U of T injunction hearing won't be heard before ceremonies

well the University of Toronto's request for an encampment injunction won't be decided before most convocation ceremonies take place this convocation season c24s Courtney heels is looking at the story this morning uh live from downtown and Courtney uh it's going to be interesting to see how how this plays out when students uh are receiving their diplomas yeah and we've been in touch with the university all along throughout the process of talking with some of the pro Palestinian demonstrators here on the grounds at the school and the school has said from the beginning that convocation would go forward I'm in touch with their office this morning they say of course that is still the plan but it might look a little bit different uh we know as of next week uh beginning on June the 3D that's when the beginning of convocation will begin thousands of students will be here at the St George campus and they will be crossing the stage over at the convocation Hall this is literally next to King's College Circle where we are uh the building where the students will be going in with their families they'll be coming out maybe when it comes to photographs for example they'll be going to different parts of the campus or perhaps they will be taking those photographs right here we are in touch with the school to see if anything is going to change for the process but again the school says everything is going to be going forward according to plan what was new overnight we learned that the judge was looking at the injunction hearing so this is the request by the school to see police come in to help clear the encampment the judge released a timeline yesterday saying the actual hearing not taking place until the 19th and 20th in part of this decision uh the the judge acknowledged that there was this request of urgency because of convocation through the school because convocation happens between the 3rd to the 21st but the judge also said that the school uh response that is suggesting that they they didn't really press the point here when it comes to uh the the timing of the convocation and acknowledge that it would of course still be going forward also saying that they want to let people who are responding to this injunction those who say that they want to stay they have a chance to get their paperwork in order and put forward their concerns and their response there's a lot of interveners involved in this too guys those are other parties who want to be part of the process I want to share with you now what the school has to say about the decision from the judge on the schedule here it says we respect the Court's approach which ensures that all parties will have sufficient time to prepare a hearing on this important matter we continue to meet with student leaders representing the encampment and remain hopeful we can reach a peaceful resolution through Dialogue on that there are talks scheduled to take place on Friday with the demonstrators here at the campus uh along with the university we've heard from the demonstrators saying they don't really feel as though they're getting anywhere in these talks but they will continue many of the demonstrators here they're not going anywhere until their demands are met over to you Nick and Jen okay CP24 is Courtney heels reporting live outside of King's College circle at the UFT downtown campus thank you
