today it is going to be an apotheosis of beauty and adventure we're going to visit iconic attractions like niagara falls for example but also less known destinations such as letchworth state park the grand canyon of the east we're going to explore great cities like buffalo and rochester watkins glen in the finger lakes area oh and the corning museum of glass join us as we explore western upstate new york [Music] i'm writing and writing writing [Music] because i'm free in my rvt we're arriving in buffalo new york and let me tell you not the best first impression [Music] actually it is getting better but we're not staying here we're actually going a little farther north towards the southern shore of lake ontario [Music] we must be very careful not to take the wrong exit because that is called the peace bridge and on the other side of the niagara river that is canada and even though as we were filming this on august 14th 2021 and the canadian border just reopened august 9th we don't want to risk international travel yet also traveling with a loner rv can be an issue so we'll remain on this side for now although let me tell you it is very tempting as someone who grew up on an island i find the land borders fascinating and here's another border crossing gotta make sure we turn right yep we almost made the wrong turn we're going to stay right here at 4 mile creek state park a huge campground right on lake ontario the view across the lake should be spectacular well here we are very nice 4 mile creek campground we're getting almost perfect weather today amazing this high 70s mid 70s probably sunny not a cloud in the sky and now we're gonna go see um lake ontario i knew it that's toronto on the canadian side 30 miles [Applause] away i can't really see it probably not with this camera but way up there way up there in the distance across the lake that's toronto ontario canada this is lake ontario and this is uh beautiful afternoon here and tomorrow tomorrow we're going to to niagara falls we're going to walk around the park here a little more let's go for a little hike here there's a creekside trail i don't know exactly where it goes [Music] it is the only trails [Music] you just can't get over the fact you can see the city across the lake [Music] it looks like the trail goes through the back of some of these tent sites [Music] and this must be four mile creek we're only doing like a quarter mile [Music] i want to thank servsharkvpn for sponsoring this episode and what is a vpn you might ask well it stands for virtual private network what it does it provides a secure private connection between your devices and the internet and this is particularly important if you're at a public wi-fi like a coffee shop a hotel campground even if it has a password you don't really know if that connection is secure if it is private if someone is dropping on your communication that is so simple you know it's just an app on your mobile device and there's also a desktop application for your computer and all you have to do the simplest way to do it is connect and within a few seconds that connection has become totally private totally secure for your eyes only that's what that's the main feature right and even if you're not at a public wi-fi sometimes it is good practice just to do it especially for the other features for example let's say you want to watch something that is only available in another country all you have to do is there's a drop down menu and all you have to do is connect let's connect to montreal for example and that's it you are virtually transported teleported as i like to say to montreal there are other features there's this one right here called search and i've been using it lately it's uh it's a true incognito search it has other features like a clean web that will get rid of unwanted ads or spyware that kind of thing now they're running a holiday special and if you click on the link in the description box that's surfshark.deals my rv and you enter promo code my rv you get 84 percent off and four months for free well we're gonna make some cuban style uh black beans and what we did uh we soaked the beans first and now we gonna put them on the instant pot with some water and some green peppers and we're gonna give it pressure for about an hour and then we're gonna do sofrito and the rest of the stuff it's gonna be good remember those sausages we got back in georgia but yeah we're grilling one of those too and bacon smoking [Music] yeah meanwhile inside we're chopping and sauteing some onions salt pepper i'm gonna crush peel a mince of some garlic and some of that bacon that we just grilled [Music] some of that edmundo cooking wine cumin oregano and paprika [Music] all right it's been an hour i think this is ready so how do you do this um the one at home is different you're just gonna spoon there you go the stream will come out and the sofrito is almost ready so this will go in there now and then at the end we'll add a little bit of you know raw olive oil just for the flavor and maybe we'll do a little bit of vinegar it'll be great this is gonna be like really really good it's gonna need a little more salt for sure but now we're gonna mix this alfredo here i'm gonna mix it up and that's it i think it's ready i'll just bring this over and in the end it might need a little bit more salt that's the only thing so i forgot to put salt on the on the beans themselves and i'm using this sea salt i mean this himalayan salt i'm not used to it so i have no idea you could use more salt i mean it's a whole pound of beans all right let's check it out of course this is a dish best enjoyed after a while once it's you know all the flavors concentrate and with a little bit of white rice also is the way to do it but i'm just gonna taste it like this see if it's gonna if it's any good we already stuffed from all that sausage and bacon i'm gonna be honest it was not the most traditional recipe grandma must be rolling in her grave but it was close enough and tasty now let's enjoy the sunset over the lake it's still a little bit early but such a beautiful afternoon here overlooking lake ontario now that we're lower only the tallest skyscrapers are visible over the horizon it's early still but i think it's going to be a pretty good sunset everyone is gathering for the spectacle well here we are we're in the sunset [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and it's gone [Music] we're going to niagara falls some years back we visited the canadian side but today we're going to the american falls here's whirlpool state park which we will visit later but first there's a pull out here coming up from where we can get our first glimpse at niagara falls i can already see the tall buildings the skylon tower there's the canadian side over there you can see the the maid of the mist on the river that's it right there now if you ever come here don't do what i'm about to do i don't know if i mentioned it before but with our four mile creek state park pass we're getting free at all new york state parks and niagara falls happens to be one of those but no no no not me i saw the sign that said casino and visitor parking and like um i don't even want to say it i parked at the 25 lot [Music] the more you know in any case we are here and very excited to see the american side of this natural wonder of the world there it is right now we are behind the american falls but we're going to a better vantage point [Music] here this is much better and that's the maid of the mist down there which is a boat that takes you right to the edge of the falls but we did that back in 2013 and today we're doing something different [Music] now we are at the observation tower and the view from here is spectacular by far the best view of the falls [Music] and there's the canadian side which is more developed and it does have arguably a better view of the falls but i really like this side perhaps even better i don't know i feel like on the american side the experience is more intimate while the view from the canadian side is more commanding if you will there's once again the maid of the mist but as i said we did that back in 2013 so we're doing something different today and that's the rainbow bridge between the usa and canada and that is the edge the edge of the world [Music] that's the bridge that goes towards goat island which is an island located right between the american falls and the canadian horseshoe falls and that's where we're going next we're going to do something adventurous and potentially get wet [Music] that's the observation tower we visited earlier the best place to see the falls as a whole from this side of the border [Music] here's the back of bridalvale falls and again the observation tower much more crowded now yes bridal veil falls here once again and that's what we're going to do next it is called cave of the winds we are in between the falls here actually on this small piece of dry land called luna island yep we're definitely gonna get wet [Music] and here's another one of the viewpoints it is quite something to see the falls here in person here we are cave of the winds oh yeah quite the fashion statement here as we go into the cave of the winds this was almost bucket list guys and uh yeah this attraction incredibly crowded [Music] niagara falls american falls up there what a great view this is the roar of the rushing water is deafening it's amazing of course some people take not one or two but 20 pictures taking forever oblivious to the fact that everybody else wants to do the same we're getting pretty wet here here oh let's go all the way to the top we're going to cross right on the parietal valve it's gonna be here feel the wind right all right [Music] that was awesome that was awesome well we can check that one off the bucket list back down we go that's probably the closest we can get to the horseshoe falls from the american side actually let's go down there and take a closer look wow look at that believe it or not we're standing almost right on the border where the waterfalls begin that's technically canadian land or water i guess let's take one final look here if we're going to eat let's eat steak sandwich with bacon the food not necessarily gourmet but let's face it the whole reason for coming here is to have lunch with the view looks fancier from the outside than it really is but it wasn't bad i wanted to buy a t-shirt but they don't have any large i mean there was one large t-shirt in the whole store and it was kind of ugly but the other ones you know small and xxl that was it now we're just going to walk around goats island see what else there is to see [Music] well yeah this was the the 360 360 the three sisters area and um not quite the piece of resistance as the waterfalls was but you can see the roaring rapids and it's very nice it's just three three islands with the bridges and let me show you this view coming up here i think this was uh this is one of the better views of the canadian side with the mist coming off you know and uh you know the tall buildings on the canadian side these are just three little islands now we're gonna continue going around the main island and then we're gonna go somewhere else hello folks maybe maybe they should rename it goose island ipa by the way i want to show you here coming up uh next but this is like the confluence we're both uh waterfalls will begin to form you know the canadian falls start going that way and the water starts going this way and on the american falls the water the water will start flowing this way and as you can see it is probably excuse me fellows it's probably the quietest part did i say confluence it is more like a bifurcation right you see over here is already starting to flow to the left towards the the american falls we're going to walk on a different bridge now to go back to the mainland [Music] that is amazing i will take it down the other bridge are coming back into the city of niagara falls this is the regular traffic bridge not the pedestrian bridge we took earlier [Music] let's visit whirlpool state park it is supposed to be very scenic and apparently very popular let's go see the whirlpool here we go scenic overlook check it out there's a gondola and a jet boat cool [Music] that's a roaring river right there that's the double decker whirlpool rapids bridge it would have been really cool to get on the jet boat but we didn't plan for it this time around very cool the whirlpool and it looks like they have some tours and there's a way to get all the way down there but we're tired so we don't wanna have to climb all the way back up let's keep on walking on this trail and we'll see what else we can see the whirlpool is actually a pretty interesting phenomenon as the rapids empty onto the whirlpool it creates a counterclockwise current effectively reversing the course of the river in that area very cool and that's the gondola it's called the aerocar and that one you have to take from the canadian side tomorrow we might come back and hike all the way down there [Music] actually let's do a portion of the hike today [Music] and that would be the robert moses hydroelectric power plant [Music] now driving over the hydroelectric and there's a similar plant on the ontario canada side next up fort niagara state park located at the very northwestern tip of the state right at the spot where the niagara river empties onto lake ontario and since we're staying at 4 mile creek we get in for free here's the lighthouse dating back to 1872. i really wanted to see the fort not only for the history but for the views but it is kind of late in the day and we're hungry so this one is going to get bumped from the itinerary there's also a great view of the toronto skyline even better than before because we're a bit closer and it is a super clear day i mean look at that well someone recommended this barbecue place in lewiston so take that out then turn left onto the ramp to fort niagara [Music] the main part of center street is closed but we can park a couple of blocks away well a serendipity would dictate there's some kind of festival going on in town so that might be good well this is historic lewiston right here and yeah it looks like whatever carnival was happening here today it's it's over but the street is still closed and this is the place we're going this right here this looks good we're having something called the flying spaghetti monster personal plate well lewistown here a town that deserves revisiting but we're tired yes i think i mentioned that before so we're just gonna go back chill out and i'll see you guys tomorrow [Music] well good morning we're gonna go on a little hike today in a quarter mile merge onto niagara scenic parkway parkway and uh yeah we're gonna go on that whirlpool hike you know ever since yesterday i was itching to finish that hike so that's what we're gonna do today well here we are back at the whirlpool and we're gonna do the niagara gorge rim trail according to all trails it is like three and a half miles so it should be good yeah here we are it's supposed to be three and a half miles and it goes all the way down into the gorge [Music] [Music] it's beautiful here and such great weather this morning it's like 70 degrees in the shade it's very nice [Music] there's that big dam over there [Music] [Music] and this is where we start going down to the gorge let's start going down this stairs [Music] i have a feeling these stairs are gonna be super strenuous on the way back up but one careful step at a time right [Music] that rock moved let's hope that one doesn't interesting there are campsites down here see one back there i see some up here it's gorgeous no we don't really have any markings does the trail continue that way or should i go this way i don't know according to all trails it is this way so we're gonna keep going this way [Music] so [Music] just a few open downs here in this area and a few bugs but they're not really bugging me check it out wildlife hello [Music] and we're getting close to the whirlpool [Music] an obstacle we're almost there i think i'm just gonna come to this area here and stop and uh just to see though just to see the rapids there and we're going back up not looking forward to those stairs [Music] let's make sure we remember this path here this is magnificent we finally made it to the niagara river look at the crystalline water or some people feel the need to do it something like that let's call them contemporary petroglyphs but i don't think we should add to what's already being created here by nature or god or kyle and terry can't help but marvel at the great forces of nature here [Music] [Music] a little bit further downstream here and that rushing water this is sight to behold well this was a wonderful spot i know the trail goes a little farther that way but we're just gonna start heading back we did a total of 1.7 miles and so it's going to be 1.7 mile mostly uphill now i almost want to linger here for a lot longer but this is the thing i don't feel like going back up those stairs but it must be done let's do it [Music] [Music] well that's it not really looking forward to this part [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah these stairs are kicking my butt we're almost there [Music] i prevailed we survived those stairs that's just a little hike maybe a little less than half a mile to the parking lot i believe this might be a shortcut actually well we're going to buffalo for the invented buffalo wings [Music] it's about a 45 minute drive so not necessarily close but we have to do it right i think this place has been pinned on my map since before we started rving and if you haven't guessed yet it is anchor bar the birthplace of the buffalo wing [Music] and here we are established 1935. i didn't know we had reserved parking oh well this is uh where they invented the buffalo what's going on i think we're gonna sit at the bar and they do have their own anchor bar ipa here you got the boneless and the potato wedges and my original are taking a little longer here we go the original chicken wings were not a thing at all originally they were only used like to make soup and things like that until that one day in 1964 when teresa bellissimo deep fried some with a secret sauce and the rest is hot wing history all right another somewhat bucket list destination that i i wanted to visit for a long time even though don't tell anybody i'm not the biggest fan of buffalo wings but this i had to try and there's some of the best i've had for sure let's go explore a little bit but mostly by car i'm tired from that hike earlier today and sleepy from that meal oh check it out even the street sign has a buffalo silhouette painted on it which i don't want to be that guy but it is technically a bison but somehow bison new york wouldn't have the same ring to it i like buffalo it has that old character that i like to see in cities [Music] we're approaching niagara square pretty much the center of town the obelisk commemorates the assassination of president mckinley and the art deco building here to the right is city hall there's an observation deck at the top and there is an imposing building and quite ornate i like it it is in the national registry of historic places by the way [Music] we wanted to visit pearl street grill and brewery but there's only so much you can eat or drink for that matter here's the children's museum and the naval military park that would have been cool to visit but we're just gonna stop real quick here by the mouth of the buffalo river also part of the erie canal [Music] here we have the buffalo main light established in 1833 and it is the oldest structure still standing in its original location in the city of buffalo and here's the uss sullivans and the uss little rock all part of the naval park on the left the general mills frontier elevator this vast marina on the right right here on the buffalo river and that seems to be like a nice boardwalk it is called canal side well i think we've done enough for one day let's get back to the campground because tomorrow is going to be a travel day this is that canal side area it seems very lively man i wish we were in the mood there's even an indoor merry-go-round it's called buffalo heritage carousel [Music] here's the key bank center home to the initial sabres and the nll bandits it would be cool to attend the game someday la crosse and hockey are two sports i'm not very familiar with here to the right we're going to see the original county and city hall before they moved it to the art deco building and we're gonna pass by niagara square one more time i'm gonna do a double take at that city hall building it is magnificent [Music] look at the statue of liberty actually there are two of them on top of the liberty bank building [Music] we're going to visit one more point of interest before we leave and not really visit visit is a strong word in this case we're going to drive by and see it and take some pictures from the outside and it is this house by famous architect frank lloyd wright this one is called martin house and they do have tours he designed over 1000 structures some of them quite remarkable he was the pioneer of a philosophy called organic architecture and the idea was to design in harmony with humanity and the environment so buildings furnishings and surroundings would become part of a unified interrelated composition sounds good huh one of these days will go inside this house dates back to 1905 and it kind of looks modern even by 21st century standards the rest of the neighborhood it's pretty but not like the iconic martin house and with that we're gonna say goodbye to buffalo for now [Music] check it out we can see the mist all the way from here [Music] that's a pretty nice campsite tomorrow the road will take us someplace else but for now let's enjoy our last evening overlooking toronto on the shore of lake ontario well here we are we're ready to go by the way this is what the roof looks like here so it's starting to get dirty i have to have to clean it up but in any case whenever we have the slide out under a tree you know i like to to sweep it a little bit because sometimes today is really good actually but sometimes it has a lot of leaves so just go like this we have some bird poop there nothing i can do about that right now and we're gonna fill up with water dump and up to on to our next destination let me make sure the extension cord is okay because you know this is what we use to power the computers and we just don't don't want it to get caught in the slide there all right we're ready to go today is going to be about a two hour drive 80 miles or so and we're going to make at least one stop along the way and where we're going is also going to be an only electric site so let's fill up the fresh water and then we're gonna dump on the way out yeah filling up with water before we go here's the dump station and they have two which is good because it's a large campground but they are too close together i'm gonna have to wait for this person to finish anyway well i'm glad they were almost done yeah it's always a good idea to flush whenever you get one of these you know hoses available and there was a lot of stuff stuff stuck in there i don't really want to show you let me deposit my checkout slip and off we go [Music] you think it might rain i don't know but it looks a little scary yep i knew that was gonna happen luckily it was brief [Music] twelve three i think we'll be fine and here we are at our first stop of the day lockport new york let's see if we can find parking this is the location of a historic flight of five locks on the erie canal the purpose of the erie canal was to create a navigable water route between the atlantic ocean and the great lakes there are a total of 36 locks and it goes all the way from buffalo to the hudson river now if we could only find parking and it looks like there's some here to the left well three rights on the left make a u-turn and here we are [Music] well we stopped here briefly in lockport and the main thing to see here is the historic five locks on the every canal here so that's what we're going to see and um just for a few minutes i i you know at some point i wish i had allocated more time for this but this is all the time we allocated i think we're in luck there's a boat going through [Music] the slowly rising [Music] there's an overall elevation difference of about 565 feet divided among all the 36 locks [Music] once the water levels equalize the gates begin to open and the boats can go through it's a double set of gates and i guess the duck was waiting too patiently [Music] no that was really cool as you can see they're closing the lock as soon as the boat goes through and uh i'm always fascinated by this uh works of engineering like uh and this is old i mean this is the base dates back to um i don't remember i'll write it down but it's historic you know actually i have to correct myself that's a fairly modern structure only dating back to 1918 the historic locks from 1825 are the narrow ones on the other side am i glad i came when i did now there's a gazillion people coming here let me let me take a picture with that sculpture this here these are the historic flight of five [Music] yeah it's like they're taking a picture nice looking look at the group of palace there let's continue on the road again i should have stayed and crashed the the guided tour back there but [Music] i'm just going to continue lots of traffic here on the euro canal as i said earlier i love this stuff and i couldn't linger here forever you know waiting for the water to come up and down as as they let boats through you know they're changing in in water levels but um but i want to continue we're going to continue towards letchworth state park but i had to come see the euro canal that's a cool sculpture down there we parked the rv right here on the side of the street and now we continue of course there are many other things to see and do here in lockport but today we're just passing through for example the lockport cave right here on the right it's a 70 minute guided tour an underground boat ride and that's just one of the many things to do here can't do everything in one trip right [Music] this one doesn't say clearance but it's probably one of those that looks lower than it really is [Music] perry here pretty good looking town we might return later the terrain is certainly beginning to change and we're getting all these rolling hills how exciting and here we are latchworth state park also dubbed the grand canyon of the east let's see if it lives up to the hype we have grills preheated and we're gonna grill some some world famous tony pacos from toledo i'm gonna heat up some of that a tony pacos hotdog sauce yeah we don't have any hot dog buns so that's what it's gonna have to be i'm gonna eat one like that and the second one i might put cheese on it we'll see i ended up not putting cheese on it oh yeah this happened oh yeah at some point her good weather luck was going to run out and it certainly did hey nice to meet you thank you we watch you all the time i was just gonna go waving your camera as a joke i didn't know it was yeah got caught a little off guard there but i love what i do love meeting people along the way at campgrounds walmarts all kinds of different places and i usually get good tips like places to visit breweries stuff like that we're going to explore this northern part of the park first the one close to the campground but first we have to go into town for our weekly visit to the post office yep gotta mail those cds stickers magnets [Music] it is that time of the week gotta do some shipping i'll be right back you know those magnets they get stuck to the to the to the box sometimes all right let's go explore the uh ledgeworth state park a little now today we've only got a couple of hours before it gets dark and let's face it not the best weather but i have a feeling the mist and the rain and the fog might give the canyon a certain unique look we'll see this first pullout is called hugsback overlook the ridge is called huxback for its resemblance to a wild boar spine yeah i kind of see it the wild boar spine kind of sort of [Music] this is the high banks recreational area here to the right they have a huge swimming pool and this next pull out here overlooks mount morris dam it's mesmerizing this is the northern end of the park and i'm thinking probably not the most impressive part next the damn overlook near the northern entrance to the park and they have a gift shop and a restaurant but we just came for the view okay i'm about to say something controversial i mean it is a beautiful area but i think calling it the grand canyon might be overselling it a little bit i'm just saying it is getting late but let's go to the southern portion of the park the one we're going to visit more in depth tomorrow [Music] this is called gordo overlook is it possible that the fog is actually enhancing the experience there are so many of these pullouts but we can't possibly stop at all of them at least not today the sun's going down and it is getting dark quickly [Music] this is the great band overlook this may be one of those where the low hanging clouds do not enhance the experience oh yeah it's a little bit of fog here [Music] oh yeah i'm sure it's an amazing view we're gonna try and see the lower falls but if we can't there's always tomorrow [Music] i wonder how long the trail is we wanted to do this trail but it doesn't say how long it is i can hear water in the distance but i don't know and it is getting dark soon [Music] i tell you what it is raining it is getting dark so we're gonna tackle this tomorrow at some point and my idea for tomorrow we're gonna go to the farthest point in the park and then work our way back to the campground and that way we see you know all the stuff that we missed we'll meet in the middle hopefully the the fog will clear and we'll be able to to get those views of the the grand canyon of the east so yeah let's go back to the campground it's gonna get dark like dark like in half an hour so no point in and continuing see you tomorrow [Music] a good morning and yeah travel sometimes doesn't work as planned and according to my radar here it doesn't look good i think it's going to rain all day so we might make it a work day today and then tomorrow morning tomorrow we have to get out of here but check out it's not until like i don't know noon so maybe like early in the morning we can go see the falls or maybe this afternoon we'll go under the rain i don't know yet but i picked up all my camping gear here my my grill and my chairs because we're not gonna be able to do anything and now i'm gonna retract the awning because just in case we get wind but yeah these are these are remnants of that uh hurricane hurricane fred if you can see it there at the bottom that these are the remnants of hurricane fred that yeah it is what it is so since there's not much else we can do today i'm gonna cook we're gonna make some some shredded chicken so i put the chicken in there with some salt and pepper and we're gonna uh you know pressure boil it here for about an hour and then we'll shred it and do the sofrito mix and you'll be awesome [Music] okay we have the chicken going here but 17 minutes left i'm making some uh some yellow mexican rice over there which about eight 20 minutes left and then i just realized we are totally out of onions so what to do what to do but we're going to do extra peppers and we're going to do onion powder and some garlic yeah by the way these peppers from patty and bill from vermilion ohio and you know it's all organic and homegrown and yeah we're going to use them to cook our shredded chicken here [Music] salt black pepper garlic [Music] that's our chicken should be tender cooking wine paprika cumin oregano you know the usual suspects [Music] a little bit of cilantro for that extra touch of freshness see let's see it might need a little more salt actually it's delicious there's something odd about it probably the lack of of real onion but other than that i like it [Music] well the rain is not gonna stop and we're here so let's explore under the rain we've taken the longer but quicker route around the park and we are now coming in through the south entrance officially the portersville entrance and we're going to work our way north or northeast rather towards where the campground is located [Music] well we arrive at this first uh vista point and there's no trailhead information back there so we're just gonna go down these stairs and see what we can see it seems to be a nice view of uh of the of the canyon down there and as you can see this is the purple trail so this is that gorge rim trail that that is go goes all around the park [Music] that's the waterfall down there this may not be the best view but why not right very beautiful views of the canyon down there back and forth back and forth on all these switchbacks i see waterfalls we're definitely getting closer [Music] check it out a tributary actually a beautiful miniature version of the false yeah i had to do a double take [Music] [Music] oh yeah this is our first view of the upper falls here it's raining a little bit which we should i just would have brought the umbrella but in any case now we're gonna go to the next overlook the only bad thing is we have to go up those stairs you know that it's not gonna be that bad and this is another awesome cool little waterfall right here look at that i love it [Music] we could have continued on this purple gorge trail to see the other falls and all the viewpoints but we didn't come prepared to do a long hike so we're gonna take the car to go down to the next viewpoint this parking lot in particular is somewhat equidistant to upper falls scenic view and the middle falls lookout so maybe we can kill two birds oh yeah it's raining too much to go umbrella-less so le pere pleu village worth almost there almost there [Music] [Music] what can i say it's a rainy day but we are making the best of it beautiful beautiful beautiful waterfalls here at the upper falls at ledgeworth states park the grand canyon of the east very rainy day here in the empire state the remnants of hurricane tropical storm thread and it's gonna be raining all day so we decided you know what we're here we're not gonna stay cooked up inside the trailer might as well see something and uh it's beautiful it's beautiful the the canyon i think calling it the grand canyon might be over selling it to be honest about it but still you know it's uh there's no way to to to oversell that the beauty of that waterfall so let's continue there's a middle falls there's a lower false i don't know if we're gonna be able to see them all but so far we're loving it yeah this is definitely that iconic postcard like view of upper falls now we're gonna go see the middle falls and it should be about double what we hiked to to upper falls but here here on the on the gorge trail you know the blazes are this color what color is that is that pink magenta fuchsia i don't know in any case it should be it doesn't say that's the thing that they should have like until you know half a mile to middle falls they don't say i hear water we must be getting close oh look at that that's probably it right there not quite but we're almost there [Music] okay i take it back now it's starting to look more like a grand canyon very impressive very impressive view from behind the middle falls and the rain is relentless well this overlook is flooded so we're gonna have to go to the next one [Music] [Music] amazing simply amazing little fall middle falls so far the best one of two now we have to go see lower falls and we'll have a chance to compare let's get back to the car and continue as you can see instead of walking on that path down there we're just driving from vista point to vista point i think we can all agree that today the weather does not offer let's say optimal hiking conditions here to the left is the entrance to glen's iris inn a popular venue for weddings and such ready to be inspired well this one is called inspiration point so let's check it out they have this pond here and it is beautiful of course this is the one time we didn't bring the umbrella and i don't feel like going back to the car and get it so a little rain never killed anyone right we're ready to be inspired oh look at that and we even have a train going over the bridge way back there and yeah i totally take back what i said earlier about the grand canyon of the east whatever i said i take it back this is quite breathtaking it is an amazing place even under this grummy weather well inspiration point definitely lives up to its name from here we can see of course a little bit of upper falls middle falls of course is right there in the middle and lower falls is just around the corner and that's what we're trying to go see now lower falls which is with where we ended our our short expedition yesterday the lower falls is somewhere back there so that's what we're gonna try to see now [Music] [Music] let's continue towards lower falls but let's stop at this other lookout here real quick [Music] there's another great view of the canyon let's see if we can finally get to lower falls we're going towards lower falls here [Music] huge picnic area here there their lower false arch bridge doesn't say how far it is but i mean it is right there oh yeah we gotta get down there somehow [Music] well first we're gonna do the easy view of the falls which is a thousand feet that way as i said earlier we really could have done this whole trail all along the gorge but that would have taken several hours and more preparedness have we had nicer weather and here's our first view of lower falls and there is another trail down there and i think that's where we're going next but first let's get back to minitini get into some dry clothes and then we'll come back all right going back i think those stairs take you to the other trail but figures started raining again uh but at least you know relatively dry now so we're gonna go and see if we can go down all the way to that foot bridge down at the bottom of the gorge it's relentless we had like a half hour break in the weather and it's back in the case earlier we did the one on the right the easter easy view of the falls 1000 feet and now we're gonna do the stairway 127 steps [Music] i'm assuming there will be very few people doing this hike under these weather conditions but [Music] you know i didn't want to you know leave a ledgeworth state park here without coming to lower falls and don't tell anybody but today i didn't break my hiking shoes but i've got the vessels which are pretty competent as long as it's not slippery or anything like that and they're water resistant i can hear the water roaring so we must be getting really close whoa slippery [Music] it's a muddy mess [Music] [Music] there you go [Music] [Music] beautiful i'm gonna have to come up to the grass because it is really really muddy and slippery down there i really should have brought the proper hiking shoes for this one like i said but let's keep going let's see where that foot bridge is i don't see anything marked but i imagine it's gotta be through here right i hope it's not just liquid this does seem like a trail so it's gotta be through [Music] the bridge seems to be down there but first let's see if there's a view from here [Music] everything's so wet and whenever it gets muddy it gets really slippery with these shoes so i'm just gonna thread lightly here oh look at that view [Music] yep that's the bridge [Music] that's the view actually this is the view [Music] and here's looking back towards lower falls [Music] this is the danger zone right there let's head back let's go down to that bridge just once again really muddy down here yeah must be careful actually i'm gonna take this path here to the left yeah this seems like a better idea still slippery huh yeah it's it's a little bit of a mess but we've made it to the bridge and over there this is a great view of the falls as well just a little bit [Music] [Music] look at those canyon walls i mean that's what i say to see here's an even better view of the falls [Music] so [Music] that was a fun little hike not so little even in the pouring rain it was fun very slippery but it ended up being okay now we're gonna start heading back to the campground and we might stop at one or two of those overlooks just to weather permitting [Music] let's check out this view this is the archery field overlook [Music] [Music] yep pouring down now [Music] in my mind this area kind of looks like oh something i'm falling down kind of looks like a little bit like the blue ridge parkway you know it's that wooded you know winding road with these pullouts and i mean they have benches here so i guess it is okay to come out here so just for one other view of this uh this amazing meander here of the river and this may be slippery so i shall be careful [Music] look at that [Music] this is a picnic area here called wolf creek so let's check it out let's check out the creek i mean i'm not gonna do much because to be honest the weather doesn't call for for much more sightseeing this is the last thing i want to see [Music] beautiful area here wolf creek let me tell you there are so many places so many hiking trails in this park that we must return someday and hope for better weather that would be a nice sliding rock right there all this is of course part of that purple blazed gorge trail i'm thinking one of these days might be a good idea to do that whole trail you know that whole main trail that goes you know following the gorge remember we're doing for now i'm tired i think this is it for us here at latchworth state park unless we decide to do something tomorrow morning but it's been very very enjoyable it's another place i will definitely return to one of these days with more time and hopefully better weather beautiful park well good morning the reason i am wet is because this is the second take actually but i wanted to show you this is a cool uh system here that wanabego installed on this one it's kind of beta but you know if you want to have a hose like to clean things up like my block there you know it's been raining for two days straight so it's full of modulus plug it in and automatically it pressurizes and that's why i'm wet i didn't know it pressurized that quickly so you know you have like a as i was saying before the battery ran out is like having a garden hose here on the side of the rv and it's uh and it comes in really handy much much better than the than the outside shower i think for for this kind of thing if you just want to wash something real quick in any case just remember to depressurize before you disconnect it otherwise you can get wet now off to rochester we go we're going to have full hookups in rochester so no need to fill up with water or dump the holding tanks [Music] it says clearance 12 8. good thing i'm short it is a little over an hour drive from ledgeworth state park to the twilight on the erie campground the only place we could find that had vacancy on a weekend on short notice and was relatively close to rochester we're letting serendipity dictate this final part of the trip a little bit and here we are i don't know whether i find it fascinatingly unique and quirky or just a little bit creepy the decor is eclectic to say the least [Music] we've got a pretty nice pull through sight so let's explore a little bit [Music] we decided to visit the local pub twisted rail brewing in nearby macedon we've got some ipas at their cozy bar because that's what you do right and the fried veggies appetizer then lock number 30 on the erie canal and that's all for today good morning august 20th 2021 we just hit 200 000 subscribers and we're going to rochester [Music] it is a good 20 miles from the campground to rochester proper and it takes about half an hour [Music] [Applause] [Music] we want to visit the george eastman museum but it doesn't open until 10 a.m so we have about 30 minutes to kill so we're gonna stop by a pretty unique place here in downtown [Music] [Music] well there's a brewery right there by the way we're in rochester now but that's not our main destination right now wow check that out [Music] it definitely feels peculiar to see a waterfall of that magnitude in the middle of a large city it is called high falls this by the way the genesee river same river we saw at lechworth state park oh check out that rainbow the brewery by the way genesee brewing company and they do have a brew house so we'll be going there later but that is pretty impressive isn't it not the clearest of water is kind of muddy but you don't usually get to see a roaring waterfall like that in the middle of a downtown which is basically what this is downtown rochester new york very cool now we're gonna go to the george eastman museum which for any photographer i think would be a kind of a little bucket list destination and they're supposed to have the largest collection of photography in the world this is a this was a good start to our day here in rochester for sure let's go for a walk along the pedestrian bridge we can see the iconic times square building to me the embellishment atop looks like a lobster club but they're supposed to be wings [Music] they have a bunch of tables and chairs here because apparently yesterday they had some kind of dining event here on the bridge and it was closed you know just for dining but it's a very nice pedestrian bridge and of course that looks like a nice place you got a view of the of the waterfalls over there and over here you have the the other side of the bridge i mean it looks like there used to be another bridge down there oh here here they have a something saying what they had last night it was uh it's called dinner on the bridge august 19th rain dates just in case it rained it didn't rain last night i'm sure it was beautiful that would have been something nice to you know all those serendipitous things that would be nice to to experience when you come to a city all right let's go to the to the george eastman museum now [Music] here we are they just opened up the large photo of the taj mahal is one of 565 transparencies used as an advertising campaign on display at grand central station new york between 1950 and 1990 now let's go inside [Music] the first thing we encounter is the main galleries featuring photographic art collections i think the next section is the one that i'm going to enjoy the most this is called the motoscope it is an early motion picture device working on the same concept as a flip book and this a kinetoscope here's the legendary penivision panaflex the camera that revolutionized film making in part because of its nearly silent operation after its introduction in 1972 it became the camera of choice in hollywood [Music] and here's a 1928 motion craft deluxe projector one of the last silent movie projectors this is a daguerreotype dating back to 1839 depicting two girls this one is an ambro type which is a photographic process on glass this one dates back to 1860. this is what the 1967 lunar orbiter camera subsystem looked like it was used to map the surface of the moon looking for a suitable landing site it included a mini lab of sorts to develop the film and a scanner to transmit the images back to earth the 1988 tactical camera here is the oldest known digital single lens reflex or dslr [Music] on the left the first kodak amateur digital camera from 1995. [Music] here we have some stereographs from the late 1890s fascinating what can i say to me this room alone was worth the price of admission which by the way is 18 for adults at the time of our visit the gardens are closed due to construction which is a real bummer this is what they're supposed to look like [Music] now let's go see the george eastman mansion and we'll begin right here at the dining room [Music] this is the conservatory probably the most beautiful room in the whole house here's the aeolian organ and apparently mr eastman liked to have breakfast to the sound of heavy rolling cathedral tones he even had his own organist but also a player piano mechanism was attached to it so he could play it from his bedroom by remote control next the billiard room the place where mr eastman would entertain guests [Music] on the windows some of the means of transportation at the turn of the 20th century [Music] the next room is called the little library and it houses george eastman's extensive and meticulously catalogued book collection now stepping on to the entrance hall [Music] let's take the flying staircase to the second floor [Music] here once again the conservatory from a higher viewpoint and the elephant in the room [Music] the south oregon chamber this is believed to be the largest residential organ in the world it has 6 000 pipes and these are just a few of them [Music] george eastman committed suicide in 1932 at the age of 77. his suicide note read to my friends my work is done why wait [Music] this is one of those places i've been wanting to visit since childhood most of what i know about photography i learned from a book probably from the 1940s maybe early 50s and this book full of black and white pictures taught all the techniques on how to take good photos and even the development on the cover it read eastman kodak company rochester new york and we finally made it here [Music] so [Music] [Music] again really disappointed we can't visit the gardens but that just gives us an excuse to return one of these days [Music] check it out george eastman and thomas edison demonstrating code color film in 1928 [Music] worked up an appetite with all this museuming not to mention we decided to forgo breakfast in order to get here early so we are meeting patron chief pelican head and executive producer anthony giordano for lunch we're gonna try a local delicacy something called a garbage plate and this is where the famous concoction was invented nick tahoe hats a local iconic landmark here in rochester [Music] okay this is anthony by the way executive producer anthony so we're gonna eat at this this is like if you come to rochester this is the place right yes all right yeah and everything on yours yes that's simple all the same how about drinks root beer oh they've been here for what [Music] in 1918 was hot dogs originally and now it's the burger is the is the most um popular plate so with the burger garbage plate that's what we're gonna have okay well that's it so i have no idea how to eat this but we'll figure it out [Music] well we give anthony a ride back to his place he gives us a little bit of a tour for example here to the left we have women's rights and anti-slavery activists susan b anthony's house and on the next block to the right we encounter susan b anthony's square [Music] there um that susan b anthony and frederick douglass sitting down enjoying tea [Music] rochester so far very good looking town let me tell you [Music] this is highland park originally designed by frederick law olmsted one of the nation's first municipal arboretums [Music] here on the right by the corner a statue of american abolitionist frederick douglass let's stop here by this greenhouse called lamberton conservatory well this is highland park rochester's first park from 1883 right here by the way it was great and meeting up with anthony and uh now we're just here you know this park has like always uh very very nice gardens and there's a like a greenhouse yeah the greenhouse is called the lamberton conservatory and we're gonna check it out real quick i don't know if you can go inside [Music] let's see if we can go in i guess this is not the entrance [Music] it is so pleasant here and the admission fee is three dollars per adult not bad not bad at all so pleasant out here we will come back it seems beautiful in there [Music] actually enrique another pelican head from rochester contacted us and invited us to join him and his wife sandra for a refreshing india pale ale here at genesee brewery and who am i to say no to something like that [Music] let's have a beer here at at the genesee house historic and guinness [Music] that was really good that was a lot of fun there it is the iconic kodak building and with that we're going to say goodbye to rochester for now [Music] it rained all night so everything is wet today we're heading south towards the finger lakes [Music] it is about an hour and a half drive to the watkins glen koa which is our destination for today [Music] i never went to see the era canal i always we've seen it in other areas in any case i know the plants need the water and all that but man everything gets wet look at those little boats it's like boat tours that's pretty cool everything gets wet water gets everywhere especially when you're breaking camp on a rainy day now we're going to the famous watkins glen and that should be that's everybody has told us that we have to go there so so that's where we're going [Music] here we are arriving in geneva new york at the northern end of seneca lake the largest of the finger lakes [Music] geneva here major tourist destination gateway to the seneca lake wine trail and this here is kind of the northern terminus of such trail it is a very famous wine region and from here on south it's going to be winery after winery after winery until we get to watkins glenn [Music] [Applause] [Music] here we are finally arriving at watkins glen we're gonna have to drive through town to get to the campground and then we'll be back [Music] very very busy town lots of traffic typical touristy downtown but it is extremely cute and enrique recommended a barbecue place here i think it is the only barbecue place so that's where we're gonna have dinner after we drop the trailer [Music] [Music] here we are watkins glen koa resort and this is uh 100 will get you it's a bit overpriced i think but this is a case of location location location right you are in the heart of the finger lakes with all the wineries around and and they do have on the weekends like tonight they have like a concert and they do have all kinds of activities you know it's one of those resorts we got a leaky faucet here but other than that [Music] everything seems to work there's a nice view of seneca lake as we descend upon the town of watkins glen parking near the restaurant might be a little bit of a challenge what do you know it is our lucky day [Music] [Applause] this is franklin street the main drag here at what king's glen and we're going to walk around a little bit but not too far because we're kind of famished i'm really looking forward to some good eating and here it is nicole's pet barbecue and we got the the mess and i got the trifecta that was delicious now for dessert oh no it's melting irish cream that's good look at that two breweries side by side maybe tomorrow because we can't go back home without stopping by at least one of the wineries and they all close early so we must hurry and this is one of the closest ones to town lakewood vineyards [Music] it is a beautiful property [Music] by the way there is a concert at the campground but either i'm getting old or it is too darn loud well good morning we're gonna have some empanadas for breakfast and then we're gonna go for a little hike everybody's leaving the campground today by the way those empanadas remember sandra and enrique we met him at the brewery in rochester well sandra made him and enrique gave me a beautiful wooden american flag for pelican that he made himself there are three entrances to the park and we thought this was the main entrance but it is not this is the south entrance the one you would use if you were camping for example [Music] well we made it to watkins glen's state park the main thing to do here is the gorge trail and by coming in through the wrong entrance and going down these stairs instead of continuing straight we're going to get to the gorge at the halfway point not quite the halfway point but not at either end it'll just be a little confusing at first [Music] this is where it gets a little confusing because there's a south rim trail as well but the one we want to do is the one and a half mile long gorge trail and here's the suspension bridge [Music] that was a really cool view i hope we get to go down there okay indian trail this way words trail waterfalls i guess it is this way [Music] check it out we made it almost all the way to the bottom of the boards here [Music] i believe you're able to walk behind the waterfall it is called cavern cascade [Music] so [Music] yeah that's amazing i think we were just behind that waterfall that's awesome [Music] no matter where you look no matter the angle it is beautiful [Music] and this is it the century bridge and this is kind of the east entrance where we should have entered the park actually so um i think we're just gonna turn around right here now we're gonna do the whole trail as you're supposed to starting at the beginning [Music] see this is staircase of waterfalls beautiful we are here so we got all these waterfalls coming up that's very cool [Music] so [Music] some places exceed your expectations and so far this has definitely been one of those and here we go another waterfall right there [Music] pretty cool [Music] there's a tall one coming up and it is starting to get a little crowded here this one is called central cascade [Music] [Music] [Music] a lot of people here doing this trail too many people but still a gorgeous gorgeous trail [Music] just gorgeous just gorgeous here that way too look at yeah always remember to look back [Music] just unreal this one is called rainbow falls one thing is almost guaranteed you will get wet on this [Music] hike a lot of fun going behind the waterfall there this is gorgeous [Music] let me tell you something i'm glad we came early in a couple of hours this is probably gonna be insanely crowded this upper part of the trail is much flatter with just a few stairs here and there [Music] that's it the railroad bridge the end of the trail there's a stairway called jacob's ladder but we're just gonna turn around now [Music] and that's it we made it all the way to jacob's ladder and that's like the western entrance to the park so we decided not to do it we're gonna return now to the we're at the southern entrance [Music] to me this is the prettiest part of the hike [Music] we're going to take lover's lane on the way back yeah this is an alternate trail a spur if you will with views from a higher perspective this is lover's lane lookout [Music] should i photobomb them maybe not 1908 the year lover's lane was built all right south entrance that way so that should be our exit [Music] so in total according to mr fitbit here so far two hours on the trail three miles that's all we've done but i'm gonna check the elevation now the elevation has to be you know of the charts but my fitbit doesn't say but according to ely's apple watch we did 27 flights upstairs which yeah this is the main entrance to the park right here on the left who wants to go to a brewery actually we are more hungry than thirsty but we'll see and once again we get lucky with parking here we go craft beer flights and pints let's try finger lakes beer company here no food that's no good well epic fail the place we wanted to come to eat is closed and the place next door with the beer company they don't sell food so we're gonna go someplace else [Music] we ended up at this place called winnery it's got good reviews we've got some onion rings poutine and their specialty the brat i think we have to do at least one more winery here in the finger lakes region and at some point we may come back and do more but today just one and i just drove past it because i don't know how to drive this is fox run vineyards and this is one of the big ones it opens until six and it has a tasting room a cafe market tours gift shop the works so let's check it out the views from the balcony are supposed to be amazing that's all you get with the flight by the way the wines really really great and really nice views of seneca lake but it felt somewhat impersonal it wasn't a proper tasting it was more like a flight like what you would get at a brewery for example and it does make a difference when you get a bartender who explains the tasting notes and tells you a little bit about the wine here you just get five samples with a card which isn't necessarily bad just not what i expected we decided to come all the way to geneva since we were kind of close already and we couldn't stop yesterday with a trailer in tow [Music] places like this are best enjoyed with some kind of watercraft [Music] now we're going back south on the eastern shore which is also dotted with numerous vineyards being part of the wine trail [Music] and with that another day comes to an end tomorrow we're going down to corning a town you may have heard it's famous for its glass [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] well good night [Music] we're on our way to corning new york and the farther south we get the more mountainous it becomes corning by the way where we're going population 11 000 best known for being the headquarters of the company formerly known as corning glassworks founded in 1851 nowadays just corning incorporated they are responsible for many innovations in the world of glass ceramics advanced optics from the telescope mirror at palomar observatory in california to spacecraft windows and hubble telescope they invented pyrex corel dinnerware and the gorilla glass used on the iphone since its first iteration and many other mobile devices in 1951 marking their 100th anniversary they founded the corning museum of glass and here we are corning museum of glass first things first they're having a glass making demonstration at the hot shop so let's see that first and then the rest of the museum shaping the glass but we're cooling it as well the core bubble on the inside is now wrapped up in that fresh gather glass that's going to take on that heat and start to move around on us we wait for the temperature to even out throughout all of the material before we begin to inflate it because the air is always going to follow the path of least resistance wherever the glass is hottest that's where it's softest so that's where it's going to inflate so by controlling the temperature we can control how the glass moves and where it will inflate it takes a good amount of years to become skilled with this material and then spiral it a little bit further inflating it the whole while you can hear the clicks of the foot pedal this is a really challenging technique but it creates a really nice texture on the surface of the glass we have to work really efficiently whenever we use those optic molds is the optic molds draw temperature out of the glass and create those ridges and as long as we don't have to read the glass 10 times we won't melt that away so in order to keep that texture on the surface we have to work really quickly with that heat or corgi that we have from re-kneading the glass just before we use the octagon i'm not going to show you the whole presentation it is rather lengthy but fascinating nonetheless the skillful craft of glassmaking [Music] we'll begin with the contemporary art and design galleries [Music] this one is called global cities and it represents major cities of the world and their population change over the years very interesting [Music] [Music] this one is called cefalopratus riverhead four hearts ten brains blue blood drained through an alembic no comment [Music] i was not prepared for the sheer size of this place i mean it goes on and on and on and we're only at the first gallery [Music] let's take a break from the contemporary art gallery and go into the innovation center which is a little more what i had in mind when i first thought of visiting this museum in particular i like the art galleries too don't get me wrong but this is a little more in my wheelhouse i'm fascinated particularly by optics and how we can reflect and refract light in different ways here's the 1924 200 inch disc from palomar observatory oh the fresnel lenses used to focus the light beam and make it visible from farther distances to this day used on lighthouses among other uses [Music] george that's really trippy [Music] next in sparkling company plus and the cost of social life in britain during the 1700s [Music] 35 centuries of glass here is according to the museum website the most comprehensive and celebrated glass collection in the world and i believe it it covers pretty much every epoch every culture [Music] it is almost overwhelming i mean i've never seen and probably never see again as many different glass objects in the same room it is fascinating to see but a little too much it is one of those museums that you should maybe do like two separate visits so you can fully appreciate everything that is on display [Music] wow bohemian glass [Music] next time i come to a museum like this please remind me to turn off the front camera on the gopro it makes for an unsightly reflection sometimes wow this is amazing [Music] overwhelmed yet well we only have the tiffany studios gallery to go they even have a section dedicated to wine bottles and glasses [Music] [Applause] [Music] well it is an overwhelming museum let me tell you and i don't think we even saw everything because it is like i mean you could spend the whole day in there and let's see every piece that they have but yeah that was very cool very cool to see now now i don't know what we're gonna what we're gonna do maybe explore the town of corning since we're here the corning museum of glass has got to be one of the most complete glass museums ever and what better location to have it than a city which is practically a synonym of high-tech glass not to mention its namesake [Music] it seems to be a charming town [Music] so [Music] there is one more point of interest we want to visit today and that is harris hill the soaring capital of the world [Music] they have all kinds of attractions including an airport where you can actually ride on a glider but we didn't plan for that so we're just going to stop by the overlook taking the views and continue [Music] here on the left is the end of the runway and when they are flying you can see them take off right over your head must be quite something [Music] yep that's the end of the runway right there very nice views from up here is that the shumang river i see [Music] let's check out the airfield real quick and there's also a museum here but suffice to say we are museumed out for today by the way they are a harvest host so maybe next time right now there is one more thing to do let's go back into town and see if that brewery is open [Music] [Music] and roosterfish is open but they are severely understaffed they even have a sign saying that sitting will be limited and service may take long it's a double dan ipa cheers and we're right here on the street in fact there's only one guy taking care of the whole place we got some nachos and a burger and life is good oh that certainly hit the right spot oh yeah we finally were able to to eat here at the brewery and i think that would be a fitting end to our video here of the finger lakes watkins glen corning and uh right now we're gonna do something crazy we're going back to florida it's gonna take three days to go back to florida and then we're doing the hershey rv show we're doing the open house and then we're coming right back here and we're gonna pick up where we left but in a totally different season that's gonna be fun wanna know what's the quickest way from upstate new york down to florida you're about to find out and i don't really know if this is the quickest way but it is probably the most efficient way while avoiding i-95 altogether and there is a much more scenic drive riding [Music] riding in my rv wherever i want to be because i'm free in my rv yeah i'm writing writing writing i'm riding in my rv my rv wherever i want to be [Music] this is such a gorgeous area as you saw we crossed into pennsylvania and here's the plan the idea behind this 2000 mile plus detour is in part well florida is our home state and there are things we need to do there but also timing we want to catch the northeast at its best and we've heard fall you know where the leaves start turning and all that we've heard it is the best time to visit so we're delaying our arrival to vermont by a little over a month so that's the plan [Music] we're more or less halfway across pennsylvania here in selinsgrove in the middle of the susquehanna river valley and home to susquehanna university i'm riding riding in my rv wherever i want to be and cause i'm free in my rv yeah i'm writing writing writing i'm riding in my rv my rv wherever i want to be because i'm free in my rv [Music] [Music] [Applause] because i'm free [Music] oh cause i'm whenever i want to be [Music] [Music] wherever i want to be 287 after my good sign discount we haven't seen those gas prices since iowa i don't think so yeah flying j here in virginia i see mountains on the horizon and mountains make me happy we're slowly approaching my favorite part of appalachia [Music] do [Music] originally we were thinking of making it a walmart night but we've decided to stay at claytor lake state park instead [Music] we just arrived here it's getting late but i wanna see i think the lake is like right there so let's check it out tomorrow morning we'll come back look at that did you see all those deer that was awesome but it is getting kind of dark and there's supposed to be bear around here so i'm just going to go back to the campsite get some to eat yeah sunset just happened back there good morning we're gonna go see if we can see the lake [Music] [Music] [Music] what a beautiful lake what a great discovery [Music] today the goal is to sleep somewhere in georgia and we've got a little bit of traffic here on i-81 south [Music] we're taking i-77 south towards charlotte and we're gonna be going downhill here for quite a few miles and coincidentally this is the point where we're gonna start saying goodbye to the mountains [Music] [Applause] we are now in north carolina [Music] this is the rest area just uh about 20-25 miles north of mooresville and if you recall on the fall trip of 2018 i was going to the to the hershey rv show still with old kia and this is the the very rest area on the on that other side on the northbound side where i decided to abort the trip and go back about 24 miles to mooresville of course those were the last 24 miles the old key i ever told minitini [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] south carolina here we come preheating the convection microwave to to bake a pizza and it turns out the convection microwave preheating consumes almost 2 000 watts so i had to turn off the ac i found everything from tops to be kind of salty so we'll see how this pizza turns out i turned on the ac and and the convection microwave we're consuming to 2508 watts doesn't coincide with these 3.2 kilowatts maybe because solar is playing a part in that i don't know we've got a better view we're pulling what 86 percent of the total load of the inverter 25 97 25.98 that inverter is a beast it's running the ac and the convection microwave at the same time well i spoke too soon we actually did overload not the battery not the inverter but actually the physical breaker down there and i had a tough time figuring out what was going on what was wrong but eventually we did and now we have once again air conditioner and the pizza cooked reasonably well now i'm gonna make some coffee and georgia here we come it is not the most scenic drive so i'll spare you the details suffice to say that a little over three hours later georgia is on our minds [Music] as we cross the savannah river welcome to georgia oh thank you yeah we are now in the peach state and we're feeling peachy going back to the kia incident one thing we've learned as long-term travelers is that we have to get used to the idea that things don't always go as planned or that it is okay to sometimes on a whim just change your route or where to spend the night so we decided to try yet another of the beaten path state park and hamburg lake here seems to have some first come first served sights i spoke to the campground host and she told me which sites were available [Music] no no pelican it is a beautiful campground and that is our first come first serve site [Music] and these are the nice sights by the lake but apparently they were all taking [Music] this one i am definitely adding to the list what a beautiful campground [Music] [Music] we're on the home stretch tonight we're sleeping at pelican can't wait to see it we haven't been there since almost seven weeks ago when's the last time we saw one of this [Music] so eventually we made it to macon got on i-75 stopped at buckys after valdosta georgia 31 south and right after crossing the with la cucci river we're back in the sunshine state welcome to florida thank you yeah it is starting to look like pelican [Music] and we've finally made it to our eastern panhandle retreat pelican and it wouldn't be the sunshine state if we didn't get a summer afternoon downpour right [Music] i was gonna turn on the well but forget about it we'll wait until it stops and this happens to be the end of the summer 2021 season and i hope you enjoyed it as much as we did as always thank you so much for watching and see you on the road [Music] i'm writing riding in my rv wherever i want [Music] [Applause] [Music] my wherever i want to be
