on today's episode I'm gonna show you some of the most underrated OverDrive's in the pedal industry they're fantastic and you need to know about them before we get going a couple things I am gonna use the boss DD 200 delay cuz it's awesome tons of settings and it kind of helps me play through a lot of OverDrive's and fill some creative inspiration when I start running out of riffs and secondly these are all over drives you can currently buy brand-new so nothing discontinued nothing vintage I know that some of you want that we'll do that later today it's underrated over drives that you can go right now and buy let's do it starting right now first up is an overdrive pedal that I paid 1565 for on rebored $15.65 you can buy it new for forty to forty five dollars it is the TC electronic cinders overdrive it's fantastic it's based around the Blues driver circuit it's in a metal casing it's magical I'm gonna play a strat through it with some analog echo setting on this boss delay it's really good so prepare to like it [Music] number two is the fender MTG la this is designed with the help of the famous ant designer Bruce igniter of big nader amplifiers and it has in it what's the tube Nick it's a 6205 NOS tube I have problems with numbers and that's why Nick is here it's fantastic it has a boost on it I'm not gonna bother with that because I just want to focus on how good the overdrive is these pedals need more love go buy the fender stuff and I don't get paid to say this I just like the pedals I'm serious listen to this with the strap and digital delay [Music] [Applause] [Music] next up is the source audio la lady OverDrive's I go to LA from time to time and I'm not sure I'm not sure what the names implying but I like the pedal is I don't know what's in Le lady maybe there's some on the screen right now I don't know but this pedal is awesome it's full DSP now this means it's a digital overdrive pedal and I can feel you being uncomfortable you're squirming you probably got up to get something to eat you're thinking this can't be good it's fantastic it's one of the best overdrive pedals in this room full of pedals and you're gonna notice as I play it's super dynamic as I pick lighter and softer I have it on the smooth setting I've got some low five delay underneath it with that same Stratocaster it's really awesome and the crazy thing about this as you can load any of their fuzz algorithms from their fuzz pedal there's a library of tons of drives so you can load in like choosing from dozens and dozens if not hundreds of sounds into this exactly what you want and there's even users who have gone on and created some of our big muff modifications I heard the Morning Glory OverDrive's in there that's probably not good for me but you can load an algorithm that's similar to my morning glory in this it's really crazy the LA lady is awesome [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] next up is the analog alien bucket seat this is a favorite pedal of Billy Gibbons and is a cross between like a 69 Marshall plexi cranked and an orange rocker 30 so it's very very very British you could say like I say British not British British I don't know it's a great pedal I'm gonna play with my built bridge humbucker and I'm gonna dime it out I've got some drum echo going on on the boss delay fantastic [Music] [Music] [Music] next up is the Strymon riverside overdrive now this is exciting for two reasons one of those reasons is I keep seeing comments that say things like and I quote Josh never shows Strymon I don't think he likes Strymon he must have a problem with those guys come on i I've shown some Strymon I have tons of Strymon we're all friends I love their company so let's not do that thing we're like if I don't show a brand all the time it means I hate them let's move on from that that's like a special little segment of the show next is you would not expect striving to be in an overdrive shootout like you just wouldn't expect to see that because they're you know great delays and verbs and modulations but I love this multistage Riverside Drive and it's cool because it's kind of in the source audio vein but it has a true class a FET stage that goes into DSP gain stages and it's really really fantastic I'm gonna set it up in the normal mode which doesn't have the mid push so I would kind of see the mid mode as like a tubescreamer ii thing and then normal is not and this is replicating and pulling sounds from famous tube amps and overdrive pedals it's just a really nice dirt machine I am going to use my built and I'm gonna put it on the Jaguar pickup and a little bit of analogue slap delay [Music] [Music] and now we have the cusack screamer overdrive now yes it's based on a tube screamer there are tons of tube screamers but I want to tell you something I've known about this pedal for almost 10 years I've known John for a while and I think this is one of the coolest tube screamer takes out there and I got a quote from him today talk to him because I just want to refresh this story in my mind and here's the quote from John Cusack the designer of this directly to you about this pedal yes there's a secret as to why it has better note clarity and lower non harmonic distortion than any other tube screamer copy it's obvious but nobody's ever figured it out I know the secret that's why I like it I can't tell you the seeker there wouldn't be a secret but what I can say is it has a secret and now that you know it has a secret it's kind of your secret you can go share this pedal with people the secret that you don't really know the answer to I just like saying secret let's play it we're gonna put on some delay I want to go back to that strat check it out [Music] next up is the Greer Southland harmonic overdrive this is a high gain version of Greer's really popular light speed and it has a really interesting position where the mids are located and where they kind of poke through this thing really stands out at a mix it's fantastic I'm gonna play my built through it and you know what we don't need any stinking delay for this pedal I'm just gonna play some medium gain high gain distortion with a humbucker and we're gonna move on we're just gonna listen to it we don't need delay I'm gonna just just turn the delay off right now turn it off [Music] [Music] next up is not a tube screamer it is a seymour duncan pedal but not this one it came from this one because this is their version of a tube screamer that's highly modified but then they got even crazier and released the Forza which is a modified version of their modified tube screamer this is intense there's a lot of modifications going on here and it's fantastic now I'm gonna go out on a limb and I'm gonna say some things that are believable yet probably unbelievable and they are I think this thing gets in the high-gain claun territory very well and I add to that it's kind of the high-gain Larry Carlton dumbbell thing I can't believe I just said the D word but I said it because this does it really well it also does transparent stuff but I'm gonna crank the drive I'm gonna put on some delay here some digital and i'm gonna play the Collings that i have it's like a Les Paul Junior with p90 s just listen to it it's your call [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] next is the mxr sugar drive it's real small look it's like it's super small it's a tiny pedal here's the deal guys let me just shoot real straight with you it's a clone clone it's done really well it's in a small enclosure it even has the buffer on and off switch like the KTR and I text Jordan strips this morning and he said it's actually based on the super rare blue klahn nobody's ever seen [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] last but definitely never positively not least is the barber gain changer this pedals fantastic and the guy who makes them David barber is an industry legend he's been around forever he is boutique personified he's an awesome designer like such a crazy history maybe I should do an episode on him one day let me know in the comments I can talk him into it if I get enough comments but this pedal kind of evolves from these Ltd Drive pedals that he did in the past and then there's another game-changer version he has a lot of drives he's like in my opinion one of the Masters of great overdrive pedals but this is my favorite thing he's done in this small enclosure with these settings I'm gonna go from low to high gain on my strat I'm gonna put some analog delay on it it's really fantastic and I'm gonna say something else here my favorite ever overdrive is My Morning Glory because I made it for me that's why I like it and if it didn't exist this would be in its place so I regard it that highly here it is the last pedal and maybe the most fun I don't know I don't know I don't know but you need to tell me in the comments what you think [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] honorable mentions are my JH s Charlie Brown it's the most underrated overdrive I've ever made really great pedal when people get it they love it you know take it early bit next up is the walrus 385 this is fun it's based around this idea of taking the amplifier from an Old Forge Ector it's got some unique sounds in it I'm really fond of that pedal Keeley's 1962 it's another Bluesbreakers style pedal like My Morning Glory we also have the Mojo hand magpie this is a really nice light game drive and really fantastic it's made by Cusack who had the screamer he now owns this company just saying good stuff and the full drive this new small version come on the full time is amazing and I see it kind of not being used anymore it had a Teide gotta get it everybody's owned one or three of these but give it another shot the small compact format is really nice you can do nine to 18 volts great pedal record time today's record time is brought to you by Arcade Fire's the suburbs this is my favorite Arcade Fire record I want to say a lot about it I'm just gonna say it's fantastic they're a killer band if you don't know about them check this out first and then go crazy a lot of great albums the new album is really really good and they have a nice way of evolving without becoming a different band and that's one of the things I like most about them I like every song on this instrumentation production so check it out and in the comments let me know what you think of this if you've never heard of the band and if you are an Arcade Fire fan tell me what your favorite track is and favorite album thanks so much for watching this I hope you enjoyed it in the comments below tell me what your favorite underrated overdrive was from today and list some
