[Music] most welcome to historious panel history reconnaissance this time it's all about railroads the u.s baltimore and ohio railroad and the final moments of steam power mikados santa faced in yellowstone's in the late 1950s from 1960 and on it was diesel engines that ruined the tracks so there are some great shots of those as well and please like share and subscribe it means a lot to us the baltimore and ohio railroad founded in 1829 was the oldest continually operated u.s railroad in the 1950s and proud of this fact the year is 1957 as we catch number 362 a class q4280 mikado heading for cincinnati with a local freight we are now at willard ohio located on the main line between chicago and pittsburgh here is a class s1 locomotive number 522 a 210 2 santa fe type note the unusual side mounted bell number 522 is working the hump yard here at willard this locomotive is one of the last of the class s1 santa fe's left in service on the b and o these powerful locomotives held on until the end of steam on the bndo because of their efficiency speed and pulling power this is unusual considering the class was originally built in the years 1923 and 1924 [Music] [Music] this is the roundhouse at willard where we catch one of the class s-ones heading in for service so here is number 751 class t3482 mountain heading for chicago on the mainlines this class of locomotive ran until 1960. [Music] a little further west we catch up with number 751 again [Music] here we bid goodbye to number 751 the last six of these class t3s were scrapped in 1960 locomotive number 325 is shown working a branch line in grafton ohio which is east of willard this branch had been dieselized previously and the water towers were removed but because of a motive power shortage steam was returned to the line special high capacity tenders were required since water was not generally available along the line tenders were salvaged from larger locomotives which were going to scrap at the time here is baltimore and ohio 080 switcher number 819 performing its switching duties in grafton note that number 819 has an extended tender [Music] so if you look closely at the tender you can see the seam where an extension was added this is the b o roundhouse at lorraine ohio it is a cold rainy day as a class em-12884 yellowstone leaves the roundhouse area [Music] here is yellowstone number 675 running extra near grafton southbound with a freight drag this meet between numbers 675 and 650 is on a siding in the grafton area the b o had already begun to scrap some of the yellowstone type locomotives when these pictures were shot [Music] [Music] number 650 is now getting underway with its cold drag headed north [Music] [Music] [Music] we give chase to number 650 and it's trained the speed of these powerful locomotives justifies why some of them lasted until 1960. number 654 and train pound through leicester ohio where the cleveland and lorraine lines join [Applause] [Music] do [Music] [Music] that's all folks thanks for watching please like and subscribe [Applause] [Music] [Applause] you
