well friends we live in a throwaway society and the other day I was riding my bike through one of Sacramento's more affluent neighborhoods and this a pressure washer was sitting on the roadside with a free sign on it now small gas engines can have a bunch of problems to them but by far and away the most common one is the needle valve and the carburetor gets clogged up now a gas engine requires three things to run compression fuel and spark we know we have compression because I can feel it when I pull on the rope I checked and there's gas in the tank but that doesn't necessarily mean that the gas is getting into the combustion chamber so we'll send some fuel and through the air passage with starting fluid okay so that pretty well confirms a couple of things for us one is that it has spark the spark is occurring at the right time the other thing it confirms is that fuel is not getting from the gas tank into the combustion chamber but when we sent some in through the air passage it got fuel so let's open it up and take a closer look this is the air cleaner here and it looks that's probably the original air cleaner look at that now this cover here bolts on to the carburetor let's take that off so we can get a look at the carburetor okay there's the carburetor and what happens here is that's the choke this thing here is called the float Bowl and inside it is a doughnut shaped float that actually it's a needle valve and when the gas level drops it opens the valve and the valve lets more gas come into here so let's let's look at that first we'll open that up now the first thing I want to do is drain the gas out of the gas tank because the minute we open that that float bowl it's probably just gonna drip like crazy oh yeah that gas is filthy all right now that had plenty of gas in it so I think we'll just pull the carburetor off altogether anyway so we've got the carburetor completely off one thing you can do to test this valve is just blow into this so that's working and what that means is the next step is the the fuel is not getting from the float Bowl into the combustion chamber which means one of the passages in here is probably blocked because they're quite small okay so you see down in there there's two there's two passages and what I would do to clean those is just take a piece of wire and stick it in there anyway then I just shoot some carburetor cleaner into all those passages because that's what it's for right these passages in here one of them goes directly into the air passage but then the other one it splits off and becomes too and it it exits these two holes here anyway the air rushing past this is what creates a fuel air mixture and that's what goes into the combustion chamber and makes for the big boom good let's it run anyway odds are what I just did has solved this problem but there's only one way we're going to be able to find out and that just put it back together and run it all right so let's put this back together put some gas in it brand-new air filter now this is kind of interesting there's a mount for something right there and I got no idea what that might be but yeah all that's running just now the gas that I have elected to use is really expensive this stuff is twenty dollars a gallon but it's supposed to not come up anywhere near as bad as regular gasoline okay that is running pretty good actually that's pretty good now let's hook it all up and do some pressure washing and you can see this has been bugging me for a long time anyway this is moss growing here I just hoped cleaning it doesn't blow the grout out well that thing came together without a hitch and I am really surprised by how powerful it is that's the most powerful pressure washer that I've ever used it's way more powerful than the ones down that the chlorine operated carwash I go to when I drag that thing home I thought it was just gonna be a quick fix and then I'll sell it for a couple hundred bucks but after having used it I'm gonna keep that thing anyway so the principles are the same regardless of what kind of engine it is you've got to have spark you've got to have compression you've got to have fuel air mixture and all those things have to happen at the right time and if they do there's no reason that things shouldn't run most of the time when you got something that turns over but won't run it's a plugged up carburetor so just pull that carburetor off and close out all its passage ways with carburetor cleaner and it should should run just fine the way this one did that thing purrs like a kitten and I'm sad to say I'm probably gonna be doing a lot more pressure washing now that I have it anyway that's all for this time thanks for stopping in I'm happy to answer any questions in the doobly-doo below so please like comment share and subscribe click up here to see my last video click over here to see something of mine youtube thinks you'll like and have a good one you
