hey guys it's Amanda welcome back to my Channel today I want to discuss the rise of the hot rodent boyfriend step aside golden retrievers a new mammal is in town hot rodent boyfriend or a sexy rat man first girls want the bear now they want the rodent like what animal am I supposed to be I swear to God if I woke up one day and someone wrote an article about me are you sexually attracted to a rodent man I think I would just ended they're one and the same if somebody comes up to you and says hello sexy ratman they're also calling you a hot rodent boyfriend if your feed has not been flooded with hot rodent boyfriend propaganda I'll break it down for you the hot rodent man is a guy who has an uncanny resemblance to a rat or a mouse physical characteristics are not limited to but include small eyes big ears and pinched angular features it ostensively originated from this tweet that declared men are either Eagle handsome bear handsome dog handsome or reptilian handsome and frankly we haven't seen a classification system so astute since Carl anaus invented modern taxonomy but this tweet was missing one key category of men that have since scurried Up From The Trenches in droves the rodent man so who is the rodent man I'll give you a sort of brief overview of who I would call the founding father fathers of this movement first and foremost we have the challengers co-stars Mike Feist and Josh OK Conor Mike Feist undeniably looks like steuart little the nose the mouth the distance between his eyes it's all there as offputting as rodent may sound this is a compliment Frederick and Eleanor little went to an orphanage with the intention to adopt a human child so their kid could have a brother and instead they opted for an anthropomorphic Mouse do you know how perfect of a mouse you have to be to get chosen over a human being I think being compared to seart little is ultimately a compliment he's a style icon I think it says that you have charm intelligence and an uncanny ability to win people over this variant of rodent man is what I would call cute and I feel like Timothy shalam also falls into this category but on the other side of the rodent man Spectrum we have the likes of Josh o' Conor who has been aptly compared to yes the rat from the 2006 DreamWorks classic Flushed Away I have to say this one is not a perfect match but the material is certainly there I would say what mainly sells it is the dark hair and protruding ears which is certainly a key feature in the rodent man aesthetic also in this category of rodent we have Maddie Healey the lead singer of The 1975 hey has an undeniable rat-like energy I think this is a combination of his appearance and his Vibe he has small hooded eyes and his pale skin seems to have a fraught relationship with the sun I say this with all the love in my heart but there is something perpetually dirty about that man he's an Unapologetic dirt bag it's a part of his bad boy appeal but the funniest thing about it is that Maddie Healey was the blueprint for the rra from flush away there a meme that I'm a specific rat which is the the is it the kid from flushed away yeah basically his mom actress Denise Welsh was the goddaughter of film producer Ian lafern who was working on flush away and when he was looking for inspiration he found a muse in a young Maddie Healey and based the main rat off of him my mother is an actress Godfather is a producer and he produces movies and I wasn't actually close with him until I was around about probably about 14 years old or something like that he M was looking for inspiration for a movie he was producing called flushed away so um it is genuinely based on me this has to be one of the greatest nepo baby contributions to date while being compared to Vermin is harsh in this context it's not the worst thing in the world rodent men are undeniably sex symbols most of them are actors who have starred in roles that paint them as attractive objects of Desire not nasty little pests they're the latest variant in a long line of men who we call ugly hot which is to say men who are neither tan nor blonde nor resemble Brad Pit last year we praised dadbods and medium uglies this year it's all about the rodents so in today's video I want to unpack the rise of rodent men and the complications of the unconventionally attractive as surface level as this topic may seem there's layers to it so before we get into it I want to talk about the most important layer in my life underwear which is perfect because parade is the sponsor of today's video parade is currently having their summer sale so here are some of my favorite pieces first the cotton boxer reefs New York in the summer is humid and sticky and these are comfortable and breathable I especially love them for summer because I mainly wear dresses and skirts and sometimes I'm stepping over a grate and a train passes through and I'm not trying to have a Maryland Monroe moment I also bike around a lot in the summer and wearing a dress doesn't stop me but I don't want to be flashing the whole city so the boxer briefs keep me cute and covered it's so much better than wearing Spandex and underwear because these consolidate it into one little thing of course I'm not going to leave you guys without a deal so use my code am50 for 50% off your next parade purchase yes 50% off so please for the love of God refresh that underwear drawer and in the words of sexy red let that breathe okay so back to rodent Men We already discussed the OG rodent men but as this trend has started to become more popular it has slowly but surely expanded to include other unconventionally attractive celebrities Timothy Shel has been accused of being a rodent Man by several news outlets and honestly this one is debatable I understand the instinct to group Timothy with men who sort of look like this but Timothy's unconventional attractiveness lies in looking like a famished Victorian boy not an anthropomorphic Mouse I think someone who has also had their unconventional hotness conflated with a rodent likee quality is Adam Driver Adam Driver is more caveman attractive than anything else sure he has a larger nose as the rodent man criteria suggests but he also has a large everything he has a big head a big mouth and at 6'2 he's a large man it's hard to see what is so rodent about that and the plot has continued to be lost the New York Times suggested that both Simi Leu and Ramy Malik have rodent qualities Ramy Malik falls definitively into the realm of insect those are like literal bug eyes Glenn Powell has also been questionably accused of looking like a rodent people have said he looks like a capy Bara and all the resemblance is uncanny I think his blue eyes blonde hair and eight pack abs prevent him from falling into the rodent Man category honestly until a few days ago I just assumed he was Australian because he had like blonde hair and seemed to possess a golden retriever energy the wide variety of men being grouped into this category of rodent tells me that being a rodent man is less about adhering to a strict aesthetic criteria and more about Vibes take Jeremy Allen White he has piercing blue eyes and blondish hair and as we saw from his Kelvin Klein campaign so many abs but despite these physical features that uh point to typical hot hunk golden retriever Vibes he unlike Glenn Powell has a distinctly rodent energy I feel like the intangible Essence that sort of groups rodent men together besides like the certain physical features is a sense of grit a sense of feeling like they've sort of seen things that they've been through something which is why I'm hesitant to group Timothy shalamay into this group of people because he's famously sort of like a soft boy a twinkish type Vibe if you will I feel like at this point in his career like he's not as novel people have gotten used to his face I think he's considered pretty conventionally attractive but physical features and Vibes aside I think one of the key factors that makes rodent men appealing is that they're invariably associated with conventionally attractive women for example in Challengers Mike feice and Josh o Conor their love interest is Zena one of the most beautiful women out there Maddie Healey you know he's dated Taylor Swift bar Hogan is the boyfriend of conventionally attractive blonde sweetheart Sabrina Carpenter this is just such a pattern in Hollywood and the entertainment industry even though there are of course some beauty standards for men they are not nearly as rigid as they are for women especially look when you see how couples are casted like the dad versus the mom in a lot of movies and TV shows the dad is always like some sort of like mid ass dude but the mom is like the most milfy mil you've ever seen like Modern Family Good Luck Charlie Wizards of Waverly play Jud appow movies the list goes on and on one notable exception to this is Adam Driver specifically in his breakout role on girls Adam Driver is largely considered like you know ugly hot unconventionally attractive and I feel like a lot of that really stemmed from his role on girls his character was also named Adam and honestly like he was pretty young back then if you look at him then he he looks different I feel like he hasn't fully grown into his face like his features look even more um enhanced and bigger than they are now he was sort of like a weird looking dude and nobody like was saying he was like this golden retriever hottie however his love interest Hannah on the show people had a lot worse things to say about her and I would say like physical attractiveness wise I think they were both on the same plane they weren't the mold of like what Hollywood you know sort of deems perfect and beautiful but Lena Dunham's character got a lot more flak for her appearance as opposed to Adam driver's character I think he was sort of given the benefit of the doubt and labeled as endearing while Hannah horbath Lena Dunham's character uh was also not the conventional mold of beauty but people really ridiculed her for this and of course her character was self-absorbed entitled unlikable all these things but I felt like there was really not that I was there I actually wasn't there when girls aired I was 12 but in retrospect at least from like what I've seen people have said about it and the past writings about it I feel like the fact that she wasn't conventionally beautiful also made it a lot easier to dislike her there was like not as much of a halo effect she got so I want to discuss being unconventionally attractive as a woman now first of all calling a woman unconventionally attractive is a lot more loaded I think than calling a man unconventionally attractive I've seen some people saying like what's the girl equivalent of the rodent man but I have seen people like throw out certain names of like who rodent women could be names like Charlie xx and Julia Fox and I actually think both of those women are quite conventionally attractive and fall into you know a category of people who I would say are pretty but I think it's just like their branding and their styling that lends themselves to these rat connotations because they're Club rats they're party girls but ultimately they are kind of within that conventionally attractive mold they're thin they have light skin SLR white but I do think it's like more so their aesthetic and their styling that leads people to say that they're a rat girl they present themselves in a way where it's clear that they're not optimizing for beauty they're optimizing for their personal Style and what they think is interesting like Julia Fox you know bleaches her eyebrows and like wears her hair like super you know sliick back and almost looks sometimes alien-ish and I think that's just the vibe she's going for but I still think for a woman to be deemed unconventionally ATT RVE they are so still within the realm of what we consider conventionally attractive there's just like maybe like one little key element that makes them unique whether it's bleaching their eyebrows or having like huge fluffy hair like Charlie XCX or they have like a gap in their teeth it's a lot more taboo to label women as unconventionally attractive and even still within that like to be considered unconventionally attractive as a woman most of the time you are hitting most of the major checkpoints of like what is considered conventionally attractive I came across this French term called Jolie lad which literally means pretty ugly like someone who is pretty but someone who is also ugly which is you know just another way of saying unconventionally attractive but I kind of noticed that like there isn't any sort of definitive features or looks that like make someone appear this way it's just their beauty is not as obvious I would say I would say the one thing that's very obvious about the people who fall into this category especially the women is that they are all thin and I actually feel like this is one of the main overarching uh unspoken things about unconventional attractiveness is that we played such a huge portion of um attractive and Beauty in being thin it's a lot less about like individual features like how your eyes are shape the tilt of your nose the crest of your smile and it's a lot about just being skinny and back to like the Lena denim girls thing uh I feel like people didn't even consider her to be necessarily unconventionally attractive because the element she was missing was thinness and by the way in the grand scheme of everything she was ultimately thin but for Hollywood it she was kind of considered like a plus-size icon somehow because that's the standards of thinness in Hollywood but she wasn't even afforded the label of unconventional attractive because she wasn't skinny this is all to say that I think unconventionally attractive is ultimately just a category of conventionally Attractive people that seems weird to say because it seems like it would be a whole different separate thing over here but to me this is the box of conventionally attractive within that box we have unconventionally Attractive people they have all the trappings of like the normal conventionally Attractive people there's just like something that's just like a little bit different about them but it's so indistinguishable it's so untangle that you can't even name it like the unconventionally Attractive people they're still largely they're still skinny they have all their teeth they have all their hair like there's nothing actually different about them as the conventionally Attractive people I actually feel like that is what's going on here that's what's going on with the term unconventionally attractive with the term soad with the term rodent men these are still just conventionally Attractive people we just can't put a finger on why that they're not necessarily uh maybe marketable people who do not fall into the category of conventionally attractive I think there's just like a completely different scale of judging if you don't fall into that if you are fat for example or if you are a different race like if you're black I've even seen on Tik Tok some white girls say that like they literally can't conceptualize being compared to a black girl cuz they truly do not believe that their attractiveness is on the same scale like it's a completely different scale I think a lot of um people of color like still whatever is deemed attractive in that scale outside of conventionally attractive it's based on the conventionally attractive scale it's based on you know proximity to whiteness but it's still very hard to group people of color within that same category and even the most attractive ones what I'm trying to say is there's a lot less room for forgiveness in love if you're not already within the circle of conventionally attractive which includes unconventionally attractive and if you're not at the top of the looks pyramid of your marginalized Group which is based on the scale of the conventionally attractive so I think that's why for example we don't see men of color listed as rodent men because rodent men are unconventionally attractive but I think unconventionally attractive men of color it's still not valued on that level of the people in the conventionally attractive Circle I think also if you're already marginalized you can't really afford to compare yourself to Vermin because there's someone who's already doing that and he's actually very [ __ ] serious about it to me for example I was actually thinking about Kendrick Lamar nobody ever calls this man like a super sexy man a super attractive man in fact he's like kind of short and he has pointy ears like technically I think he would fall into the category of rodent man but he doesn't because he's not in the circle of the already conventionally attractive I think this is also a reason why uh people were calling the gorgeous Franchesca amaruda ugly because she's not necessarily at the top of the conventionally attractive pyramid for black people which goes off of like colorism featurism texturism so she's not at the top of that and she's not in this already conventionally attractive bubble so what is she people people just called her ugly which obviously I don't agree with I think this is just like why a lot of the time you just don't see people who are um fat or nonwhite considered unconventionally attractive because they had to be conventionally attractive to be unconventionally attractive so basically this is all to say the concept of being unconventionally attractive is actually just a myth there's no such thing you're at the you're ultimately still conventionally attractive if you are unconventionally attractive this is to sort of explain my theory right it matters in the sense of like we should be aware of privileges of isms of racism featurism colorism all that stuff but like at the end of the day categorizing yourself as these things look maxing yourself literally to death by getting like bbl's in the Dr and veneers from L checks in Atlanta it's not helping anyone I think it's fun to talk about these things it's fun to talk about attractiveness and Beauty but I think to hyperfixate on it is just not necessary I also want to add that unconventionally attractive men rodent men they have other attributes that make them hot that are not their physical features it's the way they carry themselves their status and their accomplishments like I think a huge example of this is Pete Davidson he is really funny he's you know a successful comedian and I feel like you know when he was in the spotlight for dating Kim Kardashian Arana Grande that girl from Bridgerton however many people he dated there was like this sort of thing of like how does he pill these women like he's not even like cute like that well first of all he's unconventionally attractive which means he is ultimately conventionally attractive men can use their status their personality their accomplishments as a way to sort of prop up their looks their desirability whereas for women that is not the case we kind of just like literally have to rely on what we have or what we can enhance these are my thoughts on rodent men and ultimately my thoughts on the concept of being unconventionally attractive I would love to hear all your thoughts below I think this is a very endlessly interesting topic yeah anyway I'll see you guys in my next video bye-bye
