True Crime: Trailing the BTK Serial Killer | Crime Scene Locations | The Wichita Strangler Case

[Music] [Music] [Music] what's going on everybody so here I am today in Wichita Kansas and this is a heavy heavy subject that I'm doing I'm here in Wichita to make a little film about BTK now if you're not familiar with who BTK is I'm gonna tell you as much about him as I know which is quite a bit I've been doing a lot of research now I've realized that when I do these videos about a heavier subject and a boat with so many locations I have to sacrifice either detail or locations otherwise it becomes an hour-long video and a full-length documentary so I'm gonna concentrate on most of the locations and give you the background of BTK and what happened at these locations as best I can BTK stands for bind tortured and killed and a man and I hate to say their names but a man named Dennis Rader was the BTK killer and he terrorized Wichita Kansas for over 30 years when the most notorious serial killers in US history and his first murders in 1934 were committed in this house right across from me where he murdered an entire family the Otero family a mother a father and two children and I want to say that as much fascination everyone has with true crime and sira killers as I do as well I despise them because of the fact that they're cowards and well what they do the crimes that commit however Dennis Rader has a special place for me of hatred because of what he did in this house because of the fact that he killed little kids as well and how much of a coward and the buying torture and killed tortured the torture part is what gets me and I hate him more than I hate any other serial killer that's just my purse and you know I'm not an objective journalist I state my views when I make a video selfie only if you're looking for someone objective That's not me I hate Dennis Rader and the BTK killer but it is a fascinating case now let's share with you and this is the house right here he went in through the back door in 1974 and he was startled to find the father home he didn't think the father would be home he just thought the mother and the daughter would be there and maybe the little boy the father was home because he had been injured in a car accident not too long ago see he was home nursing an injury he tied up the entire family strangled the father then the mother the father managed to escape from the bag that was placed over his head but Dennis Rader was able to subdue him once again killed him killed the mother then he killed little Joseph Otero then he took Josie Otero the daughter down to the basement and hung her from a pipe that's still there in the house everything still looks the same in the house do you see other videos online and he left his calling card and this is not pleasant to say but that was seeming down in the basement at the scene he enjoyed watching people suffer that was a torture part so that's what he left there in that house Wichita was rocked by this and they had no clue who it was and then no clue if something was going to happen again but it did and I'm gonna take you there and show you where the next murder occurred [Music] so here I'm at the second location this is where Catherine Brite lived as you can see behind me there's nothing here the house has been torn down the driveway still here mailbox is still here but the house is gone Catherine Brite was a young lady and Dennis Rader was waiting in our house for her but he didn't know that her brother was with her her 19 year old brother now he had the brother Kevin tie up his sister and what happened was then he went to strangle Catherine to his usual thing and then the brother escaped managed to fight demonstrate our identities shot him in the face he went back and panicking the coward he is he then stabbed Catherine to death the brother managed to escape the house to try and go get help and Catherine for all her guts and glory still managed to get to get to a phone called a phone call 9-1-1 but it's too late and she did die but her brother survived the house was right here right behind me near to the end of the video I'm gonna take you to Dennis Rader's house and also show you where he was caught and explain how he was caught it took over 30 years but the Wichita Police finally did manage to capture him he's currently in prison Dennis Rader with all of his arrogance called this his least unsuccessful kill because didn't go as planned and he had to use a knife he didn't get to do what he liked to do would just watch someone die slowly he would torture them his victims by strangling them they're slowly bringing them back and strangling them again and now we're gonna go to the next location one thing I want to clarify is Wichita I mean it's a big city but it's a small city I think it's around 400,000 people and all these locations are somewhat close now demonstrated I lived in Park City which is like a suburb of Wichita north and I'm just amazed at how close all these places are to each other somewhat and they've imagined him the hunt was something that he enjoyed finding his victims he had made some project lights out project fox hunt things like that he was that type of loser and just imagine creeping and crawling these streets crawling like a bug and in this house right here he approached a boy on the street with a photograph and it was actually his wife and daughter and said have you seen these people and the boy said no he followed the boy home to this house and pretend to be a private detective and that's how the children there's three children they allowed him inside and then with a gun he subdued the mother Shirley and killed her by strangling her locked the kids in the bathroom sorry this just didn't kill the kids I think he would have because they saw his face but they managed to live he got out of the house because of all the screaming of the kids he thought he they knew what was happening so he thought the police were on their way but it happened right here in this house here so this would be his sixth victim Shirley in that house ser on the left with the board in the window that's where Nancy Fox was strangled to death with a pair of her own stockings this would be Dennis Rader's seventh victim she's found in the bedroom he wrote a poem about Nancy see he liked to taunt the police he wanted Fame he wanted recognition for his crimes so he would write letters to the newspapers into the police and all misspelled grammatical errors he thought of himself as highly intelligent playing a cadmus game he was really really unintelligent and he wrote a poem about Nancy that's a boat I had a third grade level that was one things he left for the police to try and decipher another thing he liked to do was when he was strangling people he liked to whisper in their ear I am the BTK as he would bring them back to life before strangling them with them again that was part of the torture so that they would know what was about to happen to them [Music] this is a home of marine hedge and this is on the same street where Dennis Rader lived now Dennis Rader was an active member of the Boy Scouts a Boy Scout leader but he targeted his neighbor Arthur let's turn to count 8 in count 8 it is claimed the honor about the 27th day of April 1985 to the 28th 5th April 1985 the century county kansas it is a claim that you unlawfully killed a human being marine hedge maliciously willfully deliberately and with premeditation by strangulation inflicting injuries from which marine hedge did die on April 27th 1980 pump well actually kind of like the others she was chosen I went through the different phases stocking face and since she'd lived down the street from me I could watch coming going quite easily on that particular date I had a commitment came back from that commitment park my car over at Woodlawn and 21st Street bowling alley well as before I was going to have sexual fantasies so I brought my hip kit and lo and behold her car was there about she she's not supposed to be home so I very carefully snuck into the house and like a cat burglar and after checking the house she wasn't there so about that time the doors rattled so when we packed ones bedrooms and hid back there or in the bedrooms she came in with a male visitor they were there for maybe an hour or so he left I waited till wee hours in the morning and then proceeded to sneak into her bedroom and look the lights on looked up like our I think the bathroom lights I just thought he want to flip her lights on and she's screamed and I jump on the bed and strangled her manually now here we are back in Wichita and it's where Dennis Rader strangles his ninth victim Dickey Waverly he poses a telephone repairman let's get into the house and one thing I didn't mention was a look most of the times what he would do is he would cut the phone lines first and this would be excuse me this would be during the day many times Moses tools were at night but he often did kill during the day as well is that brazen but he would always cut the phone lines I mean this was before cell phones obviously so he got into Vicky's house and sang of her but Vicky put up quite a fight a big fight and he left that she was still breathing he didn't know that and the paramedics tried to revive her but they were unsuccessful and happened in this house right here [Applause] [Music] so Dennis rate of spinal victim was 62 year old Dolores Davis and this is her driveway right here wherever my rental cars parts and the house would have been right here behind me at this point we're in the 90s now it was 1991 and I don't know I mean he poses a repairman a fugitive on the run all these different things to get into houses or crept in through bedroom windows or basement windows this house that was staying here he threw a concrete brick block through a window I mean we're out then there's nothing really around here so I guess that sound well you hear the dogs is a pet spa right here now but it wouldn't have been here back then I don't think so there's no other houses really around here and it awakened Dolores and he murdered her strangled her this would be his 10th and final victim Dolores and here's the property today as it sits house no longer here the driveway still here and this is so close to his house his church it's unbelievable so he liked to be called BTK he liked that his name was Dennis Rader I'm not gonna call him BTK it's give him that satisfaction I didn't want to call him Dennis Rader as I'm doing the videos are going through it I get angry and anger thinking about him and his smug little face and it's that the the fact that he blamed on a demon the Minotaur inside him I mean he's just a sick sick individual call him the loser but the loser went dormant for a long time by he resurfaced and I believe it was 2004 and he wanted he wanted credit for all the crimes you've committed I mean all serie codes are mostly narcissistic egotistical that sort of thing Dennis Rader takes it to a different level the loser takes it to a different level so he began contacting the police again contacting newspapers TV stations and they pleased to learn that the BTK was still out there but he was about to be caught why is he better be Khan because he's an idiot the mistakes he made I mean I'm not thinking like a criminal but awaiting you when you read the story you think well why would he do that people say he wanted because I don't think he wanted to be caught not just it does not want to be caught and be put in prison he wants recognition for what he does but I think he thought he could get away with everything and he was doing and keep going but the police were a lot smarter than him what a loser [Music] so here we are back on independence sleep this is the street where marine head lived I talked about earlier when he left his Boy Scout weekend outing and this is the street where Dennis Rader lived and another thing I want to mention about marine hedge was he took her to he was president of his church which is not too far from here where I want to take you soon and he took her body there and displayed her body on the altar and took pictures he was very big on taking pictures now one thing okay so there the crime-scene photos there's a lot of them and they're easily available to see online they're not included in my video of course that's not something I would do I find it hard I mean I'm all about freedom of the press freedom of information I find it all I don't want crime scene photos are out there like that that the families have to see that it's weird right it is a little weird that they're readily available online I mean students who have to study things like that should be available to them before the general public should it be I don't know maybe but it just seems awful for the family to have to see something like that there's no that other people just seeing that here's where his house was and he'd like to dress himself up he loved to wear women's underwear that was a big thing with him was stealing the women's underwear and trinkets he called them from their houses but he often he would dress up in their clothing or women's clothing that he stole from other women that he bought and tie himself up and take photographs and he did a lot of that here at the house that is no longer standing but it was right here it had a tree house in back that he liked to spend a lot of time and this is a grown man here's where the house once stood right here and I believe the house next to it is vacant I could see probably why now I'm not sure which of those two trees if either them were the ones one with the tree house I don't know but no murders that we know of occurred here but in footage from back in the day well it's not that long ago that he was caught you see this tree still here this tree in the front and I believe the driveway was on this side so probably with this new cement is going right up there where Dennis Rader's house was another thing about Dennis Rader there's property behind me there is he worked he failed at every job but then he finally got a job with the city as the compliance officer where he had a gun and a badge first of all he worked security I believe for 14 years home security installing checking up on houses I mean that was a perfect way to troll for victims and to get into their houses then he worked as a compliance officer which means he would go around the city make sure dogs were properly secured on the property lawns were at a certain level I mean this guy and he took it to a different level of control and neighbors hated him oh and also nothing I want to add about him in high school he was known as someone with who was humorless and hated music or had no interest in music never trust anyone like that never and another rumor is when he's the compliance officer here in Park City he would shoot dogs gleefully because he did torture animals as most serial killers do as a child but he thought he was the smartest guy in the room always but he was him and he got caught he got caught because of three different things that he did first he well not necessarily an order but he leaving Clues all around now while he was killing people he was leaving clue he would leave clues because he wanted attention but then after he went dormant when he came back he left a cereal box haha cereal get it a rice krispies box in the back of a truck at a home depot a pickup truck and a guy came out found that pic found this cereal box and just threw it away and then the loser wrote to the police said hey whatever happens to the no one I left in the cereal box so they recovered the cereal box but then they found a where it was left they saw security footage he saw his car on that security footage so I mean I'm walking from it and jumping in the pickup truck so there they had a car second the biggest stupidest thing this guy did is he wrote to the police to said hey if I if I send you something on a floppy disk can it be traced and the police said no no it can't be TK loser no it can't of course it can so he wrote and he gave them information on a floppy disk just taunting the police but with a cyber unit the police were able to go into the disk and they found that it was from Grace Lutheran Church the last person to use that computer was someone named Dennis what Google search led them to see that Dennis Rader was president of the church at the time I believe he was president he's high up so now they had a name Dennis and then they say Oh Dennis Rader on a hunch they drove by Dennis Rader's house right here what did they see in the driveway that truck well his truck his car two things now that wasn't enough that was circumstantial they needed another piece of evidence so the guys subpoena for medical records from his daughter and they got a familial DNA DNA match and that was it they had their guy I'm gonna take you to the church now and show you what the church looks like where Dennis Rader took his neighbor marine and also where he wrote that letter from so right behind me that's Dennis Rader's thank you saying that and I hate seeing that and I don't want to say BTK so that was the losers Church so inside though he did write that letter to the police and also rates or Marines body right in there yeah like the curiosity part of me and the part of me that wants to show you more and more and more they just want to go inside but I'm gonna err on the side of I don't know good faith I don't know I'm gonna take you now to the final location is so you where they apprehended the loser let's go so after they were certain that Dennis Rader was BTK said with all disdain this is the intersection we're in the police - told that everything was set up SWAT teams to take him down right here at this intersection his house is literally right down there he was onto my home some lunch from his work ah and they caught him here was where they set it up and he knew he knew it was sentenced he confessed to murdering ten people now at first he did it through passage to the Catherine right murder he didn't wanna he didn't want he wasn't proud of that murder he was proud of his burgers this one would be right and then he finally did so he's serving a minimum of a hundred and seventy five years he got consecutive life sentences is to say he will die in prison and hopefully die a thousand deaths after that I'll show you the intersection here now it was tough finding this exact location but I managed to after a lot of lot of digging I was given directions to a few different places where people were told I was told it happened but then someone I know that I spoke to you in Wichita got in touch with me at the last minute and texted me the intersection and I know for sure that this is the one because of the liquor store and the proximity to the house I didn't know there's an old video store though here definitely closed down and I've talked to a lot of people in Wichita as I've been here sweet kind people every single one of them got it back and like I mean I have a huge City where murders have happened and people ask me about them I readily talk about them I mean that's just me but I was I was a little apprehensive in a small town but bringing it up to anybody why I'm here in Wichita good thought may even be met with you know a little like they want to put that behind them they talked about it but everybody's been very forthcoming and offering stories about friends there's that Newton that knew the loser that hat and knew the victims or the victors families and things like that tell me about places to go to so Wichitas a great place of Wichita is not a TK Wichita is I beautiful beautiful little town city here in Kansas and that ends my video about the BTK killer I started forgotten a lot of details but there's only so much I could fit in here recipes all of his victims
