what's up internet current 1776 here back with another video it's hot so if you see me sweating profusely during this video i'm sorry it's hot so today we're finally going to start our video series on the ultimate bug out vehicle if you've been following us for some time about a little over a month ago we announced we were going to do this seemed to be a lot of people that were interested in seeing kind of our thoughts on the ultimate bug out vehicle so as daniel and i were discussing on how we were going to do this um you know the thought come up well there's kind of two aspects to a bug out vehicle some of us think about a standalone vehicle that's rigged out ready to go ready to rock at a moment's notice maybe a little bit different than your conventional vehicle out there it may be a really old-school vehicle that's all kind of souped up in many different ways and then of course you got kind of your average person your everyday driver not a lot of us can have a standalone vehicle for a bug out situation we only have one vehicle or two vehicles in the family and they're daily drivers and we need to be able to use them in a daily driving aspect so what we're going to do in this series is we're going to show kind of a ultimate bug out vehicle in the sense of a standalone vehicle something that's maybe a little bit outrageous in some ways as far as what you would normally see in a vehicle but very capable for a bug out situation and built for that purpose and that purpose only and then we have the daily driver vehicle which is going to be my vehicle reba here i got a truck her name is reba it's a red truck and it's awesome and reba's awesome and she's got red hair don't judge me reba is my daily driver and um i have started putting together the foundation of making reba a capable bug-out vehicle but still a very capable daily driver so if i'm sure you saw in the title i have foundation the foundation so when you're building out a bug out vehicle especially when you're dealing with a daily driver you got to think about a foundation you know everything's built off a foundation your homes are built off of foundations businesses are built off of foundations our lives as a whole are built on the foundation that we were taught or we were exposed to as we were growing up so without any further ado i'm going to show you what i have as my foundation as the first video of this build and uh explain the products and why i think this is a great foundation to start off with and kind of showcase these three companies and you know if you're interested in checking them out i urge you to do so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] bam so here we go there's reba with her foundation on the back there so i have a pickup truck many people have pickup trucks as their daily driver nowadays and i mean let's face it with any vehicle storage and accessibility is a premium right so if you can maximize your storage for your gear and your purposes then that is a great way to start off your foundation with modern pickup trucks nowadays a lot of them typically have shorter beds my truck here has a five foot six inch bed it's not you know the typical eight foot uh bed that i'm used to as i was growing up that pickup trucks had because now a lot of pickup trucks have four doors they have a full-size back seat in the back so something has to be taken away which is typically the bed there are trucks out there and there are models just like this one that have the ability to have a longer bed you can buy them with a longer bed typically people go with this style no matter if it's a chevrolet a ford a nissan a toyota or whatever the bed space shrinks on these things storage is a premium remember so the first product that i'm going to talk about in this foundation of my bug out vehicle and daily driver is the leichner designs acs forged rack system so the acs forged rack system from lightner designs in my opinion and in many others is the most modular rack system pickup truck rack system on the market today and just so you know the acs stands for active cargo system active remember that word active so this rack system is extremely strong but it's very lightweight i think it's somewhere in the 80 pound range um it's made from 6061 t6 aluminum billet okay so it's forged out of billet there's no welding there's no nothing on it they're all single pieces out of billet why is that important well it's extremely strong and it can carry extreme loads so off-road it can carry 400 pounds on top of the rack now when i say off-road i mean off-road i'm talking about baja wide open 100 miles an hour hitting whoops hitting jumps that kind of off-road and that's how they test this thing so i'm not talking about slowly going through the woods or going through mud holes or going through you know normal off-road conditions i'm talking about extreme high-speed off-road conditions like in baja races and things like that on the road it has a capacity of 800 pounds so normal driving you can have up to 800 pounds on top of the rack and you have absolutely zero issues as well and when it comes to static loads sitting still like it is right now 1400 pound capacity on the rack 1400 pounds kayaks you can put john boats you can put rooftop tents you can put you put whatever you want up there if you want to use it in a commercial application like a ladder rack you can put pipes up there you can put anything you want up there you're gonna be good to go and there's plenty of other things that set this rack apart from their competition and one being is modularity they have a ton of accessories that i'll show you here in a minute a few of them and it's got the t-slot or the quad rails on the top and rails along the sides so if it has a bolt you can mount it to this rack lights roto packs boxes shovels axes first aid gear if it's got a bolt you can bolt it to this rack anywhere you want i'm talking about anywhere you want you see the sweat starting to come down my face now it's hot out and i got a black shirt on which is probably not the smartest thing to do black is slimming in addition to being fully modular basically being able to bolt whatever you want onto it one thing that sets them apart for sure is the rear load bar the rear load bar if you don't have anything on top like a rooftop tent or anything and you need to haul something tall let's say you need a hall furniture you need a haul refrigerator and you need that bar out of the way lightner designs this thought of that you can loosen up these four knobs and you can slide that bar all the way to the front so that you gain full height access to the back of your truck no other rack system out there is doing that i'm going to be quite honest with you when i was a mechanic and i had a service truck i had ladder racks i wish i had that i'm just saying up front the forge system just looks factory to the vehicle so each vehicle the system is going to be for that truck okay so when you go in and look at their website you've got to select your year make and model of truck because they build them where it's it looks like a factory option i mean it looks like it was i mean and it was it was made to go on your specific vehicle so it looks really nice and clean on a vehicle so uh accessories they've got tons of accessories they've got awning brackets they've got rooftop tent brackets they've got universal brackets they've got lighting brackets they've got like wire mold so when you're running lights and wire you can run your wire inside this t-track system and you can put the molding on it to hide it tons of accessories but what i have is i've got two gear pods on the driver's side here i'll show you briefly what i got on the inside so they are lockable they're fully weather sealed all the way around they've got the support that comes up and locks in to hold the door open so in this first pod this is like my go pod uh i've got my go bag in here i've got a few miscellaneous things sitting in here loose that i may want to use without having to grab my bag but if if something goes down and i have to leave my vehicle i've got the stuff in this pod to grab to go with so i can pull my bag out the few loose items i have in here i can throw in the bag and i'm gone got shelter i've got uh you know water i've got food rations in there i've got communications i got my handheld radio here i've got dry bag i got an extra change of clothes um extra socks all that stuff's in here ready to go in the first pod i mean there's guys putting hose reels in here with air can with arb air compressors so they can you know fill up their tires after they air down going off-road so i mean it's purpose built these things are so that you can customize this however you want they're putting a false backing on the inside here and putting their controllers and all for their solar and uh battery options that they have in here so it's like a control panel in here i mean you can do whatever you want with these gear pods but they're fully sealed there's plenty of room on the inside and this is my go pod right here in this pod here this is kind of my sleeping stuff so i've got my wool blanket right here i've got um a bug net if i need it if i've got somebody with me and you know i got my hammock in here i've got another i got two sleeping bags i've got some cushions some inflatable cushions pillows i think i got another uh thin blanket down in here so this is all in case i'm gonna be utilizing my rooftop tent and i want to have a sleeping bag or a pillow or anything i keep all that stuff in here and they're fully lockable so you're good to go moving on here towards the back i've got some roto packs here i've got a two gallon fuel pack right here and i've got a two gallon water pack right here so i've got water and i've got fuel i also got another roto packs fuel canister on the back right here and they're mounted on lightner designs of universal plate so there's a plate that's mounted here and then i've got the rotopax mount mounted to that and that's what's cool about the the forged rack here is is this t-slot channel the bolts that that you can get from them you don't have to stick it in and run it down the length so if i wanted to just take this part off right here i don't have to take this one off to loosen this one to slide it to an area to take off those locks that go in here the nuts that are on the back of the screws they just fit into the slot and when you turn it to tighten it down it locks in so you're able to take these on and off at a moment's notice if i really wanted to take this off i just take an allen key loosen it pop it off so it's always a good idea to keep fuel and water with you rotopax does make lockable mounts right here i just don't happen to have them so i just took a cable ran a cable through and locked so somebody can't steal my fuel or water so continuing on here kind of moving around i just want to talk about this load bar back here in the back so this load bar if you don't have a rooftop tent on here and you wanted to haul something tall in the back of your truck furniture appliances and you didn't need this load bar here all you have to do is loosen up these two knobs on each side there's four of them and this load bar will slide all the way to the front or you can take it out all together whichever you wanted to do but it'll slide to the front lock down now you have full height access of your bed which is really nice i mean that's a really well thought out if it has bolts you can mount it to the lightner designs rack on the bottom side or bottom back and front bottom back in front on the front load bar all down the top sides right here all down these top sides right here there's channel down the bottom there's channel i mean there's channels everywhere so you can put lights back here you can put a light back here shining down you can put lights on the bottom shining into your bed you can mount water carriers there's uh there's a product out there called a water port i think that's what it's called where you can have pressurized water so you can wash off things or use for cooking or whatever mounts to this antennas bike racks canoe racks continuing on with mounting uh i got max tracks right here so max tracks are recovery boards that work really good for getting you out of a sticky situation if you need to you can use it as a shovel on one end and then you can put this down so your tires can grab and pull out designed in australia they do a lot of over landing so these things have been tested out very well we've tested some like these here at battlebox and these guys right here work really really good so lighter designs thinking ahead they make a mount that goes on the back of the extra large gear pod where you can mount your maxtrax uh traction boards to the back of it so i've got recovery option right here ready to go i got four boards and it's just as easy as flipping these over and then at the front as well and i can take one board off at a time or take them all off if i want to gotta have recovery bug out vehicle fuel water recovery you need to have those things in your bug out vehicle passenger side i have the extra large gear pod now this gear pod goes almost the full length of the bed i've got a little space here and i've got a little space here but this is the extra large gear pod i keep this gear pod empty on purpose and i'll tell you why one reason is i don't want i don't want to be completely packed out all the time to where as a daily driver i may need to go to the store and buy something i may need i may need to put something in one of these boxes and i don't want it to be packed out to where i can't do that in a daily daily driving sense so i leave this one open if i go to the store if we go grocery shopping if i buy something that i don't want to put in the back of the truck i can put rifles back here if i want to matter of fact there's guys who put a plate in here so that they can it's a rack so they can put their rifles in here i may do that now that i think about it anyway say you're at home you got a bug out we have a system of stuff in place for each of us that's our go to the truck it's time to go gear so that stuff can go in here so an extra tent um their go bags their communications all their stuff they can grab we open this pod throw it in here close it up the whole family can get inside of the pickup truck and we're gone so that's why i keep this empty majority of the time unless i'm using it for something during a daily driving experience so that's the gear pod xl so next up on the foundation of this everyday driver bug out build i'm going to lower the tailgate here and show you what i got inside got a deck system it's freaking sweet it fits perfect in here with a forged acs system from lightner designs they work together a lot and make sure that their products can kind of live in the same ecosystem if you will so there's there's no hindrance of these support bars or anything with the deck system i can take the deck system in and out while leaving the rack on vice versa not only has this right here giving me more capacity for storage more areas to put my gear be more organized be more accessible et cetera i use a truck as a truck i hauled up almost daily i live on a homestead i've been building fences i have to buy feed i have to buy materials and i've been running this for a little over a month now and i haven't missed a beat it's handled everything i've thrown at it i had several hundreds of pounds of t-posts and fencing materials in the back of this truck a few weeks ago and i mean it handled it no problem two thousand pound load capacity on top of this box right here the payload of two thousand pounds so you can haul four wheelers you can haul rock you can haul mulch you can haul furniture refrigerators appliances whatever you want on top of this box and you don't have to worry about it it's got 70 pounds of united state steel on the inside and it's got this high density polyethylene um kind of skin on it it's the the steel is kind of running in a ladder grid this way and a few going this way very very strong going to handle anything that you throw at it the only thing you're sacrificing is a little bit of height in your bed here but to be 100 honest with you it has not been an issue for me but if you need to take it out you can take it out pretty quick no problems put it back in when you you want to storage is a premium guys when you're building your bug out vehicle i don't care if it's a car or if if it's a pickup truck get your foundation done right okay right up front that's what you need so you don't have to go backwards and fix it later the drawers here have a 200 pound capacity so right now what i've got going on in my drawers they're on dual sealed ball bearing wheels there's four of them two on the front and two in the back and it slides out i got a lot of weight in there folks this this side right here i keep a lot of my tools in i like having tools i've got quick access to miscellaneous things here there's a little basket here that i can take completely out if i wanted to i like to leave it in there though so i got different things in here that that are quick grab things that i may need marking tape um a strobe light in case i broke down on the side of the road emergency i got cordage in here i got a few tools gloves rags here i got some simple straps i got you know a tire tool um i've got saw i got wrenches i got a little air compressor in case i need to you know pump up the tire my tractor that i feel like i have to do on a daily basis or on my vehicle i got jumper cables etc again i'll do a video later on kind of what all i have in here but just wanting to show you kind of briefly what i got they also have these these boxes right here from deck that are really cool that stow away inside of their drawer systems awesome boxes and keep stuff in there i've got more tools and little small miscellaneous things that i don't want running around in here they also have dividers you can see these slots here these they have dividers that you can put in here so that stuff won't slide around i got so much stuff in here now that the boxes are acting as my dividers and then they've got the larger boxes like this one here here you can see the size difference this one's deeper a little bit wider my wrenches i got you know screwdrivers and stuff in here a meter a multi screwdriver a uh socket set push to the back drop that in and it's just as easy as pushing it forward and it locks in itself and it's lockable yeho this is more of my survival drawer if you will i'll go over what i have in here in another video with this series but i again have a large box here smaller box storage basket up front water purification food survival type items cordage things like that i'm keeping in here for right now oh yeah let's not forget they got a bottle opener yeah and then on all four corners of the bed they have these four areas here that they call the ammo boxes you just pop the top off like that right there and you can keep items in here that's not a big deal of getting wet so each corner is tied down with a j hook to your factory tie downs in your pickup truck this cat ain't going anywhere it works without a bed liner a spray in bed liner or with a spray in bed liner if you have a drop in bed liner the just a plastic drop in one that needs to come out because a lot of those on the corners they actually curve up so that you don't have water pulling in the corners and they curve up and they take up space of your bed so when you take that out you'll realize well heck i gained four inches in each corner this takes up the full bed i mean it fits perfect to your brand of pickup truck i mean it it's it looks factory it fits perfect in all the creases and crevices so those drop-in bed liners need to come out but i keep my straps chains um need some d-rings and stuff like that kind of recovery equipment in these two ammo boxes here and when you add a tailgate or you're hanging out with your buddies you can flip them over put them back on and they got cup holders on so when it comes to a foundation obviously so far what you've seen is has really been stressing storage for your gear if you don't have good storage and good organization for your gear it's going to be a headache especially in an everyday driver situation having gear with you and still using the vehicle for everyday activities that you may be doing so along with the uh the gear pods from lightner designs and the deck system that's pretty much covered i mean i really don't have anything at all in the back seat of my truck anymore everything's right here easily accessible i can lock it up weather resistant the whole nine yee-haw all right so now we're going to go into what's on top of the rack so for me in my foundation process i want a place for shelter okay if i have to bug out on this vehicle i don't want to have to worry about getting somewhere and setting up a camp and setting up tents and doing all that in case i have to hurry up and get out again really quickly i want something that's quick something that's effective and something that doesn't hinder my vehicle during everyday activities like getting into parking garages or my gas mileage or getting into my garage this dude on top right here is the coolest rooftop tent i think there is on the market i'm fixing to show it to you somehow because it's way up there and we're down here i'll figure it out so this right here is the roof nest falcon 50. freaking awesome rooftop tent it is just under seven inches thick i can get into my eight foot tall garage door at home and i have plenty of room to spare goes right in no problem which is a plus can't do that with other roof top tents those big brick bulky ones with the pvc cover on top and i can even go into some parking decks with this so i'm sure many of you have seen rooftop tents and typically they're kind of these big bulky square things that sit on top of people's vehicles that have like a pvc cover that goes over them with velcro and zippers i don't want to deal with that my way of thinking in a bug out vehicle situation is i want to be quick and i want to be effective this thing can be deployed in well under a minute and and you're ready to go you don't have to take a cover off you don't have to put the cover somewhere you don't have to worry about your cover getting hit by branches or anything like that and potentially ripping it and then you've compromised your cover and it's getting wet during rain or whatever so this is a full honey honey it's got a honeycomb aluminum structure it's fully sealed all the way around with gaskets all the way around it's just under seven inches tall i can get in anywhere i want to get i can get into my garage and i don't have to worry about taking this thing off really cool thing about this it's also got t-slots all the way around so just like the lightner designs active cargo system i can mount lights i can mount shovels i can mount fire extinguishers i can mount whatever i want to the sides in the front and the back of this rooftop tent right here and i'm good to go it's got all stainless steel hardware it's got stainless steel gas strut in the back stainless steel latches it's just freaking sexy i mean you need your bug out vehicle to be sexy especially if it's an everyday driver right i mean come on people reba's looking good and again storage is a premium right so the roof nest falcon is actually the top of it is designed for storage they have a crossbar system that you can buy separately that you can put across the top of the tent right here and it mounts to the t-slots on the side so you can put skis wakeboards ladders canoes bicycles whatever you want on top of the rooftop tent you can't do that with the others and it's a full clean flat surface on top so if you want to mount solar panels or anything like that up there you can do that as well so like i said i want to be quick and i want to be efficient i'm going to open the tent up see how long it takes and then a little time putting it all back together and see how long that takes just so that you get an idea of it okay [Music] uh i'm pretty much ready that's all it takes so i've got uh an awning that comes out the front right here um there's just two awning poles of course we'll stay a little while i would put those on or if it's raining or anything i'm gonna put those on but it's ready to sleep in right now if you need to pull off or you get to an area that you don't know if you're gonna have to get out of that area really quickly boom you're ready to get in and sleep and it and it goes back down just as quick but let me show you the inside first i'm going to have to use my cell phone to do that because we'll i can't get this big camera up there a little time out real quick i'm going to put the awning up just so you can see how that happens so on the inside here i've got only two awning poles you've got this awning that comes out right here so you can roll up your material here for your window it's got bug mesh behind it so you can just do that or you can zip this up and you can stow your uh your awning here up top if you want to go now b wouldn't it be it was a dragonfly so i'm just going to put the awning up very simple sticky pole in that stainless steel connection right there boom boom also if you got solar panels on the front because that thing angles like that you know you could point it south whenever you try you know you get to an area you're going to be a little bit you can sit it you know facing south open that thing up and it's a perfect angle right to the sun so that's pretty cool as well and this is the 50 they make a roof nest falcon xl so it's it's 10 inches wider this is 50 inches wide and 96 inches deep i think i'm 6'2 fit in it just fine this is a two person tent the xl is 60 inches wide same length and it's like a two and a half you know two people in a child um size or whatever so this is the 50 and they do have the xl version all right cell phone time all right so up the ladder we go so it comes with the ladder as you can see here you've got these uh these supports for your ladder mine came with four of these so i can put two of them on the back two of them here on whichever side i want it to be on and um so you you can access it from the back of the tent if you want and you can access it from each side of the tent if you want again it's got bug netting i can find where i put my zippers i've got a little fleece blanket in here so it comes with a boot bag right here fits right into this t-channel and then your shoes and all are you know good at being in the rain and everything because it keeps rain out of it fits right on there just like that you got this bag here you can put your shoes in so on the inside as you can see it's rather spacious you got another window mesh there and a big window and mesh there so a really good panoramic view uh very thick nice durable weather proof material right here rip stop the cool thing is if you do have a problem at any point with your material each side each of the three sides are separate so let's say you have something happens to this you contact roof next say hey man such and such happened yada yada they can send you just one side so you don't have to replace all of it you don't have to so on the inside we've got a cargo net here which is really good for throwing your pillows throwing a jacket hanging your light from it or anything like that on each side they've got a storage pocket here and here one thing that's really cool about this material as well outside of it being durable is its insulation properties and the fact that when you close this thing up and it's light outside it is rather dark in here it really cuts down on the amount of light that comes into the tent which is great because i like it dark when i'm sleeping when i slept in this a couple weeks ago it was pitch black in here even when the sun was coming up so that was nice it's vented up at the top obviously you've got areas where when you roll up the bug net and the outside portions of the windows you can tie them off and then it's got this paneling on here that helps with insulation too in case the roof gets really hot it insulates so it's really hot out i got my hand up against and i really really don't feel a whole lot of temperature coming through the roof it's got a main washable mattress and it is a three inch thick mattress very comfortable mattress right here and it comes with the anti-condensation mat on the bottom usually you have to buy one because most rooftop tent companies don't come with that roof nest comes with a really nice anti-condensation mat as you can see here all right so that was a quick look at the inside of the tent so now i'm going to close it all up and we'll see how long it takes that i'm not going to time lapse it or anything like that i want you to see it in real time so first thing we want to do is take our ladder off so get my poles off for the awning put them inside [Music] now you just take your awning fold it in like this and there's a bungee right here that you put up that helps keep all that contained all right now you just grab this so you bring it down you're going to get some air pressure in there if you leave the doors uh open you won't have this issue it's not that big a deal i kind of do it like this so it kind of pushes and pulls the air out get there out lift it up a little bit tuck your material in on each side run this strap back in done so just that quick i'm ready to hit the road again do that with your other rooftop tents out on the market got to fold it all up you got to put the cover on you got to zip it up i'm already on the road i'm bugging out bugging out so that's the end of the video folks i appreciate you guys watching as always and i hope you guys enjoy this video series that we'll be putting out on bug out vehicles so this is the foundation v videos or the first video for the daily driver bug out vehicle adventure vehicle survival vehicle whatever you want to call it uh vidya we'll also have another video coming out soon of the 6x6 and daniel um kind of a purpose-built bug out that's its main purpose as a bug-out vehicle not being a daily driver vehicle and there's a lot of really cool stuff going into that so i hope you guys enjoy that that's a that's a pretty freaking awesome vehicle that 6x6 jeep so be on the lookout for that as well so now i'm ready to move on to my next stage of the build which you know will be lighting probably going to do lighting and a 270 degree awning um and a secondary battery system uh to control the lighting and things like that so that's probably going to be what's going to be on the next build of this truck right here but as of right now i've been running this for a little over a month i've had zero issues uh my gear is accessible i know where everything is and i can still use it as a daily driver and still use the bed of the truck as a pickup truck for normal pickup truck stuff so be sure to check out those companies i'll put a a link down below to the companies you can check out their facebook pages their
