trying NEW tarantula habitats .. did Zilla get it right?

Oh everyone welcome back to my channel so today is a video that I have been really eager to make ever since I heard about these coming out so recently Zillah has decided to make some acrylic enclosures which are specifically marketed towards us tarantula people rarely do we get the attention from pet stores or brands so I was really intrigued when I found out that this was happening now I'm going to be honest it's pretty difficult to mess up a tarantula enclosure pretty much anything can be transformed into a tarantula enclosure and honestly that's a lot of fun of the Hobby well what about those keepers who don't really have that creative desire to continuously DIY enclosures well we have critter keepers and critter keepers are great they're super effective they come in various sizes they're inexpensive although they're not made just for tarantulas they definitely are in the market and they do a really great job of enabling us but regardless some of us are a little bit more picky and I understand that for sure personally I like to DIY acrylic boxes for my slings from the Container Store you can even find really good enclosures at Dollar Tree Target any place that sells food storage or animal crackers and the bins now we have another option and I'm totally ok with having another option plus I think I might like this and I think he might do introducing the Zillah micro habitat this is the arboreal and then we also have a rest reel and I believe these come in two sizes I actually came across these by chance so I was really thrilled that there was these and then there was a larger option which is great because this will be perfect for drift species and slings and then the larger ones would be perfect for adults so they did take that into consideration these look pretty slick I'm not even gonna lie I'm gonna stop talking and we're gonna see if these are worth it alright so here are both of the habitats and as you see I've actually picked a couple tarantulas to be among some of the first to try these out for the terrestrial enclosure we have my Toledo cattle show Dory and for the arboreal we have my hair Athena mercy color as you see on the box they've actually like shown tarantulas is the sand please don't be sad it looks like Sam right here it just kind of explains clear acrylic so it is acrylic provides views from all sides solid base to retain moisture and substrate locking lash for added security unique stackable design they're listening to us sack ability is a huge factor in picking a tarantula enclosure because we all have like 50 tarantulas I really think they did their research so I actually have really high hopes so let's go ahead and start with the terrestrial one now I think if I'm able to assemble this then anybody can because I am not really good at puzzles I'm not good at handiwork I'm just not good at it was kind of fitting so if I can do this then that means you can see this is very intimidating these have to be protected yeah okay so it looks easy there's only four figures I think oh it says you can find it on youtube but we're not gonna do that because you're here for this and let me just do my job I can do this I can do this right remove the clear protective film from each panel okay all right just I'll be right back now that we've removed the clear protective film from each panel we can go to figure to attach the front back and two side walls to the base using the silicone bands as shown I get that you guys are trying to condense this down to make people like me less intimidated but this is like four this is like four things that I have to do for one step come on I wonder why these didn't come built already it's like they were like oh they already like to build their enclosures so we're just going to make them do it more the heck okay this is a side no that's the side this is a sight oh I can totally do this this is so doable for me right now there is seriously you guys can you see this there is a hair and it is in the acrylic look at that what the heck oh oh my god oh oh my god what cat come on this is the top right all right it's coming along so this one says something about the front being there's that hair again call me Bob the Builder what is this this is the locking right why do I have all these extra rubber bands snap the security locking handle into the front wall so I'm guessing that's this this is like so hard okay wow I was really dramatic that was super easy Dennis says add the remaining silicone bands there will be spares I'm just being really dramatic I actually really like it so far it's kind of fun too I'm not gonna lie I was very curious about how it would be secure considering you don't want like an old-world tarantula escaping but it does seem secure this is how it lacks oh and then you just like okay so once you have it assembled and everything it actually looks really cool seems pretty sturdy especially for being held together by rubber bands but it looks really nice and I love this cross ventilation feel like somebody from zillow was listening maybe even watching some of our channels I'm pretty impressed I'm not gonna lie we're gonna read how's my little cuddle chivalry over here who's for some reason starting the burro like you're building a new burro right before we were you house you okay before we do the rehousing I want to assemble arboreal one and see if it's any different yeah this is definitely different all right so here's your base this one has six instructions okay remove the clear plastic protective look step to attach the front back and two side walls to the pace using the silicone dances show okay like I said Zilla this is like five steps foot so this is the side and I really like their cross ventilation placement on this one little minor snooty critique would be too if they put this cross ventilation also down here that would be really beneficial it did something wrong odd we figured that out okay this I think is though I actually really like how they made this door just like this look at that alright and then I just popped this little hinge on and there it is this is really cool I'm impressed but let's see what these two think of them so first we are going to rehouse my Caribbean oversea color jungle mix substrate and then I have this piece of cork that I took from my initial area avicularia I'm hoping this will fit cool so this fits perfect now little bit some moss and then we are going to reuse this water dish I love this water dish so I feel like it's gonna be a little bit of a challenge to poke this out but yeah I actually glued this plantain so I can't really just like take it out there we go yay that went really well and then just lift and close it twist little iffy but I mean it works you just lock it like that and there you have it Wow so I will say you do need to be very careful though about what kind of tarantula you put in here or what size I should say because I do see things that could cause an escape like right here if I can get it to focus that little area watch for places like that for her I don't think that's happening but you do need to like be aware of that so now that we have done the arboreal one we are going to next try eat our best real one so with these terrestrial ones I think a really good measure or substrate is right below these events we are going to put some of this really cool moss in here as well I'm loving how this is coming together with the moss over it I like it man I wish I had a cool rack to put in here right now I actually ordered some rocks I ordered those like crack your own geodes because well first of all I love rocks but second of all I think it'll look really cool and some of my enclosures so this is nice this is really nice we actually have a bite right here there we I'm gonna plan for a runner at this point [Music] there we are oh very scared oh oh oh oh oh shoot stay stay stay bolte toledo cattle my goodness and this lid is probably going to spook it a lot that was way more stressful than it should have been there we are look at this this enclosure looks really nice I think we're really gonna thrive in this and also as you saw I had it in this because the lay they like really like to burrow if you don't know that so this is gonna be like a lot to burrow okay so what is my final consensus so this is the arboreal one and these retail for about 25 dollars you have to put it together yourself but it's pretty easy to put together I like the ventilation and I like the locking lid but something interesting that I noticed was that the a mock box from the Container Store is actually almost the same size now this one's been modified to have a vent in the front but keep in mind this enclosure cost me about five dollars not including the vent whereas this one cost me twenty five dollars now is that worth it I mean it really depends on your preference I think it is cuz the door I really do like the door that you can open and shut and this one is a little bit larger but I don't mind this at all so if I wanted to save $20 I'm not done yet the terrestrial one shockingly is the exact same size of a model car box that we usually use to turn into an enclosure it's literally the same size these are the boxes that we get from Hobby Lobby and they're made for model cars and we all just kind of put ventilation in it with like soldering irons or drills this one's twenty-five dollars this one is about I think seven dollars but it's less if you use their forty percent off coupon that they give you every week if you have the app literally the same size and I like the lid better on this one but I like the ventilation better on this one seven dollars $25 seven dollars twenty-five dollars they're both literally exactly the same size wild again it's almost as if Zilla is watching what we're doing and I hope you guys enjoy it I hope this was informative I know a lot company seems to be paying attention to the tarantula people for once and marketing something towards us it doesn't seem like that happens a lot and yeah um they're pretty cool $25 all right two sizes
