've got some wiring series here and then I'll have those wire up to these battery bolts to case and connect on to actual battery lugs that should work a bit better enough this will be inside now with the good solid lid and I think that's going to work even better I'm hoping this size I'm not going to need a battery so maybe I'll shoot a video of that once you get that going that's about it thanks for watching - a few more starts here see [Music] this works great honestly three years and I haven't had to buy a car battery yet expect at some point I'll have to replace this letteth adjust small one so far doesn't great I mean this I was in Florida the heat is tremendously horrible in the summertime and Stoddard still been good [Music] [Music] you
