Was a good talk. I will say that for us, the Dr wasn't negative when telling us about DS, she was just clinical. I do get the general idea though that whenever a professional talks to you about your child who has special needs it's always a talk about the risks, the challenges etc.
Also, her plea at the end to engage people with special needs. I personally was that guy who would pretend a special needs person didn't exist. Not that I didn't like them or was afraid of them or anything of that nature. I just didn't know how to act around them. After having a child with DS I quickly realized, the child with special needs, that child's parents? They just want you to treat them like everybody else. Don't pander to them, don't generalize their condition about how all DS kids are soo happy, don't pity them, for the love of whatever god you believe in, never openly pity parents of children with disabilities. You're liable to get hurt.
