we have some very special musical guests tonight before they come over and chat with us they're going to perform their current single the miracle of joy ramon please welcome the biggest band in the world you too [Music] [Music] [Applause] uh [Music] i wish [Music] i [Music] on our way [Music] [Applause] out is [Music] music so i can exaggerate [Music] just wishing to be blinded by you brand new [Music] [Applause] [Music] everything i ever lost the most beautiful [Music] so [Music] miracle [Music] some baby the most beautiful [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] there you go [Applause] um [Applause] honestly it's like boarding a orion flight get in there get in there now you're great uh you okay yeah no they have bathrooms here yeah i'm like wait do you need to go oh they're right here [Laughter] you need to go whatever he's so cool so now have you guys all met you two before yes yes yes once you keep meeting bottom at funerals very sadly and um uh clement freud's everyone right next to you and then at steve jobs at uh stanford yeah wow you were determined to bring us down to that stephen just says it's not ours though good news yes now feast your eyes on this now any kids watching oh that's eightfold is it it's a long playing record everybody it is yes this is it songs of innocence and now normally bands come on they're trying to flog an album but everyone's got it already a special solution to take that time no but isn't it that's true in the midweek charts it's it's number four yeah so but do they not know they've already got it but they haven't got the vinyl oh okay oh they're having not the scene but when but also everyone gets it on the itunes uh who talked to who did you go to itunes did itunes come to you we worked very hard on these songs and we really believed in them we were scared they wouldn't you know people wouldn't hear them or you know it's it's it's tricky these days you know to be heard and we've been around a while why would anyone want another youtube album we kind of asked ourselves that question and uh no no no who are you too who has worse luck than you too there is at the back of any heartbreaking story look if anyone you know wanted to call time on us we've been around a while and we just wanted to do something fresh something that no one else had done and you know it turns out some people don't believe in father christmas i see father christmas in their lounge on christmas morning they just want [Laughter] adam i think you didn't care either way did you um no i i cared in as much as i knew that if we put it out the normal way um you know records don't stay around the way they used to a few years ago and these songs i think are like the they're some of the best songs we've ever written and to get them out this way digitally it wasn't exactly a revolution but we thought if we went to apple we would at least get paid and apple would give them free to their customers which we thought was a good idea i mean there's a lot of people who were you know uninterested in you two who are now you know mad at you two which as far as we're concerned is an improvement this is this is a crazy thing i did not know this till this afternoon uh that your association with itunes goes back quite a long way yes so you know at the bottom in your itunes there's those little symbols like there's music there's artists there's more whatever the symbol for artists yeah that's bono thank you you don't know you've got the biggest adam's apple in the whole world i think they just needed a big head for a little small symbol i mean now i don't want to cross fight but i think most people when they you know see you two we think of it sort of as bono's band i thought i've said it not the band no but it's not it's larry's band yes yeah yes so when did you like when did he take over i'm assuming he has oh he had well about five minutes after i thought i'd taken over um so really immediately yeah we we had our first rehearsal in uh in my kitchen and so we everybody arrived you know those adam edge aegis brother um [Music] the mccormick brothers arrived yes and there were a couple of people there and then bono arrived late and it was just obvious within a few minutes that he was not going to be carrying amps messing with technology he was just going to be in charge and i was fired that's actually not true i the only job they give the singer is if you can't do anything else i couldn't play because you know it's one of those so they said you know they said be a manager and adam said no i think i could be the manager so i got to be the singer and um but it's there's four bosses in in u2 and we all share everything and have done we still have the same crew joe hurley you mixed the sound out now here tonight he mixed this from our sixth gig so it's a community of people that we've kind of our music has come out of and stretches right down to cork asher now [Laughter] because when they started when you two started look at them now you know global superstars this is uh near the beginning what they look like now i think this was during the great conditioner [Applause] a better one there's a shortage one so like some of the publicity shots the early publicity shots i mean it really does not suggest that success is in your future um check this out like how did they become successful [Applause] what were you thinking i want you to know i am not just a sex object i am a human person i have feelings i will not be treated like this i love this is so bored and daytime teleon in the background that's what daytime telly used to be later today and the glasses and the hats they weren't at the beginning they they came along as time went on this time yeah you know when you become a professional outfit you need sort of the accoutrements of you started you didn't wear sunglasses when you found them you were like i love sunglasses do you ever take them off you know the big i got earlier you know the one when i did that okay oh this is a good place to explain to people there's something terrible wrong with you yes is it fatal a lot of people might make a lot of people happy no i i'm i i have glaucoma for the last 20 years okay can i say it didn't get a gradal did it oh that's right with sunglasses no but seriously graeme and you know the thing about coma is you know a perfect 20 20 vision so i would go to do these eye tests and people said but i said i don't really need one because i've got perfect i could read the bottom line and they said oh that's one of the signs of a well you wouldn't have it have you ever had sort of strange visions and you know steam coming into the room and you know rings around lights i went oh yeah and they said and it's not from anything yeah exotic no i just think they're cool i think bono looks cool in them do you have just big boxes and boxes and boxes of sunglasses at home uh people give you them as i think you well i do have a lot of them oh you do yes i have a lot because i just thought maybe the other band members would like to try sunglasses these ones these ones i think these would look good on larry try those on i think they look they match your outfit and everything these are quite clever with these sunglasses [Applause] they've got guitars on [Music] [Applause] i love i wouldn't mind doing a glass swap with with bob for a second thank you it's about time just to see i i hope you know i thought you were going to see your eyes for once thank you look away they're burning they're burning [Music] god darling very thoughtful cleverer we do see once now you have this information you're never going to be able to get it out of your head just consider this poor old blindfolder would you not help bono onto the stage after giving him a kicking on christmas i have good treatments lovely and i'm gonna be fine but just getting back to the album and and the the the experience of putting it together and writing these songs um in the beginning so you were you know you were four young lads in dublin you were doing pub gigs and you know working your way up through that now with the stadiums behind you and all the production in an album like this when you're writing a song do you still kind of think back to those core things like would this song work with just you know if we were just in the back of a pub yeah on this album i think we really did go after what you would call the the classic songwriting songs we we put aside some of the things that on previous records we'd we've been playing around with which is the sonic textures and we went back to what's a classic song what's a song that you you could imagine other people covering that will be around in 10 years 20 years or a song you could do in a pub see the great punk rock songs were brilliantly written the buzzcocks you know i never ever fall in love with someone you shouldn't have fallen in love with the ramones the clashes incredible songs beautiful melodies clear thoughts and any great song can be played on an acoustic guitar and in ireland by the way the only thing that will keep you in a pub at closing time with if the landlord is getting strict is you better have a great song and and if you want to stay and um so we never did have any on that level seriously they say just didn't quite work like that so but some of these two but so if i gave you a guitars now could you give us just a a taste of another track from the album like yeah [Applause] can somebody bring over i'm just making this happen could somebody bring over some guitar [Applause] it's been a long [Applause] very pleased to see you [Applause] all the songs on the album are first journeys like first time london first time today first time to fall in love first all these experiences this is and the first time you fall in love sometimes messy and um so this is this is called song for someone you've got a face not spoiled by beauty i have some scars from where i've been you got through eyes they're not afraid of anything they've seen i was told that i would feel nothing the first time i don't know how these could heal but in you i found a ride if there is a light you can't always see and there is a world we can't always be if there is a dark that you shouldn't doubt and there is a light don't let it go out and this is [Music] a conversation only we could make you breaking into my imagination whatever's in there it's yours to take i was tall i feel nothing the first time you were slow to hear but this could be the night if there is a light you can't always see and there is a world we can't always be if there is a dark within and without and there is a light don't let it go out and this is that kind of thing [Applause] is and of course you two [Applause] is [Applause] you
