114 dollars hundred and fourteen dollars bio one hundred and fourteen dollars an inch $14 machine it's 114 dollars its 140 but I 114 dollars on Amazon it will get you at this thing hey guys I'm Chucky 2009 and over the years I've reviewed and promoted all kinds of welding equipment from all different manufacturers all levels of quality and a bunch of different prices as well but there's one thing which I've never done which is what you guys are always asking before and that is to review a dirt-cheap welder so this is what we got over here this is the the hyl 160 arc 160 this thing costs now keep in mind the ideal stick welder they've used my personal favourite costs about eighteen hundred dollars if you are going to buy like a good used old transformer machine like off of Craigslist or something expect to spend maybe two to six hundred this thing cost a hundred and fourteen dollars shipped to my door one hundred and fourteen dollars I think it was like 139 or something with a with a coupon that you that you clip on Amazon so this is basically the cheapest stick welder on Amazon that I think has actual potential to be a welder qualifications for this it needed to come through Amazon Prime so if it does have issues it's really easy to send back ii i don't know how hyl is honoring their warranty which they plaster on the side of the box but if they want to fight you it could be a problem but since it's you know Amazon Prime if you get it doesn't work right out of the box where you just send it back it's really easy it also has to have infinitely variable adjustment like a knob on the front you turn and it's a basic thing but a lot of these really cheap machines don't have it also needs to be 220 volt because uh you know a 110 volt only welder you're gonna get that don't get definitely don't get a stick welder my advice would be to get like a TIG only machine because you can you get a lot more out of that hundred amps or something maximum that you get plugged into a regular wall outlet with that then you do sticker wire speed welding so yeah 220 infinitely variable amperage and it comes through Amazon Prime that's it and I got it for 100 $14 okay now you know here's the thing I don't think I could ever really recommend somebody just goes the cheapest way humanly possible on a purchase like this but if you are on a budget really one of the best things you can get is the cheap stick welder you know if you buy a cheap TIG machine it's gonna have like a gas Illinois did some more moving parts and pieces with a wire feed welder there's like a wire drive mechanism which can go wrong a stick welder a lot of you guys knows that's basically just a power source if you're on a budget you can't afford that much get a cheap stick welder before you any other kind of welder if we're working your application all right let's see what we have in here we got ground clamp pretty standard this does use the smaller style of dense plug so accessory interchangeability might be a little bit of a challenge but you know for the price what do you expect these are also like thinner than extension cord thickness leads so there's not a lot of copper in there but again 114 dollars what do you expect Sic lead pretty much the same thing they do actually give you a better than I expected electrode holder this is like not the cheapest one I've ever seen this is like second from the cheapest of it maybe no third from the cheapest I've ever seen so that's better than I was expecting you know sometimes folks like to complain about what you get on really budget equipment like this but the reality is if you want premium everything don't buy something that costs one hundred and fourteen dollars but you know what I'm gonna do my best to give this thing a fair review for you guys yeah that's the other thing I'm not affiliated with hyl bought this with my own hundred and fourteen dollars for you guys if you do decide you want to pick this up or anything else on Amazon you go through the link in the description the channel earners a small Commission which helps make unspotted content like this the pasta Bru oh that one really flew for the rest of us okay so let's see you get an owner's manual you also get this little goofy shoulder strap thing you know what no probably not keep this I might I don't know give it away or something so I'm gonna leave that on here you get a strain relief coming out the back of the machine you know a little piece of plastic cost a few cents more than ours expect Hank oh boy that thing is you know I you I used the machine it called the HP Alfa a stick 160 if this looks like it but cheaper yeah so what do we have here we've got a surprisingly long power cord I thought this was only going to be like you know three feet or something looks like it's probably five or six curled up they do give you the standard 220 volt plug with this nice switch on the back machine per you regulation so it's sold over there as well you know everything about this looking at it looks really cheap this is just like I think it's called ABS plastic or something if I knock on this few hard it's gonna split this handle it's ABS plastic and it's like you know paper-thin as well but you know what hundred and fourteen dollars all right I have to use some oh hey this is kind of cool this strap actually will come undone some of them they're sewn like fit literally sewn onto the machine itself so you can't remove it that's why I was tempted to cut it but it looks like this one we can just get out of the way cuz I don't wanna deal with this flopping all over the place all right okay this is as small as it sounds this actually is something of a plus great it's working with a guy the other day who didn't have a belt I could just get on that thing all right let's see here get this plugged in this is the part room pail myself nope where we're good okay keep the stick welder ever in the shop which is really saying something what do I think looks like a stick machine like I said it's basically a power source with an adjustment dial on the front it weighs next to nothing like you know you look at this you say oh it's a little lunch box size inverter so it's not gonna weigh much which is true and I expect that this this is probably the single lightest one I've ever so much as handled in my entire life so I don't really know what to expect here guess there's not much to it but to do it one thing that is nice even though they're the smaller style of dims quick-connect these are standard dins plugs so we can just pop these in here and it makes it easy if we want to upgrade our leads or whatever later on assuming this makes it that long so hundred and sixty amp machine get in there hundred and sixty amp machine that is unlike a lot of these really cheap owners one hundred and sixty amps is enough to do actual serious welding with the standard a stick electrode and pretty much any shop it's gonna be the eighth inch seventy eighteen which are these things here these run it generally 120 to maybe 125 amps and we have a whole hundred and sixty probably not at the world's greatest duty cycle you know what actually that's the other thing okay so we've got this label under here well how about that it's actually not bad at all so the duty cycle is the percentage of time the Machine can run at a certain amperage without overheating this one has a sixty percent duty cycle at one hundred and sixty amps which is I was expecting like twenty percent but this is sixty that's actually quite good so that means maxed out you can run this thing like with the arc lit welding with it for six out of ten minutes and and it won't overheat and then to run it continuously without it overheating is 124 amps so you can just you can use so these standard electrodes which I was just talking about continuously without stopping you know theoretically of course they burned down you have to change them but the machine it could put out that level of power indefinitely without overheating so all right let's see if it fires up half-expecting a little bang there but nope it is alive and unlike cheaper machines with stepped amperage so there's just like taps you know one here and I go and it's like a big 15 or 20 amp jump this I thought it was supposed to go down to 20 amps but I guess it doesn't really matter goes down to 27 and up to 162 this knob actually I was expecting lots of slop and really chintzy construction but it actually feels pretty good alright so there's 125 amps there's nothing else to adjust on this machine it's the kind of thing that would be really nice for someone who's just learning to weld because like I said one inch but it's also the kind of thing like I was talking about before that makes a cheap stick welder in my opinion a better investment than a cheap other kind of welder who's just not that much to it all right oh boy I'm anxious about this when it comes to durability on stuff like this my advice if you do end up with one of these or you end up with something similar you get this thing you run it hard well thin that like 30 day or 90 day or whatever it is Amazon Prime return things so if it does die it's really easy to swap out and if it makes it through that it'll probably make it for quite some time before something actually gives out in machine itself so all right well this is about to strike the arc on the cheapest stick welder on Amazon to my qualifications all right here we go [Music] [Music] how about that the son of a gun does actually weld is this the finest quality arc I've ever experienced in my years experiencing arcs no it isn't but it is functional and it's honestly not as bad as I thought it was gonna be all right let's see it's my slag chipping here see how we did here it does work it's a it's a 114 dollars and it does work all right so seems to have no issues with the 70 18 let's try something which I know it's probably not gonna do which is running 60 10 so the 60 10 Elektra I'll put it this way here's your ultra basic crash course and electrode selection there's really only two electrodes which have any use in a modern environment there's 70 18 and 60 10 / 60 1170 18 is great because it's it's what's called a low hydrogen electrode it's very ductile the welds you produce with it they stand up to vibration shock loading things along those lines very well literally ten times better than like a 60 13 70 14 type electrode then there's 60 10 and 60 11 which you'd use to burn through rust and paint and things along those lines if you have these two electrodes you can do pretty much anything in fact these are the only two I have in my shop for all the welding I do now the 60 10 it's a little harsher it's got a little more of a brutal arc and it requires a little more arc voltage than 60 11 which is 60 10 but designed to run on AC and this is a DC machine but we can use the 60 11 here if this won't work out that well which it I I will be absolutely amazed if this thing actually has the arc voltage required to keep the slits Attis fact early so all right here we go 90 amps 860 10 [Music] it did better than I was expecting but really no you know it'll run this but the art cuts out it's really choppy this is under ideal circumstances if you're using this electrode for what a lot of people will which is of course burning through crap with it it's gonna be that much harder to keep the art going but for AC only machines or DC machines with limited arc voltage we have sixty 11s now the problem with these 6011 so I went and bored them off my welding truck these got driven over by an excavator yesterday or day before yesterday so hopefully they say yeah this one's still mostly good so all right well sometimes you know what you say to yourself this is the worst thing that happens all day we'll be doing pretty well but yeah like 20 tonne excavator is that part of itself on those but alright we have at least one functional one these should it shuts down and run a lot like that sixty ten but hopefully it'll actually have the arc voltage keep this going so it requires quite a bit less all right here we go perfect yeah so it's pretty much what I was expecting here's the reality about this machine in a usability standpoint if you're trying to weld material thinner than an eighth of an inch it'll do it it runs the 7018 is perfectly fine I would use smaller 3/32 inch 70 18s for anything that's like eighth inch or three sixteenths thickness anything three sixteenths or quarter inch or larger it runs the eighth inch and since it's a hundred and sixty amps it should have the power to run the larger electrode it's for like serious repair and stuff you don't actually have some of these so let's uh let me just cut myself off mid-sentence and clean a weld and then we'll we'll actually try this out with some 5/32 7018 you got to rummage through those sixty 11s later through most of them out all right let's see so we're gonna be maxing this machine out if anything's gonna blow this thing pretty much as soon as it's out of the box it's going to be this we're using all 162 amps this machine hath that's what we got it set to I don't know what that'll actually read out to is we're welding so all right well for better or for worse here we go all right something of a shorter piece of material so instead of stopping with like most of the electrode I just like welded around the corner and back the other way and it did it it does have the power to run these larger electrodes now this isn't something you're likely to use all that often this isn't something you really like you likely to use all that often but if you're working on dare I say it with a 14 dollar machine if you're working on heavy equipment or like thicker material on farm equipment or something the larger diameter rods they have a lot more steel in them of course so they'll put this amount of material down a lot faster and it actually did do it it did it a lot better than I was expecting it to all right so what can I say about this machine it's a hundred and fourteen dollars and it actually does work and it actually does get the job done but that's about it I can say if you buy this thing hundred fourteen bucks on Amazon one hundred and fourteen dollars to my amazement it didn't die it does what it's supposed to and with 160 F especially at a sixty percent duty cycle it's you can actually do a fair amount with this thing I was expecting this thing was gonna be like twenty percent duty cycle maxed out like a lot of homeowner machines are and so it's gonna be overheating constantly can dwell for two minutes out of ten or whatever it is it it's amazingly it's really not that bad so it's it's a lot more than I was expecting for the price and for whatever it's worth you guys there's my review if if you want to read up more about this or whatever I'll put some links in the video description below and amazingly it actually does frickin work 220 volts got a nice digital display infinitely adjustable thingamajigger what's not to love I've officially seen it all thanks for watching guys
