it is alabama and ucla regional semifinals in the east alabama controls the tip they've got a bunch of multi-dimensional players at their disposal and that's why you can switch on the perimeter with those guys and right off the bat they look for a little bit of a match up down on the blocks what's he going to go over that's going to be going the other way it is jones the sec player of the year forcing his way inside on tiger interesting to me now it doesn't get stated all that much but he gets himself isolation oh that's that's worse than i thought in terms of that left elbow up high but they may they may want to take a quick look at that to start i know it's early but nope they're gonna let it go by i guess but my point really be with with jones right here getting a foul 17 seconds into this game changes the dynamics a little bit of how he can be aggressive because he does not want to get a second one early on see if that plays into this ucla coming off a long-sided win over hallelujah alabama looking to push we are 41 seconds into the game now the sec player of the year and defensive player of the year is forced to the bench and because of what i just mentioned just then you see where that ball ended up anyway the pass is out of control because he's out of control that's a huge mistake early on in terms of now once again you know you look at that a little closer and campbell may very well have been sliding in there without great position but that's something with one foul from the player you look at this beautiful season that he's had with his awards if i'm on that floor i want to really make sure i'm careful for the next five to eight minutes of this first [Applause] with a freshman from columbia south carolina and i like ucla going for the blocks they also like to pack it in defensively as much as they can right here grabs it plenty of time on the shot clock [Applause] a little bit comes down [Applause] there by alabama defensively tight defense from petty campbell really makes this engine go and he'll make it go with his own pace too which is very important for ucla work the clock make sure you make them play defense will push the basketball up the floor for alabama without an outlet pass checkerboard punches but a foul call so the junior will shoot a pair now it's time for power behind the numbers presented by powerade alabama this is the resume three-point meeks most in college basketball three-point attempts most in college basketball and they defend the three well top ten in that category at 29 yeah and a lot of times when you start saying what you did the first two lines wow these guys can really shoot the basketball and they put it up a lot but you forget the third line that you just mentioned these guys are terrific they're going to go out and find the shooters on the perimeter that's why ucla at the offensive end is joan takes us jones takes that seat with the two fouls early he's just got to be out of sorts with himself in terms of those two mistakes athletic swing man keon l 75 shooter alabama on the board [Applause] offense is always sexy to discuss and that's what gets so much attention but he's really proud of the strike they've made defensively puts it on the floor off the spin find the open man do you notice on with the way they set their offense up usage [Music] [Applause] [Applause] okay [Music] the way they shoot the basketball from long range but keep in mind ucla has some real [Applause] [Music] yale played in the ncaa tournament a couple of years ago with his former school and nate oates thought he was one of the best transfers during the off season because he really fit what they like to do yeah he's a shot blocker he defends so yes he does fit in pretty well look at the way they're trying to space the floor right now catch [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] for you to try to close them out on the perimeter basically nato saying once they close us off the perimeter then our flow game kicks in the flow game he's able to push it at you for the dribbling headed to the next guy let him dribble normal feed jose [Music] rebound snatched by fiona pushing the pace [Applause] [Music] not afraid to throw his body into the fray making things happen we've seen alabama a little out of sorts and out of control going towards the basket long range dribbling from way outside that's a good call right there [Music] it was just eight years ago nate oates was the head coach at romulus high school in michigan here he is with a chance to move on to the elite eight we send it over to jamie urdahl yeah two years since nato to arrive at alabama bringing with him his hard hat award from buffalo how do you win the hard hat award if you're an alabama basketball player you get your blue collar points what are blue collar points you ask steals charges blocks diving for loose balls on the ground everything has a value system that man herbert jones he is a runaway winner as the sec defensive player of the year for the hard hat award so far this season unfortunately for alabama i think you get docked points if you're committing charges when the game starts and how do you win sideline awards props nice very well done they'll miss would not go for jalen clark who just checked in [Applause] swinging javon the extremely talented sophomore transfer from villanova is in along with rhys [Applause] he makes a difference [Applause] a serious attack to the rim by the freshman long strides from josh primo from toronto it's an eight-nothing run [Music] controlled by reece ucla very very aware of the fact that they want to get back [Applause] jumper doesn't go for female loose ball foul as jalen clark got banged by jawan gary on the point you know what's interesting last night we were talking about it during the day in terms of being able to watch different games from last night and here's to your point around the corner he attacks and extends very nicely for the easy bucket but in the houston game prep grimes one of their really solid players kelvin sampson had he had two early fouls and he put him back in because he's an experienced player it's going to be interesting to see what they do with drawing the situation [Applause] that's exactly what they didn't want to see clearly against the big guy in the pick and roll switch [Applause] off down to 10. primo having a catch with quickly watch him go over he's so fast that you have to really give up the driving opportunities for you for him but he can also shoot it he's hitting it at a 44 flip this year so clearly an inside driving game and a shooters game he is very confident very savvy for a young guy knocked out of bounds ucla will retain it good reach around there by queen early defensively you take a look at him just setting it up watch the patience not in a hurry little fake little dribble and that's not a bad defender by the way on him jacquez at six sex too quitterly mcdonald's all-american at a hudson patrick in jersey city near and dear to jim spinoff's heart i know that place [Applause] and a foul called josh primo's got great size and explosive skills and nearly had a smile on his face that would have been stuck on there for a few minutes if he finished it was going to roll off the top of the back door but this is some challenge you know when you think about him going after the basket just like that foul called on riley who got primo on the side of his head by the way he'll scream with the mcl also he could go there you were i thought you were going to start spending a couple of minutes talking about hudson catholic and he comes and splashes that on now jimmy you were going to get one quick mention you've now actually pushed it to the next level because of a second mention here nick marinelli doing a great job there and i'll leave it alone and there's your third match that's it that's it three strikes jimmy we're done another free throw here for josh primo 76 shooter has represented canada internationally fiba under 19 series [Applause] sister kisha played at the university of buffalo and alabama has answered after a slow start 14-7 princeton time that's because jake hyman is in for ucla mcad's on a kick for campbell her first step gets around quinn elite is yet to get it going [Applause] drives in floats it out that nearly went down rebound could not be controlled by clark and it's out of bounds last touch ucla so what do you do when you're defending a guy who's a right-handed player you try to drop in there as quickly as you can you notice that we came in with that sweeping defense after he was beating off the dribble at least he knows the scouting report and jumped him at the very end knowing that he was a right-handed player [Applause] another change here for ucla david singleton in right now mick cronin is just looking for the right mix this is a 13-nothing run yeah he's looking a little bit for singleton to come on the floor because he shoots the ball from long range 75 percent of his shots come free so we're like trying to spread out the [Music] [Applause] so a couple of free throws for javon quinnerly our tournament summary gonzaga 29-0 they roll over three fifth all-time elite eight appearance michigan back in the elite eight and the wolverines despite the injury to isaiah livers find themselves in the regional finals in an impressive fashion too physical game against florida state a lot of fouls called michigan gets it done with juwan howard and we'll have juwan gary back on the floor replacing alex reese singleton that was very quick [Applause] ucla opened 3-5 from the field they have missed their last nine shots no points in the last four and a half minutes bruner back in rotating to replace gary ucla this team played really hard under mick corbin they're disciplined that's part of the deal when you play for chrono we saw it for years i wouldn't say you know this is similar to the defensive teams that he had in cincinnati but they give effort jose that's a great decision right you're struggling from the floor trying to get yourself on track and you're right over four at that point what do you do don't settle don't go to the basket make [Applause] [Applause] it is ellis with that length they have three bodies on the offense and glass just ends one of the things they do well mcfarlane has to readjust again alabama out rebounded maryland 40 to 19. the other night they're off to a strong start on the glass the crimson tide lead the bruins 17-9 first half action continues from indy alabama in front 17-9 time now for att 5-g they take us above the rim for one of the best plays of the day yeah and a guy who's struggling jiu-zhang coming down the middle of the floor there floating one through and put it up on the glass and then alabama goes to work look at the three guys down there against four and they still pull it off and finish it off nice little play there by ellis on the offensive class and jimmy they lose herbert jones to two early fouls yet the bench has responded 10-0 in favor of alabama yeah it took them a minute or two or three really to get themselves used to that nice screen down for a shooter choosing the timeout drains it good call by victor get him involved he's just made his last layup that we just showed there on the replay and what do you do you try to get your score and get him involved look at this [Applause] javon quinterly gets to the rim if he gets an isolation in a mismatch you better start squeezing the middle of the floor because he's going to go by just about everybody here and the fact that nate oates could mix and match he can play quinn early with shackle third use primo out front gets to the hoop and he draws the foul free throws coming up for johnny so that isolation out front you better get in front of him because now it's way too late keon ellis called for a second foul alabama up by eight scan this code right now to watch live games on your computer phone tablet or streaming device with ncaa march madness live watch now at nca.com march madness or download the app today well that was the first foul on herbert jones then the second foul on herbert jones that was 41 seconds into the game the sec player of the year on the bench for alabama yeah just unbelievable it took him a couple of minutes to regroup i think when he walked off under a minute like you said but they have really shown the diversity of their depth coming out [Applause] for some empty feelings and you know what if you have it and extend the lead then you don't get back into the game johnny joining the likes of lual cinder for image and kevin love the best scoring show in ucla history over three games at the ncaa tournament that ball bounced off the hand of gary great save jumper is short from shackleford offensive rebound from garrett primo this is on the three nice tip knocked outside to quite early can't give you this many opportunities shackleford had his pocket pick scooped up by campbell an opportunity to run and here's the guy who can shoot it chooseng [Applause] it was actually clark who kept that alive on the left side of the class just then ucla cuts the alabama lead to four spread with shackleford nice [Music] [Applause] does he ever make good decisions on the floor it's just under control and always like looking up thinking things are going to be great he's got almost a three to one assisted turnover ratio and that's not a good one out there to follow they'll reach in by campbell first team all pac-12 polished point guard very poised for a sophomore and i tell you he just recognized that nothing was going on defensively good tip by clark and a better finish nice little run here by ucla they have cut the alabama lead to two and now herbert jones makes his way onto the floor for the crimson tide playing with those two fouls yeah and this is where number one he's got to be careful what we've just seen the way he's going to play on the offensive class make sure he doesn't push anybody no drives to the basket check him out defensively who he's going killer cranks over and finishes with a left hand i've been in spots like that in my career where i'm standing there with the guy with the ball saying he can go buy me any time he wants and he knows it you almost get that feeling with quinnerly are you having some weird flashbacks right now jimmy nightmares cameron just picked one up on the defensive end now on the offensive side so putting the pressure on we talk about pressuring somebody with your defense watch this how do you guard it because he locks you up and then you worry about whether or not you're going to stand up straight kind of stands up on that second crossover as soon as you lock your knees you are done he's going to go flying by you campbell to the bench replaced by david singleton 21-17 alabama fast moving first half here in indianapolis they don't got a matchup for ucla now with bernard the bounce to petty stumble missed it on the inside defensive pressure converged around penny from ucla the neighborhood really alabama finds the ball very quickly they find the perimeter guys ucla one of six from three-point territory jules bernard taking his time would tend to shoot jose looking for hawkheads chalkboard winding down [Applause] that's ridiculous even the defender could sense the shot clock was going down and disappearing on him he knew it offensively what a beautiful stroke at the maid basket alabama pushes quickly an opening for jones upgrades as he dumps it on the interior jawan gary on the receiving end and the difference on jones's drive it wasn't a straight line drive to the basket it was kind of like a side east to west type of drive to avoid a charge smart play on his part jacquez that's smart going after him too right now [Applause] if jones is going to switch on somebody and not jacquez i would make sure you're funneling the ball to whoever he's guarding right now force him to play defense the handles bernard sticks with him for her lead lets it fly long rebound jones has got it and a foul called on the floor jones averages six and a half rebounds per game 23-22 indianapolis on the road to the final four i'm eagle gym spinarkl jamie erdahl the rest of our crew here in indianapolis our game summary alabama leads by one ucla went through a rough stretch shooting the ball but they seem to regain their form just two turnovers for the bruins navigated through jones foul trouble early jones is back in there jump shot for petty does it go rebound as well gary could not control it and ucla has a chance to jump out in front bruins have made their last four shots jones out here very good defensive player which we've documented already they'll step in there but gary gary the steal for the champion gary takes off and finishes now just as you touched on they're trying to take the lead and all of a sudden they just hand one off and it goes the other way [Applause] he brings good size six six two eighteen had a torn acl last year red shirt season right after there you go he's going away 75 of his shots are three-pointers so know this scouting report but the steps gonna go the other way and there's a travel on shackleford for alabama and so he's come in with 106 attempts from the floor 79 of them from the three-point line and here's that step in you put that inside arm out you play the passing lane nice finish that is eight turnovers now for alabama ucla got a first four win in overtime against michigan state then beat byu in the first round before crushing abilene christian misses on the spin gets it back fighting through the double gives it up for puckheads defensively no call as gary absorbed the head and jacquez bangs it off the window does a little spin there i'm not so sure that it was a charge i think there was a little bit of a lost control of your body defensively has given credit for finishing off the play 27-25 ucla clearly on a kick jones lines it up way off on a three rebound grab by clark jones it's 37 of his threes on the season so that was way off and gary's holding that right shoulder a little bit we'll keep an eye on him number four and white to see how that affects him [Applause] ucla plays a much slower pace in alabama still herbert jones and he's fouled at midcourt probably a pretty good decision there by clark too even though that's their seventh let's take a look yeah these both of these guys are just moving to try to establish position on the bench with two fouls that personal assess to jalen clark freshman from riverside california [Applause] third foul i don't want to see him get that up on alabama in the next minute or two and ruin his beginning of his second half right now bernard should be thinking about that maybe trying to drive him a little bit [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] but right there what bernard knows is this guy's guarding me with two fouls he may be the best defensive player in the sec this year but he can't risk getting a third foul this late in this half [Applause] it is penny laying it in showing you little diversity there to his game being able to put that ball in the floor go to the left get defensive guys they spaced the floor so well that there are a lot of driving angles and lanes to the basket ball sec first team john petty junior in his senior season just blocked on the inside bernard could not get it all the way to the rim with two alabama defenders waiting for him we got a timeout with 3 33 to play first half three-point lead for the bruins coming up a t at the half first half analysis all the latest ncaa tournament news that's all coming up on a t at the half ucla has the lead on alabama 30 to 27. first four to the sweet 16 vcu of course had that magical run in 2011 lasalle did it a couple of years later then tennessee syracuse and now ucla but vcu's the only group team of the group that actually won the sweet 16 matchup and went all the way to the final four get it in for jacquez set he comes out looking [Applause] against ucla let's check in with jamie and how exhausting that must be to emerge from the first four you guys mick cronin told us three games and a hundred hours they actually didn't let the players walk through between rounds 64 and 32 the players sat on chairs and the coaches had to do the walkthrough i'm sure there was attentive listening happening during that practice and jamie mick said that first half against michigan state he thought his team was soft defensively he told him such and since that point he believes the team defense and the effort has been superb yeah i would agree with that too and it's uh you know we had a chance to speak with both of them as you just they're both coaches and mick i thought also with uh you know nate oates they're very unprotective in terms of their answers they'll answer anything you ask them all these questions but oats is a map guy by trade a math teacher at one point in his career i think he played the percentages right right now without jones on the floor for these last three minutes that's a smart mathematical move he's playing the percentages good move on his part to put him on the bench he taught math for 16 years and he just had you mesmerized with his arithmetic i was going to ask him about standard deviation it doesn't go for clark it was my understanding that you wanted to audit his class after our conversation i wanted no part of it but it was very interesting to speak to i thought shackleford spins inside off comes up short rebound gary put back doesn't go but a foul more free throws here for alabama juwan gary 56 shooter heads to the line see why snow piercer is one of cable's best shows catch up now on demand or watch the tnt and don't miss the two-hour season finale tomorrow at 9 8 central on tnt jake hyman was trying to check in zhu zheng just picked up his second foul and he'll have to wait for the first free throw from gary yeah you pretty much you really want to empty the empty the bench when it comes to guys with two fouls right now because if you and we saw a perfect example of it i am conceptually right think about the first minute of this game when jones picked up two fouls what's to say that can't happen in the beginning of the second half and then you box yourself in if you let the guy out there with three he now has four it's the same thing he's getting two in the uh in the first minute i didn't go too much math on you here did i tell you i blocked that i'm sorry alabama struggling at the free throw line four of ten empty trip there for the christian time [Applause] we had a beautiful look over his right shoulder from behind his shot that thing looked good as soon as it left his fingertips it had eyes that 46 shooter from downtown petty may have gotten away with a carry that kid against kymen teddy trying to make it happen [Applause] ucla has made four of its last six three-point attempts and they lead by six bernard no opening there no rush for ucla stay with him on this pick and pop singleton on the right [Applause] a chance at a four-point play for the los angeles native jules bernard and this is one if you have to watch closely on this watch how he lands does he allow him to land on this shot nope his feet come across and he gets in the way this is a good call he doesn't get him up really top but you see that little graze along the bottom of his left leg he's allowed and jules bernard a 73 shooter heads to the line jordan bruner back in for alabama ucla has a couple of guys who could really shoot at long range this is one of the line looking for a four-point play he shoots it at 40 for the three-point strike and he has really developed under mick cronin now in his third year with the program 15 to 2-1 so easy for quarterly as he just shifts to another gear look at rick over there on the sideline i could have stopped that i knew that was coming to the right 37-29 ucla quinn early now with 10 points off the bench he averages just under 13 per game could be a two-for-one type of possession but you don't want to hurry you have to know you're going to get the last shot if it plays out [Applause] i was just thinking he could go that long that's not a that's not a long shot for bernard that is clearly in his range and a timeout with 30.4 on the clock ucla takes an 11-point lead and just the unselfish look at the spacing of the floor little step and back you go [Applause] [Applause] the foul trouble for ucla and alabama bruins with four players each with two fouls crimson tide jones and ellis two apiece we have not seen ellis for quite some time jones missed the first part of this game with those two early fouls and now being protected on the bench that'll be a talking point in the alabama locker room at halftime knowing who has the two fouls to start to attack those guys immediately in the beginning of the second half five and a half second difference shot blocked the game clock winding down in this first half with ucla up double figures notice the way they have the shooters all around the perimeter right there little penguin wrong right now and the shooters will stay clearly 5.4 on the clock ucla will have one last chance gary comes back in replacing bruner and if you watched laurel roberts last night i know you did a smith had what 2.7 seconds i believe and he got it down to florida blur for almost a game winner this is plenty of time to get this down the floor ellis comes back in for alabama and he guards bernard shot at the horn off the mark and the two teams hit the locker room with ucla on a 20-6 run to end the first half the bruins lead by 11. we'll send you to att at the half coming up after these messages you're watching the ncaa men's basketball championship let's check in with jimmy erdog yeah nate oates called losing herbert jones early in the game very disruptive from an identity standpoint for alabama also for the crimson tide all about the three-pointers they gave up too many to ucla and if you're asking nate oates they didn't take enough threes in the first half mick cronin was making jokes when i asked him about the offensive run for ucla he said obviously it's the coaching but hey we got to limit them to one shot when it comes to our defense jamie great points especially with nate oates and i'll just add to what he said to us yesterday one of the things that that he knew coming into this game the way he plays and the way they style he does not talk about not taking mid-range shots he'll live with those but he wants to get to three things free throws to the rim and also the three-point shot what you just said and his concern matches up ucla has beaten him in those three categories 16 of 33 from three-point territory in the second round win over maryland bernard shortly on the three tap to the outside campbell can't hit the three box out and the ball leaks out to shackleford alex reese getting the knob to start the second half for alabama shackleford has it intercepted by jose nice one of the things that alabama likes to do they like to drive it generally they will kick it back behind them from where they're driving so usually somebody fills nice read on the opposite side of the floor to start things off campbell can control tempo for ucla the sophomore from cedar rapids iowa bernard just keeps on firing and that was wilshire you know what i i always like to get up and down the floor a couple of times before you start letting it rip i know this is the different style of play warm yourself up especially if you're coming off the half court halftime break just then and maybe not running that hard and getting yourself wound up take it to the hole to loosen up a little bit see if they can get jones involved here offensively and teddy tries to [Applause] that's exactly what i'm talking about don't settle you'll get your three-point shots in this game both teams will nick cronin knows that he has to make sure that these guys don't drive it to the basket because that's what nate oates really wants he wants some free throws and take a look at this prior to the ncaa tournament lost four straight leading at halftime but now they have led at halftime in three straight games ucla slumping heading into the ncaa tournament john petty junior shoots it at 72 percent at the line they win three games in five days ucla to advance to the sweet 16. had lost four in a row before the big dance began 40-31 if you watch the alabama play at all during the regular season or in the tournament you know that they have a run or two in them [Applause] watch by james swing it [Applause] jones lines it up [Music] at both ends of the floor trying to dump it down low to riley instead goes to the other side bernard tend to shoot riley gets it there with a little extended on the post against reese riley kick bernard that is an area we expected alabama to control off the glass he's dead even in the first half too 16 to 16 on the rebound and now it's 1919. [Applause] that was a pretty recognition too that's that quick outlet pass generally they will dribble it out of that rebound nice little kick out now all of a sudden the shift of momentum right you have ucla struggling from the outside now is the time to go to the hole [Applause] ellis just knows how to defend doesn't he did you see that inside arm he puts out there watch the right arm see the right arm that's exactly the way you play that with the outside arm to deflect it gets to know the scoreboard there a little bit score i should say and the [Applause] [Applause] [Music] ucla takes a timeout well we knew they had a couple of runs in them but we didn't think it would be two minutes and 13 seconds deep when they put one together like that 40 to 36. bruins holding on to the lead but here come the crimson tide east regional semifinals michigan has already advanced to the elite eight they will play the winner of this ucla alabama matchup we've seen a different crimson tide team so far early stages second half yeah just like jones in the first half now has to play the next three to five minutes very carefully in terms of watching his drives if he goes and riley coughs it up ellis on the move gets it back alabama on iran has cut it to two and ucla can't get anything done on the offensive end it's it's a crazy concept ayah but you can see collective bounce in alabama running the floor on offense defensively they have a lot of bounce helping one another out it's like a brand new team in the second half it is nine nothing alabama since halftime gives it up [Applause] [Applause] could not secure it for alabama great shot of nick cronin there the intensity but look at alabama going to work ellis with the drive all right ernie you could see the passion coming out of their pores on that entry into the arena we're doing an injury update with jamie yeah that was senior alex reese he's been on the bench for a stretch here after suffering what looks like kind of a backside of his hip lower back injury he seems to be in a lot of pain he's keeping a heating pad on that the entire time he's been out but it looks like his leg gets kicked that left side in an awkward way coming out on the break there keeping an eye on him all right jamie ellis called for his third foul works inside but can't finish it it's been a long stretch without a field goal for 7 48 of the first half the last field goal for johnny playing well for them on a back end ucla has called for the foul campbell over there and it's going to be number three on the bruins point guard and here comes quinley who can change the pace of the game and that's why reece is important he's been averaging 10 points a game in the tournament he's really been filling up the cup see what i did there lisa's cups oh wow [Applause] we are seeing alabama basketball for this five-minute stretch and that is their a game that we've been watching [Applause] where is the offense going to come from for ucla suzanne with the three he's got to be [Applause] you get your guy leaning and you're over riley's too big to react and he's got himself turned around his back and there's just no way that he had six nine is going to be able to stay with petty at 6'5 on that cut ucla is oh of 10 shooting in the second half they've been outscored 11-0 by alabama we're tied at 40. campbell trigger man guarded by jones [Applause] they have time [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] little adjustment by alabama twitter they trying to split defenders he calls it up riley off the entry pass send it back over to jamie well you saw that phenomenal intensity out of john petty jr on that lay-in well he has a three-year-old daughter aubrielle and they face time before every game and they make this game face towards each other to make sure dad is in the right mindset aubrielle back in huntsville alabama where he's from also john has a son john petty the third literature that says it all about that picture for the bucket first field goal of the second half of the group and we've seen zhu zang twice now going to the basket but cautiously and looking for guys who are going to try to step in that time he completed the previous time he gets a foul smart play by him he's got to watch his hands though defensively [Applause] look up tiger campbell and follow up slam down and they're going to count the basket for campbell on a goaltend that would have been a sensational follow-up too but let's see if this thing gets to the backboard first believe so and jones was the second man through on the swipe he hit the backboard there you go that's practice the second time we looked at that i don't think he he got the ball on the way up he pushed the backboard and in the eyes of the officials as we know the rule can't do that can't affect it in any way shape or form never had to worry about that i replayed under the backboard in my day do we have video for jim to roll in right now of his under the backboard skills at duke there's quitterly car complaint defense on just about anybody primo oh sure that's what nick mckerman said he wants clark on the floor he's going to get his minutes because his ability to switch basically can play one through five defensively pretty good job on clearly just that a 6'5 195 good size and strength physical defender the freshman switch notice out front screen switch screen switch here it is again bernard snuck it out shot clockwise short on a three rebounded by criminally off the floor in a hurry missed it collided on the interior it's going to be against ucla the beauty of this one is this is going to get aggressive and physical look at cam he goes flying [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foul called against kymon trigger in for gary alabama down by four petty [Applause] way off really way off rehab knocked over the singleton floating to his right a little bit you generally missed that shot on the right side he pulled up and missed it left that's how bad that one missed the left side [Applause] a little bit of a patient set here on the floor trying to make it happen [Applause] rebound knocked away from clark you've got race to the rim oh pretty fake and a razzle dazzle quitterly hits primo all right when you have somebody back like that from the garbage perspective you just keep attacking and attacking you just never can set yourself up defensively great two on one action by alabama and look at the defense on the perimeter now you've got a two-point game with under 12 minutes to play [Applause] watch by jones leans in somehow on target and they're gonna call it a two-pointer and the ucla he was searching out the fowler just then and i i was okay with no point look at this the speed of quarterly can't finish because he just got hit in the face shakes it off and harquez will bring it across with tiger campbell on the ucla bench yeah you notice with this lineup now is going to play a little bit of a point forward 6-6 [Music] that's a smart play by nick cronin calling that without campbell out there get somebody out on the floor who's gonna bring a bigger player out and watch what he does this one he searches it out wow that's a big time shot and a big time pass and finish good run out by alabama [Music] updated foul trouble jones just picked up his third joining ellis zhu zhang and campbell three apiece for ucla they looked at that jacquez jump shot if you want to call it a jump shot because it was an excuse me and it is a three so tack on one more for ucla yeah and that type of play i am the right-handed shooter generally plants his left foot first and then that right foot has a tendency to slide up a little bit and that's what happened but he stopped it shy of the line and by the way that was the best defensive player in the sec this year right on his right side defending it as well as you possibly can ucla was oh of seven in the half from three-point territory before that change to a three for jacquez campbell meanwhile remains on the bench [Applause] obviously liking the way his team is playing right now without campbell let's give him a little bit more time on the bench all of a sudden they look up lead for ucla bruins are five of five at the free throw line alabama six out of one well clearly gives it up for shepherd shot does it go long rebound shackles got his hand on it but it's kicked out of there by singleton you know you asked mick cronin about pace and how he talks to his guys about it he said jim we never discuss case [Applause] we discuss quality sets back it pockets kick [Applause] against the bruins bernard made contact with ellis show your love for your favorite ncaa team with officially licensed fan gear for the best selection of team apparel and accessories head to ncaa.com and that was a great example of alabama just that with ellis getting the rebound a lot of teams will get the rebound turn look for a guard and flip it up as you start your fast break ellis took it went all the way down the floor and made a decision on the fly nobody stepped in front of them kind of one of the ways that nato likes to come at you from all different angles val called against bernard that's team foul number five against ucla where you get ucla pushes up the floor but again no rush to get into it unless juicing wants to launch off the rim no goal [Applause] clearly poked away by jacquez winnerly retrieves drive that deflection actually played into the benefit of alabama there because quarterly had like an extra 10 feet kind of like a runway to start his move and went after the guy with three fouls on him right now 12 points for the sophomore javon 49-44 ucla broadly turns now was called before the delivery gary claiming that riley used the elbow now watch the reload now and he's in trouble he knows it he's trying to figure it out you see the crossover step defensively it doesn't work you flip your feet back and forth instead of sliding pointerly [Applause] tide yeah we've seen two plays by jones just recently in terms of showing why he is such a good defender and he was risking his fourth foul on that play that's under 10 minutes i think you can start to risk the guys with three have to play out again like [Applause] and watch across the baseline he gets separation because zhuzang really pushes into him but jones one thing you notice with good defenders i and they separate themselves before they go for a block jones goes long for penny seven to shoot [Applause] on the season i think that's a pretty good shot for that gentleman across the way who loves the three-point shot doesn't dissuade the mid-range shot but if you have a three green light 49-47 rules lined it up [Applause] [Applause] did you see how jones stopped riley in his tracks about 30 feet from the basket that was enough to delay the fast break and allow somebody to get down the lane in a hurry on the right side left side it is a 7-0 run swing dump down that's got to be a foul down deep it is jawon gary defending cody riley so get out and run if you're batman now watch here's the runners from this side of the floor a little hesitation right there did you notice he has riley on his back and that's the way and here you go deep down long range i mean that's a just flat out shooter he looked like he was contested but the confidence and both of these guys know they have a battle on their hands from a coaching perspective alex reese back in the game so dealing with that injury our officiating crew patrisco michael irving and don [Applause] daley numbers if they hurry alice [Applause] ucla actually got back better than i thought but because of ellis's ability to drive it again rebound it get it go he created an opportunity by himself crosstalk feeds bernardi he draws petty nice defensive park on the spin [Applause] we thought back about butler yesterday in arkansas yesterday shots weren't dropping that easily from the outside ucla has to focus on going to the basket a little bit more free throws coming for javon quinterly when we return yeah push this action look at him he sees a seam it doesn't take much i would say that's a difficult shot floating away and then here pounds your way into the middle of the floor johnny has been called for his fourth foul on that drive by javon quinnerly here's the play in question yeah and i think you have to look at it because quarterly is going to his left so it appears as it's not a foul but when we looked at a couple of different angles on it he actually created some contact on it our game summary we're knotted up at 51 apiece ucla is down to 35 percent shooting but again they limited the turnovers alabama getting a lift from its bench with 24 points quinterly with 12 of them so zhu zhang on the bench at the 707 mark and i think that's the smart move right now to keep him on the bench for another two minutes hopefully from a ucla's perspective they keep it back and forth and keep it close and then about four and a half minutes left you go with them oats wearing that blazer it is an homage to wimp sanderson the alabama head coach from 1980 to 1992 two-time sec coach of the year reached the ncaa tournament at 10 of his 12 seasons 267 wins at alabama most by any head coach in school history you could tell just in chatting with nate oates how much respect he has for the alabama history both basketball football and the other sports that they just keep producing championships campbell that jump shot is pure and he should have some fresh legs because he's been out for a while a little bounce in his jump shot right there but i like the mid-range jumper don't get away from the mid-range jumper eight points for tiger campbell 53-52 ucla penny [Applause] angle from the left side on this play he's reading the ball well understands where it's coming off and from behind he gets a little bit of a shove lower back david singleton picks up the [Applause] that is foul fouls against ucla so 1-1 here for keon ellis 75 sure [Applause] [Music] [Applause] from the field eight points he puts alabama up by one we approach six minutes to play in regulation some guy from auburn do that pretty well yeah take it to himself and go get it step back does it go for campbell rebound on the floor who wants it both teams and a tie up possession arrow to alabama this is a good call from the officials because sometimes the ball is loose on the floor you can't jump on anybody nobody does now watch this when i watch the tip up tip it back to himself it keeps the ball above his shoulders let's go down with it so anybody can strip it low nice finish cody riley back in he replaces jalen clark and now gary will get a breather alex reese checks in for alabama 605 to play we're in the second half 54-53 the number two seed of the east the crimson tide they were down majority of the first half when ucla went on a run to end in half crossover whipping around the perimeter ellis swing reese the shot from three-point territory and ucla controls the loose ball that's going to be a foul on ellis i believe it is kiana picks it up and that's 17 fouls now against alabama i thought quitterly made a mistake just then passing it you can never knock a guy for being unselfish but he had that one-on-one drive against riley i think he has to go to the basket on that one shackleford back in for alabama tiger campbell [Applause] shoots it just a cup below 80 the on court leader for ucla led the pac-12 and assisted turnover horatio [Applause] you can't put it you can't [Applause] cody riley the long arm of the law maybe quite early knew a little bit more than i did in terms of the previous drive nice stay right there away from the body too with riley terrific read riley has gotten himself in a much better shape very risky pass on the inside him away from the basket and then as he cut to the basket and it is a foul on bernard three-point shooting on the season 35 tonight five of 19 alabama they have been as aggressive as any team in the country shooting threes this season they made 16 against merrell on the other night and just because that number is against them right now they're not gonna shy away from it but what i that they do is they continue to have twitterly push the ball and mick cronin knows this from a defensive standpoint he's got to make sure that when they have that pick and roll he does not want cornerly against one of his bigger guys going to the basket john cutty jr does a little bit of everything for this alabama team and he puts the crimson tide up by two six times five lead changes the largest cushion is gonna live in for ucla they show defensively trying to hit the cutter it rolls out of bounds last touched by alabama riley was the intended target in the new tbs comedy chad is a high school freshman who wants to be popular by any means necessary it'll work out for you chad don't worry check it out a new tbs comedy special presentation tonight after ncaa coverage [Applause] a hammer jam another great call from mick cronin get some traffic get some confusion in the middle of the lane and then just go over the top especially when you have a guy who can leap and deliver and a special delivery by tiger campbell getting to the rim in shackleford for alabama looks like they're compressing this game a little bit huh bring it towards the camera under five minutes to play two-point lead for alabama [Applause] bernard by the open man ucla he wants to go to his left but he went to his right that trip mick cronin's dad pep in attendance long time head coach at lasalle high [Applause] out of bounds and ucla touched it last so alabama will retain it look at the confusion a lot of traffic and an offer out of the right corner a beautiful job and set by mick cronin and ucla [Applause] they are tied at 58. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] four minutes to play [Applause] all of a sudden riley's starting to dominate underneath the glass and they're featuring him in the offense they are looking for him and watch for him to get one and kick one out to his shooter if they double team no long rebound with 3 24 on the clock ucla up by two with possession i think these guys need the top media timeout team bernard looks like he's struggling running up and down the floor jacquez is tired of bit two it's gonna be a great last three minutes campbell feeds the post cleared by reese that's the one he has to kick out a little bit too much traffic defensively there with reese's size petty cross probing penny nice extra dribble huh just putting it on the floor he didn't have it the first couple of dribbles that last dribble explosion got closer to the point of attack [Applause] 14 in the second half for john penny 60 a piece here's a great matchup defensively tonight back in fake foul that's it for number five for the sophomore he has hit the quota yeah the frustration so he's pivoting he comes up with that shot it's off and it's the right call too a body bump into a guy named jones who had some problems with fouls himself with the first minute of this game tarzana california native johnny zhuzang transferred from kentucky to ucla he was granted an immediate waiver he made an immediate impact for the bruins he's been tremendous in this ncaa tournament and now he will be on the bench for ucla fouling out with 226 to play second half one other major factor with him shoots 91 from the free throw line close games i think i want him on the floor unfortunately for ucla and that's just a pit in his stomach and the only thing that can make that go away from right now is to get a w oh greensboro alabama native jones he's a double winner in the sec for player of the year and defensive player of the year and he splits a pair this is a one-point game that's some success with riley and that's gonna be team foul number eight on alabama gary picks up his fourth so one-on-one opportunity now for ucla handle it's 78 percent a guy that nothing that they'd love to have at the line they get that nice work by him holding the ball and making sure that he praised into somebody on the pick-and-roll [Applause] mark here in indianapolis [Applause] gives it up [Applause] and the two officials may disagree on what they saw they're gonna take a look under two minutes so because six seconds collapse under the two-minute mark they can go to the monitor whose leg gets it here it looked like hawk has to me yeah right through the legs too wasn't it oh what that might have got a piece of the uniform now did it graze the shorts but did it just barely hit the shorts gene stereotour a rules analyst is watching along with us gene you've now seen the same replays as us and as the officials what do you think toughest part about the shorts and i don't disagree with it it really doesn't affect the way the ball seems to move it appears to hit that but i can't say definitely on that one angle that it does but then we get this last shot that we all just looked at too and it looks like the shorts kind of moved right there on that shot and that appears to be enough to say that that ball went off of alabama right there gene i'm right on you i don't think the i don't think the shorts have enough strength in it to cause that ball to move but your second point just then i think the shorts move so i agree with your assessment there whether these three guys do or not but i think you're right on in my opinion [Applause] it's kind of in reverse jimmy usually we look to see if the ball is moving or changes the direction in this case we're gonna focus more on the uniform right yeah watch you see the pants [Applause] let's see oh i this is what i always imagined that i would be with jean steritor and jim spinal breaking down the officials have now seen a few different angles the initial call on the floor was alabama basketball last touch ucla and clearly it was it was hit off the ucla players foot so we know that triggered it towards the out of bounds [Applause] and now the question is whether or not i think the apparel of john petty jr is going to be the difference in this call did it graze the shorts in the eyes of the officials [Applause] the ball went right through his legs it sure does guys is from the position of the officials you can tell where that ball does touch or not touch the shorts at that case it's nearly impossible for them to see that in real time either they're in great position but as we see that ball going through there and and to me appears to graze the inside of those shorts nearly impossible for those guys to see that in real time on the court i agree with you there two gene and the other part of this call i would say is that it's impossible to make that call live but i would also say that's why we have under two minute replays because that's gonna get the call correct one way or another and the ball will belong to ucla penny can't believe it last after that though they may start wearing shorter shorts guys next year that might be a fashion change you know gene this guy that i'm working with here constantly making fun of me but 1978 my shorts were up about three or four inches never would have hit the shorts on that was there any much tighter too jimmy yes that could be a kick was there any idea of that possibility on a kickball joe we got to continue with the play-by-play huge possession here with 140 to go 61-60 alabama feed it put him on the floor and make something happen down by one drop step [Applause] alabama 61. ucla 60. it turns into your old-fashioned half-court sequences now he will look to try to get this match up one-on-one right here against ryan tries dish inside riley gets jalon gary on the interior ucla with a chance to grab the lead and a timeout called with one minute to play well they were looking the alabama bench was looking for a hack on this play there might have been one this is a 211 matchup in the east region we spoke about pace of this game and ucla basically averages 73 and alabama averages 80. so far the pace has worked for ucla not necessarily the final score score yet we have a lot of basketball left for one minute here i am has fouled out for ucla would certainly be a main option in these situations especially at that free-throw line as i mentioned a moment ago you gotta really test the waters going towards the basket right now if you have to kick it out for a shot to somebody like the vargas singleton be taken down [Applause] [Applause] is so smart with the basketball and his body he goes to the right side now watch how he pulls this ball back towards the baseline at the very end watch here it comes ball goes towards the baseline just for a second that allows the elbows and arms to lead and then the ball follows that's a smart play by jacquez to get himself to the line unfortunately he's only a 64 free throw shooter johann gary has fouled out [Applause] so nate oates grabs a few extra seconds with his group the officials are trying to break it up [Applause] and ucla will do the same as they huddle up with mick cronin nick cronin recruited marquez at cincinnati jacquez did not sign there he signed at ucla and he has emerged as one of the real leaders on this team he's as tough as knives too [Applause] we're tied at 61. i think that looks like a 61 free throw shooter either [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 42 seconds left alabama ucla tied at 61. george makes his move slash out of the ring and a blocking fell on jacquez that's a good call and jones was lumping at the end of the play talk about the quick execution here that's clearly a block see him trying to go to his left hand takes a shot across the lower body here you see that's all legs banging into one another and couldn't put any pressure on that left leg initially let's see it affects if it affects his free-throw shooting because a lot of the free-throw shooting is driven by the lower body he is one of three tonight it's a pair of free throws for herbert jones and that's a good call from the officials yeah jimmy alabama as a team is 10 of 20 in a tie game they've made just 50 of their free throws and the second one rattles home crimson tied up by one we're down to 30 seconds left to spot and the elite eight is on the line timeout 62-61 crimson tide our game reset ucla and alabama in a tight one 62-61 crimson tide the bruins are out of timeouts they have possession trailing by one there's a five-second difference shot clock to game play see bringing that timeout to me is not all that bad because you have to figure you may need it in the last few seconds which is one point but the fact that alabama has three they'll probably use one so that's like having a timeout for ucla in terms of matching it up there clearly you want campbell handling the basketball here number one because he's your point guard number two because he obviously shoots free throws very well but if you want to see alabama play some defense iron you're gonna see it right now in this set michigan waiting in the elite eight for the survivor of this one and you can live with an outside shot but as long as ucla tests the water going towards the basket bernard has not shot it well four for 10 from long range he's always a factor on the floor though get it in for campbell and so is singleton is down by one campbell circles [Applause] there may have been a charge on the left side of that drive too very very close [Applause] take a look get it going towards the basket smart basketball but let's see at the end of this play you got jones coming i don't know that's very close boy is that very close but a terrific dish jones knows what he's doing defensively but riley knows what he's doing offensively jones left the area and campbell had the vision to hit cody riley underneath oh there's a little grab on that right arm possibly too with possession trailing 63-62 15 seconds left alabama has not been to the elite eight since 2004. last trip for ucla 2008. [Music] [Applause] remember we spoke to nate oates a little bit about his philosophy on his three things that he wanted to focus on free throws getting to the rim and the threes and i think you're gonna see that as we like take a quick look at nick cronin's tag free throws rim threes i think you're going to see this in this order going towards the basket and corona did not see his dad for a year based on all the protocols hemp has been in attendance for every ucla game here in the tournament and it started in the first four now this is on the shoulders of quarterly right now mccrone and his dad both know that he's going to be a factor he's going to try to blast it by somebody and they switch it up right now with drones handling 10 seconds left alabama down by one jo with 6.8 jones lost his footing on his way to the rim but he will go to the free throw line and you get a lefty strong lefty watch two number two on the right side he's the one not jacquez it's riley who steps across watch him come from here steps in sure there's a lost balance but it's helped by the old cross and the body bump carter jones is two of five tonight one more with 6.8 on the sideline given the indicator making sure you block out second attempt [Applause] singleton is fouled with 4.2 john petty the foul ucla clinging to a one-point lead and now singleton will head to the line where he shoots it at 62 percent there's a free throw that really comes off hard he gives alabama a shot at it in advance 11 of 23 at the free throw line as a team squash for singleton not many free throws this year on but can you remember he's a 46 three-point shooter now keep in mind if he goes with three points mick cronin is a believer in the foul if he's up three so we'll see when he chooses to take that fight has [Applause] ucla leading by three and now just trying to get to the finish line and the elite eight [Applause] you don't think mick could go to his dad and say what do you do here that huh [Music] keep in mind nick cronin's philosophy here when he's up three is to foul now the question becomes where this first pass is going to come i'm thinking watch for a quick hitter going up the floor i remember alabama has a bunch of guys eight of the guys on this team have made 20 or more three-point shots in the season so they can all let it rip question is how fast can they get it up to a shooter 29th anniversary of the christian lightner shop and here we find ourselves in a march nail biter i'm laying back about bernard right there that's good defense you gotta lay back here and let them catch it get it in quitter later pass it off reece strengths obviously they needed to shoot the three but a major mistake where's the foul they did not get close enough and he fills up the cup reese from long range looked good the entire way wow is this ever a goal game a clean look for alex reese and the party continues it might be just starting right here they have put point four on the clock so that is a development that means you can catch it and fire it and shoot it [Applause] you know the best part of this overtime is we're gonna get a little break to catch our breath as the players are because this has been one wild two and a half minutes i don't need a break jimmy you're just insinuating that you know what i'm i'm gonna take a break i'm ready you want to lay out go hang out in the stands i'll just take over for overtime see we're all breaking right now how about reese that was the only points he scored iron because remember a while back in this game he had what looked like maybe a hip pointer or some kind of leg injury still surprised they didn't foul ucla just yet but really on that entry pass they really didn't get a chance as you break this down and look at it watch where quinley catches this ball and now all of a sudden where do ucla players they can't get to him in time riley doesn't want any part of it defensively alex reese is a senior he started 26 games as a junior so his role this year has not been nearly what it's been in the past accepted the role obviously has had an impact for alabama as a bench guy and versatile big that can chew threes but the biggest shot of his life comes in the sweet 16 as time expires in regulation and alabama and ucla knotted up at 65 apiece but we had a chance and i think you would agree with me on this with nate oates and his philosophy and just talking to him and mick cronin's the same way a lot of these coaches really understand different strategies but the style that nate oates has i got off the phone and said you know what playing for this guy the way he breaks it down and once again we talked about it mathematics teacher and all and he looks at the numbers but he doesn't over crunch the numbers he says i like the three-point shot he gets the three-point shot it's a fun style that he plays and boy when you have a lot of guys on your team who can space the floor as i mentioned eight of them made 20 or more three-point shots this season they had a lot of options just then well done and well diagrammed and executed alex reese the man of the moment ucla playing in its sixth overtime game this season i'm ready now parker you got your break your mental break i'm ready [Applause] 65-65 overtime that was a terrific last minute field house ucla controls it and it's tiger campbell johnny [Applause] fouled out and regulation a helpless feeling for the ucla bench [Applause] drive and kick singleton [Applause] he got closed down immediately along the baseline a diagonal pass a lot of times that goes to the corner it's riley [Music] basketball is the quickest way to get to the basket with that flip shot but they have read that about three times now that he's going underhand he may have to go floater or a little pull-up jumper about a five to eight feet away that is four blocks now for cody riley jones hands to petty [Applause] defense is about anticipation understanding where the next pass is going to go he just really played the passing lane feed the post greece hey so you watch the basketball the guard's perspective you're over on the left side of the floor what do you do you step across and then you wait with the ball fake goodbye [Applause] free throws here for reese 79 shooter and the reason that they're in overtime remember ucla played michigan state in the first four went to ot outscore them 9-3 to advance to the field of 64. those free throws through at the line really haunting alabama 11 25 collectively for the crimson tide obviously we'll watch the spacing of the court right now and the way they play methodical basketball this is a huge possession for ucla the offensive end tiger [Applause] a lot of these guys could put the ball on the floor and go after it jones runs it up he can't buckle up nice tip jumper no good for penny and bernard controls it we're gonna get the three-minute mark here at ot not so sure about that first three for jones even though he's a 37 percent shooter i think you need a little better shot coming down especially at ot when you're down five six players and double figures for ucla ball david singleton providing juice off the bench for the bruins a moment ago we saw hotkeys do the same thing on the right side watch the right side of his body lead right there he leads right there with the right elbow into the defender's arm smart basketball singleton has really come up big for this team ucla four for five from the floor 13 points and three of four from downtown [Applause] david singleton los angeles native out of bishop montgomery brings great size at 6-4 210 misses at the line 7-0 ucla in overtime i would say not to settle quite early there was no choice but to shoot they did not want him driving towards the basket 16 for javon quinterly at 72-68 bruins when we talk about the alabama offense now's their time they're a very big defensive team jacquez [Applause] [Music] [Applause] maybe unsung a little bit but not all the time [Applause] don't give up on the play an adjustment by quitterly there too he did not go with the other hand scoop he made an adjustment and went to the opposite side so the net became a defender for in terms of defending off the uh shot block we are under two minutes to play in overtime crosses [Music] closed by jones that's why he's the sec defensive player of the year they see ever watch the quickness here to react he helps out on the drive and he recognizes in2 we got a left-handed shooter in riley and he goes to the left side to block generally you're looking for the right side jones is a lefty himself exactly nine to shoot campbell triggers in for singleton to make something happen quickly [Applause] [Music] a minute ten to go tiger campbell taking his time [Applause] he's got a size advantage one jumper short rebound [Applause] secures it [Applause] up by seven on the two seed in the east alabama this one changed the whole dynamics of the last minute and a half of this ball game here in overtime he knows how big a shot it is that's the separator in more than one [Applause] way the pac-12 here in the 2021 tournament has surpassed every expectation and the expectations were not very high ucla up by nine on alabama just crushing those last two trips down the floor for alabama you come away with two long three-point shots you basically kind of play yourself percentage-wise out of the game gets the layup but it's a seven-point ucla lead with 38.5 on the clock too little too late and the crimson tide yeah possibly [Applause] alex reese hit the calm three-pointer that sent this game to overtime but in the extra session it's been all ucla 79-72 yeah you know what's interesting you know you talk about that shot that rhys hit and alabama works on those with their four-point play shot where they extend the floor and they're allowed to shoot long shots and it's a step in shot it worked to perfection with re-shooting the basketball from that range but now in overtime ucla is just really playing smart basketball now what you need is a clean inbounds pass you have to go for maybe a three-second tie-up if not they've outscored the crimson tide 14-7 in ot bernard did not like his options timeout call [Applause] so we'll keep it right here with ucla in front by seven michigan has already won the wolverines are in the elite eight and juan howard squad is just awaiting the result here to see who michigan will play next ucla they were not playing well at the end of the regular season although mick cronin said i think it's a bit of a misnomer he said we were losing games but it doesn't mean we weren't playing well that's exactly right and he actually felt good about his team he was shocked that he was a part of the first four but that's how everything lined up they get it done against michigan state despite really struggling in that first half for those of you expecting to see oregon and usc that game will tip at 9 50 eastern on tnt and then it'll be seen right here on tbs when this game concludes and i answered that point too with ucla and i saw the play about two and a half weeks ago against usc of all teams that's playing well in the ncaa tournament and both of those teams i thought did not look nearly as good three weeks ago two and a half weeks ago the regular season at the end of that one versus right now in the ncaa tournament you want to get it to campbell [Applause] so it's a free pass there for ucla a lot of teams using that line four guys up and they run like it's a four out wide receivers going down the field and one just stops and button hooks back and it's a reminder in this tournament are you playing your best at the right time that's all it is yep january results don't matter february results don't really matter we're in march [Applause] [Music] campbell at the line ucla up by eight they've made their free throws 12 of 16. alabama has not 11 of 25 tack on another for the bruins will check back in replacing singleton now if you use cla you just want to stay away whatever shot alabama decides even if it's a quick win to the hall which is going to be probably most likely a three just stay away you do not want to foul and stop the clock 30.3 on the clock all of this with their leading scorer johnny [Applause] [Applause] he looks as if he's been limping for about the last 15 minutes of action just fighting his way through what appears to be a huge ucla win keon ellis has fouled out for alabama [Music] no problem at the line for bernard and reality is sinking in number two seed [Applause] clearly this time by primo and it's going to be an extended celebration for the ucla fans that are here in attendance [Applause] last elite eight appearance 2008. jalen clark the freshman shooting a pair he said it a moment ago the free throw discrepancy in this game is just part of the story not all of it comes down to the fundies and that's a violation unless the official wasn't set with the toss to petty and they'll get to do it again 21.2 on the clock [Applause] ucla had the numbers here but this one is no longer in doubt alabama the late game drama from alex reese the three-pointer to tie the game force overtime [Applause] have gotten it done dominated the overtime that's for sure [Applause] continuing to make their free throws 21 to 9 in ot in favor of ucla again usc it is underway over on tnt will be heading there momentarily drives in for the deuce at this point and another foul given with 9.4 well this is what march can do to you we know what month it is now the emotional rollercoaster every year is felt around the country it comes with a lot of highs and a bunch of lows too this is on one team that walks out the last night of the tournament on a roll everybody else walks away now you nailed that with bernard something is off there and something they'll have to worry about for the next round this is going to be just the second first four team to advance to the elite vcu the other and then vcu turned that into a final four appearance nine seconds on the clock they can't wait those guys over there time ticking away on alabama off the mark for three rebound and put back for herbert jones and that's it this unlikely one continues for ucla the bruins dance into the elite and overtime victory against the number two seed in the east alabama 88-78 for jim's bedarco jamie erdahl this is ion eagle we send you now to oregon and usc [Applause]
