whole wonderful person this is Anton and today we're going to be talking about the so called exotica catalog that was released by the SETI Institute to help scientists studying various different anomalies and various different phenomena to kind of get an idea of what we already know about the universe around us it's an extremely important catalog but in this video I wanted to focus on 11 different anomalies identified in the catalog that currently make absolutely no sense to us in other words let's talk about these scientific anomalies identified by SETI that are most likely not aliens but I guess you never know now the catalog itself includes about 700 different entries and all of them are extremely extremely well researched but I wanted to focus on the outliers and as they refer to them anomalies this paper identifies five classes of different nominees with the first three being just a physical phenomenon that we can kind of explain but with some uncertainties but the class 4 and class 5 anomalies therefore we need an extra investigation because they are well they're kind of weird there's a lot of things in there that don't make sense and so let's talk about some of the bigger ones here the first one I wanted to mention in this video is something we haven't really talked about much and also something that hasn't really been discussed much in scientific papers but it's known as the impossible triple star in other words it's a triple star system many of which we've already discovered in the past but in this case when the scientists were looking at this triple star system and specifically here it was the Kepler telescope looking at the dips of the star as it passes around its partner these scientists after four years realize that these dips made absolutely no sense no triple system should be producing these dips and no orbital configuration could explain what the scientists were observing there are many different simulations and none of it made sense so they thought that maybe there are four stars here maybe we're just not seeing one of the stars and one of these simulations did show some similarity to a very complex four body system but even that was not really truly explaining what's happening here and so even today the scientists have no idea what's going on in this particular star system the observations of dips around these stars simply make no sense and something else is going on here but we just have no idea what it is either physically or even astronomically at the end of the paper the scientists even state we urge further observations to uncover the true nature of this remarkable object because right now there is really no explanation now that's number one number two anomaly comes closer from home and it's something we've actually discussed previously on this channel it's the detections of extremely powerful neutrinos coming from inside our planet a few years ago the scientists discovered that some of the real powerful neutrinos were actually coming from inside of the ice and it made absolutely no sense because normally these types of neutrinos are only formed in some really extremely powerful events like for example supernova or distant black holes but because it was coming from inside our planet and not from the top where it should have been coming from there's been a lot of speculation trying to discover what's going on some of the articles online even suggested that this was discovery of the parallel universe where time runs backward but ice prince we mentioned in one of the videos that this is not what the scientists think at all today there's really no good explanation to what we might have been seen but sound explanations include maybe something happening inside the ice under Antarctica or maybe some kind of unknown reflective feature of ice that we've never investigated before there could be other explanations but it really wouldn't be an anomaly if we knew what's happening here another unusual event was also attacted in Antarctica but this time it was neutrinos coming from exactly the same point in the sky within about 100 seconds of each other this was known as the unit reading a multiplet event and it's an event that we don't really expect to happen and it's you know coming from exactly the same point on the sky should happen every fourteen years or so but this time we had three neutrinos coming from exactly the same point within about 100 seconds and the most mysterious part is that there was nothing in that part of the sky that should have been producing these neutrinos to begin with no powerful events including black holes and supernovae were detected from this area so it was literally coming from in the middle of empty space and although it doesn't sound like it's a very important event for astrophysicists and especially for particle physicists this was an extremely rare and very hard to explain anomaly that they still have no idea how to explain which is of course why it's part of the anomaly list as well and now we come to a very large list of anomalies that have been happening for many years but most of them because of the lack of explanation have basically become kind of abandoned because we just don't know what happens one such event is a gamma-ray transient or gamma-ray explosion in the sense that happens for less than one second and because it was so quick and nothing else was detected coming from this direction even today we still have no idea what happened it's as if something just suddenly explore it disappeared and that so whether we'll be able to answer what happened here or whether it's going to remain a mystery I guess only future will tell but the thing is this is not the only such explosion we found a lot more similar events some lasting only a few minutes or this one right here lasted for several years this was in a galaxy known as M 86 and although technically we should be able to explain what happened here currently the scientists have no idea why this unusual x-ray transient or this x-ray explosion was happening for so long and what could have caused it of Audion amo is related to gamma rays in x-rays this one was the longest so not having an explanation to what caused this is a little bit troublesome but there were also similar anomalies in other types of light as well even optical light back in 1989 scientists published this paper that described a very similar explosion but in optical light in visual light that disappeared just as mysteriously as it appeared and even today after pretty much several decades we still have no explanation for what happened here it may have actually recurred several times and lasted for several minutes but just like that then stopped suddenly and never reappeared again but there are a lot of other optical phenomena that are still not explained as well including this right here this was an unusual afterglow not really an explosion just a sudden appearance of light that just like that disappeared after a while and most of these unusual phenomena are all kind of very different they don't seem to be coming from the same event or same type of object this right here was a very strange flaring a red object that flared for a little bit produced a lot of red light and then once again disappeared and has not been detected since but of all of these unusual explosions transients and flashes that we can't explain the two most famous ones must be this right here 82,000 18 cowell that were still kind of trying to explain what this was one of the brightest flashes we've ever seen and another smaller visual explosion known as dougie that lasted for a few weeks and then disappeared to never appear again both of these very bright flashes have been studied for a very long time but even today we're still having trouble explaining what exactly caused them so this is just to give an idea that there are so many different flashes happening all the place but because some of them are so different and don't seem to share any features with common flashers like for example with supernova we are having trouble explaining what may have caused these events and a couple of years ago I've talked about this event this was another unusual explosion but this time in infrared and as of today this event also has no explanation it was a very unusual infrared explosion that disappeared just as suddenly as it appeared and since this was the only unusual event happening in the system in the last couple of years we haven't really been able to explain what happened in that particular moment and why it suddenly changed its luminosity by so much but all these transients all these flashes so far in x-ray gamma-ray visual light infrared light all them technically can be natural something could have exploded and produced all of this energy and so in that sense for satya twist it might not be as interesting the more interesting observations come from radio light observations and there are quite a lot of anomalies in radio waves as well for example if you are took near the center of our own galaxy essentially at the Milky Way itself there is a very unusual area here that produces strange radio bursts that last for about 10 minutes and reoccur every 77 minutes with a frequency of about three hundred and thirty megahertz we don't really know what produces these radio frequency bursts but this scientists right now nicknamed this burst burper because it looks like burps coming out of this region and we really have no idea what's causing them and just like with other types of light including x-ray gamma ray the visual light there are also these radio bursts that happen for no reason whatsoever some look like explosions but only in radio waves for example we have some of them like this one right here that only lasted a few seconds some lasted a few minutes some lasted a few hours but the record here belongs to the object known as first j14 1989 this unusual radio burst lasted for nearly a decade and the only possible explanation here is well this right here this is not very likely but it's the only one that makes sense a jet from a black hole hitting something on the way and transforming into a radio wave but even that has we have been confirmed or accepted by all of the sciences so as of today this is the strangest radio bursts were detected and there are a lot and a lot more of these transients these unusual explosions in various frequencies that have been detected over the past few decades and many many of them still have no explanation and apart from just births themselves there are also a few sources of radio waves or essentially radio signals that have been constant over time they haven't changed much and though some of them come from radio galaxies we have no idea what's truly causing the actual radio signals themselves and what's interesting about some of these radio sources is that they only seem to appear in radio waves so here three objects specifically 3 c1 2 v 3 C 4 3 1 & PM ng 1715 1 do not actually have any visible counterpart in other words if you were to look at visible light here and if you were to look at the radio waves you would only see these objects in radio wave frequencies and there would be absolutely nothing there in optical light or in any other frequencies and this is one of the reasons these objects have been added as an anomaly and we really can't explain what's happening there another strange radio phenomenon that still hasn't been explained is also once again in the center of our galaxy it's this right here it's known as the Galactic radio center or arc and its current origins are a mystery we don't know what caused it and we have no idea what could have produced these unusual formations but this region right here is where the supermassive black hole in our galaxy is so some scientists believe that maybe this is actually the magnetic lines caused by the black hole interaction if so this would be a very interesting discovery but they seem to only happen in one specific region of the galaxy but this still hasn't been confirmed and if there is magnetic lines nothing else around the black hole seems to be affected by them and also they only seem to be happening in that one specific region so whatever is happening here is a mystery and what created these unusual arcs is also an anomaly but then we also have similar unusual sources of gamma radiation in our galaxy as well one such an usual source of gamma rays is right here and once again once look at this location and gamma-rays and then try to look at an invisible light you'll find absolutely nothing in there whatever is causing these gamma ray emissions is invisible in every other frequency it's only visible in gamma rays and there are at least two different sources we know of that do seem to produce these emissions but the most unusual of these so-called gamma ray missions with no origin or no source are known as dark accelerators this one here is one of the more famous ones and for the most part once again we have no idea what's happening here but these gamma ray emissions seem to be some of the most powerful gamma rays we've ever detected but once you look at this location in different light again you'll find absolutely nothing they seem to have nothing there and this creates a very big mystery what can possibly create the most powerful radiation possible without any other counterpart in the region it doesn't seem to be in your black order there's no x rays coming from this region there is also no known phenomenon to explain any of this and so whatever craze is most powerful gamma rays in the universe is currently invisible and pretty much impossible to explain and the exotica catalog lists at least two of these dark accelerators or these very mysterious gamma ray emitters of the most powerful radiation in the universe but would absolutely no other radiation emitted to explain what's causing this but this is just some of the mysteries and some of the anomalies mentioned in the catalog there are so many more mysteries and so many more scientific discoveries that haven't really been explained and we are probably not going to explain them for a very long time this is why the exotica catalog is one of the more important pieces of publication not just from SETI but just from any scientific community in the last few decades it allows us to finally sort of establish the grounds for what we know but most importantly for what we really don't know and by knowing what we don't know we can then start looking for answers but to be realistic it's very likely we're probably not going to be able to answer many of these questions for a very very long time so many of these will remain as anomalies for many years to come but it does give us a reason to keep looking and to keep trying to answer the questions I do recommend you check out the car south of the city publications are in description rule and also if you've enjoyed this video don't forget to subscribe share this was song who was learning about space and Sciences and come back tomorrow to learn something you may have not known before also maybe support HTML page one and maybe support a channel by buying the wonderful person
