U of T officials and protesters to meet again today

UFT officials and pro Palestinian protesters are meeting again today despite an injunction application to try and dismantle the ongoing encampment on campus cb24 is Courtney Hills following the very latest developments at the UFT downtown campus this morning good morning Courtney good morning Jennifer and Nick and we've had a chance to hear what some hear from that is from some of the demonstrators here set up at the UFT campus we talked to them yesterday about these ongoing talks with the university uh also asked well why keep meeting if they feel they're not making any progress here they say they have to so we can confirm that the demonstrators the pro Palestinian demonstrators and students set up here for about four weeks now will be meeting with the university we don't know when that will be we are hoping to speak with both sides about that a little bit later on something else to watch for today it's our understanding there is going to be an update from the judge looking over this injunction injunction application that is uh when it comes to a timeline so it's not that the two sides will be in court uh as part of the ing a part of the proceedings this is going to take a while there's a lot for the judge to consider here and a lot of people who want to weigh in and and give their uh perspective on this but what we understand is that the judge is going to be issuing this timeline so perhaps when we'll get a sense of for example when uh interveners may be able to partake in this these are uh organizations and groups who also want to share their perspective and participate in the injunction hearing so we understand that timeline will be released later on today so the judge will be sharing that and that's something of course that will will be following closely so we know when there is a possibility of this uh the arguments going forward for uh the school now what we have hired from the University of Toronto part of the reason they say they're seeking this injunction is they say this encampment causing irreparable harm they say they have concerns with the health and safety here at campus they have maintained for several weeks now that this should not be here that it's not allowed they issued trespass notices last week also say they have concerns with some hate speech here now we want to share with you what the demonstrators are saying in regards to the app for the injunction and some of their claims uh saying it is clear that the university is simply trying to assign blame to the encampment for acts that were likely committed or otherwise instigated by the outside agitators who have been hounding the encampment around the clock 6 day one now I have been told we'll have a chance to speak with some of the demonstrators later on this morning so we will talk to them about the next steps in this but the focus today guys will likely be on the fact that these two sides are going to talk once again they have been talking for some time in fact the last time they met was on Monday but what we heard from demonstrators they say they're not really getting anywhere with those talks they say their message is clear uh they want the school to divest uh redirect they say if their demands aren't met then they aren't going anywhere and that's why they are still set up at the encampment behind me here so uh stay tuned obviously a lot to follow with this story but the latest this encampment has been here for about 28 days uh the demonstrators say they are not planning to move in the University going forward with the the court proceedings on this applying for the injunction to have the police help remove the the encampment over to you all right that is CP24 is Courtney Hills live for us outside of Kings College Circle at UFT downtown thank you
