this video is brought to you by Squarespace the all-in-one website platform for entrepreneurs to stand out and succeed online I asked you guys on Twitter to send me your hot takes and unpopular opinions and now I'm going to talk about them I tell you guys to form your own opinions all that damn time and this is me judging those opinions and putting them to the test and Tano did it for music Arlo did it for video games and this is me doing what I got to do for the film community so let's dive into these the Disney Live Action remakes are an effective way to introducing a new generation of these classic stories yeah they are a way to introduce a new generation to these classic stories with these live-action remakes yeah you're introducing them to these stories but you're introducing them to the stories through the blandest lens imaginable they aren't seeing the same magic and charm that we got to see you know I wouldn't call it the most effective way because of that find me a kid who likes the live action Under the Sea more than the original Under the Sea it's impossible I really do think there are other more effective ways they could go about introducing a new generation to these classic stories maybe a more modern animation style perhaps I mean do something like Puss in Boots or stop motion I don't know I'm not in charge we modernize other live action films as remakes why not try it with animation and even if remaking an animated movie as a more modern looking animated movie is equally as pointless I think that is at least more entertaining and enjoyable for kids Cars 2 is a great film yes it doesn't have the emotional moments of Toy Story 3 but it's a lot of fun you're right it does not have the emotional moments of Toy Story 3. listen maybe if I were under the influence of some extremely strong substances then yeah I can see Cars 2 being a fun time but I'm not planning on doing any of that anytime soon if I did have plans to do that I'm not putting on cars too and even if I did consider Cars 2 to be a decent time you just cannot look me in the eye and tell me that it's a great film I'ma say it Scorsese making three plus hour movies now is just self-indulgent the flex of how much money he has and honestly kind of lazy due to no story fat being trimmed what happened to making movies related to the endurance of the human bladder Marty trying to give us UTIs you're not wrong it is is a little self-indulgent but one I think Marty gets to indulge a little bit at this point right I was getting a Scorsese epic every few years isn't a terrible thing two it isn't like he's ever been known to keep things brief look at the run times for Casino The Aviator Gangs of New York these aren't far from three hours plus his two most recent films are both produced by streaming services which I think lets him get away with being a bit bulkier with his run times because he knows people are going to be able to pause and go to the bathroom and also Scorsese is one of those filmmakers that leaves a lot of unnecessary fat in his films the Irishman is a very dense movie with very few scenes that I felt needed to be cut you feel like you've lived a Life by the end it's more impressive that rather than sacrificing essential scenes him and Thelma managed to make the edit feel thrilling for as long as they do and that's the thing right he just wants to make big movies at this point in his life sure it's a bit of a flex but I see it less as that and more as him taking advantage of being Martin Scorsese while he's still able to make movies Barry season 4 was rushed and it felt like Bill Hader just wanted to be done it might have felt pretty quick yeah just due to the run time it's hard to fit that much stuff into 35 minutes and yeah hater's directing style is clearly very minimal so a lot of the setups might seem super simple I guess and maybe you're right I'd imagine hater was ready to wrap it up at this point but in my opinion the last season just went even deeper into surrealism and felt really unsettling for the most part which is not as easy as it seems if anything the fact that he keeps it so minimal and is very picky about what he decides to shoot it shows that there was a lot more thought put into the season than in the past it feels like everything was super deliberate it definitely felt less straightforward and plotty than earlier Seasons so I can see it feeling rushed and unfocused sure personally I don't feel I didn't feel like it was like that but I can see someone feeling that way personally I thought each episode went deeper into the hole than the last one and and did so in a pretty surprising way Spider-Man homecoming is the best Spider-Man movie ever it's everything a Spider-Man movie should be in what World hey I mean I think it's the best of this new batch no doubt it really Embraces the teen high school Vibe or whatever but if we're counting the spider-verse movies those literally have all the best elements of this movie and more and if we're not counting those movies the same can be said about the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man everyone has their own taste but like hey what exactly is this doing to make it the best Spider-Man movie I have to know the Matrix only needs the first one every sequel after that is redundant this isn't a ridiculous take to be honest and that's coming from someone who doesn't hate the sequels on one hand if they had stopped at the first Matrix I would be fine and happy about it because that movie is so damn good that it could have just lived on its own but it's also a fascinating Concept in world that was so rich with detail that for anyone curious to explore more of it these aren't completely redundant if any movie was going to go deeper into you know the meta commentary route this is a good series to do so and it's cool to see the action set pieces evolve the characters also feel a little surface level in the first one it was nice to see them flesh out these people more and more Matrix Revolutions though is the one I really don't like it's a good example of a concept being stretched so thin that it's almost unrecognizable from where it originally came from So speaking strictly about that movie I do kind of agree with you that it sours itself in some ways at that point but I'm also so glad that the second one exists I'll always defend the fourth one um but yeah I mean if they never existed I probably would you know I'd be fine Mad Max Fury Road is overly stylized and wacky to the point where I cannot take it seriously people only like it for its visuals and set designs oh brother well firstly loving a movie only for its visuals and set designs is a good enough reason for in my book to love a movie especially when we're talking about something like Fury Road a movie that has a crisp confident and extreme look about it that nobody has been able to replicate since the visuals alone are a work of art they don't feel over stylized or that they take away from the emotion of the film they are the film they add to this monstrous feeling it has if that isn't your thing it isn't not your thing but I mean you gotta at least appreciate it which it sort of seems like you do based on this tweet but in my opinion it's way more than that for me a film can't entirely rely on those two things and Fury Road is is not an exception it also has simple yet moving performances booming sound design and music some of the best action if not the best action of that decade to strip away these elements as well as the spiritual undertone of it it just wouldn't hit nearly as hard proving there is way more to love and appreciate about it than just the visuals but again if it isn't your thing it isn't your thing the menu was the best film that came out last year um sure if it was the only film that came out last year the fact that Goro Miyazaki has directed multiple films as an accomplishment in and of itself and his dad should not be so hard on him trying to match Hayao miyazaki's bar for quality is a near impossible task I agree absolutely even though I very publicly do not like earwig and the witch I feel kind of bad for Goro Miyazaki he's like the real-life Kendall Roy except also not at all what a terrible why did I say that's not true you're right it's pretty much impossible to ever match that bar but and and I can't speak for the man himself I doubt he's actively trying to do that with his art right that's not what creating art is about I don't know the man personally I I actually barely know anything about him so I don't actually know why he's making these but you're right being able to make even one single feature film specifically an animated feature film that's that's a success that said he does happen to know a guy that works at the studio which I can't hurt his chances and I kind of respect the attempt to go 3D at the very least it was kind of like well we got that out of our system now let's never do that again but yeah as much as I don't like the one Goro Miyazaki movie I've seen I think he is in a difficult position and I agree I don't think his dad should be too hard on him with a body of work like that I promise his movies will not make a dent in your legendary reputation is he a good filmmaker so far I don't think so but um you know I'm rooting for him and I think that's gonna do if you want to get in on the next episode follow me on Twitter and as always thanks for watching get out there inform your own opinion and before you head out I want to thank this
